Can my best friend get me to enjoy the holidays? Ho... Ho... Um…No?
Christmas just isn't my jam. The crowds. The cold. That Mariah Carey song blasting everywhere I go. Thanks, but no thanks.
Don't get me wrong. I'm no Grinch. The holidays are awesome if you have a great family and money to shower them with gifts. Unfortunately for me, I have neither of those things.
All I want for Christmas (great, now I'm quoting that damn Mariah song) is to focus on my internship at the Vet Shop Boys clinic and hanging out with my best friend and roommate.
Turns out Chester has got other ideas. Along with a crew of loved-up vets, he's on a mission to get me to enjoy the holidays and fall in love with him.
Wait… What?!
There's no way I'll ever become one of those festive people who likes Christmas, but who knows? Maybe this will be the first holiday season that actually gets me merry?
Got Me Merryis book 6 in the Vet Shop Boys series and can be read as a stand-alone. Expect plenty of humor, found family, best-friends-to-lovers, a grumpy Christmas Grinch, a sunshiny Christmas lover, some very wacky Christmas traditions, a sizzling hot fun run on a freezing winter day, a two-legged dog with a heart of gold, meddling vets determined to add a sprinkling of love to the holidays, and a heartwarming happily ever after!
Lawson and Chester are best friends since they started their studies to become veterinarians, they share a two-bedroom apartment, they run together every morning, they think the world of the other, and now… they both have an internship at the Vet Shop Boys clinic. Lawson is sweet but can be a bit grumpy, the complete opposite of Chester. Lawson hates Christmas time and all the fuss, and his father ruined it for him years ago. Noe he's on his own and that's just how he wants it. This year Chester is on a mission, to let Lawson enjoy Christmas, yes, enjoy it all! All the Vet Shop Boys are in on this mission, but that last part Lawson doesn’t know. Chester is the only one Lawson feels safe with since his family has no use for him. He finds that havening Chester near is soothing. Because of all their different work schedules at the Vet Shop Boys clinic, the whole of December is for holiday festivities, they open their houses on different days, so all colleagues will have a celebration. What all the employees already saw from the first moment they laid eyes on Lawson and Chester, took them a bit longer, all the feelings they have for each other. They are cute together, and their friendship is special, so they figure that a kiss here and there won’t destroy it, it’s nothing permanent. So, they keep it loose, just to see how it goes. Another wonderful story in this series. it's fun, emotional, has depth, and this one is quite a slow burn. Besides Chester and Lawson and their new relationship there is also the clinic, and all the other guys from this series. What a bunch! Overall, a consistently and wonderfully written story, when finished it gives you that "feel good all over" feeling.
4.25 stars. Lawson and Chester are best friends since they started their studies to become veterinarians, they share a two-bedroom apartment, they run together every morning, they think the world of the other, and now… have an internship at the Vet Shop Boys clinic.
Lawson is sweet but can be a bit grumpy, is a half-full-glass guy, the opposite of Chess. Lawson hates Christmas time, all that fuss, ugh, he’s always on his own, just how he wants it.
This year Chess is on a mission, to let Lawson enjoy Christmas, yes, enjoy! All the Vet Shop Boys are in on this mission, that last part Lawson doesn’t know. Chess is the only one Lawson feels safe with, he hasn’t been treated well in the past. The scars on his soul are still palpable. Chess is soothing.
They are cuuuute together, so cute. Their friendship is holy, a kiss here and there won’t destroy it, it’s nothing permanent, right? So they keep it a bit loose, and see how it goes, there are other matters in life. I wanted to yell “noooo just go for it”, as Tyler would say ‘one hun p’ Nope, when you got baggage like Lawson, of course, there are doubts and fears to overcome, and he’s doing already great, to be honest.
Another wonderful story from this series, fun, emotional, depth, this one is quite a slow slow-burn. The main characters are, in my experience, slightly developed, not that it matters. There are some nice characteristics to enjoy because there are some super duper sweet things they do! Besides Chester and Lawson their blooming relationship there’s the clinic, and of course, all the other guys from this series are here and have something to say ha! I love them so much, and hellooo Harmony, I love that woman! Overall a consistently and wonderfully written story, when finished it makes you feel good and satisfied!
