I hesitate to give what would be considered a bad review for an author I like. However, I feel this review may be helpful to others like me. I read to escape and to be entertained. This book has so much darkness, awful things, in it, that I could not finish it. If I want darkness, all I have to do is watch the news. So for me, this book was not something I will ever read. I know others love it.

"It wasn't Addie Franklin's choice to meet with a killer. The coffee shop had more than enough empty seats."

Great first lines! However, what's written between them is that Addie's life was changed forever by a previous harrowing experience with a demented psychopath. At present, she's a highly trained F. B. I. profiler, but back then she was an innocent teen who escaped within an inch of her life, along with two others, plus one who wasn't so fortunate.

Curiously, after successfully wrapping up her current case (yes, did she did veer outside the lines a bit, but . . . . ) Addie is sent back (or in her words, "exiled") to where it all began; Benson, Washington. When it appears that specters from the past have followed her there in a twisted sort of way, Addie relishes ( or tries to, but pushes back against) a re-connection with Jacob Wilson, her "once-in-a-lifetime", so to speak. As dark suspicions then begin to hover around Jacob, Addie makes the decision to plunge head first into her past, making her pile of cold cases . . . . red hot!

If you can appreciate a bit of "grisly", this story explores how differently people respond to trauma and how important the faith factor is, if there is ever going to be any hope of genuine restoration.

Maybe I’m not the audience for this but it was… interesting. Seemed kinda drawn out but I was glad to find out what happened. I didn’t expect the ending, I liked when all the pieces were put together! I didn’t… really feel any kind of connection with Addie but I liked Jake.
Not my favorite but not the worst thing I’ve read either.
I don’t remember any language? There was violence and trauma/traumatic events

Pain and Purpose

Addie and Jacob shared a terrifying past with classmate Hank. 15 years later their lives intertwine to bring closure to a series of murders. Addie has become an FBI profiler, Jacob has found success as an author and photographer and Hank as a police detective. As the story unfolds their purposes and futures become clear.

Point of Impact delves in to the defining moment in the lives of FBI Special Agent Addie Franklin and her high school boyfriend turned professional photographer and story teller, Jacob.
When Addie is sent back home to Benson from Washington DC she is lost, frustrated, and burnt out. When she literally collides with Jacob again she wonders if they ended things too quickly 15 years before.
Addie is an expert profiler for the FBI and she is put to the test when her emotions and her profiling skills are challenged from the moment she steps foot back "home.
Lisa Phillips does a great job layering the suspense of this story with the memories of the past. The past everyone has in common but no one wants to talk about. I was excited to see her talent grow in the creation of this novel. It flowed well. And I read it quickly (which is unusual for me).

Point of Impact is the first novel in this new series. Lisa Phillips did a wonderful job crafting Addie and Jacob's story that includes danger, suspense, intrigue, and a serial killer. I kept on turning the pages, wanting to discover who the villain is. What a shocking twist it was to discover who the villain is.
I enjoyed getting to know the characters in this story and how Addie's uncle gave her and her younger sister a home when they needed one. I can't wait to read the next book in this series and the next one after that.
I was given an ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This was an awesome book. I enjoyed all three books in the series that are out so far, but this one was by far the best with the premise, plot, and characters

After being kidnapped and tortured as teens, Jacob and Addie went their separate ways. He became a recluse and she became an FBI agent on the other side of the country. Now, strings have been pulled and Addie has been reassigned to the place where it all started and where it seems to he starting again.

Some of the initial threatening gestures towards Addie didn't really seem to flow with the story. When it did start to flow, it was easy to figure out who the culprit was. I was glad to see him get caught in the end.

This last comment applies more to many inspirational suspense books rather than just this one. However, it would be nice for the couple to have a working relationship instead of already knowing each other. In this case Addie and Jacob haven't seen each other in 15 years, but their old flame is still burning? It would have been equally awkward if they were strangers and had to discover their love in such a short time period.

It must be difficult to balance the timing of suspense with the timing of developing romantic feelings.

