I read (listened) through the Bible via the Bible App and the Bible Recap plan! I also listened to the Bible Recap podcast along with the chapters each day. I loved her explanations and the way she presents information. She sticks with biblical truths and circles everything around God and how he is working. I’m looking forward to doing it again next year!
Was able to read the entire Bible from Jan-Aug31 by reading 4 chapters a day and for a month or so reading several psalms alongside of those 4 chapters. A lot of reading but manageable and so profitable! Plan to just do it again!
Lol this is silly but also true I have in fact read the entire Bible and I read it every day so I feel like it should go on my Goodreads -finished going through the Bible a second time now 😝
This was my 2nd time in the 20 years I’ve been a Christian to read through the entire Bible. The first time was really hard, the second time was a game changer- I loved it and as soon as I finished, I started another annual read. Reading the whole Bible gives us the full scope of Gods plan of redemption.
In all seriousness, I recommend the 30 day reading plan during the time of lent and would love to incorporate this each year. It provided a unique point of view to just read chronologically and see the overarching storyline of the Bible, rather than my usual spending time in the nitty gritty details of verses and books. Both are good and needed, but this was my first time doing the first.
If you ever want to really challenge yourself, your beliefs and how you see the world (regardless of your current political or theological views) I highly recommend completing a bible-in-a-year plan.
Best collection of books ever written. The words speak to your heart and pierce through your soul, sharper than any two edged sword. You will laugh, you will cry, you will want to share it with everyone that crosses your path. It encompasses every genre, want to read of romance, intrigue, thrillers, mysteries, witches, kings & queens, marriage, self help, parenting, history? It’s all here and so much more.
The meta narrative is beautiful, it’s a love letter! It’s all about a carpenter that happens to be the most knowledgeable teacher to ever live. As the students listen it is revealed that he is more than a teacher, he is a heroic, powerful, compassionate savior, and king that sacrifices his life to save the ones he loves. He invites them all to a kingdom of light that encompasses all that is good and magnificent. A place more beautiful than Pandora that mere mortal finite minds could not dream of.
Sadly, some choose to live in a place of darkness, anger, hate, anxiety, and depression, because it is all they have ever known and it has hardened their hearts. Although many hate the king and choose darkness over him, his heart’s motives are more pure than gold, he cares about the welfare of the people, and he continues to offer the kingdom to them. He only wants what is best for them, and he knows that living in a kingdom of light is far better than a kingdom of darkness.
There is a condition… To enter the kingdom of light you must believe the teacher/ savior/ king and the truth that he speaks. For everyone to hear the truth he deploys everyday average people who have chosen the kingdom of light, individually called disciples collectively called the church, to share his teaching. That all may hear the good news and have an opportunity to know about the kingdom of light and decide for themselves if they would like to enter.
After reading you will never be the same. You will have questions. You will want to deep dive into topic studies. You will want to know this teacher/ savior/ king for yourself. You will want to read it again.
During the summer of 2018, I decided that I wanted to start listening to the Bible for 30 minutes a day. Since then, I've went back and forth between listening to the ESV and the NIV, but this entry marks my eighth time listening to the ESV. I'm coming up on five years of listening for 30 minutes per day.
I feel silly “rating” the Bible, but this is the first time I’ve read through the Bible in a year, and while it was challenging, I am so moved by seeing scripture in its entirety.
This year I listened to the audio Bible for a different intake experience. I followed a Bible reading plan in conjunction with a devotional by Dick Brogden titled, "Live Dead - Joy". Every day we read a passage from the OT, a passage from a Gospel, a passage from Acts and the Epistles, and a Psalm. I loved going through the Gospels 4x in one year.
This is not my favorite translation, but it is worth reading. I would pick this up before the NLT or the current NIV for sure. It communicates the gospel accurately and effectively.
