Five days with no children's books. I guess I won't quite make my goal of reading one children's book a day. But, they are heavy! I didn't want to tote them around with me. Life happens, it's okay.
This book...is good for what it is. I think that if you are going on a long car trip this could keep your child occupied for 15-30 minutes. Which is pretty good for a book this small. It would keep your child occupied even longer if you prepared ahead of time a list of objects for them to find in addition to the little rhymes the book provides. An easy enough prospect, as there are dozens of objects to each page so your child could have fun hunting for whatever you decide to send them looking for.
That being said, I thought it was kind of dumb. I found all of the objects in less than 3 seconds for each page. It helps that they give you the exact same picture, slightly enlarged, to direct you what to look for. It would be good for kids though who are learning to differentiate objects from each other. I probably wouldn't buy this book new. It's just kind of meh. 'I spy' with poems...I didn't even realize the poems were there until I read the cover. That's how little they impinged on my consciousness. It's probably because I was more occupied in finding the objects than in the words that told me what objects to find.
{My thoughts} – Valentine's Day is fast approaching. As a parent I am always on the look out for books that revolve around the holidays so that my children can learn and read more things. The I Spy Book Series is incredible in my opinion.
This Valentine's Day book is filled with rhymes and pictures of various objects. The pictures of various objects go together with the rhymes. You read the rhyme on one page and then you find the objects mentioned in it on the next page. There is so much that can be learned by reading through these books.
There is so much to be learned with this books. The various objects in the pictures are helpful in teaching children word association. After you are through finding the objects in the rhymes you can look through the pictures and point out other objects that you may want your child to find. Hopefully your child will repeat the objects back to you and help work on increasing their vocabulary.
I recommend this book for any parent looking for a fun book/activity for their child to share with them. There is so much to be learned by reading these books with your child.
I SPY LITTLE HEARTS is a cute little look-and-find for toddlers. It's in a board book format. The pictures are simple enough for them to find. The theme of this one is hearts and there are several to find throughout the book.
I love the foiled cover and thing it's a nice touch. This would be a good gift for Valentine's Day for those children who enjoy look-and-finds. My two-year-old had fun pointing them out. Since the pictures are small to fit the board book format, there aren't many items to find per page. I wish there were a little more, but overall it works for younger children.
Look-and-find books are a perfect way to challenge a child's mind. It engages them and gets the gears in their mind moving. The I SPY series has so many to choose from that it keeps things interesting.
Final Verdict: I would recommend this to fans of hearts and look-and-find activity books.
Honestly, I find "I Spy" books so frustrating! My brain just doesn't work that way and the kids are often much better at finding the images than I am. However, this tiny board book is easy! It might even be too easy for some. Also, I was hoping to use it for a Valentine's Day theme but it doesn't feel enough like Valentine's Day to me; ultimately, that just means I get to have it out year around!
This book was also given as a gift and I had just been thinking it would be fun to have some of these books in our collection. And it’s excellent for capturing the attention of kiddos.
So happy to find an I Spy book perfect for toddlers. Love the smaller, simpler version. Love that there's picture prompts. Love the same rhyming text and extras in the back. We will be getting more of this series!
These I spy board books are great because there's the search and find page on the right and the clues with a picture of what you're looking for on the left. Stella has loved all of them.
It’s always interesting to look at the intricate found object collages, and good for keeping kids occupied for a bit. My preschooler liked it well enough for two readings in a row.
Saved this for Valentine's Day with Natalie. She can match things, but doesn't in books. I'm not sure if it is lack or interest or difficulty or both. The images weren't exciting, but they had plenty to explore.
I love reading these books to my boys as they feel like they are doing the reading spying the objects asked about. The board book format is perfect for the youngest of readers.
This is a great way to scaffold the children's reading. I love to let my children use these book as a free time event and when they are just learning to read.