This was another fun addition to the Vet Shop Boys series. I’ve enjoyed every book and I love that we get to see a lot of all the past couples in each book. This is 100% a Christmas book but was still fun to read in August!
Lawson and Chester are polar opposites but fit so well together. This is a best friends to lovers romance where they’ve been in love with each other forever and finally get together. It was really cute seeing the Vet Shop Boys family help them get together.
Once again there were many times I was laughing out loud while listening to this audio. Casey Cox does an amazing job at writing cute and funny stories without going too far to end up just being silly and annoying.
John Solo once again did an amazing job narrating. I absolutely recommend the audiobook and this entire series! Can’t wait to read the next one!
Overall Opinion This book was my first by this author and even though its part of a series, it can be read standalone. I did enjoy the book for the most part but probably won't reread it again. It was a very stereotypical Christmas book which if that is what you are looking for, this is for you! It was full of Christmas cheer and grumpy/sunshine characters. Lawson was the grumpy Grinch who I felt really sorry for with his past, and his best friend Chester is the all-round sunshiney sweet Christmas loving man attempting to convince Lawson that Christmas can be magical. It was a zero-angst, happy Christmasv book that will appeal to all the holiday lovers out there!

This was absolutely delightful. Like full-on swoony, and completely adorable.
Chester and Lawson are best friends, having met in Vet school, they’ve become inseparable. They are not only roommates but also the newest Interns at the Vet Shop Boys clinic.
They both feel completely at home there, and make quick friends with the other vets. So when they learn that Chester is on a mission to make his grumpy, Christmas-hating best friend see the beauty of the holiday, the others can’t resist joining in. And maybe Christmas won’t be the only thing he finds to love.
Chester is an adorably sunshiny marshmallow who always sees the best in things. He balances Lawson, grumpy and sarcastic, with good reasons to be a little bitter, but still lovely and kind. They are both super likeable and fit perfectly with the rest of the Vet Shop Boys.
This is a low-angst story, but it’s hella lovely and deliciously Christmassy. If grinning and swooning are your thing then you’ll really enjoy this novel. And with so many great cameos, it was a great reminder of all the wonderful guys we’ve met along the way. And there are some cruel teases to future stories that we are going to have to impatiently wait for.
Una bella storia romantica e natalizia, con gli stagisti/amici Chester e Lawson, insieme si sexy veterinari e compagni dei Vet Shop Boys. Scherzi, risate, cene, magia di Natale e tantissimo amore! 💖💖💖💖
Got Me Merry is an extremely sweet and low angst Christmas love story. It of course takes place in the same universe, but this time the MCs aren't vets, but students in Vet school who happen to be working as interns at Vet Shop Boys. Don't worry there's still plenty of time spent with the vet gang and all their hilarious antics. There may or may not even be speedos invovled at some point.
The major theme of the book is Chester's plan to make his grumpy best friend Lawson fall in love with Christmas. He just didn't expect his plan to have the added bonus of the two of them falling in love with each other along the way. Their romance was charming and quite lovely. If you're looking for an adorable holiday romance, then Casey Cox has you covered with Got Me Merry.
PS. Damn this author and their little hints at whats to come. Two new vets are making their way onto the scene and I am equally excited for both their stories! Damn tease!
This was a cute and fun holiday read. It is a goofy grinning kind of story. It’s everything you are looking for in a holiday romance–great characters, an easy, feel-good storyline, light humor, holiday cheer, goofy elements, and a HEA. That’s a long list, but they usually go hand and hand.
Chester and Lawson have a lot of chemistry but are both very oblivious to the fact that the other is feeling the same thing they are. I wanna say–communicate!–but this is one of those stories I just don’t mind it. I love the obliviousness in a holiday romance.
I own the series but haven’t had a chance to read it, but this caught my fancy and I knew it needed to be read for the holidays. I am now dying to go back and read the other stories. I enjoy this author’s storytelling and easy writing. Last, but not least, he used my absolute favorite word–gobsmacked! This book is going in my holiday AND gobsmacked collections of books.
