Bill Johnson and his wife Brenda (Beni) Johnson are the Senior Pastors of Bethel Church in Redding, California. Johnson is a fifth generation pastor.

Johnson was born in Minnesota in 1951 and became a Christian as a young child. Soon after, Johnson read seven books on prayer, which significantly affected his perspective and subsequent ministry.

Bill Johnson and his wife have three children: Eric, Brian and Leah.

Johnson speaking at a conference
Bill Johnson and Beni (Brenda) began as singles pastors under his father at Bethel. In 1979, they became senior pastors of Mountain Chapel in Weaverville, California.

While pastoring in Weaverville, Johnson attended a 1987 conference led by John Wimber, founder of the Vineyard Church Movement. According to Johnson "A number of healings and manifestations broke out and I didn't know what to do with it. I didn't object to it, I wasn't opposed to it; I just didn't know how to pastor it in a way that it would continue and increase".

In 1995, Johnson attended the Toronto Blessing revival at the Toronto Airport Vineyard church. Johnson relates: "In Toronto I said, 'Lord, if You touch me again I will never change the subject.' So I went up for prayer every time it was offered. I didn't have anything dramatic happen, but I came home and said, 'I am going to give the rest of my life to this.'"

In February 1996, after 17 years of leading the Weaverville church, the Johnsons were invited to become senior pastors of Bethel. Today Johnson describes Bethel as a church where "everything we do either fuels revival or is fueled by revival." Under his leadership, Bethel left the Assemblies of God in 2006 to become a nondenominational charismatic church.

According to a recent book written by Johnson, "Face to Face with God", Bethel is "a church where supernatural encounters with God happen regularly, miracles are common, and the congregation has an infectious passion for spiritual growth." The church has approximately 1,500 members, and a School of Supernatural Ministry.

Their Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry has 1,200 students enrolled with over 370 from other countries. Johnson leads a network of churches dedicated to global, multi-generational revival, Global Legacy. Johnson has written a number of books and travels extensively as a featured revival conference speaker. Johnson is also involved with the Northern California Revival Fellowship, a group of north Californian pastors committed to revival.

What a challange! The main themes were (1)keep the testimony. (2)Don't build a case against God. (3)And I am called to release heaven on earth.
For me this book was hard because I agreed with what was said, but I haven't been living from this perspective! The kind of book that all believers would be challanged by.

Release the Power of Jesus by Bill Johnson is a spiritual guide that encourages Christians to step into a deeper relationship with Jesus through faith and the manifestation of the Holy Spirit. The author is a well-known pastor and emphasizes that every believer has access to the supernatural power of God—not just for personal transformation, but to impact the world around them. It is a lot to wrap your head around. The book draws on biblical teachings, testimonies, and Johnson’s own experiences to show how faith, obedience, and a close relationship with Jesus can result in healing, miracles, and breakthroughs.

A main theme of the book is the importance of aligning one’s thoughts with the truth of Scripture. Johnson teaches that many Christians live below their spiritual potential because they allow fear, doubt, and tradition to limit their expectations. By embracing and knowing the truth of the Bible and the presence of the Holy Spirit, we can gain an active faith. Johnson states that we can expect and experience the miraculous as a normal part of daily life.

Johnson also emphasizes the authority given to believers through Christ. He explains that Jesus not only saved humanity but also delegated His power to His followers so they could continue His works on earth. The book outlines practical ways to partner with the Holy Spirit, including worship, prayer, and prophetic ministry, to bring God’s kingdom into everyday situations. Testimonies of healing, deliverance, and personal transformation are used to inspire readers and encourage them to take bold steps of faith.

The book is a lot to process, but it does make sense. I found it inspirational but at the same time gave me a lot to chew on. I have other books by this author as well...he has much to offer.

This book has been a powerful reminder for me to seek the Truth behind what miracles are and the power of testimonies. I had initially bought this book in search of a faith-based book that has a Korean translation, in my hopes to read the Korean translation and practice Korean in line with my faith. I've received enough in the English translation to be encouraged, especially for my upcoming medical missions trip with Joyce Meyers ministry that is primarily led by Bethel church! As the day for the trip approaches, I have grown scared of witnessing some of the miraculous healings that are talked about in the Bible and in this book. I've never witnessed "big" miracles like those mentioned in the book, and I felt like that would disqualify me from seeing such or radically change how I view my faith that would draw me further away from God. However, the book has been God-given, for it has prepared my heart for what is to come. It provided concrete next steps for how to focus the meditations of my heart and mind on Him.

One of the best books I ever read!!

This book contains so many awesome truths and encourages you to live the life God wants you to live. We have to be the generation that speaks about the works of God because it multiplies what He has done over and over again. Bill Johnson helps you to understand how you can live with the reality of His presence in your life. I really needed to hear all of this!!!

Bill Johnson once again writes simply to get his point across yet takes you deeper as the words sink in. Testimony is a powerful message that we must grasp in our own lives to see it's affect on others lives! Bill Johnson did it again making me think how I need to keep testimony in front of me as I pursue God in my daily life. I recommend this book to anyone who desires to go deeper in their relationship with God. You won't be disappointed! :-)

One of the challenges that believers have is how to live life as Christ would have us. This book neatly explains that the author is not advocating that each of us is God but that we can emulate his nature. Yes, we have to repent and grow in our understanding of Him. I found this book challenging and rewarding because I learned about the pitfalls and narrow paths that we need to walk.

I read this during a week of prayer and fasting at my church. Whatever you might think of Bill Johnson, I find my faith increases as I consider the insights he shares in his books. This particular book addresses the power in recalling and recounting the works of God in our lives, which build faith for God to do even more.

Excellent look at keeping & sharing the testimony of Jesus: continually remembering and sharing all that He is and has done. Not a hard read, but definitely challenging. An encouragement to record what Jesus says and does in my life so it's not forgotten.

What an amazing book! Very simple language but a deep and challenging message! Keeping and declaring God's testimony will release His Kingdom here on earth; may we never forget what God has done so that we will see what He is doing now!
