I hate the princes of Devil’s Creek.

Luca, Bastian, Marcello, and Damian.

For most of my life, no one wanted me… not until they needed me. Turns out I’m the lost heiress to a multi-billion dollar fortune and a pawn in their sick game.

They keep me locked in their seaside estate, completely at their mercy. All four of them are bullies, taking out their hatred for me in the form of punishments, each with their own reason for keeping me around.

I’m sick to want them.
It’s dangerous to need them.

I think I’m finding my place among these depraved monsters.

Except there’s one small problem.
They’re not the only men who want me.

There are far more dangerous men looking for the heir to the Wellington fortune… which means I’ll be staying in their beds and under their protection for the foreseeable future.

Cruel Princes is a DARK BULLY romance about four possessive men and one ruthless woman who will bring them to their knees. The main character will end up with more than one love interest.

No depth to anyone/ DNF

TW: Sexual Assault, Abuse, Body Betrayal. SPOILER WARNING. CLIFFHANGER WARNING.

I guess I’m in the minority but I just do not understand the 5 star reviews. Someone has to say this because OOF. If you’re into the “I don’t want this but my body does”, all protagonists having cardboard personalities, and the weirdest mix of mafia/secret society storyline, I guess this book/series is for you.

It takes a lot for me to DNF a book so quickly, but this book succeeded spectacularly. The authors writing leaves a lot to be desired. No prologue (which is sorely needed)to this book, you’re just thrown in and with no intro to any character and no set up. This jumps all over the place with no transition from high school to adulthood (the first chapter is in HS and then fast forward, with no warning to after college) and Alex is one of the most annoying heroines I have ever read. The antiheroes (Marcello “sweet one”, Damien “psychotic one”, Luca “rager/physical one” and Bastian “kinky one”) are all so forgettable and blend in with one another that I honestly didn’t care which guy was which and are either complete psychos or cliches along with being over the top obsessively sexual with the heroine. There’s no depth to any of the characters and the fact that two of the male protagonists sexually assaulted the heroine but her body betrayed her and she liked it has me feeling extremely irritated. I wanted to like this, in fact was ready to like it because the description caught my eye and this was featured in Booktok (book tik tok). It’s been a long time since I was dissatisfied with a book this much. The book covers pretty though. *shrug*

Spicy Level 🌶️🌶️🌶️/5

What the fuck was this?

I know I shouldn't compare books, it's terrible to do and not fair to the authors, however all that I kept thinking is this must be some fan fiction for the "Devil's Night" series mixed with Losers... It tried so hard to be "hardcore" and fell flat.

The book follows Alex, this Founding Father princess who has been promised to the Salvatore Brothers to cement their place in the Rich Underworld of Society. The only thing is the brothers like to share and Alex doesn't mind that part at all...What she does mind is them kidnapping her and keeping her hostage in their mansion...

Alex was an amalgamation of multiple FMC personalities mixed into one but also so bland that she has NO personality...that I have no fucking clue who she is. She battles this "trauma" and while she has this fear of the dark and night terrors, this isn't actually explored, so you are just told she's messed up and meant to believe it.

The boys can be summed up into:
Luca - The grumpy alphahole who hates her, calls her Drea
Bastian - The playful kinky one, calls her Cherry cause he wants to pop it....
Marcello - The SIMP, actually uses her name
Damian - The psychopath, calls her pet.

All of them turn her on instantly by being forceful with her and making her dripping wet by just being near her...THE entire time I kept reading this I kept thinking how the hell did Alex maintain her hymen with all the rough fingering these boys kept doing to her... AND WHY when they have all had MULTIPLE fingers in her did sex the first time hurt? ALSO WHY is she as skilled as a porn star with sex and so comfortable with it, WHEN SHE IS A VIRGIN? - These are never explained.

Actually, a lot is never explained... we have a few breadcrumbs of information and a sprinkling of things that could be called a plot I guess, but overall everything felt so weak and surface level and annoying.

The tropes were also soupy - and while I love me some trope soup, it felt like these were just thrown in hoping something would stick to the walls like spaghetti....
▶ Multiple POV
▶ Virgin FMC
▶ Possessive, Obsessive and Dominating MMC's
▶ Captive/Captor
▶ Reverse Harem
▶ Billionaire Romance
▶ Mafia Vibes
▶ Touch her you die

Overall I might have to be held down forcefully to continue the series...and...I won't like it in this instance...