This is a holiday must-read if you ask me.

Got Me Merry is the quintessential holiday grumpy/sunshine romance between two best friends who are ready to become more! The Vet Shop Boys are all on hand to give these two interns a push in the appropriate holiday spirit and to make sure that everyone is having a good time!
This book was a really sweet read with just enough steam. It can be read standalone, but I think you'll enjoy it more if you have read the previous books in the series and know the personalities of the side characters... plus, as is the case for the other Vet Shop boys, we get to meet an adorable animal who bonds with one of the boys and finds their forever home too!
If you're looking for a read to get you in the holiday spirit, I recommend picking up Got Me Merry!
This was another great book in the Vet Shop Boys series. As with all the others, this was a fantastic read. It can be read as a standalone, but I definitely recommend reading the entire series, as each book is amazing. I loved the hints as to who might get the next book, and I can't wait to read it. This group of vets and their partners are so much fun!
I needed a books to get out of the funk I've been in after reading too many so called good books. This boo can make you laugh and forget about whatever problems you may have. Everything in the blurb is true. Especially, the two elected dog. It bring some tears to your eyes.
Super sweet best friends to lovers holiday romance!
Chester and Lawson are best friends and roommates on their last year of vet school. Lawson hates the holidays season and all the festivities that comes with it. Chester loves it and wants to show Law that the holidays can be amazing and fun when you have the people that care about you around.
Their relationship is the cutest from the beginning. Lawson is a grumpy with everyone but he can’t help loosening up when it comes to Chester, who’s the only person Law has ever lowered his walls around. Chester’s sunshiny persona is very contagious tbh, so I get why Law can’t keep him away.
During the Operation Got Me Merry with the Vet Shop Boys’ crew, they plan a bunch of holiday parties/activities to get Lawson to fall in love with Christmas (and maybe also fall for his best friend? Who knows). I love how the VSB vets are like family and take Law and Chess in from the beginning. All that found family vibe is wonderful and I’m always here for it.
One of the things that I enjoyed the most about this book was the low angst (perfect for a holiday romance) and the open communication that is established along the way. All the love and support the MCs have for each other as well as how much they value their beautiful friendship was a delight to see. But don’t worry, there was still a lot of mutual pining going on.
The book is pretty predictable but I don’t think that’s a bad think at all. The only complaint that I have is the pointing out of “perfect” bodies with sculpted abs, as well as talks of exercising to burn excess calories from a night of overindulgence. I get why this comes up and it’s ok to say how good a person looks, but it’s still important to stop the idolisation of “perfect” body types in our dear romance books. The scenes are really good and funny, don’t get me wrong, I just think it’s important to point out that all body types should be appreciated.
I was wet-eyed and emotional reading parts of this book. Casey Cox has created a story that emotes love, anger, angst, and compassion that centers on two guys who became roommates, and then lovers.
This was my first time venturing into the popular Vet Shop Boys and I’m hooked. The writing is tight, contextual clues are welcomed and while we know MM Romances are to end with an MM relationship, this one is so fun to read but troubling in the back story of one of the main characters and joyful in the accepting and caring community that nurtured their relationship.
In summary, Lawson Barnes was an accident of his parents who divorced and neither wanted to care for him, each launching into new relationships and families. Christmas was the most difficult time with neither wanting him with their newly formed families. And so the Grinch mode was indelibly imprinted on Lawson with no fond memories of Christmas.
By contrast, his roommate Chester Matthews is a Christmas freak; loving the season, the workup, the decorating, and all things that mean fondness for family and season.
The two are veterinarians and come to intern at the weird name Vet Shop Boys clinic. The front office manager clocks the two main characters as having something special between them. But those feelings are locked away as each has reasons to deny themselves a chance at a relationship. Good friends, not lovers, but they seem more than good friends.
Vet Shop Boys is a haven for paired men who care about the animals they treat and the relationships they cherish. And there is a special action they take to help Chester make Lawson have the best Christmas ever and to accept the two as more than just friends.
