He was older. Impossibly gorgeous. And had no clue I existed.

Luca Fritz was the worst sort of playboy, constantly falling in and out of love with every woman he met. I used to spend hours of my life staring at the huge Fritz mansion from the window of the staff house dreaming of him. By eighteen I’d all but given up my fantasy, set to go off to The Conservatory in London to follow my dreams when fate stepped in with other ideas.

That summer I was young. Innocent. And forbidden to him.

I knew when we succumbed to the explosive passion between us that he would inevitably ruin me.

I wasn’t wrong.

Four years later, fate decides to step in again. I’m offered my dream job as a first chair cellist for the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Only I know what comes with it.

Luca Fritz.

On opening night, he comes barreling back into my life. Desperate for a shot at his second chance. A second chance I have no intention of giving. Now a brilliant neurosurgeon he thinks he knows exactly the right way to crawl back not only into my bed but into my heart.

I don’t care how persistent, unexpected, or clever he is. I am not that love-sick teenage girl anymore. It’ll take a hell of a lot more than panty-melting smiles and heart-stopping encounters to win me back over.

This cocky playboy is about to learn that all’s fair in love and war. And this is the latter.

DOCTOR PLAYBOY is a 120k word STEAMY and EMOTIONAL second chance, age-gap romance. It is a standalone in the bestselling Boston's Billionaire Bachelors series featuring Boston's hottest billionaire doctors and the women they fall head over heels for!

update: 19/05/22 authors who listen to their readers???

description

when authors see any criticism their readers have put out, it’s extremely rare the author actually listens. some can get pretty defensive and isolate their readers by doing so. but most just don’t comment on any criticism at all which is totally valid too.

but the respect you garner as an author to take the time to listen to readers, hear their thoughts and then actually adjust their writing to better suit their readers? unmatched.

so seeing J. Saman adjust this book a little bit after a few arc readers (including me) had an issue with one aspect of the storyline, was honestly so insane to me. but in the best way. it’s really nice to know she values her readers opinions so much and actually cares what we think.

i already enjoyed so many of her books before, but now knowing the type of person she is also elevates my preexisting relationship with her books.

so im adjusting my rating to four stars now! im gonna leave my original review below since a lot of my thoughts are still valid, but the change she made has just elevated the book for me completely! so the part in my review below where i state that there was something that bothered me that Luca did in the four years apart... scrap that now😭 (it’s hard changing it without rearranging my whole review so ive edited bits and pieces since i really don’t have the patience to change everything).

rereading the updated version just made Luca go 📈📈📈📈 in my eyes. so im a lot happier than i originally was the first time round :)

again, shout out to J. Saman for caring so much about her readers when not all authors do.

*******

this is probably one of my most anticipated reads of 2022 and i was literally so hyped to get an arc. Luca and Raven have had me enthralled since book one. i knew their past was turbulent and their story was gonna be angsty as hell... and all of that was true but it doesn’t mean it was executed well.

obviously i won’t get into the spoilers and name the specifics, but yeahhhhh, just think of the things that tend to ruin a second chance romance and make it frustrating to read... and you’ll have some idea of why i was pretty irritated with Luca.

there was something he did during the four year separation that just completely undermined every beautiful, heartfelt and romantic thing he said. honestly, if J. Saman changed that... this would have been a solid four stars for me.

i didn’t like his arrogance at times. he wasn’t always willing to put aside his own cocky agenda and usually let it get the best of him. i definitely understood his motives behind his actions, but i didn’t like how he very rarely owned up to how badly he fucked up. he thought his love spouted in poetic words was enough, and for me it wasn’t.

don’t get me wrong, that man can wax poetics any day of the week. his devotion and love for Raven was palpable, so i was pretty disappointed to find myself disliking him so much :( he was all pretty words with very questionable actions. the things he declared to Raven? the swoon was so real. but some (not all) of actions would undermine everything he devoutly declared and i was just left super unimpressed, just looking at him like

description

he just didn’t win me over and im really bummed about it. i was expecting so much angst and grovelling, with all the teasers we’ve previously seen of them. particularly the flowers, gah the flowers! but im left feeling really underwhelmed. even though a handful of things bothered me, i could seriously overlook them all if just that one thing had been changed. i know it bothers a lot of other readers when it comes to second chance romances so, i know it won’t just be me annoyed with this detail.

he just rubbed me to wrong way for like half the book. any time he did something sweet i was like “awww omg🥺😩 wow, he— wait, fuck no.” i was just dragged back into why i was side eyeing him the whole time. i truly couldn’t look past it.

i also think the past chapters needed a bit more exploration and depth? parts relied on telling without showing, so the basis of their relationship felt rather weak despite the intensity of their connection. it was extremely insta-love (which isn’t my cup of tea, but luckily the present chapters outweighed the insta-love aspect in the beginning since Raven and Luca had such a long way to go). but i did find it unbelievable on Luca’s part. honestly... the main problem this book for me was him :/

Raven though????

description

i adored Raven so much, eurghhh💘 she was delightful. definitely one of my fave heroines by this author. she broke my heart too. i felt her pain to severely that i teared up a lot. seriously, the way my chest hurt reading some of the things she told Luca about how the four years apart impacted her. how hurt and lost she’s been. i think that only heightened my adoration for her and my dislike of him, truthfully. i feel like he didn’t make up for just how much pain he put her through. i just struggled to connect with him, but Raven was the saving grace. she was so easy to root for, a true delight to read.

i just expected more. i don’t think my super high expectations helped either, tbh. but Luca didn’t help either lol.

i did love seeing the rest of the Abbot-Fritz family. Kaplan’s sneak peak literally has me so damn excited!! i can’t wait, oh my god. his heroine seems so adorable too, so definitely can’t wait for that one. but so far, Oliver is the superior Abbot-Fritz brother, hands down.

thank you to Grey’s Promotions for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!