What a rush!

Alexandrea Wellington, a pedigree of most prominent founding family within an elite secret society, is pledged to marry a member of the Salvatore family for promises made and dues owed. The Salvatores, however, are a cold and callous lot with some crazy thrown in. The plot line is initially fast, immediately captivating, then progresses in a smooth and engaging unfolding at a medium burn.

Alex, or Drea, is both confident but vulnerable; she suffered a traumatic past at the hands of an abusive mother, PTSD which affects her present interactions. I loved this heroine, who, with a softness, is damaged, but striving to be strong. She and her twin brother Aiden now live with her prosperous grandfather, Pops.

Luca, whose rage is always barely contained and thrives in chaos, serves as the head of the family business, but … he hates Alex. A toxic push and pull, he treats her both disdainfully yet sensually.

Luca Salvatore was like a dirty dream wrapped in an expensive suit, dipped in nightmares, and sugar-coated with sex appeal.
- Alex

Broody and controlled brother Marcello demonstrates restrained affection and acts as silent protector.

Alex made me feel alive. Made me feel out of control. She brought chaos to my life. Years of wanting to fuck her had turned me into a fucking animal.
- Marcello

Adopted brothers Bastian and Damian oscillate warmth and lustfulness darkly flavored with some extreme of psycho. Think vampire.

Collectively the guys are alluring, and as a group, a mix of emotional brokenness and artistry of underlying darkness.

But a deal has been cast.

A number of side characters of varying ages also contribute to complexity of this mafia, secret society tale — fathers like “elders” and partners like soldiers. Everyone has something hidden, some dark motive.

The character development was amazing — growth, dynamics, building relationships, strengthening the plot line. Characters are rendered with distinguishable and unique personalities. From their dialogue and behaviors — their voice — it is always clear and recognizable which antihero’s point of view is being portrayed. And so appealing, in fact, I often found myself favoring one only to shift to another. Characters were imperfect and largely relatable.

While this book can be categorized as a bully romance, it reads more romantic thriller, enemies to lovers, as any bullying happens “off screen” earlier in the story. Yes, the guys are bad, but dark elements are not gratuitous. The balance weighs in favor of character dynamics and story mystery underpinned with a healthy dose of sexual magnetism, sexual overture. I did not find the story dark.

The sexual tension is electric, even within the animosity the antiheroes wanted, but in the midst of their attraction, often failed to express. While there is major heat and fun kink of the foreplay variety — great build up, sure — it only teased my appetite for high spice that wasn’t realized. My hope is that future books in this series are explosive. Still, do note, which I think will be this book’s calling card, scenes: breakfast and The Mansion — absolutely, delectably, sinfully hot!

While there is a bit a repetitiveness that an editor might have pointed out, always the same — description of clothing (Brioni suit, wingtips), hair pulling, repeating of the same words and phrases — sometimes distracting, I chose to overlook them for the strength of the story. Also, there is a question of cohesivenesses related to watching the heroine over time. The beginning left me a bit baffled as it was fast with little background until the story progresses.

Overall, this reverse harem romance with a gothic vibe, moments of “Some Skull and Bones meets Harry Potter shit” was absolutely what I was looking for — creative and unique plot — I’ve read nothing like it —, panty-drenching heat, alluring characters and hot antiheroes — and I don’t have to choose. So good! And that cliffhanger…. I can’t wait until book 2.

This book, absolutely was not it:
'To all the fuck boys and losers I dated in high school and college. You weren’t boyfriend material, but you made me realize it takes more than one man to satisfy a woman.'