Point of Impact; Last Chance Downrange, Book 1
Good, clean book. Fast and easy read/listen. It got predictable, I mean, if I figured out who the killer then, those of you that read crime fiction all of the time, should figure it out quicker than I did. It is still a good book and worth it; I am bummed that this is book 1 in a series and I don’t know if or when the other books will be coming out.
Addie left her home town after high school and became an FBI profiler because of what happened to her and three of her friends while they were still only teens; the four of them were kidnapped and tortured and one ended up getting killed before they escaped. The local police caught and imprisoned the kidnapper/murderer but then, why after 15 years multiple killings are happening again in Addie’s hometown that have all of the same markers as when Addie and her friends were abducted; they know that the right man is in prison but are the police now looking for a copy cat or have there always been two?

Suspenseful and intense

This is a wonderful beginning for the Last Chance Downrange series. Addie and Jacob along with Hank and Becca were kidnapped the night of their High School Prom then tormented by a serial killer until the FBI rescued them days later. Only three of them came out alive. Fifteen years later they are all leading very different lives. Jacob is a professional photographer while Addie and Hank went into law enforcement, Hank a detective and Addie with the FBI. After years away from the town where her terror occurred, Addie is transferred to the FBI field office in that town when another serial killer seems to be kidnapping and killing young people. When she arrives even stranger things begin happening with them seeming to focus on the survivors. Will Addie and the FBI be able to solve the case before any else dies?

The past is never forgotten

The past is always there. Addie, Jake & Hank were the only three that survived the killer. And that shaped their lives. Addie became a FBI agent, Hank a cop and Jake a writer/ photographer. Now Addie is back home trying to solve a case and she is happy that she has seen Jake. But they have both changed yet the feelings are all still there. Can they really have a second chance?
The killer is after Addie and they will stop at nothing to get what they want. But what does the past have to do with anything?
A good read. Who knows what happens to a person during a traumatic time? Addie is a strong woman that has overcome many painful events to be who she is today. Jake seems lost he is a really good guy that just wants to see the best in people.

No words!!!

How in the world does she come up with these stories? This was such a different storyline with an old plot that takes your breath away. So refreshing to have Addie and Jacob restored to their first love without denying it. The way each person chose to deal with their trauma says so much about the choices we make as human. I enjoyed this story because I couldn't put it down, but also because I didn't want it to end. I wanted a sequel so that Jacob could finish telling his stories. I want to know more about Russ and Mona and Police Chief McCauley and the Stella and her partner. She hooked me. She should write volumes about Benson.

Beautiful new series!

I so enjoy Ms Phillips' books, they are ALWAYS great reads.
This new series ties in to a previous series, but I won't tell when or how.
This is full of twists and turns with characters that can reach in and grab your heart. This, like Ms Phillips other books, aren't like the usual romantic suspense stories but has a particular pathos with characters that are already wrapped in their own pain but you really are hoping for their healing while finding an unusual serial killer.
You'll just have to read it for yourself, I promise you'll be pulled right in from the first page.

Kept me reading

Interesting plot that kept my attention. Like most of these stories, the bad guy was obvious early on in the book. The author’s writing is a bit difficult to understand sometimes. But, I skipped those strange paragraphs and moved on. My main issue with the book was it seemed like Addie’s personality changed very quickly and with no explanation from being a loner who wouldn’t hardly speak with co-workers to more of a leader who communicated well. But, oh well. Still a good read!

it will keep you up at night

As I was listening to the audible book, I would become impatient and begin reading ahead, because I just wanted to know what was going to happen. And of course, when you get to the end of the chapter, you want to know what’s coming next. The author did an excellent job, keeping me on the edge of my seat, eager to anticipate what might happen next. Looking forward to the rest of the books in the series. Lisa Phillips has become one of my favorite authors.

While this story had a good plot, it was hard at times to follow the events of the story because it seemed as though you were only getting every other thought or sentence of conversation that the characters were thinking or speaking. It felt as though lots of background and details were being skipped over. I also thought the intensity of Addie & Jacob’s feelings for one another was quite a leap considering how many years they’d been apart without our contact and after such a traumatic experience.