I like it very much despite the awful title and the embarassing cover with the guy who seems a not so smart male stripper. Sad, because the story was much more.
- Uber obsessed and besotted hero
- True love and scorching hot passion
-Veeeery celibate hero after 4 years and not celibate heroine. Unbelievable!!!
The story is not original, the heroine is 11 years younger than the hero, he's a billionaire doctor and she's the daughter of his family's security chief. She's got a crush on him since forever and of course (thank god!) he's never seen her more than a lil sister.
He also saved her life when she was a child and fell in the swimming pool.
- He's a good guy, a doctor and an idealist, has been a manho for years (but we find out that most of his fame was due to gossip media)
- He's not seen her since she was 14, so he never coveted her before. He sees her again when she's 18 and it's love at first sight.
- They fall in love and they spend the summer having hot sex and making plan for their future.
-She's due to London for three years to study at the conservatory since she's a cellist and a very talented one. She's ready to give up the conservatory thing to move with him. When he realizes she's giving up her dream of course he tries to persuade her not to, and eventually he dumps her badly, telling her he doesn't love her and going away with another woman (it was all a pretense of course, he never did anything with that woman who was only helping him)
-The heroine is shattered and goes to London.
- Four years goes by.
-The heroine is back to Boston and the hero is there to win her back. He did what he did because he wanted her to grow up and to have her chance to be a cellist, but she's still angry and not trusting him.
He'll have to fight to win her back and eventually he will make a sacrifice to stay with her because he understands she's the most important thing for him.
- The book was really well written, maybe the sex scenes were too many but actually I wasn't bothered because they were very much in love and they not only had sex, but made love.
I loved the insight about emotions and feelings and I loved how both of them actually grew up and talked about their feelings.
I loved that in the end he wasn't so sure he did the right thing to let her go.
I think he was wrong of course to do what he did.
He dumped her and he made a choice that should have been hers, and actually she told him so.
She told him that she would have been happy with him and surely happier than she has been four years without him.
I loved that for once the author made the heroine not celibate while the hero has been celibate.
It was the right thing to do, since he claimed she was the one for him and he only let her go because he thought about her happiness.
The author didn't do the usual shitty thing that most other authors do, that is a hero who claims to love the heroine while having sex with multiple women.
He was the one to behave like shitty so he had the one to stay celibate. He paid with four years of celibacy because for him it was only her.
The heroine wasn't celibate because she actually thought the hero broke up with her and moved on, so in this case I completely approve the realistic choice for her to try to move on.
-I loved the passion and chemistry, I loved how much he loved her and how he realized that he couldn't risk to lose her and how he gave up a very important opportunity for him because he realized she was the most important thing. This made up for his poor treatment of her, and made her understand he loved her and could trust him.
- I don't approve his choice, I don't know if he showed his love for her, you don't give up the most important thing in your life for anything at all, and he didn't have to break her heart like he did risking that she really moved on with another man. What if she never came back?
What if she married another man? How this should show his love for her? I think that eventually he realized he made a huge mistake.
I think I'm going to read other books of this author, this one was pleasant and even if it was a bit long it was an unpudownable one!

This is hands down the best, most emotional, heartbreaking, romantic, and sexiest book that Julie has ever written. I've been waiting not so patiently for Luca and Ravens story -- especially since age gap is the BEST trope out there -- and omfg, what a beautiful book this was. Right from the start, you can just feel the overwhelming love these two have for each other. Their connection is truly breathtaking, and I loved how they always had to be touching each other in some way -- it was almost a desperate, crazy kind of love because it was so big, you know? And a love like that rarely comes around.

Luca, however good his intentions are, made so many dumbass decisions. The first part not only made me swoon so much, but had my heart aching, to the point where it physically hurt. I get why he did what he did, but God man, I just wanted to stimutaniosly punch and hug him. And Raven, goodness I love her so much. She is by far my favorite heroine out of this series despite the fact that she's the youngest; she was just so real and true to herself and her heart. I loved how she really made Luca prove to her that he wouldn't hurt her again, and from 20%-60ish%, was all grovel and I LOVED IT. In fact, Raven was a straight up Savage in one particular scene. Ifkyk, and I was cheering her on. Every decision she made just felt so real, and I loved the way Luca won her heart all over again. This truly is such a great book, and it's one I'll be rereading for sure!!

Also, just in case you need more incentive-- Luca stays celibate for the years they were apart, but Raven wasn't. That was such a huge turn on for me, and I love Julie even more for doing that.

Also also, that tease for Kaplan's book was SO GOOD. Bring on a plus size heroine who makes our resident doctor who's so against love fall super hard. Ahh, I can't wait!!

If you haven't read this author yet, what are you waiting for boo?! Go one click now!!

“Your mother was Israeli? Mossad?” “She was.” I lick my lips, a frog in my throat whenever I think of my mother. “My mother, the secret spy. I still don’t know how she died. I don’t even know if I’m supposed to know she was Mossad, though clearly, you do.”

Yeahhhhh fuck no

I read this because it was listed as a good grovel book and I needed that. However, I was counting down the dealbreakers and was ready to bail as soon as they became too much.

Dealbreaker 1: he White Fangs** her, including an impromptu OW showing up and saying that they were going to be leaving together, because he wants her to take advantage of an excellent professional opportunity and she won’t if she stays with him. White Fanging is never an acceptable tactic. It traumatizes the h for years. No matter how young she was, he should have spoken to her like an adult and been completely candid with her and then stuck to his guns.

Dealbreaker number 2: he is photographed with a million women while she’s away.

Dealbreaker 3: after the split, he sends showy, anonymous flowers to her at every concert she performs. She knows that these are from the H, and it prevents her from fully moving on because it brings her right back to the same memories. That is some manipulative BS and I am not there for it.