It's been a while since I've read anything this painful, but anyways:

🤡✌️wtaf was this.

similar to the name ‘the cruel prince’ it is in fact NOTHING like the absolutely AMAZING book
first of all fetishising sexual assault has to stop because it’s mainly like the guys forcing themselves on her and when she clearly tells them to stop they’re blatantly like “no”
i think they need to learn that:
“liking it” ≠ consent
also they’re so awful to her and she’s like sold to them
OH AND i forgot to mention that there’s 4 guys and 1 girl
and they’re like brothers
it was really bad

2.5⭐️/3🌶

this book had me so confused right from the jump, i was just lost for a good portion of the book. i really hated this book up until a certain point but then it turned into a strong dislike by the end of it. i was honestly teetering between 2/3⭐️.

the story opens in the prologue with the fmc Alexandrea (Alex/Drea) attending this prep school after being “rescued” from her abusive mother by her grandfather. but it turns out that she’s promised to the Salvatore brothers (Luca, Marcello, Damien, Bastien) who make her life hell, so she basically was ripped from one hell hole to another. the story time jumps 5 years to the Salvatore’s coming to collect what’s theirs and that’s Alex. the Salvatore’s are a part of this secret society of men who need Alex to claim the head of this society (so i guess kind of think the ritual by shantel tessier - in a way). this is where it kind of gets confusing in my eyes…

she is said that she has to marry one of the brothers and she would have to choose by the end of the summer (?) but then she doesn’t actually get a choice because only one of the brothers (Luca) is technically an option because he needs to marry her to become the head of the society…? but then in turn all of the brothers are saying “she’s not just yours, she’s ours”. and Luca kept saying he was the only one that was gonna “claim” her (bcos obvi she’s still a V) but in the end he’s not the one to pop her 🍒 so that just had me questioning which one was it?? this was all very confusing.

this was very much a story where the fmc is like “i hate you but my body wants you and i hate myself for how much my body wants you” and THAT for annoying real fast (so if you like that kind of thing…this is for you). they’re all supposed to hate each other but like they don’t, which i suppose the only that really does is Luca, which is ironic because if he’s the one that she has to marry he’s not doing a great job of trying to make himself seem like a good option…

the book is dual POV but the POVs are mainly in Alex’s POV. there are 43 chapters, 30 of which are Alex’s POV, 3 are in Marcello’s, 8 are in Luca’s, and Bastien and Damon both get 1 a piece. i definitely wish there was more of a balance because Alex is…mmmm…not the most likable character out there 🫢😅.

i skimmed a lot of this book at points because i just grew tired of the story and wanted it to end. and by the end i was laughing but there was nothing funny, i think that just goes to show how i lost my marbles by the end of this one…and of course it leaves off on a CLIFFHANGER…idk i kinda wanna see what happens unfortunately…

Cruel Princes is the first book within the Princes of Devil's Creek series. In it, you will meet Alex and her twin brother Aiden. As well as the princes of devil's creek - Luca, Bastian, Marcello, and Damian.

Now when they first met, things don't start off right between them all. Alex and Aiden were basically saved from their horrible living arrangement with their parents by their grandfather. Then they are thrown into this new world knowing two things: Alex is to marry a Salvator, and Aiden is to become a knight. Neither sound like an amazing opportunity for these twins but at least they are safely away from their horrible parents.

The romance that brews between her and the guys is definitely enemies to lovers. Yet, we don't really know why they hate her so much. Mostly because they also seemed to sort of love her at the same time. So, yeah, things get confusing romance wise for most of this book. I totally and completely fell for all the push and pulls because the sexual tension was so freaking strong.

Before I knew it, the book was over, and I was already downloading the sequel. I honestly have so many questions and just want the guys to get their shit together. Stop having all these secrets with her and just talk about everything. It's clear that they all love one another so just accept the harem life.

This book immediately gave me Den of Vipers vibes. I did this as a buddy read and we compared the two through out the entire book. It was a good time. I was so happy that the fmc was likeable and not super annoying. Her banter and dirty talk could definitely use some work though.

If you're going into this book expecting a ton of descriptive sex you will be a bit disappointed. I'm hoping the smut gets better throughout the series.

The story was a little confusing. I felt like I was thrown into something with little explanation. I wish there were more flashbacks to how the mcs we're in high school together. It's referenced here and there throughout the book but I wanted more. I really wanted more the entire book. I still am a bit confused about the whole "we need a queen" thing. Hopefully the second book will explain it a little better.

Just to be clear, I READ THIS BOOK FOR THE GUYS and I was not disappointed. I adored them. They each had something different to bring to the table. Psycho, kinky, possessive, and sweet. The story kept me entertained. I flew through this book and I anticipate flying through the next one. I had fun with this.

