Nameless. Forgotten. Lost on Earth for centuries with a disembodied voice as my only friend. Protecting the vulnerable without any help from above. No one to explain the rules. Nada. Zip. Zilch.
So when High Angelus Gavriel finds me killing a very bad man, can he really blame me? Before I can explain, he drags me back to the place he swears is my home: Sanctuary.
Halfway between Earth and the Celestial Realm, Sanctuary would be paradise if it weren’t for the daily decontamination showers, hours spent carving the murder-marks off my skin to discover my true name, and thousands of prim and proper angels who tell me I stink. Literally.
I’m the dirtiest Protector they’ve ever seen, but I can’t stop fantasizing about Gavriel and his best friends. Those sexy-as-sin High Angeli don’t know what to do with me, but I have a few ideas. I just need to find out my name so they’ll see who I am deep down… even if I have a feeling I’m no angel.
But what happens when my name is revealed… and it’s worse than anyone ever imagined?
Lost Feather is a humorous, steamy romance that ends on a cliffhanger. Over the course of the series, the main character will end up happily soulmated with more than one of the guys. And possibly an angelic gate. This book is intended for adult readers and contains real and made-up profanity, explicit scenes, and references to past sexual assault of a sibling. Please take care of yourself when choosing to read.
Once upon a time, Merri Bright tucked romance novels behind all her textbooks and read love stories instead of the lessons. Now she writes the same kind of books she’s always loved, dreaming up stories about naughty angels, misunderstood demons, sexy shifters, growly Alpha males, and all sorts of dragons.
She drinks cinnamon tea while she writes, and believes in the power of naps, kitten cuddles, and long walks with her dog. Come watch Merri be socially awkward at Merri’s FB page or Instagram @merribright, or email her at merri@merribright.com.
Thank you so much for reading Lost Feather! I hope you find Feather as funny as I did, and want to continue with her story. I promise the next two books in the trilogy will be filled with more steam, some judicious harem building, and the kind of groveling on the part of a few characters that will satisfy even the most vengeful readers. In each book, my goal will be to build the tension, introduce twists you didn’t see coming, and make you laugh and cry along the way.
Lost Feather is my first book that’s not Omegaverse, and I’ll apologize now if you read my Lost Lines books and you miss the knotting. ;) I will not apologize for the cliffhanger, but will instead work hard to get the next book out to you in August! You can pre-order Fallen Feather now (release date on Amazon is a placeholder): books2read.com/forgottenangel2 . The last book in the trilogy, Rising Feather, will follow soon after!
I love to hear from readers, and I take kindly worded criticism/advice into account when plotting and planning my next books. What follows are reviews for both the physical and audiobook versions of the story:
“Such a brave little sacrifice you are.”
Book Review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Do not start this book if you have anything to do. You will not get it done. Do not start this book if you have anywhere to go. You will not leave. Do not start this book late and think you will get a good night’s sleep. You will stay up all night reading.
Feather has been forgotten on earth for over four centuries, acting as a guardian angel for her charges and accumulating smut (sins). She is recalled to Sanctuary after completing her last assignment to be purified and examined, for she is not what she seems. While she is in Sanctuary, we see a female who has withstood some terrible moments in her past yet has been able to face them with strength and humor and yet remain selfless through all the pain.
I could not put this book down. Every chapter revealed another layer of Feather’s backstory, and I needed to know more. The book ends in a cliffhanger that makes you want to camp out in front of Merri Bright’s house lightly-stalk Merri Bright on all social media platforms to find out what happens next.
Audiobook Review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was a binge listen! The narrators did an amazing job bringing Feather and her men to life. I loved how Growly Bear's voice matched his personality and the emotions the narrators invoked through their performance.
The portrayal of Feather was absolutely wonderful!
Highly recommended!