Dealbreaker 4: when he shows up to reclaim her, he has way too much smirk and smarm about it. He’s relying on their physical attraction to draw them back together and she is not having it.

After all these dealbreakers, you would think it would be done and I would have DNFed. However, when he first shows up to reclaim her and tries to smirk his way back into her bed and heart (including referring to her as his “wife”), she pushes him back forcefully and he suddenly realizes that he has REALLY messed up. From that point on, he makes declaration after declaration telling her that he loves her and that there has been no one else but her for him since she left four years ago. Yes, there is still some smirking, but it is heavily peppered with statements about how crazy he is about her. She calls him on the other women probably 40 times during the book and he continues to answer her patiently, because he knows she can’t trust him. At that point my verdict changes because he is serious, knows he has got to work really hard to get this wonderful woman back, is using his words, and he has been celibate. Those combined factors push this book over to an acceptable read with a passable grovel.

I don’t know if I’ll read any of the other books in the series, some of which seem to be on Kindle unlimited, because I didn’t find the book appealing outside of the appropriate groveling. However I will probably start the second book and DNF if it fails to deliver.

**In case you did not know, White Fanging is based on the novel of the same name where the boy is cruel to his beloved wolf because he needs to save him from danger. The problem is that in the United States this book is widely read and the boy’s noble sacrifice is considered the most moving and memorable part of the book.

Because some men are idiots, they think that White Fanging a woman for her own good is a noble thing and actually allows them to make it about them and their suffering. They can also use it to shut down the woman who has been victimized by this behavior, justifying this because they too have suffered.

I've been waiting for Luca's story since the previous book. When J. Saman started giving us one chapter per week in her newsletter, I had the chance to read Raven and Luca's beginning of their story. When I've got the ARC though I was estatic, because I was already upfront with some chapters 😁.

I loved both of them soo much. Yes, he did acted like total jerk at the beginning when they split, but to be honest his behaviour was justified. I do get from where he was coming from and why he did what he did. Still, those actions did caused Raven's heartbreak. Both of them deserved to have their second chance.

Within this book they did got over the past with quite a lot of bumps down the road, but even that, everyone could have seen how much they love each other. And I am glad that Raven understood Luca's reasons for breaking up with her in the past.

The Epilogue was soo good, because It gave us a glimpse from Kaplan's book. I can't wait for his book to come out ♥️♥️♥️.

Rating - ⭐⭐⭐.5
Spice - 🌶🌶🌶

Trope - billionaire romance, second chance, age gap, doctor × cellist, cocky golden retriever MMC, reformed playboy, it's always been you, stalking, SLOW BURN, groveling

Bonus chapter - 1 + 1(next book prologue)

I won't say I loved this book, but it wasn't bad. The book might not have started on the best note but it got better in the second half and was a whole new reading experience.

The first part of the book was weird, age gap tropes are good, but I don't know how I felt about this one. Luca was like a predator, following and chasing a young girl who caught his eye. Raven, wanted his attention like a teenage girl who would do anything to get the eyes of a man. The beginning just gave me several icks, especially from Raven, she came out slightly desperate.

Part 1 reminded me of Hopeless by Elsie Silver, where an injured MMC has lost his hope in life, and a young "full of life but sad" FMC enters and shows him what light, hope, and happiness feel like.

Initially, I was a bit skeptical about them seeing she was just 18, and he was almost 29, which later turns to 22 and 33. They were so in love before everything went south and he took matters into his hands to protect her dreams for her. I honestly feel, that if she had been slightly older she might have seen through his lies, but then again I can't blame her because Luca was known for that image.

I understood why Raven wasn't forgetful and was bitter about the whole break-up, nevertheless, I felt if she truly knew him she would have seen the sincerity in his apology but the pain and suffering clouded her judgment, and she couldn't help but think that he is lying for other advances.

I feel if Luca could have been less cocky after apologizing, she might have seen the meaning way sooner. Luca was a persistent man, Istg at one point I was done with him stalking and demanding things from her. I wish he just didn't imply sex after saying the sweetest and most meaningful words. It just undermined everything he did in the past four years.

Raven confused me a little because she kept acting like you did not want all the gifts or gestures Luca brought for her, but on the other hand she also never stopped taking them (except the flowers) like the other girls in the series did. She felt overwhelmed but also was happy, with these contradictory emotions I honestly never understood her. She was kind of childish to me, and I never connected the way I did with Amelia and Elle. Her reasoning was justifiable but then again it never felt like she genuinely wanted to push Luca away.

I loved Luca except when he was too cocky. I know he fucked up and did her bad, but then he was groveling hard to have one chance where she would listen to him and his reasons. It was sad watching him do everything for them and their future and still getting hurt by the words Raven spoke. I honestly feel if she had given him a chance to explain sooner rather than delaying the inevitable, this book would have gone way smoother, better, and faster.

I loved how things got better in the second half, he stopped pressing her and gave her time and he made the sweetest gestures. This poor guy was so in love with Raven that he set his passcode based on her birthday, and got himself tattooed. LUCA is a MAN OF WORDS, ACTION AND PROMISES, SWOONING. Let's talk more about this guy, he went out of his way and bought books with smut so he could understand how Raven feels, quoting Luca/Rina Fritz "In order to understand women, you have to know how they work. How they think. How they feel. But most importantly, how they want to be treated." OH MY POOR HEART.
Efforts matter, and he put a lot of them.

I liked how Raven was so strong and gave this big speech about never going back to Luca and how it wouldn't change the pain she suffered. But then, why did she not keep her self-esteem and leave him to be? I know it's a second chance romance novel but after such a speech I want to see a girl stand on her own without "needing" a man by her side and when she didn't do it, I was disappointed.

