I don't remember the moment I fell in love with Edith Kennedy, but I remember the day I stopped loving her—or at least the day I told myself I'd stopped. She is a breath of fresh air. She makes me smile; she makes me whole. But when the unthinkable happens in my marriage, the love I had suppressed for her comes back full force. She is my best friend—the one I’ve always loved. She is my wife's sister.
I fell in love with my best friend, Joel Fitzpatrick, when I was fifteen. With a single touch—a single, spine-tingling kiss—I knew he was the one, even if my love was unrequited. As the years pass, I find solace in our friendship when my life is turned upside down. But when a seemingly innocent night leaves me riddled with guilt, the life I’d dared to imagine seems nothing more than impossible. He is my best friend—the one my heart belongs to. He will never be mine.
KLJ lives in South West England just on the edge of Dartmoor where the moorland goes on for days. It's beautiful, breath-taking and occasionally rather wet. She probably swears way more than she should, her mum makes the best cupcakes in history, and she goes weak at the knees for a man with a five o'clock shadow.
I absolutely loved this book. All of it, from start to finish. I can't think of anything I would change. Each word carefully placed, each sentence beautifully constructed. I felt every single emotion of our two lead characters.
Edith, her personal growth, resilience, fragility and vulnerability are endearing and I was routing for her from the beginning.
Joel is my favourite leading man of anything I've read this year. Strong, determine, passionate but real and raw, I absolutely love him. Everyone needs a Joel in their life.
I won't give too much away as I would hate to ruin the story for those who haven't read but there is a bit in this book, near the end, where I actually cried.
Modern romance stories are funny things and some can be incredibly far fetched and difficult to buy into, but this isn't like that at all. I could visualise the setting, the villages, the view over Skipton. All of it. There is a genuine believability about the story and the people in it.
I have read two of the Stargazing series and both have been mind blowing.
Rox's rating ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
(If I rated at more than 5 stars, this would actually be a 6) If anyone needs me I'll be cancelling all plans for the rest of the year and curling up in a quiet corner with everything else Jessop has written.
Be sure to show her all the love and give her all the follows across all platforms
I have read all of this authors books & this is up there with my favourite! KL’s writing in this book is wonderful, with a story that brought so many emotions throughout.
Edith & Joel are simply the perfect couple. A best friends to lovers romance but with so much MORE! This one really packed a punch.
The secondary characters in this story are just wonderful. I say wonderful, Lorna is quite possibly one of the worst characters ever, but they way she was written worked so well. When an author makes you despise a fictional character so much, you know they’ve done well!
But all the other characters that make Joel & Edith’s story so brilliant are also fantastic additions. Daniel, Teddy and of course Daisy as well.
This was a definite page turner and a book I highly recommend you read if you are a fan of romance, sizzling chemistry, heat, friendship, family with some humour thrown in too.
This book gave me ALL THE FEELS. I laughed, swooned and cried - a proper sobbing cry at one point in the story which devastated me!!
Wow! It might be small word but it sums up this book perfectly!
I love all of Kate's books and you can see how far she has come in her journey as an author in this story.
The characters are perfect and while reading you really get the sense that you know them, that they are your friends too. Daniel and Teddy have a wonderful bond that makes you smile while Daisy is what a best friend should be, standing by your side ready, having your back always.
And who doesn't want a best friend like Joel ❤️ Right from the start the chemistry and longing between Joel and Edith is so real and this continues throughout the book....even in the tough times.
Edith has a lot to deal with including her stepmum and you can feel her sadness. For me her character has to be one of my favourites, strong yet venerable.
A total rollercoaster of a read (including a proper sobbing session in one chapter!) But it all weaves in and out perfectly.
You know when you open a book from Jessop your about to take your emotions on one hell of a ride.... and I loved every minute of it!!
Say you'll be mine is a gritty, raw and emotional read that I couldn't get enough of, the banter between the characters was a joy to read and kept that smile firmly in place 😀. The storyline is at times heartbreaking as the author really gives your emotions a workout, I really think this is her best work yet!....
"The only thing I see when I look at you is sunshine. I can never look at you differently because you are the light in my life"
If your looking for a story that is full of heart ,that will make you laugh, cry and make you want to throw your Kindle with anger ,then look no further, you will not regret reading this ,highly recommend 💖
Joel and Edith what can I say. Best friends who want more from each other but scared to be together. Their past is keeping them from being together. K.L.Jessop you got me banned from facebook because of Lorna!!!! Love you to the moon and back Lady!!!! X x
A really enjoyable story that kept me interested throughout and had me looking forward to what would happen next. It was an enjoyable storyline with great characters. A very good read.
Say You'll Be Mine is one of KL Jessop's best books so far. What an emotional and powerful read that had me wanting to sob before my heart was lifted again as I read the last page with a smile on my face. I loved the friendship and connection that Edith and Joel shared; God I would give anything to have what they have. I'm absolutely in love with their story even though the journey to get there wasn't easy. This is one of those books that consumes you and then you wish you could forget about it so you can read it and experience the same enjoyment all over again. This is definitely a book I need to own in paperback!
This series is one of my favorite so far. This is book 4 in the stargazing series and the author nailed it. I loved the story of these two friends wanting for more but somehow scared of giving a go. Packed with emotions and a fantastic writing style, this book will keep you glued to the pages.