The journey is awesome, some of the responses the team takes in the code-named Got Me Merry operation are both entertaining and enthralling. Obviously, the operation works as Lawson and Chester were throwing off signals they are more than roommates and as they take the next steps, we see them growing and see Lawson changing his mind about hating the Christmas season.
This book has an efficiency in telling this story. There are no tropes thrown at the boys to keep them from their destiny of being together, other than the constant in-their-heads types of conversations they have about whether they could be together.
It’s a charming, near fairytale book that is rooted in a real veterinary clinic which just happens to have a large supply of folks who want to help get these guys together. The book is truly a Happy Ever After that is not sugary, but rooted in real emotions that Casey Cox emotes to us.
The pages have vibrant prose, sparkling dialogue, and a whirlwind of emotions that swirl and dance like confetti in the air. The characters leap off the page, their hearts beating with a rhythm that draws you into their world, making you laugh, cry, and cheer for their happiness. The humor is sharp and witty, the romance tender and profound, creating a tapestry of words that are both dazzling and deeply moving.
This delightful tale is an emotional rollercoaster, a dazzling display of love and resilience that captures the essence of the human spirit. It’s a story that will warm your heart, ignite your imagination, and leave you with a lingering smile, reminding you of the transformative power of love and the magic of Christmas. Dive into this enchanting adventure and let yourself be carried away by the sparkling brilliance of Lawson and Chester’s journey to happily ever after.
This was so stinking adorable. I absolutely LOVED both our MC's Chester and Lawson and the deep appreciation and powerful love they shared. This is set in the world of The Vet Boys and this series just seems to be getting better as I read. Casey Cox delivers a sweet holiday romance with handsome veterinarians, cute cuddly animals, and eggnog that may be a bit too strong at times, with so many laughs and swoons.
Lawson (Law) and Chester (Chess) are college BFF's and they do basically everything together. I loved their mutual respect and how they fed off each other's love and positivity. They are kind of the cutest friends ever and I was gushing over them the entire time. Chester is this cinnamon roll love bug who does not have a mean bone in his body. He is always smiling and is so caring and he is aspiring to become a vet because his love for animals is strong. He always see's the bright side of things and has the biggest heart. And he may also have a little bit of a manageable crush on his BFF and roomie. And Lawson is not really the opposite of Chess but is slightly less exuberant. He is honest and also caring but he does tend to want to fade into the background and observe rather than take part. He is maybe sometimes pessimistic, but he is no way a downer. He has had not the best home life, so it also takes a lot for him to trust and come out of his shell. And with Chess by his side, it is impossible not to feel full of life and loved. They really balanced each other out. I LOVED them so so much. The beginning of the book where they both interview for the same veterinarian internship and then both graciously asked for the other to have the upper hand, it was so dang sweet. And that set the tone for the entire book.
I love friends to lovers (one of my fav tropes) and this way is my favorite, with some simmering feelings in the background but the friends in question are so close they would never ruin something so good by admitting them and risking being rejected. And it's not until other really amazing and loud and opinionated people come into their lives that they finally see the light. I loved how Chess and the Vet Boys have come up with an idea to make Law love this holiday season, making it his best one yet to make him forget all the others. Project Got Me Merry is full only the best of the holidays wrapped up in a big bow for Lawson. And once that plan is in place it opens the door for Chester to realize his feelings may be matched when a too heavily spiked round of eggnog turns into kissing to end all kisses. I loved their connection and care and how even when things got hot and heavy, they still had nothing but respect for one another. It's so sweet seeing them fall in love during the holiday, it was laid out perfectly with some ridiculous nights of fun and a mission to get the tree up and decorated before Christmas! Chester loves all things Christmas and Lawon's loves all things Chester and together they made it perfect.
I am really excited to see where this series goes next and I liked how this had a bit more heat and intimacy. I still haven't started from the beginning, but I definitely plan to. Cox seems to deliver low angst and super mushy love stories that you can't help but smile throughout. If you are looking for a lighthearted Christmas read this is where you should start!
Solid 4 Christmasy stars!
