Axel is yummy
Cassie has to defend someone she doesn't want to, and then she meets Axel and its distrust and aggravation at first sight. Axel distrusts everyone, but his "brothers". They are drawn to each other in a way that they can't deny. There's angst, longing, bad guys, love, steamy, steamy scenes. You don't want to miss.

This took me a little longer to finish, it was a little slow in the beginning (if you love slow burns this is for you) but I loved the story base still in beginning it was just the moving slowly.
Once i hit chapter 23 I found it moving at a much faster pace then it got to chapter 33 and I couldn't put it down, so what took me a while to get throught (the beginning) I finished in on sitting last night 🙈 it was thst good at the end!!
I love the thrill the ending gave me I love the fact he pushed her away to save her but eventually come to realise that was wrong!
The spice was on the minimum side for me (TO WHAT IM USE TO) but u gave it the spice rating of 4 because for few the times it did happen it was hot!! The detailing on these area's were incredible! And It was never a quick read!

Fantastic
Double Standards is the gritty first book in The Notorious Five series by Sophie Dyer. This centres on Axel, head of the Notorious Five and accused of a heinous crime, and Cassidy, his Defence Attorney.
Cassidy, or Cassie, is a confident, independent woman who prides herself on her work ethic and morals, so when Axel all but forces her to represent him, she tries to decline. He goes against everything she stands for, and she wants nothing to do with the high profile case.
Axel, of course, gets his way because that's the type of man he is. I liked their Dynamic. She is headstrong and pushes back when he tries to control the situation, and he isn't used to someone not bending to his will. Axel is intrigued by Cassie, and the tension between them is palpable.
As the story progresses, more characters are introduced, and we start to learn the roles they play and how they fit. Axel has a loyal, tight nit group that sticks together. Cassie has a couple of close friends, one being a cop, and these relationships feel realistic.
Axel was a character that had a darkness just beneath the surface, and Sophie's ability to help the reader visualise this was expertly done. He doesn't trust easily and is quick to anger, but with Cassie, you can see the shift. He learns to trust her and finds himself thinking and doing things he normally wouldn't.
Cassie wrestles with her growing feelings and the complications in her life, and because they're on opposite sides of the law, she believes whatever they have can't go anywhere, she can't see it working.
The steamy scenes are oh so hot and written to perfection. Axel's demanding alpha energy, not to mention his dirty mouth, really adds another layer. The chemistry Axel and Cassie have is evident and electric.
Things really ratchet up a notch when the danger gets too close. However, Cassie never waivers in her choices, further cementing her feelings about Axel. He, on the other hand, has a crisis of conscience and needs to sort through some things and get out of his head before it's too late.
The characters are well-developed and complex, each with an obvious story to tell. The narrative is layered with suspense and intrigue that keeps you on the edge of your seat. I know this is a work of fiction, but I do like an element of realism when I'm reading, and there was a part in the courtroom that just wasn't realistic at all, it wouldn't be possible, which I felt could have the potential to hinder the storyline.
Overall, Double Standards was a fantastic read, perfect for fans of organised crime Romance with a healthy dose of suspense and spice, and while this was my first book by this author, it won't be the last.

This book has it all, action, suspense, dark brooding guys, strong females, and of course romance. Not going to lie I was worried about Cassidy cheating, even though her relationship is dying out, but thankfully there was none. Watching the strong need no one Axel lose his mind over her was great in every way. I know that people sometimes don't like the slow burn side of romance but if it is done right it is amazing, this was done right. The further I got into this story I couldn't stop myself if I try. I stayed up way too late finishing this because I had to know what happened. I can't wait to read the second book in this series.

Dark, gritty, suspenseful. What happens when a suspected mafia leader and a rising star in defense attorneys get thrown together? You get a suspenseful romance that has intrigue and mystery running through it.
Cassidy is a young lawyer who has already made a name for herself in the court room. She is tough and does what she needs to win. Axle is the mysterious leader of a mafia. Their story is the beginning of the Notorious Five series. Cassie meets Axle when he is being charged with a crime he didn’t commit and he requests she represent him in the upcoming trial. As she dives into the case she learns more about his “family” as well as some of the people around her. Life becomes more dangerous for both Cassie and Axle as they grow closer. Who is trying to work behind the scenes to take the Notorious Five down?
Cassie likes to think she is living in the white side of life but as you find out quickly she moves into the grays frequently. Axle knows his life is on the darker side and makes no excuse (as a man in his position should). He calls Cassie out on her double standards right away. He makes her acknowledge it and embrace it.
Cassie’s character is hard to love at first because of her naivety towards her current life. She works hard and has made a name for herself. She admits to starting out with idealized sense of what she would be doing and it soon changed. As she begins her relationship with Axle she knows she has to accept his life and how he lives it.
The chemistry between the two is fire. They immediately have attraction. Once they allow themselves to fall into it it explodes and is off the charts. You will be reaching for the next in the series once you finish. It’s very good.

Ok 1st let me say “Mafia Books” has never been my genre it just has never appealed to me. That’s until another author CJ Primer recommended it! I have a very healthy obsession with “The Five” each of them are absolutely intense, in their own way, they have just enough Alpha possessive hot smutt I’ll do anything for the people I love (including some illegal stuff, it’s ok I’ll look the other way) & their loyalty knows no bounds.