I think I internally cried in relief when FINALLY Raven reciprocated Luca's feeling and said ILY, even though I know I wanted her to be independent after "that speech" but after a point seeing how much they loved and craved each other. I think it was a justifiable moment.

These two had a good chemistry, just too many trust issues which get better with time. Raven and Luca have to be the dirtiest couple in the series at this point. Damn, the spice was on a different level in this book.

Watching Octavia Abbot Fritz, the matriarch in the hospital has to be the hardest thing I read in a while. It was like reading with a stone on my chest, and I just couldn't read because my eyes were foggy from tears. Everyone around her was in pain, including me. Another thing that broke my heart was Raven's mother's story.

The family and sibling bond was so special and bliss to read. Elle subtly gave Raven insight into Luca's Playboy life. The girl-talk moment was funny and weird at the same time, I just felt bad for Carter to have witnessed it all. *crying from laughter in the corner*. Iykyk.

Kaplan the man of the hour, visibly has been seen hiding his pain behind the big brother role and it just made me sad and realize the amount of responsibilities he had. His bond with Raven was so sweet and protective. He looked after her so well, and in this book, he played the cupid who brought Raven and Luca together. I can't wait to read his story next, this guy was such a sweetie but he had a mask on.

What felt weird to me was how they were every time in a relationship but ended up getting in a battle between choosing love or career. The fight felt unnecessary and repetitive, the first time it was her career, and the second time it was his. Yeah, repetitive. Again, I feel if Raven was older they could have handled the situation better, and honestly nothing creeps me out more than PDA, and watching their confession & confrontation in a public place did me wrong. If it wasn't for this, the book would have easily gotten 4 from me.

The ending was beautiful I loved how Luca chose a step that was for both of them. He wanted to be with his family, but most of all he wanted to be with Raven. He knew what distance did to them in the past and now he wasn't ready to let go, even if it meant turning down a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

The epilogue was sweet. My Oliver and Amelia are MARRIED, AHH!! According to me, Luca's proposal felt too soon, but ig it made sense from his pov where he has waited long for her and doesn't want to hold back anymore and asked the girl he loved to marry him.

Why was this one the longest? I have no idea. I liked it, but most likely won't come back for a second read.
I think this could've been written well but it just didn't catch up on me.
Overall 3.5/5

Oh man, I’ve been waiting for Luca and Raven’s story and this did not disappoint. This is a second chance, age-gap romance with ALL.THE.FEELS!

What girl wouldn’t love the guy who saves her life? And what woman wouldn’t hate the man who breaks her heart?

The relationship between Luca and Raven is complicated at best. They have a whirlwind relationship and part under difficult circumstances. Luca broke Raven’s heart for her own good and watches over her secretly for four years.

I really loved how Luca and Raven seem to bring out the best in each other. Raven is very insightful for her age and doesn’t let Luca wallow in self pity. Luca brings calm to Raven’s impetuousness. Even during their short time together you can really sense that their connection is real. And their chemistry … off the charts hot. Wowza.

When they reunite is it’s all sparks again, but not the good kind. Raven is MAD! It takes a long time for her believe in Luca’s motives, and it doesn’t help that he is constantly trying to get her naked. Lol

These two have a soulmate connection and you can’t help but root for them, even when Luca is being completely overbearing in his quest to get her back.

If you have been following along in this series, you will love all cameo appearances and the family interaction/interference.

I requested an advance copy of this book from Grey’s Promotions and these are my honest opinions.

I just could not get into this book

I tried. I really did. I even gave the first book in the story 5 stars even though the grammar and spelling errors were really cringy and hard to get through. But the story was so good! And the other 3 books in the series were wonderful and had much better editing. I have given every book in this series 5 stars so far, but this one was a struggle for me. I tried for about 150 pages and then just skipped to the epilogue. I may go back and try to read it again some time just to see if i can get through it. I didn’t really feel their chemistry in the first place and then, 4 years later, when they finally reconnected I thought he would have been more swoony to try to win her heart back. But all he did was demand she give him her panties, made non stop comments about how he bet she was wet even though she claimed to hate him (and she has a good reason). On like their 3rd time seeing each other she lets him eat her out and then walks away. I just wanted a little bit of him trying to show her the man he is now and that he always loved her but he made it all about sex and physical attraction and nothing else. I just needed more.

WHY IS THIS BOOK SO FREAKING GOOD? This is me sitting here and banging my head because I have not read J. Saman before 2022. Grave mistake. Don't make the same one. Doctor Playboy is ridiculously, absurdly and unbelievably amazing.

Who knew Luca Abbott- Fritz would hit me with all these feels? Who knew Raven Fairchild will make me go crazy with angst? This epic second chance romance was everything. Billionaire and famous neurosurgeon Luca Fritz found a solace and healing touch with Raven, the daughter of their security head who was on way to become a master cello player. He had to break her heart so that she will not abandon her dreams for him. He always planned to get her back. But has he done irreparable damage to her heart? Four years have passed and Raven is back to Boston. And Luca will do anything to prove his love.

This is undoubtedly my favourite story in the series. Hands down. I didn't expect it to be so angsty. I literally had goosebumps and chills while reading it. Even now, I feel like I am shaking with the aftermath of the emotional rollercoaster. Luca and Raven's connection is so strong. Their love is so powerful. Explosive. And it was also heartbreaking. So much pain. And they had to work through it all. So the author dragged me through the emotional hell and damn I loved every second. Raven is so strong and beautiful and sweet. But she is also emotionally vulnerable and Luca did hurt her. Luca had to win her trust and show his own raw emotions. And this man did it so well. Luca is definitely one of my all time favourite book boyfriend. He is not perfect. He has flaws and that makes him real. Charming. Alpha. Possessive. Protective. And whoa he can be such a dirty man. The chemistry was just too hot to handle. You will undoubtedly squirm and blush everytime they are close. The anger and pain was just on the other side of explosive passion. I absolutely loved how they both evolved over the years. How the heartbreak and distance shaped them. How they became stronger and closer with time. And let's not forget the whole Fritz family crew. These brothers are just awesome and I love them all! Doctor Playboy will make your heart ache and body sing in the best possible way.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟5* Forever Yours Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

This is the fourth book in the Boston's Billionaire Bachelors Series and can be read as a standalone, but I highly recommend you read the first 3 books as these billionaire brothers are off the charts sexy and addictive and are all renowned Doctors/surgeons.