*I voluntarily read and reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.*
full of fun, joy, love and a reminder of what the Christmas spirit is all about
Rating: 4.5🌈
A wonderful series just continues on its own hopeful, warm-hearted journey with two new characters and latest members of the Vet Shop Boys found family of vets and their partners and pets.
Well, almost latest. There’s been an Aussie vet with marriage issues added but his story is later.
Now we are treated to the heartwarming story of the deepest best friends to lovers romance and a renewal of the Christmas spirit for one and all.
The one lacking in holiday’s cheer (for all the depressing and heartbreaking reasons) is Lawson Barnes, last year vet student and best friend of the ever positive, very handsome Chester Mathews. Chess is also in his last year of vet school and they both apply for the one internship at the Vet Shop Boys. Their interesting interviews and Gus’s big heart sees both of them working together with two internships and suddenly they’re finding a new home and family around them.
The 2-person POV works beautifully to bring the initial mindsets of each man into clarity so as Law and Chess grow and change, we see it reflected in each other’s thoughts and emotions, and actions.
It starts with Chester’s plan to make Law learn to love Christmas, a season Law’s never really experienced due to his parental negligence and sad adolescence. He, obviously, pulls on all the other vets and partners to aid in his plan.
Cox’s storylines shine spotlights on the other couples while giving focus to Chester and Lawson’s journey to HEA.
This is full of fun, joy, love and a reminder of what the Christmas spirit is all about.
I thoroughly enjoyed it and recommend Got Me Merry (Vet Shop Boys Book 6) by Casey Cox . Pick it and the rest of the series up for great contemporary romance reading.
Vet Shop Boys series so far:
- [x] Got Me Hoping #1 - [x] Got Me Wishing #2 - [x] Got Me Looking #3 - [x] Got Me Thinking #4 - [x] Got Me Going #5 - [x] Got Me Merry #6
What’s better than a Vet Shop Boys book? A Christmas Vet Shop Boys book! Chester and Lawson are Vet School students, best friends, roommates and incredibly attracted one another. Have they done anything about it? No. Do they know that they’re in love with each other? Also no. Have they ever acted on their feelings physically? Again no.
Fear not, Vet Shop Boys lovers, our nosy, well-meaning, loved-up and fellow vets (and their partners) are going to help them find their way. Of course, Chester doesn’t know that’s what their new internship coworkers are doing. No, Chester thinks that the Vets & Co. are helping Chester make Lawson fall in love… with Christmas. See, Lawson is the product of an affair, not really wanted by either of his parents or their families, and has been treated as a nuisance for his entire life. He hates Christmas, he hates the false cheer, he hates the rush to spend money people don’t really have, he hates THAT song (you know the one) and he hates that he can’t make himself love it for Chester.
With the help of some Vet elves, a very chilly Fun Run, parties, mistletoe and Christmas magic, will our soon-to-be vets find their way to one another at long last? Will Lawson find the true meaning of Christmas around his best friend, chosen/found family and a big, sweet dog who needs the love that only Ches and Law can give?
Casey Cox brings all the Vet Shop Boys of Got Me past together to make some Christmas magic happen and I am totally here for it.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and, as always, my review is honest and unpaid. Got Me Merry Casey Cox
Got Me Merry by Casey Cox is book 6 in the Vet Shop Boy series. This is a grumpy/sunshine, best friends-to-lovers contemporary romance. While it can be read as a standalone, I'd recommend reading the rest of the story at some point.
Best friends and roommates Chester and Lawson met at veterinarian school. They're coming up on their final year and interview for the same paid internship at the Veterinarian office. During the interview, they basically wax poetic about the other to the owner, Gus. He decides to take both on because of their dedication to animals and each other. He sees what they can't just yet.
Chester is sunshine and candy canes. His secret crush on his best friend is almost as large as his love for Christmas. All he wants this year is for Lawson to experience the joy of the holiday too. He comes up with a plan and gets the other guys at the Vet office in on it too. "Operation Got Me Merry" commences, and it's just what everyone needs to get in the holiday spirit.
Lawson is grumpy and jaded. He grew up in a less than happy situation. Two separate homes and both seemed to have forgotten him. His defenses are high. The only one to break through them is Chester. Their relationship was definitely inevitable. It just took him a little bit to see what was right in front of his face.