Genre: Paranormal Romance Tropes/Features: Angels and demons, humor and heat, heartbreak, fated mates, LOTS of glitter, Angel FMC Narrator: Multiple 1st Person POV Narration Style: Dual style, Gabriel De Leon and Reagan West Relationship Type: Why Choose MF in this book, medium burn with building spice Book Type/Ending: Book one in The Lost Angel series, cliffhanger TW/CW: See Author’s Note in e-book
4 stars Really enjoyed reading this. New concept of angels I've yet to read about. The FMC is hilarious. Looking forward to reading more from the author
This brand of quirkiness is not endearing, it’s pretty grating. I’m not far into this book at all !!! Literally I’m at 6% and the FMC is too much. I feel like the author is trying to replicate Jess from New Girl, but it’s not landing for me.
These are some examples to explain my point (or make me look extremely dramatic, probably the latter 🙈)
Point 1 - She has just met this hot angel man, name unknown because I can’t remember it. Whilst she is pretend sleeping, he says something about ‘unmaking’ her (assuming this means killing), in response to this she called him a ‘big buttmunching…’. She gets cut off before she can continue. Anyway, I feel like this is the sort of phrase a 12 year old would use, before he discovers curse work. She just feel really immature and I have a feeling that these type of phrase will continues. (Am I overacting yet)
Point 2 (I only have 2 points) - Two pages later, she says the phrase ‘Hot sizzle sticks’ when she sees an angels wings. I don’t know why this pretend woman’s speech effects me so much, but it does 😂. This phrase is just stupid … it’s stupid. It just makes her seem soooooooooooooooo much younger than she is and I can’t picture an adult woman.
I think myself and the FMC are very different people, who probably wouldn’t be friends in reality. Acquaintances maybe, who distantly know each other, but no way would we be close. I think she is overly expressive and reminds me of a pre-teen.
Oh, I know who she reminds me of - Buffy the Vampire Slayers sister. If you know, you know.
In retrospect, I haven’t given the book of a real chance, but I’m not gonna force it.
I am shocked that I had not heard more about this series because this was right up my alley. This is a fantasy/pnr reverse harem why choose and the storyline is super unique. I've never read another book like this! I have seen the mixed reviews about the female main character, but honestly, I liked her! Yes, she's super weird and takes nothing seriously, but I found it refreshing. In my experience reading this genre, the FMCs in these types of books are either super naive/stupid/whiney or alternatively they're really snarky/rude/"badass." Feather reminded me more of Paca from the Dark Side series by Kristy Cunning. I was lolling at her and her obsession with glitter. I also felt bad for her centuries of abuse and then how she was treated once she was at Sanctuary, but her positive attitude was awesome.
In terms of the guys, I absolutely loved Mikhail (how can you not?!). Sweet growly bear wearing her weird t-shirts that she made him that say "Angel Daddy" in glitter (#dead). I'm also sooooo intrigued by Rumple - he's either another love interest or the villain (is he in the Gate??). I can't wait for Gavriel and Righteous to have to grovel after what Feather did at the end of the book. Super curious how she will return in the next book!
I'm so glad I picked this up! I would definitely recommend if you like paranormal romance, why choose/reverse harem books. It's funny and different! It's also very well-written.
This was written like a Wattpad story. The mc’s inner monologue is jus…… terrible and cringy. She’s supposed to have lived all these lives and be hundreds of years old but she acts like a 15 year old.
I NEED MORE CONTENT AND EVERYONE TO READ THIS BOOK.
I don’t even know where to start. I absolutely loved this book. The FMC, Feather, is funny and selfless and a new fave of mine. There is so much angst with all the men. I’m loving it. All of them are so different from another too.
The plot is pretty good. The world is built well and easy to understand. I sometimes get confused with world building but I was able to understand without too many questions. The story is very interesting, there’s so many mysteries following Feather that you can’t put the book down needing answers.
I need the second book asap. I have questions that need answers and characters to fall in love with.
Really enjoyed this one! The fmc, Feather, is such a joy and I loved her character. The plot was interesting and the interactions between characters was great with chemistry. I’m excited to see where this will go!
