Cyril “Apex” Tayback is an enforcer for the Born Villains Motorcycle Club. He suffered a brutal childhood, bouncing from one trauma to another. When the club found the angry, young man living in the woods, he was on his way to a life in prison or an early grave. Now, Apex’s their most feared enforcer.

Seeking help from the Born Villains Motorcycle Club, Giselle has escaped a painful past she can no longer remember. Her body tells a story of suffering, but her mind is a blank slate. All she knows is her heart already belongs to the fierce and beautiful biker.

Claiming Giselle immediately, Apex won’t allow her past or anything else to stand in the way of their future.

But the Born Villains face problems beyond a lost woman's violent past. They'll contend with secrets brewing in a rival club and the aftershocks from a brutal attack on the heart of their sanctuary.

The Born Villains MC series contains sexual content, harsh language, graphic violence, and drug use. This book is only suitable for readers 18+. Trigger warnings: childhood abuse, sexual abuse, and cheating (not H/h).

One of the best books I have read in a long time. This book is one you keep thinking about once you finish it and very impatiently wait for the next book to come, or to find any information available. Bijou Hunter gives us a whole new world with a great big book filled with new characters and conflicts. We get to dig into this first book(with many more to come, I hope). This book is also not like her other books in that its a little darker(though I have read way more books with darker themes/charcter's). And a new twist this is multi character, which I LOVED! We get a main hero and heroine with their chapters and then we get side characters that get chapters and this added such a great complexity and depth to this book that it made me fall more in love. I will say before I started reading I was worried that the multi characters idea had the possibility of confusing readers and taking away from the hero and heroine but that couldn't be further from the truth.

In this book we get a new MC that was built by a strong kind man who grew up rough and founded a MC that could also take in and help those left behind or hurt by the world. One of those people is Apex The MC's enforcer who has that job because he does it well. Getting a call about a possible issue Apex is sent to see what the problem is and take care of it. What he finds is a terrified woman and two dead men. Normally the MC would take her in and welcome her with open arms but after a devastating attack the MC is leery of outsiders but still wants to help just not so openly and freely as before.

What they learn and more importantly what they don't learn turns Apex's life on its head and Apex becomes entranced with this lady Giselle and knows instantly she is the only woman for him. Giselle has more to deal with than most people and finds herself unsure and afraid but Apex is what calms and comfort her. While trying to make a new life Giselle has a whole new community of people some very loving and welcoming and others still unsure, But Apex is all that really matters.

As they fall in love and try to move forward Giselle's past can't be left unfinished but opening that makes a whole new set of issues that may be more than they could have imagined. And a rival MC may be causing problems and trying to take over their MC, something they won't ever give up without a fight.

I'm trying to be vague in my review because I don't want to spoil it, but trust me and give this book a try. I loved Apex and Giselle but I also loved Overlord and his girls, Sister Sass, Thorn, Lady Bug, Kat, Papa Bear(the founder), Mabie and so so so many more. I am blown away with how Bijou was able to handle not only giving us a whole new world with a ton of characters but also giving us so many characters with their own chapters and writing it so we wouldn't get mixed up or confused. I loved Apex, he's a great Bijou Hunter hero Strong, Imposing, Aggressive (in all the best ways) and a fool for Giselle once he fall in love with her. And he falls hard. Giselle is a wonderful heroine, she's been through a lot and yet is incredibly strong and brave. I just loved this book. I could have kept reading this book had it been 500 more pages and been happy, and book two can't come quick enough.

Thank you Bijou for this Beta book!

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Even with all of the POVs. Everyone had their own personality shine through the writing and it worked well.

There are some unanswered questions about the future but with more books in the series, I imagine they will be addressed in the future.

A book about broken people getting a second chance at life and love.

Trusting Again

This is a different type of book with various POV’s which I wasn’t sure of but I have to say that these authors pulled it off making this a very enjoyable book to read. Apex is the enforcer for the Born Villains MC and is sent to check out a situation and what he finds is a petrified woman and two dead men. The MC was all about taking in people who needed help until they were burned and now are leery of outsiders and what they may bring to their club. Apex knew instantly that Giselle was going to be his but what he didn’t know at the time is that this may bring other problems for the club.