It’s definitely not great in terms of being well written but it was a great escape that totally pulled me in. No part of this narrative is even remotely believable, it’s like a bully romance on steroids, these men have no depth- billionaire boys club in a secret society cult kinda thing, Alex- our heroine needs intense therapy… but I couldn’t put it down. It was one of those I know this is bad, but I like it anyway because I need to be so far removed from reality right now kinda read. Check the triggers there is a lot of abuse that happens- a lot of Non Consensual interactions.

I just couldn't....
There was nothing relatable, realistic or likable about the characters. The writing was a failed attempt at dark and angst. I found myself annoyingly scrolling forward until I just didn't even want to read it.

Okkkkkkk… so this was a bit confusing lol. I have read another author named Jillian 'Quinn' and she has the same books. Like the titles and covers are different but the story is somewhat the same with a lot of common scenes and character names . Also since the first name of this author is Jillian as well, I think she is rewriting the books again although I don't know why she is doing that..

Since I have read the Other books already, this one was a weird experience for me. I liked the other series so yeah this one was also good. The characters and the chemistry between them felt a bit flat for me but it was good nonetheless.

Although I hope we get answers about the stories being same and all because that will keep bugging me otherwise 🤣I don't mean to accuse anyone of piracy, in fact by the same names, I am very sure that it's the same author rewriting her series.

Booktok has yet again let me tf down.

DNF. I think this is the quickest DNF I've ever had, and I hardly ever DNF (bc even if I hate a book I feel the need to give it a full read to fairly review) but at only 17 pages in, there is already so much wrong that I feel stupid trying to talk myself into reading the next 405 pages to be able to say I read it.

I'm not even going to say these are spoilers, because hell, it's only five percent in.

First off, the 'prologue' didn't even feel like a prologue. There was no transition or explanation of anything really (besides a brief mention of her grandfather sending her there to that high school because she is getting married to one of the mmc's), it felt like there were a couple chapters missing with the way it started. On page three, after the mmc's have just met and have been talking to the fmc in the school cafeteria (because it starts out in high school) for all of two minutes, they are calling her a whore and pet, saying things like, "Eat something, I'm not fucking a twig.", and forcing her to her knees. Then, they leave her on the ground and walk away, one of them grabbing another girl and feeling her up on the way out of the cafeteria. And she says she feels jealous? Girl, what? After that, two of the guys corner her in the hall, with students around, and one of them sticks his hand up her skirt and then makes her suck his fingers...and she does...hello? In the middle of the high school hallway? Everyone watching? So, less than ten pages in and they are already forcing themselves on her, calling her names, and relaying all the sexual favors she will give them if ordered to. Charming. (Yes, I know this is a bully romance, but c'mon. There's bully, and then there's just cringey, assaultive, alpha-hole behavior.) Prologue ends pretty much right after that, and suddenly skips forward five years and she hasn't seen them in that time because they were allowing her to attend art school. But, of course, after her brief inner dialogue explaining that, all of a sudden they are in her apartment, and plan on taking her with them. Why did they even let her go to school? That just doesn't make sense. But, so far, none of it does. Anyways, two seconds after finding them in her apartment, she is being called a whore for wearing a skirt, and being spanked. I can't.

Secondly, the writing is just not good. Whether it's the dialogue, the explanation of what's going on, or anything in between.

Thirdly, and I don't think it'll be that big of a shocker, but the characters are already thoroughly getting on my nerves. All of them.

I skimmed another 20% and nothing improved, just got worse in my opinion, so I will be DNFing this read indefinitely. I tried to spoil the book for myself by reading other reviews, and it seems like it's just not going to be worth my time and I'll be left annoyed if I force myself to read the rest of it.

Not having read any other books by Jillian Frost before, I didn’t know what to expect before reading Cruel Princes. Needless to say, the intriguing synopsis and eye-catching cover drew me in right away. The story begins by introducing Alexandrea Wellington whose life has been changed once again after her grandfather takes her and her brother into his care. He has been able to give them opportunities to start a new life at a price and Alex is not ready to give up her freedom all to marry a Salvatore. She grew up feeling tormented and now the four Salvatore brothers are ready to make her life miserable until the time comes when she has to pick a brother to marry. It would take years later for them to see each other again and this time there is no going back. What surprises Alex the most is to feel attracted to all four Salvatore brothers no matter how cruel they can be. As the only female of marrying age from The Founding Society, she needs to marry a Salvatore, those who are in charge of the Knights in order to ensure their family legacy. With time running out, it’s critical for Alex to accept her destiny until secrets start to resurface and feelings start to grow for those that she didn’t think possible.