No MM No OW really - one of the guys has a mate but is not really there in this book FMC not a virgin, guys not current manwhores lol TW SA of a side character, not fully on page though
Omg!!! Ok so I normally wait until a series is complete before starting book 1. I hate waiting for books. Anyways have been on a book slump and nothing on my reread list was jumping out to me so I said the heck I’ll just start this book, there are already 2 books. I AM SO happy I started this book it was hilarious from the first few pages! I’m only at 8% in and about to consider buying the book just to keep bc that’s how good far it is. I hope it stays going.
WOW…yup good book. I’m gonna have to pony up and buy it for my shelve. Even thou it was at times predictable it was funny, interesting and kept me hooked. A little sad at the end but I bet book 2 will bring it up. I’m going to read book 2 right now if that one is just as solid as this I’m buying both and preordering the third.
this book is one of the best fantasy books i’ve ever read, it’s absolute perfection.
it’s so unique and the plot had me hooked. every page had me wanting more.
this book gave me the same vibes as four psychos which is one of my faves!!!!
feather is great, she receives lots of bad news throughout the book and she always has her head held high. her humour and dirty mind was hilarious and she’s such a badass. so selfless as well.
the guys…
mikhail- he’s such a teddy bear, i love that he’s not afraid of the consequences for being with her.
gazriel- i have no clue why but he’s my favourite. i think it’s the strong alpha vibes i get from him and he’s so bossy i love it.
righteous- he’s such a prick but i love him. i love it when feather annoys him.
rumple- we didn’t get much of rumple. i can tell i’m going to love him tho.
like i said the storyline had me hooked like it was so interesting, i was so scared to finish and i had a right to be…
THAT CLIFFHANGER HAS ME WANTING TO RIP MY HAIR OUT AND BASH MY HEAD AGAINST A WALL. MY GOD THIS AUTHOR KNOWS HOW TO WRITE A GOOD CLIFFY!
let’s just say if you’re thinking of reading this wait till the next one is out as it’s a brutal cliffy.
Well, I have so, so many feelings from this beautiful, special book that I don’t believe I can do it any sort of justice with this review.
In short? I loved it! I laughed, I cried, I inhaled it in half a day instead of doing anything else.
The book started with a heroine who’d clearly “been through a lot”, but there was no sickly-sweet, Pollyanna, woe is me, “someone save me” trope. Rather, there was Feather, genuine, soul deep beautiful, and truly funny. The harsher moments of her backstory were scattered in, adding depth without seeking pity.
The world and adventure were unique, and I really enjoyed being led deeper and deeper in to Sanctuary, and to the storyline.
Author Merri Bright is very open about the fact that this book ends in a cliffhanger. However, the plot and characters did develop enough through this novel that I wasn’t left feeling unsatisfied, just eager to see “what’s next”. I will be jumping on the next book as soon as it is released, and recommend this one wholeheartedly.
I did receive an ARC for this review, but my opinions and reviews are unbiased.
the weird humor FMC vibe is really…. weird (is a first for me k i came in blind reading this 😂) but the plot made this book more enjoyable! I suppose the FMC has to deal with her trauma somehow. I felt really bad for her; for her existence.
The FMC is very… childish (and some of her dialogues/conversations are questionable) but for some reason i just couldn’t put this book down. I had to know what happen!
That ending was so heartbreaking… I hate cliffhangers
Sidenote: I’m not too sure about Gavriel, he can’t really be one the harems right? :/ if he is… well then, shame. I sure hope there are redeeming qualities for him in the next book lol
Audio: 4 stars for Reagan West 2 stars for Gabriel De Leon (didn’t love his narration)
Book: 3.5-4 stars
It was a pleasant surprise getting so hooked on this book when I couldn’t find any book that would hold my interest. I think I really need to change what I’m reading to get me out of this reading funk haha
Either way, it was a decent read and will jump into book 2!