This was a great way to start a new MC series of the Born Villains MC and I can’t wait for more to come from these authors.

Spo iler Ish Con Tent!
I expected this new series of BH's to be quirky and a bit disorganized as her books usually are, but still entertaining enough to over look those quirks. However, this book introduced way too many side characters as second class mains giving them their own chapters that were not of importance enough to warrant their own chapters.
CHEATING! Now there was a warning there would be cheating, not between the H/h though. That is very much appreciated. HOWEVER, the cheating characters were GIVEN CHAPTERS where the cheating and events surrounding it were discussed. So while it wasn't the books H/h cheating, it might as well have been since the cheater couple was featured prominently. If cheating does not bother you, then give this book a try. However, if it is a trigger for you, then I would NOT consider this a safe book. The cheating is the main reason I rated so low and to warn other readers who have a no cheating rule.
That being said, I didn't think this A wrote cheating, but the level of cheating featured in this book has made the decision for me that I will most likely not continue this series as it feels like a book for them is planned too potentially, but at the least their cheating is featured heavily and I don't care for that.
If this A plans to start featuring cheating, I'm going to remove them from my To Read list.
It felt very disorganized, not enough details of importance, world building and explanation.
And while there was a warning the H/h would get their HEA and that some story lines would continue, the h's back story line was NOT solved and it really felt like her portion should have been completed in this book.
I did like the decision to not restore her previous memories, but I also have to wonder if perhaps they are needed to better development the events of the story.
Did not like the decision to give them children. I felt they should have found solace in one another as a unit and that should have been enough.
While this story had a lot of potential, it felt very scattered and not well developed enough considering the amount of detail that was presented. It should have been less or expanded on further.
If you adore any type of MC read, you might enjoy this. I would still recommend some of this A's prior series even though this new one is not one I enjoyed. They've been entertaining. Happy reading!
If not for the heavy cheating feature, I would likely have given this a 2.

Normally, I'm a person who doesn't mind multiple POVs since I feel like it can really make a story better especially when it comes to close knit groups like an MC, however, in this sense, I got confused more than once from so many which is my one big issue with Apex. See, Apex is the enforcer for the Born Villains MC, with a backstory that seriously brought me to my knees, like I had to put the book down for a minute to make myself breathe, so the MC quite literally saved his life when they found him. Giselle has her own backstory but she can't remember it despite the fact that she needs help, and Apex claims her immediately, and he intends to keep her. However, the MC life isn't always easy, and danger is very much real so there are other outside forces at play as well giving us the suspenseful aspect to it all which is always my favorite. I know this is only the first book in this series, so I'm going to continue on with it, and hopefully I'll not be so confused with all the players going forward so I have to HIGHLY RECOMMEND at the end of the day!

Cyril "Apex" Tayback is the enforcer of the Born Villians MC. His MC is a bit unusual as it is a MC hat offers a safe haven for others who have been abused or need a fresh start. Recently though his MC has endured a betrayal that has left them shaken. When he is sent on a search errand, he is not thrilled by the task but a woman has shown up claiming she needs Papa Bear's help and they want to find out if she is on the up and up. Papa Bear is the one who set up the sanctuary, so Apex finds the woman who went by the name Giselle. The problem is she has no memory of what happened and who she is. Apex falls hard for the beautiful woman but can he trust her?

This was very good but had a lot of characters that had chapters dedicated to specifically them. I am definitely intrigued by this series and really enjoyed Apex and Giselle's story.

Maybe because it's a new series? but I was so excited to read this! I mean, more excited than I normally am. The whole time I was reading this I just couldn't stop thinking about how much I loved it. I LOVE the new format with all the different POVs. I guess it's considered a slow burn romance because nothing really happens until the 80% point but I didn't even notice. Normally with a slow burn I'm annoyed waiting for stuff to happen but there was so much going on here! It was so well written and easy to read, too. Loved, loved, loved this. 5 stars easy

While vastly different than the tone and rhythm of Bijou’s typical style, it was still chock full of Bijou flavor.
It was a darker subject matter, but it wasn’t so dark I had anxiety.
Check for triggers if you have them.
I will absolutely continue with this new series!