My favorite part of this book was the found family aspect. The Vet Shop Boys are the perfect example of that, and the way they helped Chester make Lawson fall in love with Christmas was heartwarming. It was really nice seeing what all the guys have been up to.
This is the very definition of a holiday romance. It's got all the goods. I definitely recommend this book and series to everyone.

I've been waiting for this book for months, ever since I read the first five books in the series this summer. To my chagrin I barely read the synopsis and THOUGHT I was going to be reading Jeremy's story - oopsie!
Instead, we are in for a treat with Chess and Law, besties who are vying for the same internship at the Vet Shop Boys clinic as they finish their last year together at vet school. Bless Gus' romantic heart he decides to hire both of them after he detects love brewing. Law hasn't had the most loving, stable past and as a result isn't much of a fan of Christmas. Chess on the other hand loves it and elicits the help of the rest of the vets at the clinic to show Law what the season can be. The guys eagerly agree with the ulterior motive of getting our clueless heroes to realize they're in love with each other and belong together long past Christmas.
This story had a lot of my favourite things, friends to lovers, lots of holiday shenanigans, and an adorable dog. Obviously all of the guys/couples from previous books make appearances and while you don't necessarily have to read the others first it would certainly enhance your experience since otherwise it is quite a cast of characters. I love how developed everyone is, like a real family. This was a perfect holiday read.
Funny story, for those reading on their Kindle, the actual book concludes at 88%, this is important for pacing as I was trying to finish the story before bed the other night and had to concede defeat at around 70% even though it felt like the story was coming to an end I knew I couldn't stay up for another hour, however, the following evening as I sunk into my hot bubble bath with a glass of wine I quickly realized that I only had about half an hour of reading left, which left me scrambling for another book to read right after, lol.
Got Me Merry is the sixth book in the Vet Shop Boys series by Casey Cox which is Lawson and Chester's story.
Lawson and Chester have been best friends since they met in vet school. Chester is determined to get Lawson to fall in love with Christmas but the Vet Shop Boys have another plan to help Chester and Lawson realize that they are in love with each other.
OMG!!!! Chester and Lawson are so absolutely perfect for each other. They are the definition of opposites with Lawson the grumpy Scrooge and Chester the cheery elf and their banter proves how tight they are. I love how the Vet Shop Boys were able to see everything Chester and Lawson couldn't and helped them along.
I was laughing out loud so often while enjoying the entire book and my heart was so full of holiday cheer. I love heading to Brookhaven to hang out with the Vet Shop Boys and can not wait for the next book in the series to head back.
John Solo did a great job bringing the story and all of the characters to life.
Get ready for... mm, holiday (Christmas), grumpy/sunshine, small town, best friends, roommates, opposites attract, medical romance told in the dual first-person point of view.
*4.5* I love this series and the guys really show their best sides in this festive edition as best friends, Lawson and Chester are at the Vet Shop Boys on internships as they finish up at vet school. They're immediately welcomed with open arms and treated like family, something that Lawson is not used to from anyone other than Chess. They been best friends for the whole of college and are as close as can be, even having a secret crush on each other. With The VSB's help, Chess is determined to get Lawson in the Christmas spirit, it never having been a holiday he's enjoyed. There's an added benefit that has the two friends getting even closer and sharing more than festive cheer with each other. It's a really sweet and low angst friends to lovers romance. The only angst comes in the form of Lawson's reasons for not liking Christmas, or his family, but there is no denying Gus, Fulton and all of the guys from VSB as they hold Christmas events to draw Lawson out of his shell and gently nudge the two friends together. Luckily, it doesn't take them too long to realise and they are quick to see what they want from each other. Definitely a recommended read for fans of the series. It's a great balance of fun, serious, Christmas and romance. It can be read as a stand alone but I'd recommend reading the others from the series to know the characters and their relationships/histories coming into this one. We are given hints of two new vets coming in that will be getting their own stories soon so am looking forward to those! I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.
This Casey Cox Christmas book is exactly what you'd expect from a Casey Cox Christmas book, actually. Got Me Merry is fluffy, spicy, humorous, and heart warming, incredibly low angst, and just amazing.
