This is the third instalment in the Not So series and it is the story of Atticus and Professor Joshua Hamlin. I loved this book and the fact that there was a little more mystery than the others and didn’t feel like it was following the same format.

I loved getting to know more about Atticus after having seen him in the other books. I loved how sweet he was and how he was slowly able to break some of his own rules as he became more secure in his relationship. I thought the way the divorce between Joshua and his wife was handled was really well as well. I loved the underlying hint of mystery and the set up for the next book which sounds like it is going to be super explosive!

All in another great book and I loved it.

My (Not So) Straight Professor is an easy read, with a happy ending, wild mystery, and a lot of drama. Good thing Joshua is a Professor of Drama! This had a lot of adventure, a sexual awakening, and a lot of interfering friends.

I struggled with the friends in this one, they were pretty rude, and completely unsupportive when it came to the relationship. They all seemed out of character. It made it hard for me to connect with the story.

The writing is really good, I just think this isn’t my style. I am really curious about Trace and Detective Mason’s story though, they sound like they will the hawt!

I really enjoyed this third installment in the series. Atticus has been such an interesting character as the roommate of the MC's from the first 2 books. I'm glad that he finally had his chance to shine. The other MC of this book is Dr. Joshua Hamlin who we met in the first book. Joshua has always thought that he is not very sexual until he hears Atticus speaking at a poetry slam and realizes that his marriage is more of a friendship than love. He and his wife end up divorcing. This book has a a mystery to it with someone threatening Joshua and trying to poison his soon to be ex-wife and then attacking Atticus. I kept trying to figure out who the villain was but ended up being taken completely by surprise. I was a joy to see Joshua and Atticus' relationship develop and to get a peek at who the next 2 MC's will be in the next book.

Once again I find myself liking a book of this series but also being sort of little bit disappointed. There's lovely UST and Atticus is great, but I don't really get the right kind of forbidden romance vibes from these books.

Joshua is weirdly reluctant at the beginning considering the circumstances and the story kind of drags a bit there. Then we suddenly get a stalker subplot, which is sort of interesting, but also it makes no sense what these people are trying to do with the situation.

At points I really enjoyed this, and I feel there are lots of good pieces present, but it's also kind of a mess. The two alpha male side characters are pretty funny and I guess a good teaser for book 4, but they were also a bit too much. This is one of the books I'd really like to "fix" if I could. Still, even with all the niggles, I did like it.

Atticus is an endearing hot mess while Joshua is a hot mess who really shouldn’t be dating anyone. There are a lot of funny moments throughout the book thanks to the friends and colleagues we’ve met prior to book 3 and to be honest those moments were my favourite scenes in this book. The mystery of this story kept things interesting, helping it to stand out from the rest of the series and I was enjoying it, but the eventual reveal seemed outrageous. Atticus and Joshua, while having some sexy scenes together, did not seem like they had a lot of true passion and to me they seemed like the type of couple who wouldn’t go the full distance together which is what a romantic HEA should be all about. After happily enjoying books 1 and 2, It hurts my heart a little to have to write a negative review on book 3. Kevin Earlywine as narrator did a great job on an otherwise mediocre story. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this audiobook.

Sadly, this story didn't work for me. It's a shame because the last 15-20% was pretty good but up until then it was just meh. I also think the story felt long but again that could just be me. Trace and Detective Mason are up next and they intrigue me so who knows I may give them a go.

QUICK THOUGHTS
-- Not so straight Professor/student pairing -- age difference -- sexual awakening -- first times -- a separation/divorce - an ex-wife -- an ass of a best friend (he has reasons) -- meddling friends -- a mystery -- a stalker -- some drama -- couldn't connect to the story or the MCs -- I'm finding the stories too similar -- likeable enough MCs... Atticus & Joshua -- characters from previous books play a role in this one -- not a stand alone -- satisfying enough ending I guess

This is such an interesting series! My (not so) Straight Professor had some mystery and suspense weaved in with the romance which was a definite win for me. Romantic suspense is my jammy jam!

I loved getting to know Atticus on a deeper level, he's been one of the more intriguing characters for ne throughout the series. Joshua is also discovering a new side to himself, or his true self rather and it's a beautiful journey for the both of them.