A new series. Not connected to the last series, like I was hoping, but there was an awesome Easter egg. This Christian romantic suspense kept me engaged the entire time. A second chance romance for our FBI agent heroine and our photographer hero. Coming back home, after being gone for a decade and a half, our heroine steps back into reminders of their shared trauma. With murders and attacks happening, there is a race to locate the killer. I did guess the ending, much to my chagrin. 4.5 stars rounded up to 5.

I read this quite a while ago and, for some strange reason, I can’t find my review from back then. I think some of my reviews are disappearing from this site the same way they disappeared from Amazon, which is distressing as this is how I keep track of the books I’ve read over the years. I didn’t reread this book all over again so I’m not rating it now. I started to reread this as part of an anthology. It’s a bit disturbing for me so I didn’t read it all the way through again but it was very familiar. It seems to be part of a series which I won’t be pursuing.

Okay. Where to start? Alright, this book is amazing! Lisa Phillips had so many twists in this murder mystery that I was hooked from the start. Special Agent Adelyn Franklin is struggling to figure out her life after a tragic event in her past. Her former boyfriend Jacob Wilson has found his way to cope with things, but the world around him seems to be against him. When Addie and Jacob are thrown together during her investigation, things don’t go as expected. It takes a lot of blood, sweat, and tears before they get their HEA. Highly recommend this book!

Point of Impact

Oh, my goodness! I seriously had issues putting this down for a minute! Is always hard dealing with trauma induced responses, but the author presented it skillfully. An FBI special agent profiler is sent back to her home town to investigate a killing spree. She thought she had left that place for good. Are the killings random or somehow tied together? Will she figure out who the killer is and end his spree? Definitely a must-read!

great, fast read!

Another great book from Lisa Phillips! This one takes a different turn, so if you have read some of her other books, be aware that this one is more CSI than the others.

Could you go back to the scene of a crime where you were the victim? Even if you were FBI now.....What if someone wanted you back there?

Follow Addie in her life as an FBI profiler who is trying to keep the past in the past, but it just keeps rearing its ugly head.

All I can say is, Wow. This book pulls you in from the very beginning, and the action never stops. The are so many twists and turns that you don't see the end coming. What a fantastic start to a new series. If you like suspense, this is definitely a book you want to read. I highly recommend Lisa's newest story.

Last Chance continues again!

It’s so sad when a series that you enjoy ends… I love it when the next series spins off, especially when that keeps happening! More awesome characters, and some old friends, a new town, and possible visits to familiar locations, AND more incredible adventures, as well as mysteries to solve. I’m happy!

The story was gripping, the writing superb. I love that it is free from profanity and unnecessary gore while being cleverly written, with well-developed characters, right amount of dialogue and story flow, and being a suspenseful thriller without being two dimensional. I'm glad I got to try this book and author out for free and am looking forward to reading more.

Anywhere but home!

After an FBI sting goes bad, Addie is told she's been relocated to her hometown, to her dismay. Her life there had ended after a murderer abducted her the night of her senior prom. Still suffering from the experience, she never wanted to go back!
A fast paced thriller I highly recommend.

Intriguing story

Great characters that you want to get to know.
Overcoming a dark past, can destroy you or strength you. The players in this book have some major struggling to bring this from evil. And to figure it evil is the is gay and who is the bad guy.
I love books that don't rely on bad language it excessive violence.

This is the most different mystery that I have read. I so much loved it. Going back to a town where as a teenager you & a friend were kidnapped & suffered horrible things until they got away. Now they are experiencing some of the same horrors & realize the man in prison may have had an accomplice or there is a copycat killer. If you love mysteries, you have to read this one.

I really enjoyed this book and it's actions and characters. It was a clean read but it was slow in some areas.I pushed myself to read the whole book and it got better towards the end. I would recommend it to anyone who loves Christian thrillers.