Chester and Lawson have been best friends since college. They have both also had long standing crushes on one another, crushes neither of them have said anything about due to the fact that they don't want to ruin the friendship if the other doesn't reciprocate. In a lot of ways, they are complete opposites. They are a grumpy/sunshine duo of adorableness, and they'd do anything for one another. Including both speaking out about how amazing the other one is in their interview for the one paid intern role at the Vet Shop Boys clinic.
Which, because its the Vet Shop Boys and they value friendship and family, That's not even a spoiler, really, but tagging it just to be on the safe side. The book is focused on their friendship as it develops into more. Its a great ride and its filled with a lot of heart and humor. I love the two boys. They have great characterizations and their interactions with the other Vet Shop Boys? Amazing.
While this book can be read as a standalone, highly recommend reading what comes before. You'll catch a lot of fun easter eggs and you'll understand the side characters more as they do play a pretty good part in this story.
If anyone saw me reading this book, they would have seen the cheesiest grin on my face! There were so many parts of this story that had me chuckling and smiling! This was such a fun lighthearted holiday romance and such a good read.
In this latest addition to The Vet Shop Boys, we meet Chester and Lawson who are two vet students finishing up their final year of school and looking for internships. They have been friends and roommates for several years and are in tune and understand each other so well. Each has their own secret that they have been hiding a crush on each other. When they come to the vet clinic, Gus, Harmony and the rest of the group do their best to get Lawson into the holiday spirit and get these two to realize their feelings for each other.
This is definitely more of a slow burn romance with the spice towards the end of the book but the feel good holiday cheer of the book for me was the primary focus. The holidays are difficult for many people including those with tough family situations but Chester hopes he can show Lawson the happiness of the holidays as well as how much he means to him.
I always enjoy the set up for the next book in this series. Tiny little cliffhangers that lead up to the next and I think I have a good guess as to which couple will be the focus in the next book! I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Opposites really do attract in this very engaging and enjoyable romance between best friends Lawson and Chester (Chess).
Lawson is gruff, sarcastic and cynical, grumpy and anti relationships due to his less than stellar parents. He also despises all things Christmas. Chess is a big marshmallow who is full of sweetness and sunshine, super loyal, very passionate and full of optimism. He also loves Christmas. Somehow these two ending up being the best of friends sharing a home together.
Chess, along with the other Vet Shop Boys employees, decides to show Lawson how wonderful Christmas can really be. This leads to some fun get togethers with the veterinarians and abs are involved! Slowly but surely this “mission” has Lawson starting to enjoy the season and all the new traditions that he and Chess come up with. Traditions that lead to some very sweet and steamy times!
This book had me laughing at times and also feeling a bit heart sore for Lawson’s childhood but I had a huge smile on my face at the end. All the characters from previous books are here to celebrate and we get a tiny glimpse of what’s coming next. You don’t need to have read the previous books but it would enhance the reading experience.
This is definitely one for the top 5 of Christmas romances in my view. I laughed so much and had such a great time reading this book, I just want to move there and hang out with the VSB.
Some parts are not easy, Lawson's past can be difficult to swallow but it very much explains his grinch attitude. Chester is trying everything to convince Lawson that Christmas is a time to enjoy.
So far quite cliche and well known storylines. What makes this book so great is the way the vets are meddling in Chester's quest as they not also try to encourage the Christmas spirit but they also know that Chester is head over heels in love with Lawson and they do what they do best - ensuring love wins at the end. I love the get-togethers, I may even think that these guys can't make a Christmas jumper fashionable.
Slowly Lawson not only starts to like Christmas but he also sees Chester as not just his friend but the fact that relationships are not something to be afraid of.
I am normally not a fan of stories with fairly young characters, both guys are still students. But they come over as grown up, not silly immature characters.