I really loved this book and I’m not usually a fan of Angel reads. Give me demons any day. Funny thing is I’m pretty sure the heroine would agree with me even knowing she’s kind of an Angel herself. Feather was an amazing heroine and it was impossible not to love her. She’s outspoken, brave and just so open to the world and it’s wonders it’s maddening how everyone treats her. While this is not the typical setting for an RH series like an academy, Lost Feather takes place in a whole other realm, a place Guardians aka angels go to reboot. The book features some harsh bullying but it’s all verbal and something I really hope Feather makes them regret. Then again this girl is covered in smut. Such a hilarious and odd concept but makes sense cause even angels aren’t perfect and when they mess up they get smutted up 😆 I dunno I just really loved this and thought it was hilarious at times, sentimental at others and completely kept my attention away from real life!
Feather has been reborn on earth hundreds of times never knowing what she was. During her last life, she kills a man to protect a young girl, and she is brought to Sanctuary, a sort of in between, by the High Angelus to try and purify her soul of all the sin she accumulated while on earth. Unfortunately for Feather she has so much sin, or what they call smut, on her from being on earth for hundreds of years that none of the other angles want her around. Unless she wants to be unmade or sacrificed to save the sanctuary she has to endure hours of cleansing with a soul knife by literally cutting away the sin from her body.
I loved Feather as a female lead. She was so strong but it was heartbreaking to read what she has had to endure. Then to be treated like an outcast once she finds out the truth of her origin was so sad to read. I loved the story though and I am excited for the next book in the series.
The ending made me bawl as much as I did for Pack Darling: Part One. I will be anxiously waiting for the release of the next book. T_T I hope there will be crap loads of grovelling..... ------ Ratings - completed series: #1 Lost Feather (this book): ★★★★★ #2 Fallen Feather: ★★★★☆ #3 Rising Feather: ★★★★☆
Holy shit I feel like I’m living in an alternate universe with these reviews
Hey guys and gals! Did you know it’s SINFUL to save kids and women from evil men?!?!? From this horribly written and stupid book, it’s VERY sinful! So much so that sin is represented as black sludge oosing from the FCs skin! I guess we should just let men be men and boys be boys. Let them do what they will to women and children. Because even though the FC is 400+ years old, she is really but a child with vocabulary like “buttmuncher”.
But it gets better! Because she’s obviously written like a 13 year old girl, a child, we get erotic scenes with 3 plus full grown men! Isn’t that HOT!? Oh it gets better! Because this child who happens to be 400 is a VIRGIN! 🤪 how quirky. She’s not like other f e m a l e s you know! She’s drenched in oozing sin because she likes to rescue children, she’s never been *~*touched*~* before, AND can take 4 men with her virgin pussy!
Now doesn’t that sound like a fun sexy plot! Let me get my debit card and pay $13.99 for book 2.
Its been a very long time since a book took a hold of me to the point of staying up late and going absolutely crazy if I didn't finish it. I was completely taken with this book, And its enchanting storyline. the complete heartbreak I felt for feather! its was seriously heart wrenching, I cried a ton. but it was hilarious as all hell as well. I was on a rollercoaster of emotions the entire read, And yet this has been the best book I've read of this year. I'm not sure how I felt about the guys beside growly bear, but I loved them together. Loved feathers character so damn much. I honestly can not wait for this entire series to be out. I know deep down its going to he amazing just as this first book is. 10 stars! Highly recommend
I questioned myself a couple of times if I really wanted to read this book... But I have no regrets about giving this book a shot and I'm happy that I did because I've been thoroughly entertained and quite pleased that this author didn't make this storyline so predictable. I appreciate the characters development especially with Feather. I laughed with her, got mad with her and cried with her... Awww my sweet Feather!
DNF 18% I can’t get behind the juvenile behavior and “cursing”. I can’t imagine reading further and getting into actual smut with her talking like that.
I can't with this heroine. She is like a horny teenager with the maturity level of a five year old. I guess it is supposed to be funny, but it is just annoying.
LOVED IT!!!! I'd like to give it ALL the damn stars. It's silly, sweet, interesting, raunchy, (but only a little spicy), and just all around wonderful.
