MAD GIRL PUBLISHING'S RATING: PITCH BLACK ⌧ STATIC WHITE OBLIVION
A. A. Dark is an International Bestselling Author. She doesn’t live in one place for long and is known to move at the drop of a dime. From mountains and snow to tropical beaches, she could be at one in the morning and the other by night. A. A. is a Goodreads Choice Award Finalist in Horror. She is also the President and CEO of Mad Girl Publishing, and the founder for the Pitch Black brand.
I’ve been a long time fan of AA Dark/Alaska Angelini. She was my VERY FIRST introduction to dark dark dark “romance”. If you’ve read and loved The Whitlock series, well, you’re going to love this new series of novellas. New characters. New setting. Same vibe.
“I’d be a real Mistress, and I’d disappear from the outside world forever if I chose to. It didn’t suit me anyway. I was made for this. Made and born for the darker side of this world.”
A Hollywood star who has a deep deep dark secret and depraved fantasies. Charlotte Wyce was beyond famous. The Garden of the Gods is a place where your most fucked up fantasies are allowed to be played out with sex trafficked victims that are bought for .. whatever you please.
“Here, there are no rules. What you buy is yours. Do with it what you will. Fuck it. Kill it. Eat it.”
Charlotte has put on an act for the world. “She was an activist for women’s rights. She was the voice for domestic violence.”
But the true her? You’ll have to read on to find out just want she truly desires.
I know how dark AA Dark/Alaska Angelini can go. This first novella of a series is pretty light. You’ll get exactly what you expect from this author but it’s only an introduction to where her imagination can go. 😈 I ate the shit up like my favorite lollipop. I cannot wait for more characters to reveal themselves in this new series!
Twisted Welcome to the world of the Garden of the Gods where Mistresses can play, Mistresses who are finding themselves and gaining standing, who choose "blank," impression-ready male slaves to be shaped, used at their whim. Meet Charlotte, Mistress; slave 88, Mark; and a third, virgin female slave. Mistress Charlotte has plans for them both, a new lifestyle to live her fantasies, reclaim her vitality (youth).
Interesting infusing their backgrounds and histories for character development and pushing the empathy envelope painfully, disconcertingly so that you don’t want to feel what you shouldn’t feel and at the same time accepting of the inevitable outcome.
Steamy relations the main characters shared in their power dynamic, Mark so willing to please. There is nothing he won’t do or nothing he won’t become for his mistress. And Charlotte the successful actress, confident projection but with a secret self-hatred for weakness. Serial killers in the make? Expect dark — bloodlust, violence, angst, absent boundaries, shattered minds.
A twisted cerebral story of obsessive devotion, insecurity, and sobering, even pitying emotions. I was shaken, partly satisfied, partly unfulfilled.
As always, anything written by A.A dark transcends dark. For those familiar with my reviews, I would categorize this one as erotic horror. I really enjoyed Mark and his eagerness to please, I could even respect the sinister path he ventured towards the end but charlotte’s character fell flat. As the main character I would have liked to have seen more depth and to explore her history more would have justified her unhinged desires. Frankly, I found her hard to stomach and her perspective grated on my nerves.
I can appreciate a story by A. A. Dark when it has a good plot and character development like some of her other works such as the 24690 series. This one had its moments, but earns a lukewarm rating of 2 stars from me. It's a passable read, but not quite my cup of tea.

I’ve been incredibly sick the last few days, so this took me way longer to read than it should have. I started reading this after connecting with the author on Instagram. (I fangirled so hard when she followed me)
For fans of the pitch black novels by A.A. Dark, comes a series of novellas that take place after the fucked up stories of Whitlock. By fucked up, I mean “addicting” and “hard to put down”.
This particular novella is about a Mistress who wants to escape her every day celebrity status for dark, twisted fantasies come to life. In this novella, which is the first part of the Garden of the Gods series, we take the journey with Mistress 3 as she learns to navigate this new world. Looked down upon, she rises up.
