Rate this book
In the quiet of the Wiltshire countryside, Maggie Hatherall, full of life despite her advancing years, is worried about what she is going to do with her two-hundred-year-old home. Newcomer Lucia Grey has escaped a bad marriage but her ex is reluctant to let her go. For architect Corin Drayton, an unexpected inheritance is the start of a complicated family wrangle but it does mean he stumbles upon Larch Tree Lane, hidden among the rolling hills.

From the cottages and farms to the local shop, pub and old manor house, residents' lives are set to intertwine, relationships bloom and both romance and heartache lie ahead.

I find Anna's books a great source of comfort when i feel like some escapism and it was a quick gem in a tumultuous time.

A nice (how many English teachers told you not to use the word “nice” as it wasn’t descriptive enough?) romantic story with undercurrents of crime coming to the surface with domestic abuse showing it’s ugly face too.

It was a pleasure to read this and to enjoy the main characters. Easy reading with a bite to it!

I’ve loved Anna Jacobs books and read almost all of them, but sorry the latest ones, this is the third I found that I just couldn’t get into the stories and the style seems different to all the others. I dislike giving up on a book but again I did with this one as found it difficult to follow the story.

I love romantic fiction, but had never read anything by this author. I was given this by a friend, who is a huge fan and is trying to convert me. I found it rather formulaic and a bit purple prosey, which no doubt accounts for her massive success. Not really my kind of thing, but if it’s yours, it’s fine.

A pleasant easy read although somewhat predictable. Maggie is described as her advancing years, not sure I was too pleased about that as we are of a similar age! Maggie falls and sprains her ankle, soon after Lucia arrives on scene and helps. Lucia is in need of somewhere to stay and a new direction in life.

I've not read Anna Jacobs' books before ... and enjoyed this story. There were many unrelated parts - the family brewery; the military interests; the countryside building opportunities - however, the entwining of characters was lovely. This was a quick, easy and entertaining read.

A nice easy read to finish on for 2024! There were a lot of different aspects to the story, and the ending seemed quite rushed. The dialogue felt old-timey rather than modern (for being published in 2022).

Delightful story set in modern times. Usual Anna Jacobs story with a couple who fall in love and bad people try and upset them.

A great story filled with intrigue ,suspense and love.
This book shows that thieves and bullys and bullying tatics never prosper and good will always win out.