I very much liked the overall concept of the story, although it was a bit confusing at the beginning, the story quickly had me hooked. We have Alexandrea “Alex” trying to accept her destiny by getting to know the Salvatore brothers and realizes that they might just have a lot more in common than she thought. It’s evident that all the brothers have a lot to gain by marrying Alex, but it’s only two that need it the most. The Salvatore name carries a lot of power in Devil’s Creek and it’s through their different POVs that we get to understand each of the bothers and their motives. As Alex gets to know them, their chemistry grows and it just keeps getting steamier. There is still a lot that we don’t know and that’s exactly how the book ends, with a cliffhanger leaving you wanting for more. There is so much that happens in this first book as we get familiar with their world and I cannot wait to read what happens next. I would highly recommend it if you love dark romances with a twist. :)

SHORT AND SWEET REVIEW

Cruel Princes was an okay read. This was a promising start to a dark romance series.

If you don't know, I love secret societies in books. Cruel Princes has that. My gripe is that it didn't have enough. I wanted to learn more about this secret society. I'm guessing we'll learn more about them on the next books.

The characters were okay. None of them really stood out for me. I feel like this book would have been better if it was a dual timeline narrative. I feel like by not having a dual time line, the relationship between the characters has not been solidified properly for me.

The plot moved a bit slower than what I prefer. You will be able to tell that the events on this book will be a catalyst to what the rest of the books in the series will be like. There wasn't much substance on the first book unfortunately.

FINAL THOUGHTS & RATING:

Overall, I did enjoy reading Cruel Princes. It wasn't my favorite but it was good. The mystery about this secret society and their families is still intriguing me. Could potentially read the next ones.

DNF……

One page in and I already knew this wasn’t for me.

I don’t think abuse is sexy, cute, a turn on or whatever else some people might call this.

It’s gross.

Plain and simple.

Now if she had the mental capacity to say hey they LOOK hot/attractive but what they are doing to me isn’t in the slightest ok. And because of that I’m now grossed out by them.

She should have rejoiced when one of them at the beginning (I don’t even know or care to learn their names) grabs the busty blonde girls butt, she should have said better her than me. But no. She gets jealous.

Wtf.

I had to laugh because sometimes I feel like smut is written by men. What woman would think this?

Okay, after stalking Jillian Frost on tiktok I was pretty damn stoked to be chosen for an ARC of Cruel Princes. Lemme say, I had high expectations for this book and it completely blew them out of the water.

So. Damn. Good.

I was a little skeptical about the jump of time in the beginning but okay ma’am 👏🏼 I both hate and love the Salvatore brothers equally.. okay that’s not true. Ya know I got a fave 😉

For real tho, the writing, the characters, the plot, the sexual tension… PHEW! Amazing! I’m loving the secret society aspect + mafia boss vibes. I also love seeing the artistic side of Alex along with her struggle with PTSD.

“My Queen D, I won’t let anyone take what’s mine.”

While I guessed the cliffhanger easily, I was shocked with the confession right before and I am super excited to see how we pick up in book 2!

Pretty bleh honestly.

There was no plot, the characters had no personality, the flow of the story was skewed.

I don't think there was anything reedeeming about anyone? Or anything?

If Alex likes Aiden so much, was isn't he with her? Why is he MIA? Marcello asks her what she wants the most and instead of saying her brother she's like: I want my freedom??? YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO LOVE HIM AND WANT TO KEEP HiM SAFE BUT YOU'RE FAILING MISERABLY AT BOTH!!!!

And bro, it is established that you ain't gonna get it, what is the point? There is no fire to ANYTHING.

And Damian? Damien? Whatever. He keeps getting called demented. Why? Why is he psychotic? What did he do?

What is EVERYONE's history?? What is the character development? The plot???

Honestly, the only thing you get after reading this are headaches and questions with no answers. Nothing else.