A.A. Dark takes a leaf out of the adrenochrome conspiracy theory and she executes it in a sick and wonderful way.
Garden of the Gods, welcome to the favourites shelf of Garden of Tomes. 🌺
Oh hot damn. A.A. Dark is back at it again and I am here for it. If you’ve read and loved the previous Whitlock stories you won’t want to miss these deliciously sinful delights. If you enjoy dark and bloody reads with that grit and fire that keeps you wanting more, this is also a perfect place to dive into the world and see if you like it.
This series will be short stories following a Mistress or Master as they partake in the Garden of the Gods. Be warned these are pitch black. Enter at your own risk.
My first taste of Garden of the Gods with Mistress B-0003 was tantalizing and depraved. I loved every moment. Dark and gritty with those raw emotions I couldn’t get enough of. I really enjoyed the multiple POVs it truly gave a depth to the characters and the story. I lost myself in the pages, her darkness speaks to my soul. I can’t wait to see this world grow even more.
AA Dark has gone all out with the Garden Of The Gods. A spin-off series from the Whitlock books but this one comes in the way of novellas and each one is a standalone with a different Mistress or Master.
Garden Of The Gods welcomes all Mistresses and Masters where nothing is out of bounds and all of their dark desires and depraved thoughts are welcomed and embraced and all morals are left at the door.
There is so much about this story that I loved. The depts of darkness that AA wrote and hinted at sang to my dark and twisted heart. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next instalment.
Wow What a Book! I LOVED LOVED LOVED this one! I was so excited to see that A.A. Dark was releasing a new series of stories in Garden of the Gods and getting the chance to read early. This story was beyond dark and I loved every minute of it. I loved reading about the Mistress and her two new slaves. So much happens between them all and just yeah, it was intense. If you loved the 24690 series, you will love this too. I promise!
I hope all you dark lovers out there are ready for a brand new book by this author. Mistress B0003 is a short novel about a woman seeking out a secret underground club (of sorts) to fulfill her darkest desires. She finds exactly what she's looking for too. It's disturbing, thrilling and not for the faint of heart. Anything goes at the Garden of the Gods. ANYTHING! I understand this to be the first book in a series of stand alones. I ate this book up and couldn't put it down. It's a fast, enjoyable dark read. I can't wait to see more depravity in the world of Garden of the Gods.
A.A Dark is back with her amazing deliciously dark world. What’s better than a Mistress that buys a blank slave? She buys two. Settle in for an bumpy roller coaster ride.
And Alaska do it again. I loved Whitlock series, so i put highly expectations on this book (and whole series too). I have to say: i loved. This is a short story, with the goes to show some characters in the Garden of the Gods. This place it’s like a new Whitlock, commanded by Elec (Bram’s uncle) and with the same goes: buy slaves and do whatever you want- fuck it, kill it, eat it (yeah, creap, but this is A.A.Dark, we know what expect). Here we accompany the mistress B-0003. She buy two slaves: one for your pleasure and one for obey and to be the perfect soldier to her. When i think Alaska done everything, she go and write the scene of the blood bath (and what a scene). I have so many questions (and so few answers kkkk): Nineteen is the High Leader? Where is Jane? Bram and Ever put Nineteen like a spy in the Garden of the Gods? Elec knows about that? OMG, I NEED ANSWERS, but i loved this book.
It was nice to dip back into this underground world where anything and everything ominous and disturbing is possible.
Definitley dark, delicious, gory and crazy. It was a short read, so not a lot of buildup of characters or plot. I would highly suggest reading the 24690 series before reading this one. Then read this one, knowing you are going for a short ride at the carnival.
I found this book through a TikTok post about dark books. This was a good read and it was pretty dark. The main mistress in this one got one my nerves, but I guess that's what happens when you are a celebrity who is used to getting your way.
