Environmentalist Zoe Garcia gets in over her head when a routine check on an old oil rig turns into the worst moment of her life. Thankfully, Eric Cooper—ex-Navy SEAL, mystery man, and Zoe's long-time crush—is at the scene. Together, they battle the men wreaking havoc on the off-shore platform and fight to escape.
Stranded on a desert island, Eric and Zoe must turn to each other to stay warm...and alive. With more danger on the way, the only question is, will they continue to resist the blazing attraction between them or will nature and the elements force them to give in?

Deep Blue is the prequel to Adriana Anders upcoming release of Whiteout and it's an absolutely fabulous kick-off to the new series. Even in this shorter novella, she balances the suspense and romance perfectly. Neither one overshadows the other. Deep Blue is a complete story, but with bigger ties to one of the main characters in Whiteout. Although it's just a taste of what's to come, if Deep Blue has just an inkling of what I have to look forward to in Whiteout, I'm all in!
This a 100 page novella that took me over a week to read. Turns out all the places I usually read a couple of pages here and there on my phone? So NOT appropriate places to be reading this kind of steaminess. How were people openly reading 50 Shades of Gray on public transport back in the day? Am I just a prude?
ANYWAY! This was great. I was totally vibing with this couple. I liked them together almost as much as the couple from Whiteout. This is a prequel to that book, explaining where the kitted out oil rig came from. Overall, really enjoyed. The spicy bonus scene was a good read too.
This one wasn't bad but I just couldn't seem to get engaged with the characters. Maybe I just wasn't in the right mood? I am interested in reading more in this series and I was a bit more intrigued by the side characters, especially Leo.
If I had read this as a standalone, I would have rated these 3 stars. It has a good storyline and some spicy moments. As a novella I think the author did a good job providing background and introductions. I do not like reading things out of order because then you compare. Sadly, I read Whiteout (book 1 in the survival instincts series). Because of this the mention of Sampson's name and the phone call were exciting. However, I can't help but compare the badassary in regard to the action and danger in both stories which is unfair because Whiteout is a full novel so obviously it's going to have MORE of everything.
*sigh* I gave 4 stars because in combination with Whiteout and the overall series that is being presented, I'm really excited and I did really like getting more info on Leo and background on Eric.
Eric is so cute to me. He's a roughneck, retired Navy SEAL, who turns into an awkward teen boy with sweaty palms who literally waits in the middle of the ocean on the regular just for a chance to see and/or speak to Zoe. Dude has been harboring his crush for YEARS.
I don't know why but I totally get Kevin Arnold and Winnie Cooper vibes from his crush.
Zoe is very likable. She is definitely a tree hugging hippie and a short-tempered Latina.
Their "adventure" was wrapped up in less than 24 hours. It was very Mission Impossible. I'm happy that I was able to read Zoe and Eric's story and get more background on everyone before continuing this series.
Eric & Zoe's sexual chemistry is sizzling, and their first kiss gave me life.
I would ONLY recommend this as a series read. If I had read this not knowing that there was more, I think I would have been disappointed/frustrated with all the unknowns.
I previously read Whiteout by Adriana Anders and loved it so I stuck this one on my TBR. I'm about to start the next book in the series, Uncharted, so I wanted to read this novella and get Eric and Zoe's origin story.
This is a novella so, of course, I need to temper my expectations. There's only so much character development that you can do in an action packed story that's around 100 pages. Eric and Zoe were likable and it was great to see how the oil rig headquarters came to be.
Overall, it was a nice refresher before I jump back into this series and a quick look at how it all got started.
- Ch 5: holy crap that lead up to that kiss was absolutely insane. I was literally squirming; the tension was sooo thick. - Oh wow, that was a fun read. Also I wish I had read this before Whiteout because I would’ve been way less blindsided about Eric and his security crew showing up lol. Definitely one of the best First Kiss scenes I’ve read in quite a while - the spicy bonus scene was good, too. I love that he asked her to be “everything” to him, but the love declaration was a little crazy fast given they’d only spent 2 days together haha ✅ tiny minor feels

Deep Blue was a good way of discovering Adriana Anders. It was short and fun with good action scenes and a sweet couple. I could totally see this novella as one of those cliché action movies with a dash of romance. While not unforgettable it was entertaining and I believe I’ll be reading more of this author’s stories in the future.
I read this after Whiteout and Uncharted, and maybe I just need romantic suspense to be longer? It was good on the mystery backstory, maybe this could have just been that, the romance seemed scrammed in. That cave camping scene was fire tho.
Eric and Zoe’s short novella is a sneak peek of her new Survival Instincts series starring a former oil roughneck and retired SEAL and a non-profit environmentalist who stumble into a highly dangerous situation on a decommissioned off shore drilling rig. I enjoyed their mutual, yet undeclared attraction to each other, his impressive survival skills, and the electric connection they share when they’re forced to spend the night hiding on a nearby island. Their story is short but I really liked the writing style and the edge-of-your-seat adventure with an intriguing cliffhanger that has me dying to know what happens in Whiteout, Eric’s brother Noah’s full length book.
