Imagine how your life might change if you followed Jesus up that Galilean hillside, hearing His most famous Sermon for yourself as you sat in the tall grass. Imagine how the world might change if you followed Him down the mountain, reaching your arms out as He did to a harvest field desperate for His touch.
With accessible, warm, and down-to-earth writing, you don’t have to imagine these things, for beloved author and Bible teacher Kelly Minter brings to life the teachings and healings of Jesus in vivid color. Sharing her own heart along the way, Kelly offers historical elements of Jesus’s day and references the original language when illuminating. The Blessed Life is for anyone willing to take a thoughtful 90-day journey through the mind, heart, and work of Jesus, so they might know Him more deeply and reflect Him more fully.
Go up the mountain to learn. Go down the mountain and walk accordingly. You’ll never be the same.
Kelly lives in Nashville, Tennessee, and serves the Lord passionately both across the U.S. and internationally in a variety of creative roles. An acclaimed author, musician, Bible study creator and teacher, she is passionate to see women impacted by Jesus and His Word.
Growing up outside of Washington, DC, Kelly was raised in a Christian home, the oldest of four children and daughter of a pastor. Her childhood was seasoned with competitive sports, learning the guitar, singing, and a litany of church activities in the congregation her father founded and still pastors. Like many young women, Kelly dealt with inner struggles – anxiety and depression were a part of her growing-up years. “Those struggles are what drove me to Scripture,” Kelly says, “and the catalyst for me to learn for myself who God is.” Throughout her high school career, Kelly played basketball competitively, expecting that to be her path into college. But after a scholarship fell through, she began playing music. And God began a new thing.
Kelly moved to Nashville in the summer of 2000 and released her first record with WORD, followed by a subsequent release on a different label, leading to her first #1 Single on the Inspirational Charts, This Is My Offering. Shortly after this success and several cross-country tours her record company folded leaving Kelly to rethink her vocation and ministry. In the middle of an ever-changing music industry and on a tour through Colorado, Kelly met a book publisher who would two years later sign her to her first book deal.
Kelly’s first book eventually led to LifeWay approaching her about writing a bible study. Authoring curriculum was a new challenge, but one she quickly fell in love with. Kelly’s first three studies include, No Other Gods: Confronting Our Modern Day Idols, followed by Ruth: Loss, Love & Legacy and Nehemiah: A Heart That Can Break. Respected Bible Study teacher and speaker, Beth Moore, chose each of Kelly’s resources for three of her widely-reaching online summer studies. Thousands of women participated and were challenged by Kelly’s writing and her unique perspective on Scripture.
Kelly now writes, teaches, and sings across the United States and also in other countries. Speaking at multiple conferences and events, as well as four Women of Faith events in 2012, Kelly has become a steady and respected teaching voice to women, particularly when it comes to the Scriptures. She also partners closely with Justice and Mercy International (JMI), a ministry that serves in the Amazon jungle; she especially loves working with the jungle pastors who encourage her through their remarkable faith.
When home, Kelly’s days are spent writing, cooking, gardening, enjoying her neighborhood, loving her community, investing in her local church, and walking forward in the things God has for her. She is relevant, palatable, and uncompromising in her teachings from the Bible, and women relate to this.
This is a very inspirational 90-Day devotional that is presented by the author in two parts. The first part discusses the Teachings of Jesus, days 1 through 59, and the second part discusses the Miracles of Jesus, days 60 through 90.
I enjoyed reached the section on the meaning of the word "Blessed", and often many of us don't stop and give thanks for how truly we are really blessed.
The author provides scripture throughout this book that is pertinent to each day's topic. In particularly, I loved the verses where it is written "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for the kingdom of heaven is theirs.” Matthew 5: 3; “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” Matthew 5: 4; and “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” Matthew 5: 6. These are but a few, and this devotional is filled with scriptures that will remind us to "count our blessings", and not worry about what we want.
As the author states "Blessed living means giving, fasting, and praying not for the applause of people but for the communion and reward of being present with the living God." Amen.
I highly recommend this 90-Day Devotional for any desiring to live and walk a life in the teachings of our Lord and Savior.
This is one of my favorite devotionals now. The author did a great job of bringing God’s Word to light in practical and challenging ways. I will be reading this again in the future.