I didn't think any setting or series could ever rival Whitlock, but A.A. Dark has outdone herself and created and even more dark and twisted home for horror in her new Garden of the Gods series. Mistress B-0003 is delightfully shocking. Anything goes in the Garden of the Gods!
This book transports us to a dark, sadistic underworld teeming with the most heinous desires.
***** Rating: 4, I really shouldn’t like this book but I did stars Steam: Ummm… not sure I can actually rate this one Genre: Ummm… Horror, Horror Romance (maybe???) Triggers: Yep… This book is Pitch Black ***** Y’all this is not a rainbows and unicorns romance, I hesitate to even call it a romance, though our MMC does kind of fall for his Mistress… If you have read 24690 or Whitlock novella’s then you know what to expect, but if you aren’t familiar with 24690 and Whitlock, please heed the warnings…this is so incredibly dark.
Mistress B-0003 is filled with horror, psychological manipulation, Stockholm Syndrome, and human captivity, all set in a secret underground city catering to society's most depraved, twisted, sadistic and often taboo or illegal desires.
This is not a book for the faint of heart or those who have triggers, but if you want a PITCH BLACK, dark read that will make you question your sanity... scare you a little, make you angry a lot, and then make you sad as heck… this is the book for you.
I, for one, will continue reading this series and look forward to more in this dark world.
I'm so happy that since Whitlock is gone, a new Headmaster has started up The Garden of the Gods! What a great start to this new series. Great characters, tight writing, and, great storyline. A.A. Dark has done it again with a series that is so dark, showing the ugliest part of human nature, adding twists and turns that are shocking. My favorite guilty pleasure. Thank you for bringing this genre back in my life! This book is very dark, full of triggers. If you want to come over to the dark side, I highly recommend this book!
There is just something beautiful about a dark book. I'm in love with this world. I can't wait to see what else it throws our way. Just dark enough to dip your toes in or more. Must read series!!!
Amazing. Such a quick and easy read and A.A.Dark is everything. Getting inside her mind and just experiencing her creativity and the way she writes is purely addicting. I truly can’t get enough.
Welcome back to the wonderful world of Whitlock... But be warned that this is absolutely nothing like Whitlock was 🙃
So I've given my brain some time to process the events in the 24690 books and now decided "It's time to go back" because clearly a normal mind isn't for me 🙃
This book was... Different to what I imagined. In a good and yet disappointing way. I get that the place of play is different and that this isn't Whitlock but if I'm honest, that's kinda disappointing 😔 I was hoping to see more books from before Whitlock became what it ended up to be and unfortunately I didn't get that.
However, that being said this book was by no means bad. It was a good lead into the newer, refined, more structured, Whitlock that our old Main Master Bram could only dream of 😌
I liked the idea of slaves being programmed to truly be loyal and obedient to their master/mistress but I was truly disappointed by the way the first male slave in this new series turned out 😶 He was meant to be a blank slate - a male slave who was programmed to be the perfect slave - and was brainwashed and meant to only remember what the Main Master thought necessary. However, eighty-eight remembered basically every single thing from his old life and still had his own will and thoughts instead of being a slave in the traditional sense and that was kinda a let down.
Mistress B-0003 was also very confusing in my opinion. Her past was briefly mentioned and while I egt that that's a "good" reason for her to become messed up, I'm confused as to how she was a advocate for feminism and spoke up against domestic violence while she ended up being a Mistress and doing shit that's way worse than any domestic violence case I've known of.
It's a good book to get back into the world of slaves, Masters, and mistresses, but not as good as the main Whitlock books were. That being said, I'm looking forward to reading the other books in this series 🥰
Definitely dark and not for the faint of heart…but it could be worse!
This is the first book I have read by this author. I was nervous to start with 24690, as I love dark romance but I’m not sure how dark and depraved I can handle in a book. For context, I adore dark romance but I hate horror.