Plus, these covers!!! I know book cover, etc. But these covers are just fantastic.

Great mix of doubt, passion and a possible murder

Gets off to a rocky start, lots of doubts, painful for Attie and Josh, an amicable divorce and a deranged would be murderer, all mix together to give a far from straightforward plot. Fun read with a good ending, and a not subtle hint of the next book😁

A romance turned mystery

Deserves more than 5 stars. This is my third book by the author and the series is getting better by the book. This one is a slow burn romance that turns into a mystery/thriller. Keeps you intrigued, riveted and guessing through the steam and swoony stuff. Can't wait to read the next. The author left a very big tease in the end.

the chemistry between Atticus and Joshua was wow. i like how their relationship was explored slowly and how it was built up.

the mystery was really unexpected. and wasn't who i expected. but i was shocked and confused that Atticus and Joshua soo easily revealed everything to their friends who were "suspects." and they got annoyingly protective as it goes on.......

okthese two characters are nice to read and all but OMG IM SO INTERESTED IN TRACE AND DETECTIVE MASON?!!!!!!!!

My (Not So) Straight Professor isn't a story about self-discovery or coming out. It's not a story about finding the love of your life. It's also not a story about seducing anyone.

It's a weird story, with frantic pacing, some (okay, a lot of) lacy underwear kink, and a mad stalker. It's also a story about how people shouldn't communicate with others and how slight traumas can make your adult life miserable.

🌙 The story theoretically could be seen as a standalone; however, a big part of it is characters from previous books. I can't say I was lost (I didn't remember them well enough, but it was fine), but I had a feeling like I was put in the middle of the story and should know more. I should remember how the MCs' relationship was before, when, and how they fell in love. And how were their interactions with other characters before?
🌙 Because, let me tell you, everyone there was a-holes. Noisy, possessive, antipathic people who didn't care about their friends but were there only to see the drama and/or disrupt something.
It's tricky, to write snarky and sarcastic characters without making them unlikeable - and this time, at least for me, it was a failure. I hated all of them.
In the review of 1st book I remember saying that adding more interactions between different characters could make the next book better. I guess the author agreed with me - but it also resulted in giving them a lot of room for irritating behaviors. The MCs kept repeating themselves in different situations, trying to make a point and make the readers understand how they are feeling. Sadly, the obstacles didn't give them much space. Because of that, I was mostly suffering through discussions that lead to nothing. I didn't like even one of the characters, and while it's a good thing that an author can depict someone very well, it didn't work out for me.
🌙 The mystery plot seemed off. Well, no, the plot itself was okay, and the culprit's identity surprised me. The problem was the characters' interferences with the case, and their way of hiding the truth made no sense. At least to me. If someone is a real danger to your (and your partners) life, shouldn't you cooperate with the police? It's not like you did break the law by being with someone while divorcing, right? Or wearing red panties, right?
🌙 Honorable mentions to:
Trace, former best friend of one of MCs, who was spreading rumors to make him... miserable?
Detective Cutie was sexy, but pretty useless during all the interrogations (and flirting while on duty so shamelessly that it made me uncomfortable).
Ben, whose actions didn't make any sense, didn't lose any opportunity to threaten the lover of his SUPPOSEDLY BEST FRIEND.
Kerri, who was allegedly in love with her husband, but at the same time didn't lose any opportunity to make him sad and miserable. Toxic relationship at its finest.
🌙 My (Not So) Straight Professor it's an interesting book: easy to read, with HEA, a lot of characters and surprising mystery. The only problem with it is, that you can't actually like anyone there. Or at least: I couldn't. The romance was a weird angsty push-and-pull without proper reason. The people around MCs tried their best to antagonize me. By the end of the story I hoped that everyone ends up tortured and alone, not happy and together.

I received an ARC of this book from the author, and I am voluntarily leaving an unbiased review.