I have enjoyed Kelly Minter’s Bible studies, so was eager to use a devotional authored by her. Her insights into the blessed life and Matthew chapters 5-9 have proven to be a true 90 day heart journey for me. Kelly Minter takes us to the mount on which Jesus delivered His greatest sermon. Here, we get a glimpse of what Jesus was teaching the people of that day, why the “blessed” statements and miracles met the people where they were and how the same lessons are relevant today.
B & H Publishing delivers another contemplative work laid out in a daily format. Each scripture passage is followed by a devotional thought explaining how each phrase met the people in both familiar wording and timely examples. A prayer is included after each section of scripture is completed.
The translations used are Holman’s Christian Standard Bible (HCSB), New International Version (NIV) and English Standard Version (ESV). The book is divided in two parts: Part 1 —-Days 1-59 The teachings of Jesus Part 2 —-Days 60-90 The miracles of Jesus
I enjoyed meeting Jesus each day through this devotional and look forward to using this book again in the future.
I received this book from the author/publisher free of charge, with no expectation of a positive review.
Love this devotional because it's the kind that will help you to grow in the Lord! Well thought out and researched. Interesting too! Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the advance e-copy of this book. The opinions expressed are entirely my own.
Beth Moore said about Kelly Minter ... "She writes like a portrait artist paints." This is a perfect description. Another beautiful book. It's as if I was sitting with Kelly on the mountainside listening to Jesus' sermon on the mount ... She unpacks it in such a gorgeous way. One of my favorite things about Kelly is that she presents deep revelations and cheers us on to go wherever Jesus asks us to go. Her writing is completely free of any guilt and shame (of how long it took me to realize something or leave a distraction behind). Kelly is like your favorite best friend ... who always loves you no matter what, and is excited for you to run with her to the next amazing thing she has discovered. What a gift.
Kelly Minter is one of my favorite bible study teachers, so I was excited to read The Blessed Life. This is a 90-day devotional broken up into 2 areas: days 1-59 focus on Jesus Teachings and days 60-90 focus on the Miracles of Jesus. I enjoyed that these daily devotionals were a little longer, compelling the reader to tarry a bit in the scripture and insights from Kelley. I know that I will return to this devotional often and would highly recommend it for your daily time with the Lord. Thank you NetGalley & B & H Publishing Group for the opportunity to read and review this book!!
I’ve always liked Kelly Minter, and this has to be my favorite devotional yet. This 90 day devotional is more in depth than typical devotionals, thought provoking, and wonderfully written. The devotional is based on the teachings and miracles of Jesus and shows us how to live a blessed life through Jesus’s story/teachings, without the fluff you find in a lot of Christian books. This is a book that should be added to every Christian woman’s library and would also make the perfect gift for a friend.
We read this book for my women's community group, and not only did it help me personally grow closer to God, but it helped me grow closer to the women in my group. The author has a way of using relatable situations and plain, easy to understand language that helps shed light on the intentions and truths of scripture. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to deepen their relationship with our Lord and His people.
What a delightful look through Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount and several miracles he performed in Matthew! Kelly’s Witt and charm dances through the pages of this devotional breaking down sometimes complicated teachings making them easy to understand!
Kelly Minter is a gifted communicator. In an unassuming, unpretentious, and often humorous style, she makes biblical truths accessible and relatable to your modern daily life.
This devotional is so refreshing. I love how Kelly Minter goes verse by verse through the teachings and miracles of Jesus. So much truth and application for Christ followers and a shift in perspective of what the blessed life truly is.
I really like her teaching normally but this was not my favorite. I think maybe because it was split into ,90 days it felt choppy or something, I kept tuning out...
Kelly Minter has a gift for bringing the Bible alive and making it relevant to my daily life. These short devotions on Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount are insightful and inspiring.
The Blessed Life is a 90 day devotion of Jesus and His teachings and miracles during His time on earth. I usually favor devotionals that have three to four verse references with a small portion of devotion's author's inspiration from them. This devotional only has a section of verses that are from Jesus's mouth or his works with on to two pages of reflections from author and I love it. Kelly Minter doesn't mince words to keep the devotion only uplifting, but gives readers something to think about in how to live differently or a new perspective of Jesus' life. The longer devotion is worth the time and will leave the reader with a deeper faith. I already know who I will be giving this book to as a gift in the future. I received a complimentary copy of this book though NetGally and publisher, but all opinions are my own.