So, imagine my surprise when I finished this novella in one sitting and didn’t hate it. It’s certainly dark. You NEED to read trigger warnings for this book—however, it could definitely have been a lot worse. Despite there being a mistress/slave storyline, the slave is a fairly willing participant throughout any and all…festivities.
This review is not meant to be a spoiler. However, I do want to warn others who are on the fence of whether or not to check this book out (I read soooo many of the reviews and really could not figure out if this was a book I could stomach or not). I made it through fine. Go in knowing this is an underground world of the elite where quite literally ANYTHING goes. A first time mistress wants a slave and also wants to explore some …unique… anti-aging treatments. That’s all I’ll say—read the book if you are intrigued.
I’m left unsure if I want to read more of this series or not. I know they will get darker, but this one I was able to get through! I wouldn’t say it’s great, but it was fine. Well written with interesting points of view from each character. I don’t know that I could say I “enjoyed” the storyline, since it’s rather dark and depraved. BUT it was different, and for folks who love very very dark/horror/dark&depraved romances, you’d probably like this.
Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3/5 stars Spice: 🌶🌶🌶🌶 4/5 peppers ⚠️18+ tropes: 🩸, 🔪, mistress/slave, unaliving, captive, Stockholm syndrome (kinda), kidnapping, reference to SA
Please note—I would classify this book more as the horror genre first, then as “dark romance” second.
Holy hell I love me some A.A. Dark books. I have been keeping my eye on this series since she first released them. I just wanted to wait till there were a few released before I read them. I love her books and I wanted to have a few to read before I had to wait for the next release.
A.A. has a way of building the tension in a book and ratcheting it up before the next one. I love it. This was a great book. I'm not one that usually likes a female in charge.. femdom/mistress book. But I absolutely loved everything about this one. Maybe because Charlotte doesn't come across as the usual mistress. She strikes me more as being a bit crazy 😆😆😆 but I loved her craziness.
Mark... I loved this guy. I loved his struggle to survive in this crazy new world he found himself in. He could be obedient when he had to be... but when he saw his chance he pushed his boundaries hard. I find myself wondering sometimes with him.. who is actually leading who? Is he really the slave living to please his mistress... or is he letting her just think he is the slave so that he may live another day? Yes he is obsessed with her and he does want her to be happy... but I get the feeling that with very little effort on his part he could be the one in charge all while hiding it behind the disguise of being a slave. Topping from the bottom so to speak. 😆😆😆
I loved everything about this book and I wouldn't mind reading a whole lot more on this couple. I can't wait to dive into the rest of the books.
“This was the beginning of something I couldn’t lose. If my Mistress didn’t exist to be here with me, my life was literally gone. Suddenly, that didn’t seem as important as keeping her happy and mine. Death was easy. Death was absolute. Not having her was unbearable to even comprehend.”
🤯👀🩸 Sheesh! I wasn’t sure what to expect with the Garden Of The Gods series, but we started with a BANG! 💥 There was so much chemistry & “inappropriate” romance between the two main characters that it was wild. But as always, i ate it up! 🤌🏻 THIS BOOK IS DARK! D A R K!
When Mistress B-0003 buys 2 slaves, one male and one female, at an auction - she has big plans for them. Little does she know, her male slave, M0088, is MORE than happy to be her slave because she is, after all, beautiful Hollywood actress, Charlotte Wyce. Her female slave, W0116, not so much because she’s being used to serve her Mistresses bl00d kink! 😬🫠 M0088 & his Mistresses relationship grows, as does his possessiveness of her - which i think she hates, but secretly loves.
I did feel bad for W00116, but tbh, i knew already from the get go how things there would end! If you like/loved the 24690 Series - you’ll love this one! 🖤🤌🏻🤩
A.A. Dark was my very first taste of dark romance. She was my intro into the world of dark and depraved and I have never left. She has a special knack for all things dark and this spin-off if you will from The Whitlock Series was everything I'd hoped it would be. You see the references to that series and the fall of Bram *swoon* and you see this new beginning to this world... To this society that has been rebuilt for Masters and Mistresses to fulfill their deepest and darkest fantasies.