Luca and Raven’s story did not disappoint. They have known each other most of their lives as Raven’s father works for the Fritz family and she grew up in the staff house on their property. Despite the big age gap between them there was always something special between them.

Luca is in the middle of his neurosurgery residency when he gets injured and is sent home to recover. This is when he crosses paths with eighteen-year-old Raven who is all grown up and beautiful. The attraction and chemistry between them was palpable and they fell hard and fast into a whirlwind relationship.

Unfortunately, the timing for any form of relationship was not in their favour as Luca had to return and complete his residency in Boston and Raven had a prestigious scholarship to attend The Conservatory in London, which was a dream come true for her. When hearts and trust are broken, they go their separate ways and Raven is beyond heartbroken.

When Raven returns to Boston and is now with the Boston Symphony Orchestra they cross paths again and so much hurt and anger prevails within Raven that she guards her heart and struggles not to let Luca back into her life. Unbeknown to Raven Luca has been watching her from afar as well as attending some of her performances. She did have a sneaky suspicion that the flowers she received after ever performance were from Luca.

Their love for one another was strong and fierce. They were perfect together and the road to their second chance at love was angsty and emotional. I loved this second chance romance, and it was a wonderful addition to the series.

Doctor Playboy is the story of Luca Abbot-Fritz and Raven Fairchild. Never have two souls been more fated to each other. The tones of this story are little different than the others in the series. We see Luca struggling with his mental health and the obstacles life has laid in front of him. He is convalescing after an injury to his shoulder that could stop his Neurosurgery dreams in their tracks. The bright spot in this time is the dark haired beauty, Raven.

Luca is a hero that pines. A hero who thought he was doing the right thing. He is determined to everything he can to show Raven he is her forever. But their HEA is not easily one and Raven hold his feet to the fire and makes him work for every inch she gives. This age gap second chance romance is enchanting and sexy. It is a story that shows the hearts desire is so powerful. I want everyone to read this book and experiences the journey of true love and fated souls. It is a story that shows joys and the sorrows of life but with your true love by your side you can with stand it all. Your hearts will find their way back to each other always!
Honestly a must read that is perfect for all the lovers of the HEA.

This is part of the Boston's Billionaire Bachelors series but is read as a standalone. Hottest Boston Doctor billionaire's and the women who capture your heart. If you like age gap romances you'll love this story. She was younger and crushed on him from afar. He was wealthy and she lived in the staff quarters of the Fritz mansion. Years later they reconnect when she is with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. The attraction and chemistry are there. Does she give him a second Chance? This was a great addition to the series and a fun read. Sexy and overflowing with drama. Steamy and more steam. The characters are likable and well developed and the story line is engaging. I read an advance reader copy and voluntarily chose to review it.

Obsessed, addicted, consumed are the only phrases that come to mind when I think of Luca and Raven! Their connection, their love, their journey was a wild ride and I strapped myself in and enjoyed every delicious word!!

This story is one that stands out apart from the others because Luca and Ravens love is deep, soul deep! Their journey is a wild one and not what you expect! Luca is not who I thought he was, he’s better WAY BETTER! Such an alpha and once he sets his sight one a goal that’s it he will achieve it!

Raven though is fire! She lays Luca on his behind every single time! The heat between these two is unrivaled and WOW!

Be ready for a very intriguing and all consuming read that will have you reading this beauty in one sitting !

Julie has a way with her words to create characters that will challenge their way at happiness at every turn of the page. That until they can’t go on like that, without acknowledging the feelings and love towards each other.

A heart can break many times, but it also patches herself along the way and forgives. Especially if that other person deserves and proves themselves worthy of that forgiveness.

And that's the case with Luca and Raven. A pair made for one another. Right from the beginning, their connection catches fire and that spark never dies through the separation years.

Beautiful, emotional and angsty, this story is perfect for any romantic soul.

Doctor Playboy is Luca and Raven's second-chance romance (where he's got to win her back!).

Synopsis:
Luca Abbot-Fritz is still recovering from a gunshot injury when he hears Raven Fairchild's soulful cello notes. The Abbot-Fritz are practically Boston's royal family, and their house manager and head of security's daughter, Raven, always had a crush on Luca since he became her saviour. While Luca's feelings for eighteen-year-old Raven feel forbidden to his twenty-nine-year-old self, Raven is thrilled that he finally noticed her.

Review:
Divided into two parts, the before and the after (Part I and II, respectively), Doctor Playboy tells the story of the playboy brother Luca (whose name even his twin threw around in the previous book to maintain anonymity and get dates, heh...). Now I know where half his playboy reputation came from.

I loved how bold and playful Raven is as she unabashedly gives Luca as good as she gets. And I'm talking about her mouthy self here, as well as other things. As usual, the story is in first person dual perspective, and their familiarity with each other and them being all touchy-feely added spice to the book.

In Part I, Luca is of two minds, he thinks he finally met his match in life but he's yet to finish his neurosurgeon residency and can't think of a steady relationship till then. There's also Raven, who is starting out in her life, has a bright future (she's a cello prodigy) ahead of her, and Luca doesn't want her to be tied down because of him.