I really had to sit on this review for a few days just to process what I was feeling.

Bijou gave a heads up that this book would be different - the multiple POV's, back to a grittier story, a story spanning multiple books, etc. and it definitely was different. Did it still have her unique "voice"? Absolutely. So if you're a fan of Bijou I'd still recommend giving this one a shot even if you're not sure about the change up.

For me, this one was a miss. I cracked it open and there is a character listing in the front that is pages long and I started to be really apprehensive. I was into trying the multiple POV's but there were simply too many characters. After finishing, I still can't remember the relation of everyone, what they look like, how they got their road names. Apex, Giselle, Overlord, and Papa Bear are the only ones I can really flesh out from memory. It was so overwhelming. As soon as I would start to connect to a character's POV then it was over and I'd need to start again - sadly, Apex and Giselle got lost in the shuffle.

There is so much trauma and no happiness - no one has not had their lives ruined by trauma. I felt the trauma (kudos to the writing on this) but it was very heavy. There was no relief. Papa Bear was a shining light but not present enough in the story to lift any of the weight and I even felt bad for his old lady that knows she'll be second best forever. Trigger warnings should definitely be headed here and there are a lot. Apex's flashback was absolutely brutal and it'll be a scene I'll never forget.

Around 80% I started to be fatigued and had to push through to the end. There was so much going on but nothing was really progressing. We got some clues but I just needed a bit more info to stay engaged. Also, new characters are still be introduced past this point. I was exhausted.

Like I said, I'm still thinking about this book days later and that says something about the story and the writing. I still want to know what's going on and will continue the series. 3.5 stars.

This is the first book of this series and I am going to warn you....I really don't think this can be a standalone story. This book starts with a character index of who is who and you will need it. I read the reviews before reading this, so I was warned, but there are so many characters and secondary storylines that it is really hard to keep up. This is supposed to be Apex and Giselle's story, but it is really everyone's story. It is centered around The Sanctuary which is a compound created by Papa Bear years ago for people needing a safe haven to start over in life.

This story centers around Apex and Giselle, but honestly their story just gets lost. Apex is an enforcer for the Born Villains Motorcycle Club. He had a brutal childhood and turned into an angry young man. He was found and taken in by Papa Bear and given a second chance at a good life. Giselle has escaped a painful past, but her amnesia does not allow her to know who she was or where she came from. All they know is that she was seeking refuge from Papa Bear. She and Apex bond immediately and he claims her as his.

I really wanted to like this story because there is some really deep content and subject matter. I just could not keep up. The storylines are disjointed and unfinished and there are just too many characters which leaves the reader a little frustrated. There is some content that may not be to everyone's liking either. There is mention of drugs, cheating, abuse, but none with Apex and Giselle. They are loyal to each other from the start. I don't want to ruin anything for anyone, so I will just say don't plan on having your questions answered at the end of this book. I would hope the storylines continue with answers to unresolved issues because although Apex and Giselle get their happily ever after, there are definitely huge missing pieces to their storyline. ⭐⭐⭐

Apex & Giselle

Storyline 5 stars
Characters 5 stars
writing style 3 stars

The beginning of a new series. Please prepare yourself with the author's message. This is not written like most stories, MC books. There are a ton of characters and each of them has their own story and background which they tell in their own POV. For me, this detracted from Apex and Giselle. Although, I was unable to stop reading because I had to find out how their lives turned out. And ended really liking the story.

Giselle ran from her vicious life to Papa Bear's Sanctuary, a place where he helped those with needs abused, and without hope. Then she got afraid and ran. Most of the people in the MC were rescued by Papa Bear as the former President, original member, father, and overall confidant. Apex is the first brother to see her bruised and beaten. He's a huge beast of a man with more anger than common sense. Yet when he meets her he changes and he claims her never planning to give her up.