Feather is a definite bad-ass but she's always wayyyy under-estimated and looked down on. She slowly wins over the few 'people' who matter, and by the end of this book, everybody's basically in love with her lol. But she chooses to sacrifice herself (cuz DUH that's what she does lol) to try and save the Sanctuary realm... (Sanctuary is where almost this entire book takes place; it's a realm between Earth and the Celestial realm, where angel-like beings learn/train and where they live while they purify themselves between Earth missions).
The different types of angels/beings in Sanctuary are: (1) Novices (youngest, no wings). (2) Protectors (like guardian angels, they have wings, and they're assigned different Earth missions where they'll protect a human charge from an evil influence). (3) Guides (like teachers, but the most judgey & arrogant angel-like beings, so I think they suck). (4) High Angeli (golden "angelus" beings, they're in charge, with big wings, and they're very old and very powerful).
Main characters are: (1) Feather aka Tili aka 'Nothing, the Useless Scrap of Arabella the Beautiful One' is the FMC. She rocks. She's like a miniature-formed High Angeli. She is one of a kind. She was an extra bit of soul material that Mikhail had Azazel discard after Mik finished constructing Arabella 400 years ago. Feather ended up on the Earth realm as basically human, and who knows what would've happened to her if she'd lived that first life normally -- but she didn't, so she got to meet Rafe (kinda) and the rest is history... in her first life, as "Tili" in Rome, she was only like 6 I think when she saw her sister (Dina) be assaulted & killed by some disgusting evil mailman dude; Tili chose to kill the molester, and struck a bargain with Rafe (🥵) afterward to continue to be his Little Sacrifice and keep protecting Earth's humans from similar evil bastards in many different reincarnations of herself for the next 400 years... Tili eventually chose to go by "Feather" bc Tili was short for Inutilia which translates to Useless, which she obviously didn't like being called, even if it was accurate (she couldn't successfully do anything important - aside from the sacrifices - since her true name rendered her literally useless)... After killing a molester in the modern world, to protect her charge Lily, Feather was discovered by the High Angelus Gavriel. He was shocked that she had shined such pure light on the crime-ridden Chicago area where he had been flying over, since Feather herself was covered in soul grime so dark, it covered her in thick gray layers (visible to other angelic beings only). Gavriel took Feather with him to Sanctuary to try and purify her and find out where she came from.
(2) Gavriel. One of the MMCs. Gavriel is the High Angelus who found Feather on Earth and brought her to Sanctuary. He is the broody bosshole in charge of Sanctuary. He has been grieving the "loss" of his mate Arabella for 400 years, (even though she's kind of just in a coma, and he only got to meet Arabella for like an hour before her newly constructed body just gave up), and he has been resigned for centuries to the fact that the Golden Gate is failing and Sanctuary will fall and there's nothing they can do about it. He stopped all of the music in Sanctuary, he stopped having crafts, he stopped sending Protectors on dangerous missions (they just got small easy stuff), so that nothing would require extra energy and so the Golden Gate could be maintained for as long as possible -- supposedly. Obviously Gavriel was in deep denial and handled everything in the worst possible way. Music would have helped the Gate, taking on bigger missions would have helped, etc. He was just scared of losing anyone else, and he kind of just gave up on everything. Boo!!!! Then he takes it out on Feather, which was just bullshit. Gavriel needs to own up to his shit real fuckin fast in book two.
(3) Mikhail. My favorite MMC. Mikhail is the High Angelus who is "the Master" & "the Maker" - he creates the new constructs for all new angelic beings in Sanctuary. Feather calls him Growly Bear; Angel Daddy; Holy Hotness; and so many other amazing nicknames. 👏 Mikhail takes a long ass time to figure out who Feather really is, and then, once he does, he feels super guilty & ashamed for how she was treated - first by him when he made her, then by everyone on earth for 400 years, and then by him & everyone on Sanctuary again when she arrived with Gavriel. Mik is impressed with Feather's strength of character and her ability to withstand pain while she spends hours painstakingly carving the soul-grime off of her body with the torturous Soul Knife every day for months, in an effort to finally purify herself. He falls for her, and he ends up saving her life by sharing a Mate feather with her (making her his lifelong soul Mate) when she was dying from taking on Righteous' soul-grime crap. Mik "merges" with Feather (sexes her up good), even though it is heavily frowned upon by everyone else in Sanctuary. And Mik is heartbroken at the end when Feather chooses to sacrifice herself to the Golden Gate.