The heartbreak may have been ugly but Part II makes up for it. Never have I ever read a hero who is as sensitive as the Abbot-Fritz brothers and who has had to grovel as much as Luca. Well, you do get what you give, in this case, it is Raven who is not able to trust any of his words because of his past actions.

Doctor Playboy was a new experience for me, where I got to read, in detail, what happened before in a second chance romance. Wow! The way J. Saman presented it was nothing short of magical.

They may have an 11-year age gap, but the gap in the story was of 4 years. Raven is an award-winning cellist and Luca is a neurosurgeon specialising in adult and paediatric well-being. (I'm sure there are much finer aspects of specialisation where neurosurgery is concerned but we'll not go there.)
I went from being a remorseless playboy bachelor to falling in love to a sorry sack of shit to blindly optimistic and hopeful.

That's so many emotions and the reason I prefer book boyfriends. Heh heh... Saman writes in a way that is equal parts humorous, a laugh-out-loud riot, emotional, hot, sexy, and romantic.

When Luca needs help to win Raven back, it was so lovely to see Landon and Elle, Grace and Carter, and others step up and be their usual funny and snarky selves. Oof... They all are so adorable.

But Raven has some really violent thoughts regarding Luca, talk about punishing someone for thinking them; well, he did horribly break her heart.
I’ve learned the hard way that I can be both strong and vulnerable. That it’s okay to be both. But right now, I need to be the former and not the latter.

I loved how the author gave us a glimpse of important scenes from both their viewpoints. Raven kept Luca on his toes, not allowing any of his shenanigans to really work.

In men written by women, the man in this one reads smut. And the plays out some of the perfect scenes (yep, food for thought, people!). There is also nothing more beautiful (to me) than the protagonists somehow sharing a workplace. Raven is a music therapist in the hospital where Luca works; her job is at once beautiful and sometimes heart-breaking.
... all we can do in this life is our best. We make choices and live with the outcomes. And sometimes, we get it wrong.

Toward the end, it is a complete tearjerker, what with the deteriorating health of one of the heads of their family. But there is a beautiful epilogue 8 months later.

P.S. I can't wait to read the eldest, Kaplan’s story, especially after reading about the bond that Raven and Kaplan share.

“The last four years apart were not because I questioned if you were the one. They were because I knew you were. Now I just have to get you to believe it too.”

Oh my gosh, I loved Raven & Luca so much! The writing was a plus point too. I was hooked since the very first page! The side characters were awesome and I loved the Fritz family so much, whenever they were on page, there was never a dull moment. Luca grovelled hard to win Raven back but I think it wasn't needed because everything he did, he did for her own good, though seeing him try hard to get her to listen to him was entertaining! I can't begin to explain how amazing this book was, it definitely got me out of my reading slump and I can't wait to continue the series.

I loved everything about this book! This whole series is great, and each book is amazing. This series will make it onto my physical bookshelf for sure.

This book features Luca Abbott-Fritz otherwise known as Doctor Playboy, and Raven, who is 11 years younger than Luca. They fall in love the summer she is 18 and both are staying at the Fritz family vacation home. Two months later and Luca is ready to head back to Minneapolis for his residency and Raven off to London to join The Conservatory where she plays the cello and they have a decision to make. Stay together and do long distance for the next 4 years, or break up. When Raven is unwilling to let him go, he makes the decision for her and breaks her heart in the process. But Luca never really gave up during those years apart, so when they are both back in Boston, he wants to pick up where they left off, but Raven isn't so sure. While she still loves him, she doesn't trust him and can't forget the cruel words he spoke to her 4 years earlier. Luca doesn't give up and he continues to pursue her and it doesn't take long for Raven's defenses to drop. Amid a family crisis, Luca learns about something that could change his life and jeopardize his relationship with Raven. It's obvious that they love each other, but the timing may be off, yet again, depending on how he handles this news.

I loved everything about this story. I loved the way they fell in love. I loved the age gap and even though she was 18, she was smart, ambitious, and what some call an old soul. She was only naive in the way all 18 year olds are. Luca was sweet and kind. He loves big. His family, his friends, and especially Raven. We also get a lot more of Kaplin in this book. Nothing major, just enough to keep you intrigued and wanting his book now. I absolutely recommend this book, but it's definitely best to read in order. If you enjoy large families who are always in each others business, sexy men with dirty mouths and smart, sassy women who put them in their place, you will not be disappointed!

A summer spent when Raven was 18 ended with her heart broken. Luca was 11 years older, a known playboy, and the son of her father's employer. She was no match for him and she knew it. Now it's 4 years later and Raven's about to come face to face with the guy who broke her. She's not the same naive girl she was at 18, though, which means she won't be succumbing to Luca Fritz's charm ever again.

Luca knew he was a jerk of epic proportions years ago when he broke his Raven's heart so she wouldn't forego her dreams to stay with him. But she's back from the Conservatory now and he's determined to have her. Determined to have a second chance with the only woman who's ever held his heart. He'll need to make sure he doesn't make the same stupid decision he did back then though, and put her second, make her the "go-between" she isn't and shouldn't be made to feel she is.

These Fritz men...sigh. Swoony guys with big hearts but massive idiots at times. I wanted to smack Luca so many times throughout his and Raven's story. He was arrogant, cocky and refused to admit his screw-ups when he was being a jackass. Luckily for him, though, Raven had an even bigger heart, maturity and the understanding that her man was a dumbass and forgave him for it. I'm still not sure Luca deserved a second chance, but my girl Raven definitely did. Doctor Playboy is hot, a bit angsty and I love that Raven got her happy. I'm really anxious for the next brother to find his love now, when Doctor Untouchable is released.