Their love story is filled with beauty, pain, wonder, and every other emotion. She doesn't remember who she is after a serious concussion. Will she ever remember her past?

There is way too much going on with so many characters. There is so much pain and examples of man's cruelty to man. If you never thought much about that phase this one will make it clear. The best part is that the pain both of them suffer is soothed by being together. The author does say there will be a happy ending so...

I did enjoy this book although I hope the rest of the series is more directed to one couple with just a dash of the rest of the characters.

This story had so much going on, and I'm not talking drama, danger, violence wise, I'm talking there were so many characters that had a voice that it was confusing at times. Apex and Giselle are the main couple, Apex is one of the enforcers for the MC and Giselle is on the run, but due to trauma she has no memory of who or what she is running from. Apex saw Giselle and saw someone that was just as broken as him, someone that despite being broken, to him was perfect. He just has to figure out how she will fit into his world, and if he can get her to stay. But once she gets her memory back will she be able to stay, or does she have a world she needs to get back too?

Despite this being done soap opera style, I was pulled into this world. I'm now invested to see all the different characters through their stories. This does give us some just ok naughty bits (but it's completely understandable why), and some drama; for what reads a bit like a nitty gritty MC story, this was very low on the danger and violence. With this story, it feels to me like it was just the introduction, we get a couple and their complete story, but the rest was just introductions to everyone else and what they are thinking and feeling. I still can't decide if I liked this style or not but I give this 4 stars as it did pull me in.

Both authors of this writing duo were new to me, although I had seen one half mentioned by fellow readers before, so I was excited going in.
Now comes the tricky part, as I hate to say that I finished book feeling underwhelmed and frustrated.
Like other reviewers have mentioned there is a detailed author note at the start, but from reading that you'd expect the main plot thread from this book to be tied up by the end, whereas in fact apart from some answers nothing was resolved at all.
I love interconnected series with overlapping plot threads, but this wasn't that or at least what I'm used to.
I think it also didn't help that for most of the book I couldn't stand the main male character, although I slightly understood why he was the way he was, I found it to be 'too much' more often than not. Especially with him being the club enforcer.
In saying all of this, aside from being unresolved, I really enjoyed the basis of the plot, it's what kept me reading, hence my frustration at the end.
The multiple POV's also made a nice change, but there were a lot of them.
Anyway, these thoughts are mine alone, and not every book is going to be for every reader. I'm sure many will enjoy this book.

Better but unresolved

There are people who know how messed up the world can be. Telling good stories about the broken and discarded souls finding happiness and love takes talent and truth. Hunter has both in abundance. I think her problem is a common one with most independent writers--too much information. The various side characters and backstory interfere with the plot and a cohesive narrative. I only need to know the bare minimum of Sanctuary and Papa Bear. Blunt and his issues, Ghost, and all the various side characters could go in other books. Overlord is next, have him make the trip to Texas because he's running away from his life for a little bit. Have him and his sister decide to see what's what. She feels she's not a real member of the club and he fears the failure he reads in his daughters' eyes. Have the recon be a bit more harrowing with something erupting from the two bad guys that are set up for the series but never encountered. Giselle is a ticking bomb disarm her trigger before the HEA. Focus on the couple, their issues and healing, and the next two characters in the series that's it. Having a large cast, letting everyone have the spotlight for a minute and resolving nothing doesn't entice people to purchase future books.

Broken souls can be saved

This was an interesting read. I found it to be very different from what I'm used to. I liked our MC, main characters and all the other characters really. It took me time to figure out if I liked or were annoyed by chapters changing all the time on whose perspective we read from. I'm used to it being from the book's main characters, usually max three different points of views but Apex's book had many more. While I felt like it was good to have all information on what happens and where I'm a little hesitant if we needed as many as we got. Though the point i think Hunter and Flynn had was to get the reader as hooked as possible not only to this story but to other MC members as well so they'd read more of the series. I do hope that some of the past events will be "shown" in later books and not just referred to like in this one because they seemed to be important and had great impact on MC's lives. I think some questions are good so you hook a reader but on the other hand i felt many times like i missed something or felt like i needed more background information which was annoying. I also felt like some peoples chapter's weren't really needed and some I'd wanted to have more. These are the reasons why I will give only four stars.