I loved this dynamic between the male slave and the actress. It was so different than what we saw in the Whitlock Series where we saw primarily female slaves. There is still a filing and sorting order for the slaves and for sure a hierarchy for the Masters and Mistresses. I loved this intro into this new world and I am excited to see what is coming next.
You know A.A. is about to get dark and I am here for it!! If you are new to A.A's work this is a great intro into her world.. Into her mind which is so fantastic! It's a good start to see if you can handle it... If you like it dark... And her work pushes your psyche to see what you thought you could handle versus what you never knew you needed in your life until now.
This is for those who have read the complete 24690 series first!
This is not a dark romance, while romance is present it is classified as pitch black. Check trigger warnings before starting because this will be dark!
Mistress B-0003 known as Charlotte Wyce, a famous actress has been invited to participate at the Garden of the gods, an upgraded version of Whitlock with different rules. Who you are on the outside means nothing on the inside here. Charlotte is a beta mistress until she earns her place and can become a real mistress so that’s her main goal. She will not be disrespected and will fight for this so she can disappear from the outside world if she chooses to do so. At the first auction she has decided she’s buying a programmable blank slate male whom has been programmed to forget everything they chose for him to forget and his only purpose is to serve his mistress however she may want even if that purpose is the death of another and that’s exactly what he does. Her slave worships her just like she wanted and accepts even her darkest desires with no judgement. How could she ever leave this world behind now 🩸
Ah, I forgot how much I loved reading this author's books! I loved her 24690 series and the companion Welcome to Whitlock novellas. She always has the most captivating stories that put you in a chokehold and you become obsessed with the story. This novella is no different!
This is the start to a new spin off from the series that I mentioned above. There are a collection of novellas in this new world, Garden of the Gods. Similar idea...slaves, masters, & mistresses, but all new characters etc. These are VERY dark erotic horror stories.
This particular story surrounds a new mistress and her two slaves. One is what is called a blank slate male slave, the other is a virgin female.
If you want to know any more, you'll just have to read it to find out. If you're squeamish or have a lot of triggers then this story probably won't be for you. This is available on Kindle Unlimited.
This author is masterful in her craft of erotic horror and I can't wait to read the rest of this series & her entire backlist.
GOTG is a spin-off of the Whitlock series (24690), which I haven't read, but each book can be read as a standalone. The entire concept of this book is really intriguing and left me wanting to know more about the society and the training the slaves are put through. I loved the male slave and his character development. The peeks at his past life and his thought process after training were fascinating. However, I didn't like the mistress at all. I found her character to be too unsure of herself for someone who spent a year waiting to be a part of this unhinged society and who supposedly went through classes beforehand. I understand that she's a baby Mistress and finding her footing and over time her character would probably develop much further (which we did get a peek at towards the end) but I guess I would have preferred her to be more of a strong unhinged type from the start. Overall, I enjoyed the story, and the concept has me so intrigued that I definitely want to read more along with the original Whitlock series.
lol. ‘right. so that was dark? that was female sadism? that was gardens of the gods? come on. this is my first book by a.a. dark and despite having whitlock on my tbr i’m a sucker for female sadism so i had to start with this one. but this was child’s play. there wasn’t anything that astonished me or triggered me or corrupt my mind not even to the slightest degree. but okay let’s say that i can’t be easily persuaded that your wannabe sadism is sadistic enough. cant your characters at least remain true to being a mistress? half of this book was the male being more dominant than the mistress ffs. which brings me to the purpose of the gardens of the gods. you want to convince me this is a mastermind’s creation? make it run smoothly and make sure your slaves are slaves and not rebels, lol. blah blah blah intense training. blah blah blah all words nothing to back it up. didn’t have a lot of expectations for this but it still disappointed me.