Overall Grade: 4.5 ⭐️

I came to J. Saman’s Boston’s Billionaire Bachelors series late in the series. Having begun with book 3, Doctor Heartless, I only have that book and Saman’s newest book, Doctor Playboy, as comparisons. Of the two, I have to say that Doctor Playboy is my favorite, even though grumpy, sullen heroes are my catnip. Even with that as a guiding force in Doctor Heartless, Doctor Playboy does everything right with second chance romance, and I didn’t realize until its end how right Saman was in drawing her story. Let me explain.

Doctor Playboy follows Luca and Raven. Luca is the “playboy” brother of the Abbot-Fritzs. In this story, he comes upon Raven Fairchild one night when he’s feeling desolate over his future. She is the daughter of his father’s best friend and estate manager. Looking like an ethereal creature, he spies her playing cello, and he falls instantly for her. She also happens to be 11 years younger than him. Raven has loved Luca from afar since she was much younger. As they spend more time together, while Luca is healing from an injury, they fall deeply in love. Raven is on the cusp of starting at the London Conservatory, however. And after he has fully healed, Luca is returning to his residency in Minnesota. Is it possible for them to conduct a long-distance relationship? Or will they fall apart in their absence? Luca makes a decision for them that cements their future, or does it?

So here’s why I appreciated Doctor Playboy. I’ve read lots of second chance romances, and one of the things that always frustrates me is how quickly the hero or heroine falls back in love with the partner who spurned them. Now, don’t get me wrong. As I was reading this book, I became frustrated with Raven’s stubbornness in taking Luca back. But I realized towards the book’s ending that I actually appreciated it. While Luca and Raven give in to their physical attraction, Raven stays firm in holding her heart back. This feels realistic to their story, and I appreciate Saman’s insistence on making Luca work towards building his trust with Raven.

Now, Saman and her PR company tout this story as a forbidden romance as a tertiary trope. The reality of it and one of the other things I appreciated about Doctor Playboy is that Raven and Luca aren’t really forbidden. Their relationship initially is not a secret to the family, and everyone accepts their relationship. I kept waiting for the moment when it would become a familial issue, but it never does. Instead, Saman focuses the entirety of her story on the couple, allowing the natural pitfalls of their career choices and the reconciliation of the relationship to drive her story. The development of the characters and their journey are impeccably drawn because J. Saman avoids the typical categorization of this type of love. It would have reduced Luca and Raven’s journey if she had followed the natural inclination of the forbidden, age-gap trope.

J. Saman’s Doctor Playboy is an emotional journey about the sacrifice of love. This book feels like a bit Sabrina with a side of spice. If you are a fan of second chance romance, you will enjoy this story.

I continue to devour the Boston's Billionaire Bachelors series. Luca and Raven's love story of a school-girl crush for a forbidden man is heartbreaking and very hot as sacrifices lead to a chemistry-filled reunion worth waiting for.

Dr. Luca Fritz, aka Dr. Playboy, is gorgeous, charismatic, relentless, and hopelessly in love with a woman he has sacrificed his life for four years. Was it worth breaking her heart to force her to follow her dreams? I guess he'll find out now that she is back in Boston. Operation Winning Her Back is going to be a tough road, but he won't stop until he gets the girl.

Raven Fairchild is a cello savant who is living her dream as first chair cellist for the Boston Symphony Pops Orchestra in her hometown of Boston with her father and the Abbot-Fritz family who practically raised her. She is proud of her accomplishments, but moving back to Boston has put her in the sights of the one man who broke her heart four years ago and abandoned her at her most vulnerable. The constant reminders of his betrayal in the form of flowers after every performance only devastated her more wondering why he tortured her. In her head, she thwarts his advances as he tries to wheedle his way back into her life if only her heart would listen.

Luca and Raven are on fire! The passion and ever-burning love between these two is so all-consuming.  The push and pull is unstoppable and kudos to the talented, stubborn, and headstrong Raven for fighting the good fight to make Luca work for it. Her pain was so palpable and I teared up many times as she describes the hurt she felt over Luca's betrayal. Luca is so used to getting his own way and watching confident and cocky Dr. Playboy struggle to change his tactics of wooing the woman of his dreams is a pleasure to watch. Luca did have good intentions for what he did four years ago, but his actions were not the best at the time and he wasn't my favorite of the brothers. He's a little forceful at times which rightfully earned him some pepper spray in the face, but with the help of family, he is able to make his actions count.

I love the Abbott-Fritz family and as the story continues to rally around the matriarch of the family and her recurrent cancer scare it gives a lovely feeling to the whole read. I recommend anyone read the whole series to get a better feel of the many characters involved. I was also very interested in Raven's background as the daughter of two spies. Her mother is deceased and her father is top security to the Abbot-Fritz family. I can't wait for Kaplan's story. Truthfully, I thought he would be a better fit with Raven with all of the wonderful help and kindness he gives to Raven during those four years apart from Luca.

I highly recommend this book and the whole series which is filled with endless emotion, crazy setbacks, and passion galore! Seriously, pick up this author, you won't regret it!

Thank you to Ms. Saman for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.