Apex is the first book in the Born Villains MC Series. This book is a bit different from Bijou’s other books as it features multiple POV’s throughout the book. I wasn’t sure how that would work but I actually really liked having the multiple POV’s because it gives the reader a little background on future character’s storylines and you get a feel for the series on another level. Apex is about the Born Villains Enforcer who’s had a rough childhood that he’s still trying to come to terms with and he’s tasked with finding a woman in town who was asking for help at the local diner and looking for the MC Matriarch Papa Bear’s Sanctuary. The woman (Giselle) got spooked and left but they know she needs help. Apex finds here at the local motel and all it took was one look at her that changed his entire outlook on life. She’s his and he’ll do whatever it takes to protect her from who she’s running away from. The only problem, she’s got a head injury and has amnesia and the only lead are the 2 dead men in her hotel room.
Great beginning to this new series and waiting for more.
I was given an ARC for my honest review.

A Fantastic Start To A New MC Series!!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Review

Bijou Hunter is a new to me author and I will definitely be checking out some of her past releases. Written in several different POV’s, more than I’m used to, but was easy to follow and it gave you more insights to others views. Great bunch of characters especially our main couple.

This is Apex and Giselle’s story and their journeys they faced to reach one another. They truly are the perfect couple and are so good together. As soon as Apex seen Giselle he knew without a doubt she would be his. Both are from dark difficult pasts but both are stronger and who they’ve become because of them. With the multiple POV’s we also get to see other story lines that branch out and could lead to other books in series.

I really look forward to reading where Bijou takes us next in this series and getting to read more about the other characters and meeting new ones. All in all if you love strong characters, HEA’s and MC series books then this is a must read!!

This is the first in a new series and is Cyril / Apex and Giselle’s journey. Apex is the club’s enforcer and is sent out to investigate some trouble that has been reported, which is where he comes across Giselle. Giselle has escaped a violent past, which she no longer remembers, and from the moment Apex meets her he knows she is the one for her. With a rival club and some devastating attacks, not all are willing to help Giselle which they normally would, as they are wary, but Apex will be there for her through thick and thin. Giselle may have been through so much, but she has come out the other side stronger, braver, and more determined. This is a well written story which is dark, raw, gritty, and with secrets, intrigue, violence, conflict, turmoil, tension, emotions, twists, action, and is a thrilling and riveting page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented duo whose work I highly recommend.

“I can’t even with you today, chump.”

OMG this book!! It has been quite some time since I couldn’t put a book down, but that is exactly what this book did.

Apex, big, muscled, gorgeous and damaged. If it weren’t for the Born Villains MC he probably wouldn’t be around. He’s sent out on a job that he does not want to do, doesn’t feel is something he should do as an enforcer, but it changes his life in ways he never thought possible.

Giselle has no memory of her past; all she knows is her memories begin when Apex finds her.

What a ride!!! This book has A LOT going on. Lots of characters with many different stories. This book is told from multiple POV's, but the character development is amazing. The one character, Zoey is so broken but a great comedic relief !! Information repeats itself but not in an annoying way, something new is revealed each time a story is repeated. EPIC. AMAZING. CANNOT wait for the next book, this is a MUST READ!!! 5 Villainess stars

I thought this was uniquely written it's like something I've never read before , this would also be the first book that I've read by the author and I can't wait to read more . I thought it was interesting not only getting the POV of the main characters but of the secondary characters that I can't wait to get a hold of their stories . I'm really excited to see were this goes from here and I hope to read more from this couple in the next books in the series always amazing to get to see what every one is up to . It distract me a bit though at times because I wanted more from the couples point of views . looking forward to reading what's to come in the Born Villains Mc .