My (Not So) Straight Professor by DK Sutton is the 3rd book in her (Not So) University series. I would suggest that you read the first two books first as the characters from them and their stories play a big part in this one. This is the story of Drama Professor Joshua Hamlin and one of his students Atticus Lewis. Atticus has been drawn to Joshua since his freshman year but Joshua was married and thought to be straight. He also struggled with desire in his marriage and thought he was broken, but he loved his wife and thought this is the way it was going to be until he realized that he didn’t want to live this way and was in the process of getting a divorce. Then he attended a birthday party for Atticus where everyone was drinking tequila and during a game of Two Truths and a Lie discovered what he wore under his jeans . He was very surprised when he found himself turned on and realized that his feelings for Atticus were changing. The story continues as they find they are drawn to each other but since they are professor and student nothing can come of it, yet it does because the more they are together, the more they want each other and they start a secret relationship that eventually doesn’t stay a secret. The first half of the book is about their developing relationship and how their friends helped or hindered them. Then some drama is added with an increasingly demented stalker who is going after Joshua and his wife and then Atticus. At first they don’t tell anyone and try to deal with it themselves but eventually all their friends get involved and everyone is trying to keep them safe and get to the bottom of what is happening. All of this is very hard on their relationship but they keep getting together as much as they can because they mean so much to each other. Ms. Sutton writes very complex characters and their relationships. Both Joshua and Atticus have things that happened in their pasts that affect how they react to each other and to being in love. Their friends are both concerned and funny in their approaches to helping them. And she knows how to write a very evil character and keep you on the edge of your seat as you try to figure out who the stalker is and what will happen next. (And I was very surprised when I found out who it was!) I have really enjoyed all of the books in this series and this one as well. I highly recommend it and am looking forward to reading the next book when it comes out.

I greatly enjoyed the first two Not So University books and I was looking forward to seeing Atticus and Joshua's story. However, it seemed to fall a little flat. I just can't quite put my finger on the reason why.

I had no problem with the pacing of the book. With the fact that there were months between the initial hookup and the bulk of the story. I had no problem with the characters, and actually found Joshua and Atticus both to be fairly interesting characters. I absolutely loved seeing the characters from other books and I loved Joshua's relationship with Kerri, after she got used to the fact that they weren't going to be getting back together for obvious reasons. I loved the mystery aspect and trying to figure out who the stalker was - and was very surprised by the ending answer.

I think my problem was how repetitive parts of this book were. The same conversation seemed to happen on repeat about why they couldn't be together. The lack of communication between Joshua and Atticus grated at my nerves, as did the fact that they kept interfering with the police investigation of the stalker. I feel like so many problems would've been solved by them having actual conversations - and possibly staying in their own lane about the stalker nonsense, leaving it to the cops.

I also didn't really feel the deep and abiding love between them. Joshua's feelings for Atticus felt more like obession than romance. Which I don't mind, though it wasn't what I was expecting.

All in all though, it was a pleasant read, incredibly enjoyable, and sets up the next book well. And to say I'm excited for the next book is an understatement. I think I actually found myself rooting for next book's couple in this book more than Atticus and Joshua...

My [Not So] Straight Professor is a dual POV romance. It is a part of a series, but it can be read as a standalone. However, for full enjoyment, I highly recommend reading the other books in the series because a lot of dynamics are explained in those before they play out here. This book does have a fair amount of angst, but its balanced well with a good amount of steam.

** DISCLAIMER: I recieved an ARC from GRR and this is my fair and unbiased review. **

Atticus is Josh’s drama student, but something sparks for Joshua when he sees Attie reading at a poetry night. This is life changing for him, as he’s never felt real interest in anyone, even his wife, whom he’s divorcing.

They hook up but know they shouldn’t continue their affair even though they both want to. Then a stalker sends Joshua some lace panties and a note saying “I know”. He suspects it’s his ex, Kerri, until she gets sick and finds out she’s being poisoned.

Attie and Josh continue to meet, but not often and in secret, because Josh doesn’t want Kerri or Attie to get hurt. Kerri receives underwear too, and the list of suspects includes a prof who dislikes both Josh and Kerri, Attie and Joshua’s friends, and some coworkers.

Joshua and Kerri agree he should move back in to protect everyone and make it seem like they’ve reconciled. Kerri has a therapist to help her work through all this, and is coming to accept Joshua loves her but isn’t in love with her.