Luca Fritz the playboy doctor with the reputation of loving and leaving them. Everywhere you look there are pictures of this playboy with a different girl almost every night. When everyone thinks this playboy will never change his ways and settle down that’s when he heart is captured by the beautiful Raven. Raven and Luca have known each other all their lives and she has harbored a crush on him for a long time, but with their age difference its always just seemed like a dream. On a night where Luca is drowning in his misery of an accident that could take his career away he hears the most beautiful noise and that leads him to a now grownup Raven. She is smart and wise beyond her years so Luca is taken back with how amazing she is and their conversations flow so seamlessly, he’s instantly captivated. Falling deeper for each other the more time together they spend they both know no one else would ever compare and that they’ve found the real deal. The love they feel is genuine, sweet, happens fast, yet they both have goals for their own futures and that can cause a serious rift. Years later they find themselves together again can Luca show Raven everything he done was for her? Will Raven ever forgive him and let him back in or will she walk away never looking back? Luca has his work cut out for him to show her that his love never left and she was always his. This story is one of heartbreak, love, and so much more. Luca knew his love for Raven was the real deal, he knew though she needed to follow her dreams so she never resents him for not doing so, and his sacrifice shattered them both but it was done with such an incredible intent behind it you couldn’t stay mad at him for it. He knew what he wanted when it came time for her to come back in his life and he never wavered. I have to say that Luca with his hot nerd ways was my favorite in this story because he did so much for the love of his life and it made me love him even more. At times I wanted to shake Raven and I know she was broken from their breakup, but i think a lot of that pain came from her issues with her own mother passing, so she made me a little mad how much she put Luca through. This series and this family has been amazing. The strength and bond that they all have is such a beautiful thing and they definitely needed it in this story to help each other through. Luca and Raven’s love story wasn’t an easy one, but what great love isn’t? ( ps.my man Jasper was in this one too…yep fangirled over here ) “We loved for such a short time, but I already know I’ll never be able to fully wash him from my skin.”

The age-old question, is it right to do the wrong thing for the right reason, may never be answered, but it certainly doesn’t work out well for Luca Fritz. He’s at his family’s beach home, recuperating from a shoulder injury – an injury that may destroy his dream of becoming a neurosurgeon once he finishes his residency. Although he's not in a good frame of mind, he can’t help but notice the daughter of his family's head of security, someone he’s known most of her life, but who's all grown up now.

Raven Fairchild may be only eighteen, but her upbringing has made her wise beyond her years. She's too young for the well-known Fritz brother who wears his loose reputation like a badge of honor, but they both fall hard and fast in the weeks it takes Luca’s shoulder to heal. Raven has always dreamed of going to the London Conservatory to study music, but she’s willing to do whatever it takes to be with Luca. Except Luca loves her too much to let her toss her dreams aside.

Fast forward a few years, and Raven is back in Boston as the first chair cellist with the world-renowned symphony. Her broken heart may have healed, but the wall around it protecting her from ever being hurt again is impenetrable. And now that she's back home, Luca will stop at nothing to prove to Raven that they belong together.

What I thought would be a light, easy read managed to latch onto my heart and not let go, taking me on the very best of emotional rides from the first page to the last. Raven is an admirable, if stubborn as a mule, heroine, and Luca is a refreshing surprise as a presumable player, with depth and layers and a heart of gold.

I adore this series and love each new book more than last. The Abbott-Fritz family, when all their billions are stripped away, is one who loves with their whole heart, has an infinite supply of compassion and welcomes found family members with open arms. Charming, humorous, poignant and tender, this amazing romance is one of the best I’ve read this year. Grab your copy, start reading today – Luca and Raven's story will make your romantic heart blissfully happy and satisfied.

In ‘Doctor Playboy’ we read the story of Raven and Luca. Raven has been in love with Luca for a very long time, almost her whole life. But Luca is eleven years older, and has never looked at her like she is more than a kid. That is until Luca finds Raven playing her cello. He finds himself enchanted by the beautiful eighteen year old and determined to learn more about her. But he also knows they can never be.
Four years later Raven and Luca find themselves in the same city again. Luca is determined to make Raven his, and this time forever. But Raven isn’t interested, he broke her heart once and she will never let him hurt her again. But slowly Raven learns that Luca has done more for her than she can imagine.

After reading a little bit about Raven and Luca in the previous books, I couldn’t wait to finally read their story. (No worries, you can easily read every book in this series as a standalone, but I loved that I already read a tiny bit about these characters.) But nothing could have prepared me for the amazing chemistry between Luca and Raven. I mean wow!!

Raven and Luca have a very intense relationship, and their chemistry is definitely something you can feel coming of the pages. I loved reading their story. It’s not only romantic, but also heartbreaking and very intense. And I couldn’t get enough of these two. They are total opposites, and it definitely worked very well for them. Raven the talented young musician, Luca the playboy neurosurgeon who never really loved before. Amazing!

The best part of this read? It isn’t all sunshine and unicorns. This story felt real, because there were some real-life struggles between the two characters. And I loved that! It made for a great read, that could have easily been a real story.

Although I enjoyed the previous books, I think I loved this one even more. There just was something about Raven and Luca that really touched me and I couldn’t put their book down till I read every page. And I can’t wait for the next book about the older brother Kaplan. Sigh…

As most people are aware, I absolutely love this series. Each story is unique, each one has it’s own purpose, and each one makes me fall in love with the main characters. Which is absolutely the case with Doctor Playboy. Luca’s story blew me away. After getting snippets of him from the other books, I was anxious for his story. He melted my heart with his love for his family, and for his patients. But I always knew there was someone that he was pining over, but couldn’t figure out who. Until Raven, a young woman he has known all his life, comes walking back into it. He is dumbstruck with her beauty and her wit and her musical talent. But she is a bit younger than him. Would that make a difference to her? Raven is a breath of fresh air. She is the type of person that everyone would want to be friends with. She is caring, loving and has had a bit of a crush on Luca for a long time. Is it their time to be together? When one day a decision has to be made, whether right or wrong, it will irrevocably change their world. Can these two people who should be together forever, get thru it?

While I was reading, I could feel the lust, the intenseness of their feelings and the love just jump off the pages. When they were sad, I was sad. When they were happy, I was happy. Their chemistry is so sizzling I swear flames burst out of my kindle!! I rooted for them throughout because even with everything they go thru, they are destined to be with each other. But sometimes life doesn’t always go as planned, or does it? One of my favorite tropes is second chances and this one proved to me why. It’s brilliant!