I wasn’t sure about the multi characters POV theme, but Wow I loved it! It was one of the best books I’ve read in a while! I loved all the characters and stories running at the same time! Apex grabbed me from the first page and I couldn’t put it down! Bijou and Juliet have created a new world full of characters with their own problems and conflicts. Apex and Giselle were perfect for each other. As soon as he sees her he knows she’s his. Many things are going on within this book that keep you glued to the story. I can’t wait for the next book to see what happens next! Thank you Bijou and Juliet for the Born Villains MC series! It’s going to a fantastic series!

Loved it! This was a fantastic start to a new series by Bijou Hunter & Juliet Flynn. I don’t know if I’ll be in the majority or the minority … but I absolutely loved the multiple POV’s throughout the book. They in no way detracted from the heartbreaking beauty of Giselle and Apex’s love story. These two battered souls were so perfect for each other. And the authors gave us not one, but two killer epilogues. I enjoyed every second of this book. I laughed, I cried and I can’t wait for the next Born Villains MC story. Looking forward to Overlook / Sister Sass / Thorn / Mabie / Ghost / Dire / Eliza … so many amazing stories to come.

This is a harder book to read than Bijou has been writing lately, I’d say it’s closer to her very first books, however there are more intertwining stories that are sad than those had. The writing is really well done. I liked most of the characters and enjoyed getting to know Apex and Giselle. While they get their HEA, they are still broken people, so their pieces work together with the other, but they are a bit jagged. I’m really hoping we get Mabie’s story next - she deserves a HEA, a man who looks at her like Apex does Giselle (and treats her like him too). There are a lot of side stories going on at the same time- so pay attention, but you get a sweet epilogue to Apex’s HEA.

This was an introduction to the Born Villains MC. We got to meet a lot of characters. The story did have a main storyline following Apex and Giselle as they found their way to trust, support, and love one another. There were moments of tears as well as some smiles. There was a strong backbone to this MC, lots of acceptance and support, as well as healing. Everyone had a story that was full of pain, hurt, abuse, and more, with some definite triggers for some people. I loved all of the characters and look forward to the next book to watch this family get stronger.

I received a copy of this story through Enticing Journey Book Promotions, and this is my unsolicited review.

Powerful read

I got to say this was a good read for anyone who likes MC romance. Giselle was a wrong character with everything she went through even though she never remembered. Apex was an understanding and loving character from the beginning.
What I didn't like about this was that almost every character got a chapter to talk about stuff going on with them. So you have a book that should be based on two people but then other characters lives come in and leaves you wondering about their story. I prefer reading about the specific characters and story then about others. I want to say again though, this was a good story.

Though different from her more recent releases, this still holds to Bijou style. It has some dark aspects so make sure to read the trigger warnings.
Apex and Giselle each have dark pasts to overcome on their journey to each other. Though once they find each other pieces of their past threaten to keep them from finding their happy ending.
Their love story is not the only storyline in the book. It has multiple POVs so we get clues into future stories/conflicts.
I loved this new series beginning and I can’t wait for more.

There were a lot of point of views from different characters. Still the book was entertaining.
Giselle was in the run from a past she can’t remember. She came looking for Papa Bear of the Born Villains. A motorcycle club that is more of a sanctuary for people needing help. They still do unlawful things but they dose help people.
Once Apex sees her, he claims her as his. He had a lot going on. Adding Giselle complicated things.
Drama, violence and abuse figure into the lives of the characters.

It's good...

I ♡ MC romance. It's totally my cuppa.
This story has a great underlying plot that sets it up for further books. There is enough steam to satisfy, and plenty of different characters. Maybe TOO many.

At times I felt that I needed a flowchart to keep everyone "straight". There are a ton of people introduced in this story. And it's not dual POV, it's multi POV. This fact is not my preference

Otherwise... it's good. But I probably will not look for the rest of the series.

Complete madness to read

I love bijou hunter!!! But this read, I just couldn't get through it. There are way to many pov going on, so much backstory that we all don't understand completely yet. And who knows, the book might have Eventually explained everything over time. But the multiple characters constantly talking over crowded the story with there own little tid bit of information and its was just complete madness!! Dnf @33%