Attie is attacked and so has someone with him most of the time, so he and Maddie go check out the unlikeable prof’s meeting from her calendar and learn she’s in anger management. The doctor running the group notices them and they make up a story and leave.

Attie and Joshua talk with their friends and they all gladly give alibis or are willing to help in any way they can. Kerri invites Atticus to an end of year party, suggested by her therapist, where he and Josh can see each other. The stalker catches him in the bathroom and the police are called, and finally the person is caught, and how they knew things about all of them makes complete sense.

A great story, though the idea of Joshua moving back doesn’t really sound plausible with everyone knowing he wants to be with Attie.

But, this is a fun series and this book in particular has an added element of danger.

My Not So Straight Professor

It was nice to read another book in the University Series by DK Sutton.

I enjoyed meeting Atticus and Joshua and learning about their personalities and what made them find each other. They had a lot of the same feelings and ideas about love and life in general, and there were a few challenges along the way to their HEA, but they found their way together.

I loved seeing characters return from previous books in the series, and watching how the friends all interacted with one another. I was happy to see Reid and Maddie return, and I had forgotten that Atticus was Maddie’s roommate in the first book. They share their OCD tendencies for being organized, and of course it was fun to see how Ben compared as a roommate.

There were some surprises with the storyline I was not expecting, but they tied everything together very well!. It was the type of book you didn’t want to put down because you wanted to see what was going to happen next! My favorite kind!!

The Epilogue had a nice lead in for the next story, and it definitely makes me want to read it.

DK Sutton is a great storyteller because she gets you engaged with her characters and you want to know what they are up to next. Don’t miss reading this series, it will make you smile and even laugh out loud!

I really didn’t enjoy this as much as I thought I would.

I am not done with the first book in the series, but while scrolling Goodreads, I found out it was a series and I was intrigued by this blurb, so I decided to pick it up.

I think this would’ve been a really good read if 80% of the story wasn’t focused on the mysterious stalker. At first I understood the need for that conflict in the book, as I thought it was needed to bring Atticus and Joshua closer. However at some point the story went from a romance story to some half baked suspense thriller and it kept declining from there.

There was barely any romance between Joshua and Atticus, which should’ve been the focus of the book. The obvious forbidden romance. And don’t get me started on all the side characters and how it felt unnecessary for most of them to be on scene. Also Ben’s unnecessary hatred and hostility for Joshua didn’t really make any sense and it became redundant the more it was shown.

Joshua’s innocent/clueless persona was cute in the beginning but again it became overdone and I just don’t know. It felt like a lot was going on, a lot of things were missing and a lot more needed to be included, like their romance which became almost non-existent.

Trace and Detective Mason even had better romance than the main characters of the book.

I adore Atticus and Joshua so much! We'd gotten to know Atticus in the first 2 books of the series, and just a hint of his drama professor crush, Joshua. These two are just meant to be, and clearly can't stay apart once they both realize they want each other. It takes Josh an extra couple of years, poor Attie. But this book begins at the point where Josh has come to realize his feelings, and has filed for divorce from his wife, ready to explore this new direction.

The first two books of the series each had an element of mystery, mainly centered around people trying to ruin the MC's relationships. The mystery in this book is much more central to the story, as we have a full on stalker issue, people are hurt, detectives are involved. It was very engaging, and if you think you've figured it out, you probably haven't!

Also, not sure what it is about this series, because I remember really loving the first book, but I do believe each one is better than the last. I know I reviewed book 2 and said it was my fav of the two. This one bests them both, but the best part is, the teasers we got of the future MC's of book 4 were HOTTT! I can't wait for their story! Loving this series, for sure.

Atticus and Joshua have enough obstacles to deal with as they navigate the strong attraction they feel for one another. There is the fact that Atticus is a senior college student and Joshua is Prof. Hamlin. And the fact that Prof. Hamlin is married to a woman and is just embracing the fact that he is gay and after thinking that he was not meant for anything more than lukewarm affection realizing that he feels so much more for Atticus. Now he knows what it's all about. Having to navigate an almost ex-wife that does not want to let go and friends who mean well but meddle. They have a lot to deal with. So having to deal with an anonymous threat that feels threatening is a lot. But these two somewhat out of place feeling men are so right for one another and while trying to do the right thing their honesty with one another about what they want is refreshing. Them trying to do the right thing ethically for the duration of the time Atticus is a student added to the will they won't they and made me want to keep reading to see what they would do. It was not hard to like, feel for and root for this pair. His not so straight professor, definitely was not!

