Volume 22: Kaiba begins to understand the Power of Friendship. Mask of Light summons Masked Beast of Guardius. Kaiba allows Blue-Eyes to die for a combo. Yugi gets out Valkyrion, which he baits MoL into stealing so Kaiba can use Soul Exchange to summon Obelisk. Kaiba defeats Mask of Darkness and MoL surrenders after Marik hijacks his mind and warns Yugi he captured Jonouchi. Kaiba and Yugi have enough Puzzle Cards to qualify for the Finals. Marik's henchman Rishid gathers twelve PCs off-screen so he and Marik can qualify as well. Marik possesses Jonouchi and Anzu, such that Yugi must duel Jonouchi or Anzu will swallow poison, and in the Duel the loser will be dragged into the ocean. Marik augmented Jonouchi's Deck with burn cards. To try and break the brainwashing, Base Yugi asks to take over the Duel, which also goes against Marik's intended revenge against the King. He baits Jonouchi into seeing Red-Eyes in his hand with Card Exchange, but Jonouchi's heart refuses to take the card because of his earlier promise. Yugi summons Red-Eyes to bait Jonouchi into hurting it with Rocket Warrior's effect. Yugi puts his prized possession, the Millennium Puzzle, on Jonouchi's neck as well to further erode Marik's control. Mai meets Honda, Ryuji, and Jonouchi's sister Shizuka on their way to the pier, after she wins her sixth Puzzle Card. Yugi finally starts fighting back with Archfiend of Gilfer damaging Jonouchi. Volume end.
Volume 23: Marik decides to have Jonouchi stop playing to run out the clock on the bomb, but Jonouchi is cognizant enough to continue the Duel. Marik makes Jonouchi use Meteor of Destruction to kill Yugi. As the Meteor is coming down, Jonouchi regains control of himself. Yugi uses Mystical Rift Panel to gain control of the Meteor and buy time to tell Jonouchi he loves him as a best friend, then lets the Meteor hit him. Somehow, Jonouchi is able to command the Red-Eyes on Yugi's board to attack his (i.e. Jonouchi's) LP so they end in a Draw. The bomb goes off Jonouchi saves Yugi from drowning, and Kaiba saves Jonouchi. Shizuka arrives and takes off her bandages. Kaiba declares he found the answer to the question of individual strength versus the Power of Friendship. Dark Bakura defeats Ghost Kozuka mostly off-screen to collect six Puzzle Cards. The eight quarter-finalists assemble on the Kaiba Corp blimp, the Battle Ship: Yugi, Kaiba, Jonouchi, Mai, Marik (as Namu), Rishid (as Marik), Bakura, and Ishizu. First Duel is Bakura versus Yugi. Bakura let's his Monsters die so he can Special Summon Dark Necrofear. Dark Magician Girl kills Dark Necrofear, which triggers her effect, possessing Yugi's Monsters to hurt him and heal Bakura, while Dark Necrofear also plays with the Destiny Board. Letters D and E are on the board as Bakura continues healing LP. Volume end.
Volume 24: Yugi plans to use Monster Reborn on Dark Necrofear to cancel Destiny Board, but Bakura uses Deja Vu, restoring the game field to its state last Turn. With three Monsters, Yugi is able to summon Osiris for the first time. Marik possesses Bakura to take over as his normal self and block Yugi from attacking directly, but Dark Bakura takes over again to sacrifice himself to Osiris. Marik remote-controls Anzu to grab the Millennium Ring. The next Duel begins: Jonouchi versus "Marik" (Rishid). Rishid duels with a Deck filled with Trap Cards, centered around Royal Temple, which allows him two play two Traps per turn (which isn't a limit that exists IRL...). Rishid also summons the Trap Monster, Avatar of Apophis, to attack Jonouchi, bringing his LP down to 50. Jonouchi uses his own Spells and Traps to get Jinzo out. Rishid summons his ace, Mystical Beast of Selket, which eats and absorbs Jinzo and Legendary Fisherman. We get a brief flashback of how Rishid and Marik got their scars. Volume end.

This is probably one of my favorite books in the entire series: the cover is stunning, it made me cry twice, it had so many great moments that I ran out of tabs, it has more Bakura... It's still mostly just card games and screwing the rules and friendship speeches but I love those aspects too, sooo. Amazing book 5/5.

I loved this, although I did find that Kiba showed a subtlety good side even though his ego was still on display. I also liked the duel between Bakura and the Pharaoh was better done.

This was one of the hardest books in this series to get ahold of and I have absolutely no idea why. It was good, but it wasn’t let-me-scour-the-internet-and-book-stores-for-a-copy good…

The volume was good and entertaining.
I felt cheated out of the Joey and Yugi fight since there were so many illegal damage cards and not that serious. Thought it would be better. The writer did a good job setting up some emotion for this volume, that duel was emotional and meaningful, I really liked that. Can't wait to see where teh story goes.
So excited that Mai is back, she is still one of my favorites. Bakura is a great villain, that duel was crazy good. Rashid is also a great villain along with Malik. So many villains!
The top 8 players are all interesting and really powerful, it should make for a lot of cool duels. I love tournament storylines.