(4) Righteous. Another MMC. He is one of the leading Protectors, and he is close to being eligible to ascend to a High Angelus status(at least for part of the book). Righteous is like the hot & cold bully who can't make up his mind. He wants Feather, but he's disgusted by her, and he thinks he's soooooo much better than her. He doesn't realize she is Tili from his failed mission 400 years ago, when he was assigned to protect her sister Dina and obviously fucked that up big time... since then, he has been driven to be as pure and perfect as possible. He gets grimier and grimier around Feather though because his thoughts are so wrathful - he keeps wanting to punish her - and it's leading him down a path of darkness. Feather saves him when she takes on his soul-smut herself, but then of course she's dying, and Mik has to save her. Right at the end of this book, Righteous finds out that Feather was the woman he envisioned kissing when he was singing to the Gate that one time. He decides to cut off his wings to save Feather from having to make her Great Sacrifice to the Gate.
(5) Rafe. The last MMC. He is the elusive Seraphiel, the first of the created High Angeli, and he was the BFF of Mikhail and Gavriel, before he sacrificed himself 2,000 years ago. He speaks to Feather in her mind, to help guide her through her many lives on Earth. Feather never saw him, she just called him Rumple while she tried to figure out what his real name was. Rafe is trapped in the Gate (maybe?) and he is sad when he finds out Feather got herself trapped in there too. I think it's a safe bet that Rafe is also super pissed at Gavriel, bc Gavriel has done such a shitty job of leading Sanctuary. Gavriel almost definitely forgot some promise he made to Rafe about helping him out if/when Rafe ever sent a feather as like an SOS.
(6) Sunny. The female best friend. She is a Protector. She has the most soul-grime on her body before Feather arrives in Sanctuary, so Sunny is assigned as Feather's tour guide and watcher / keeper. Sunny legitimately befriends Feather though, and together, they get into some shenanigans.. like bedazzling t-shirts to say "Hot Wings" for example... By the end, Sunny is shiny as all hell, bc she has been living honestly and joyously with Feather for months.

For fans of Raven Kennedy’s Heart Hassle series, I’ve found your next read.
I read this book in a matter of hours. I stayed up until nearly 3 am to finish it because for some reason I thought it was a good idea to start a new book at like 8 pm. It was addictively good. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is that based on some ARC reviews book 2 is even better and I wanted to leave room for that growth. Thankfully for me book 2 comes our August 24th so I don’t have to wait long.
This book follows Feather. A guardian of some sort who has lived countless lives protecting others by taking on their sins, which for some reason is referred to as smut. Odd but that's okay. Anyways, after her latest stint on earth, she is brought back to the Sanctuary which is apparently where all Protectors are supposed to return between each mission to cleanse themselves of sin before being returned to earth. Only thing is that Feather has quite literally never been there in all her life. Throughout her time there we learn more about her and everything she has had to endure throughout her relatively sort immortal existence. We fall in love with this strong, sympathetic, humorous young woman who despite everything remains bright and optimistic.
And it isn't just Feather we become invested in. All of the characters so far have layers to them that are slowly being peeled back and every single one is interesting and shows promise. I literally could not put the book down and I quite honestly cannot wait for the next one. Again, I'm glad I read this when I did because my wait will be very short.
A fudging whirlpool of emotions and actions. My heart broke every time and I shed many tears, I admit. Tears of sadness but also of joy! Feather is ridiculously funny. It’s a story abt sacrifices, love, friendship, forgiveness, acceptance and so much more. Some people might find it cringe (loosen up, babe) and immature (alr, old man) but idc.
Note to future self: check ur kindle notes, girl. They’re hilarious, I promise.