I can tell the main characters were majoring and have a doctorate in drama, hoo boy because there was dra-ma. Even just the way the main characters interacted with one another and their side characters. The mystery was a great part of the story and probably the only reason I stuck it out and finished the book. This one was so different from the others of the series and definitely was my least favorite. Surprisingly, the mystery part made the most sense. Everything else had me scratching my head. Professor Joshua was a conundrum. I couldn’t figure him out and he was just not very likable. Atticus lost the appeal he had gained from the previous novels. I was excited for his story and was left wildly disappointed by it. The way Joshua came to find passion for the first time in his life was interesting but I don’t think it fleshed out the way it could have. Their chemistry was supposed to be explosive but I found it lacking. There was also quite a lot of redundancy in the writing. Like, okay, we get it Professor, hydration is important?! I am intrigued by the next book and its main characters so I won’t be giving up on this series.

I really enjoyed this book and love this series! I have read the previous two books. I don’t think you absolutely have to read them before reading this book but I definitely think it would help you enjoy this book more.

Atticus was a great character in both the previous two books and I definitely looking forward to him being a main character this time. We didn’t really get to know too much about Joshua in the previous books so he was more of a mystery when I started this book.

I think Atticus and Joshua are really cute together but they did go through a lot of ups and downs. Joshua is getting divorced from his wife because he realized he was gay, but she wants to stay together. It bothered my how much she tried to dismiss Joshua’s sexuality. (I know she had “reasons” why she doubted it, but I feel like the book would have been closer to five stars if his ex was a little more respectful) With how she dismissed Joshua it felt really awkward that Joshua kept describing her as his best friend.

There is a mystery here about who is stalking some of the characters. It was fun to try and figure out who the stalker was and why.

The only other part I disliked about the book besides Joshua’s ex was Atticus’s ex. The story was a bit over the top even for a fictional story and the way the ex came back for a brief period seemed off. I’m sure it was to set up a book down the line but again I feel like the book would have been closer to five stars if the backstory of Atticus and his ex was either left out, or just a completely different story.

Overall though I really enjoyed this book, and I will definitely be reading the next one.

This is the first book that I have read by this author. There are two previous books in the series but I was fully able to read this as a standalone. It was pretty easy to fill in the blanks of the previous couples.
I was drawn to read this by the mystery element of the plot. That part of the story I really enjoyed. I had a suspect in my mind early on and then half way through completely discounted it. But was left thinking who could it be and I hope a completely unmentioned person isn’t the perpetrator (because that is bad sport). When all was revealed it was pretty good and unexpected. So top marks for mystery plotting. I really liked the scene where all the friends were gathered to work out whodunnit. The banter was good and you could tell the group were close.
There’s also been a nice set up for another potential mystery in a future book.
I really liked their relationship development but was frustrated by the ‘let’s keep apart to keep you safe element’.
Overall really enjoyed it. If you like cozy mysteries then I think you’ll love this.

This was one of those books where I wasn't sure what to expect going into it, since D.K. Sutton is a new to me author. The blurb sounded super fun and the cover is really cute, so I was happy to pick it up.

I wasn't disappointed! Though, I feel like I'm going to have to go back and read the first book in the series (I read out of order, so I did 3 first and then 2, oopse). The good thing about this book is that you can definitely pick it up and enjoy it without having read the rest of the series. I always enjoy books that stand on their own!

Atticus and Joshua are extremely cute together. And honestly, as much as I enjoyed the chemistry and their romance... there was actually a bit of a mystery aspect to this book. I wasn't expecting it, so it was a fun ride that left me more intrigued than I thought I'd be when I picked this book up.

Overall, it was a really nice read and I'm going to check out the first book in the series so I can get filled in.

I'm really excited about what comes next in this series, and I can't wait to see more.

