As moms in the trenches, we long for perspective. We need to know what matters, that we’re doing a good job, and that our kids will be okay.
We need to hear from a veteran mom with street cred–someone with years of parenting experience under her belt and dark circles under her eyes. Battle scars are optional but appreciated.
We want her straight talk, but we prefer she delivers the difficult truths with empathy, humor, and hope. Most of all, we need her to point us to Jesus–the ultimate source of perspective.
Mom, You’re Amazing: And Other Things I Want to Tell You is the book moms need.
In this collection of essays, Sandy Cooper draws from her 25-year parenting journey to guide moms with refreshing honesty and spiritual encouragement. With wisdom and wit (and also dark circles and battle scars), she offers insights and reflections on every stage of parenting, from infancy to young adulthood.
Sandy Cooper is an award-winning author of three books, a podcaster, and a professionally certified home chef.
She has been a wife to Jon for over 30 years and is mom to three young adults and a 9-month-old son in Heaven. She has been helping frazzled moms find peace since 2008 at thescooponbalance.com and is the co-founder of Writing Off Social, where she helps female Christian writers grow their audience without social media.
She podcasts weekly at The Balanced MomCast and Writing Off Social: The Podcast from her home office in Florida, where she lives with her family.
I loved opening this book each time and just seeing the title. That alone helped me feel cheered on in my lonely motherhood journey.
Her stories are relatable, and I never felt like she was cramming anything down my throat. She is just a mom who has been through things and wants to encourage us to keep going.
I love it. I needed it and I’m so grateful for her.
I am a grandmother, who thoroughly enjoyed reading "Mom, You're Amazing!" Before I even began reading this book, the one thing I already knew about Sandy is that she has a true love for our Heavenly Father. She is not afraid to share her faith, her strengths, or her failures. I greatly appreciated Sandy's transparency on times of being frustrated with God. And her learning to allow God's will and timing to become a part of her life. That she now chooses to cry out to Him first when she's reached the end of her rope. I will definitely share and bless other moms and grandmothers with this book. I know it will be a blessing to all those who take time to read it. May God continue to bless her as she continues to serve Him.
I am a huge fan of everything Sandy Cooper does. Her blog, podcast and books all speak fully to my heart. She’s the real deal-a Christian mom who doesn’t sugar coat mom life but also brings hope, encouragement and support to us other moms. Her messages are grounded in her faith and her love for God and she has nuggets of wisdom that I put into practice when parenting my children. Mom, You’re Amazing will make you laugh and cry (sometimes at the same time!) but most importantly it will guide you to a deeper understanding of parenthood and the fact that we are most certainly not alone in our journeys. It is beyond relatable. I plan on gifting this to all the amazing moms in my life.
A message that every mom needs to hear! Reviewed in the United States on April 14, 2022 I've been listening to Sandy Cooper's podcast: The Balanced Momcast for the past few years, when I became a stay-at-home mom after leaving my job as an elementary educator. I found the episodes encouraging when life became overwhelming, lonely, and left me questioning if I was doing enough as a Christian, a wife, and mother. I now have two daughters and am 11 weeks pregnant with our third child. Reading Sandy's new book, Mom You're Amazing, is a reference of stories from a mom who I think any mother can relate to. Her touching and heartwarming stories left me engaged, cringing, laughing, and misty-eyed, not unlike moments in motherhood. I found that many questions about personal image, housework, ministry calling, grief, opportunity, and more are topics that all mom's can relate to. Also, with Sandy's Christian perspective, the book leaves room for personal growth and reflection as commonalities are discovered. Sandy is further along in her motherhood journey than I am, so I found many of the insights to be like that of a mentor mom. There is hope in the valleys of motherhood and someone who understands the elation of motherhood, too. I'm thankful to have this reference of stories to come back to time and again.
This book is beautiful! As soon as I was done, I immediately wanted to order more copies to give to all my Mom friends. Each essay is so relatable and had me laughing, crying, and nodding along. Sandy Cooper is an amazing writer who does such a great job encouraging moms right where they are, pointing them to truth and to Jesus, and cheering them on. It's like a hug in a book! I even think it'd be a great book for Dads/Husbands to read, just to dig deeper into knowing what the life and heart of a Mom is really about. Highly recommend!
I really love this book and would recommend it to every mom! Seriously - if you are a mom of kids any age from babies to adult children you need this book. It is such an encouraging and affirming book for moms. Sandy tells these beautiful stories in short easy to read formats. In just few minutes she will speak right to your heart with laughter and tears and love and compassion. I highly recommend this book!
This is easily one of the best books I’ve ever read. I don’t think I made it through a single chapter without crying because it made me feel so validated, encouraged, and SEEN. If you’re a mom, you should get this book. If you want to be a mom, you should get this book. If you know a mom and want to know a little bit of what she’s thinking, you should get this book.
Sandy is gifted at weaving parenting truths, spiritual wisdom and humor into everyday parenting adventures. She is authentic, witty, and profound. I will return to her parenting gems and spiritual insight over and over. She is honest about her struggles and the painful work parenting can be but she demonstrates that beside this there are profound miracles, inexpressible joy and new perspective.
I have been a grateful listener to Sandy's podcast ("The Balanced Momcast") since it debuted, and before that I enjoyed and gleaned wisdom and compassionate empathy from her blog ("The Scoop on Balance") and previously published books ("Finding Your Balance", and "Is the Voice in My Head God or Just Me?"). Her words have helped me to get through some very turbulent phases of life. I will be forever grateful for her openness and willingness to share her life for the sake of others. Her newest book, Mom You're Amazing!, is every bit as encouraging. Pulling from all phases of her parenting journey, some extremely difficult, like the death of her son, Sandy shares her life and her heart in such a kind and compassionate manner. She openly shares the lessons she has learned along the way, encouaraging all us mamas that we are worthy and capable, despite the mistakes we will make, and pointing us to God who will give us what we need every step of the way. Christian believers or not, every mom will be encouraged by "Mom, You're Amazing!" I will be sharing this book with so many of my friends!
Sandy's writing draws me in! From the introduction I felt her acceptance and non judgmental welcome to all moms. My journey as a Mom of teens the last few years has been hard and painful. I desperately needed someone to tell me it's ok. I am ok. This book is filled with honest, real life Godly advice and support, from one Mom's heart to another. It doesn't matter what stage of Mom life you are in. This book holds the love and support we all can use.