I like friends to lovers as a genre but (and yes, I know it's silly when they're fictional characters) I always get upset for the one who's been pining for their oblivious friend for years. That's why I was so glad Casey has made both his MCs completely oblivious of how the other one felt about them. Lawson, the 'not a Grinch' but doesn't know how to do Christmas, and Chester, the antithesis of the Grinch, are best friends and perfect for each other but don't see it. I loved their closeness as friends, their obvious affection and support for each other, being a couple even when they weren't a couple. The reason why Law didn't like Christmas was so sad, but seeing Chess and the Vet Shop Boys showing him how good the festive season can be when you have friends and a found family to spend it with was lovely, and made for a great story. I was pulled back in to the VSB world immediately, loved seeing all the vets and their partners again, and watching them welcome Law and Chess into the fold was wonderful. The epilogue was perfect for them, and the whole story was a delight from start to finish, one hun p!
Lawson and Chess are roomies and besties. They are both interviewing for the same job at VSB. Because they are best friends they talk up the other one more. Gus ends up giving both of them the internship. The VSB see something Law and Chess don't see. Well Law is crushing on Chess and vice-versa. But the VSB see more. Chess asks for all their help because Law doesn't like Christmas and he wants to help him like it. Thus the title Got Me Merry having to do with the title the VSB gave the whole plan. (Which for the VSB also includes the Law & Chess in Love program) I loved this one. It was fun. Yes. Law had a rough life but Chess wraps him up in a ball of gooey goodness to keep him from ever feeling unwanted. Then the VSB step in and add to that and really expand his heart to include all of them as family. This book hits you in the feels. It's a.) A Christmas Book; b.) A Book with pets in it this one focused on special needs pets; c.) A Book about falling in love Please read. Can't wait to read #7 which I have a feeling is about Jeremy and Locky?
The cover shown is awful. It looks nothing like either of the MCs and is actively unappealing, sad to say, because this is the one that shows up almost everywhere. Much, much, much better cover showing Chester here: https://is1-ssl.mzstatic.com/image/th...
This is a very sweet Christmas story about a Sunshine teaching a Grumpy to love Christmas with the help of the whole Vet Shop gang. Lots of really fun and often meaningful times with the characters from the first books, and some very fun hijinks. Zero angst and some sweet smexy times in the best-friends-to-lovers trope.
Audiobook: John Solo kind of grated on me with this one. Every once in a while there's a book that I'm pretty sure would be much sexier if I read it, and this is one. Thank goodness in the actually steamy scenes he was good, but otherwise I didn't like his voices and...well other stuff. All that said, he's extremely good with acting and narrating in general. He obviously cares about bringing the story and characters to life, and he goes beyond the printed words with his acting to make that happen. I listened on Hoopla.
A Holiday romance that is a wonderful addition to this series. This is the story of two Vet interns--best friends--up for one position at the Vet Shop. Each wanting the job, but then talking up their best friend. Thankfully, Gus owns the place and hires both of these boys to work for the next two months (Nov through Jan).
The holiday fun begins because Harmony, the ever vigilant receptionist--obsessed with hot gay male couples) sees right away what even Chester and Lawson don't see--that they are totally in love with each other.
The hijinks begin with a story of getting Lawson to love Christmas--which he despises due to his awful childhood, whereas Chess LOVES Christmas.
First, they have their whole monthly Christmas happenings and on the 20th a "fun run" to raise money for Bishop's animal shelter where Chess fell in love a amputee dog, Rudy. So the fun begins and in the meantime the Vets and Harmony are working to make the two boys realize that they love each other. Starting with mistletoe that leads to not only kissing.
Lawson has never been a fan of Christmas—the crowds, the cold, and the ever-present Mariah Carey song. Without family traditions or holiday cheer, he’s content focusing on his veterinary internship and spending time with his best friend, Chester. But Chester has other plans. With a team of holiday-loving vets by his side, he’s determined to make Lawson enjoy the season—and maybe even fall in love. Lawson is skeptical, but this Christmas might just surprise him.
This was a sweet Christmas story in the Vet Shop Boys series with a good dose of romance. I loved the two best friends who were everything to each other without the romantic relationship. The vets were such fun and the fun run clothing was inspired lol. Easy to read, feel and understand. Lots of emotions and feelings as mistletoe was put to good use. This was an MM story with mature content.