I love this series so much, especially because it is set near my hometown! Besides that, this series is extremely well written and the characters are truly amazing. I was so excited to finally get Atticus' story because he is such a quirky character and it was great to get to see how his mind worked. Joshua was a character that really made you work to understand and relate to him I felt like. There were so many times I just wanted to give him a big hug and tell him he was okay just the way he was! Attie and Joshua do spend a lot of time struggling to communicate and find a way forward but when they finally figure it out, it is truly wonderful. There were some parts of the book that began to feel repetitive, especially when Joshua is struggling to accept himself but it does really hammer home just how much Joshua is struggling. I loved the suspense plot that carried throughout this book and was totally surprised by who ended up being the stalker! I can't wait for the next book in this series! I think the football coach and the detective will be an epic story!

Book 3 can be stand-alone but old characters pop up.

I enjoyed the story but not the relationship if that makes any sense. The main story is about Atticus and Joshua, a student/teacher. Still, it revolves around Joshua, his ex-wife, and a stalker who takes things too far. I enjoyed that side of the book far more than the main character's relationship. Saying that it was a good listen, and I enjoyed it.

The side characters/friends keep popping up in each of the books, so it may be helpful to read the other books first, which I enjoyed immensely.

A teacher, student relationship, older/younger relationship. Stalker/some violence, ex-wife.

Great writing with two characters with good personalities,
well written.

Good narration from Kevin Earlywine. As usual, I did increase the speed n audible to 1.40.

Professor Josh Hamlin and his student, Atticus had sex after a party. Attie found out the professor was still married and getting back with his wife. And then he found out that wasn't true. But someone else found out about the sex and the threats start. This was a cozy mystery that involved too many people liking each other but hiding it from each other. The guys had a large circle of friends that interfered too much and a lot of student/teacher romance that shouldn't have been allowed. Both the MC's were insecure and let their friends run their lives, but I liked them together. This was a crime with little action and too much speculation. The lacy lingerie was interesting as was the Detective and Coach. I apparently came into the middle of the series and must have needed the first books to track all the friends. I received a copy of the book from Gay Romance Reviews and this is my voluntary opinion.

I think I enjoyed this one the best so far mainly because the plot was more of a ‘whodunnit’ than just a ‘will they won’t they’ theme. Also I didn’t see the person who was responsible coming, my guesses were way out and I’m usually good at guessing 🥴

There were still some annoying aspects. Joshua’s hot and cold. I get why he was doing it but it went on too long for me or too repetitive. Also we’ve moved from a-hole professor Oliver to a female b*tchy professor pelicante. Again repetitive. Also it’s the little nuggets of information here and there that are provided but not finished. For example why won’t Ben move in with Gabe? We’ve had there book so will it be explained in the last one or are we forever to wonder? It’s just niggly loose ends for me.

I loved the craic between Trace and Mason. So I’m looking forward to the last one I hope they keep up that banter. And I’m glad we’ll get an answer to Sam at least.

This is a student/professor MM romance. I didn't really like this book, it was very disappointing. Atticus and Professor Joshua Hamlin have great chemistry, there is electricity between them. The stalker story line was really the only thing that kept me reading. The reveal came totally out of left field. The whole push and pull of I want you but we can't be together over and over again became repetitive. Let's be honest if you have chemistry like that with someone you have to grab it. How dense is Joshua that he couldn't figure out his friend Trace's feelings, could see that coming a mile away. Atticus and Joshua finally had sex at the 98% point in the book. That is a long time to wait for that payoff. Hopefully the next book about Trace and Detective Mason will be way better because they have the foundation for a great story.

Dr. Joshua Hamlin considers himself straight. But a persistent student, too much tequila, and a flash of red satin panties have him questioning everything he's ever believed about himself. Atticus is always crushing on the wrong guy. First, it was his roommate. Then his yummy but straight and married drama professor. It turns out Professor Hamlin isn't as straight or married as he thinks. As things heat up between them they realise someone doesn't want them together and will do anything to make their point. Can Atticus and his professor find true love or will their need to be together cost them everything?

I found this one a bit silly with the married but not married, the crazy cop, and the strange tequila nights. Easy to read and understand, this stretched my imagination just a little too far. This was an MM story with mature content.