Suspense, action, dark broody men, and spice. This is a slow burn romance, with a very intense Mafia man. I don't tend to specifically pick Mafia romance, but I do like the "touch what's mine and die" trope LOL. Double Standards definitely delivers on that. I enjoyed this book way more then I was expecting too.

Both of these characters are morally grey, and I really enjoyed that. The chemistry between these two is really 🔥. The spicy scenes were spicy and didnt feel awkward, like they sometimes can. I have read many Mafia books but Louise Hope’s book is different Cassidy is not your typical heroine and Axel although brooding, he is loyal to those he cares for. Once you read the Notorious Five you will want more. Love the story line and the characters. Must read if you enjoy reading Mafia trope books, you won’t be disappointed.

Cassidy the female main character is one of the best defense attorneys in New York… and she knows it. She know how to play the game in the court room and play it well. Because she’s so notorious for her wins in the court room when Axel Bonanno, one of the notorious five and a leader of his own mafia, gets into some trouble for a framed murder he wants only the best to get him out, the best being Cassidy.
Axel isn’t used to hearing the word no and Cassidy is used to getting her way. Cassidy has to figure out if she’s going to take Axel’s case and if she can win if she does take it on.
Axel and Cassidy have some serious chemistry and tension going on for most of the book. And when they finally get together it is hot 🥵
L. Hope pulls the reader through navigating the fact that both characters have some morally grey parts to them which was a good change from the perfect female main character and the bad boy.
I enjoyed that we got both Axel and Cassidy POVs, Axel was very tough and had lots of walls up in the beginning but as the book went on you could see a softer side to him when it came to Cassidy. And Cassidy who was set in her ways and didn’t think life could get better or that she needed anyone else in her life end up growing her family by five more and became a little tougher.
As it is a mafia romance there also some action and thrills. We also find out who really offed the mayor.
While there will be more books in the series, this did end in a HEA for Cassidy and Axel.

Axel is definitely in my top 10 just woah 🥵
The beginning had me hooked the plot had the suspense starting from the first chapter.
The spice didn’t come in until like half way through the book but once it did dang was it good. I loved that the plot of the book was the main focus but the spice was thrown in at just the right time and it was hot but it didn’t last forever like some books do. I still gave it 5 🌶️ because the spice that is there is definitely worth it
The flow of the book was seem less. It’s a duel pov but it works so well with this book, you aren’t re reading what happened in the last chapter from a different pov but you are at the same time I don’t know how she did it but it worked!
There was a twist a little over halfway and it had me not breathing, I was speed reading trying to find out what happens next. Then another one a little while later and what?! But the events after were such touch her and ☠️ vibes and I’m here for it!
The story between Axel and Cassidy is perfect. He’s tough and moody with everyone else but she makes him melt. Axel gives Cassidy more confidence to be outspoken. They fit together so perfect. And their relationship is I think every book womens dream!!

Cassidy is a damn good defense Attorney in NY. She has wanted to be a lawyer since her parents passed away. Being a lawyer takes up a lot of your time which was taking a toll on her relationship. She was excited to finally catch a break after she just won, one of her hardest cases. Which is why Axel Bonanno only wanted her to defend him when he found himself in some trouble.
Ax is one of the notorious five, a mafia leader that runs New York. He is known for his illegal activities but he was not the one to murder the mayor.. he needs Cassie to proof is innocence.
As soon as Axle and Cassidy met they both felt the strong chemistry. But obviously a criminal and a lawyer can't become a thing.. could they?

Double Standards was a great beginning to the series. Not only did it give us the love story of Axel and Cassie, but it also introduced us to the heads of the five families who make up the Notorious Five.
Cassie is an attorney who finds herself defending Axel when he was framed for a mùrdər he didn't commit. Axel was immediately taken by her. Even though the chemistry between them was undeniable, Cass fought it for as long as she could, in part due to her inner struggle of being an attorney who's supposed to uphold the law and falling in love with a man who breaks the law for a living. Hence, Double Standards.
I loved seeing both MCs in action, Cassie in court, and Axel with his mafia shıt, as well as the interactions with all the side characters who I can't wait to see more of in the rest of the series.

This was such a good mafia romance! I originally got intrigued by the cover to this book because it is so steamy! The synopsis was also super intriguing and I’m really glad I picked up this book because it was super interesting! I love the story and I love the relationship between Axel and Cassie. The tension between the two is crazy and their individually such complicated and interesting characters with a lot of depth, which I really loved. I also found the story super engaging throughout; I was hooked from the very beginning. I am super excited that this is an interconnected series and will definitely be reading the four next books!

Wow oh wow! What a way to start of the series. I was recommended this series from a friend and I dived right in. Sophie Dyer does not disappoint in her writing.
Axel and Cassie are couple goals. I loved the development of their relationship. At the start I was kind of annoyed with Axel cause he seemed like a bit of a douche. However, he definitely grew on me. To me, he fell first and I absolutely adore when the man falls first. He wasn't standoffish about his feelings. Even though he didn't say the words I could feel them through his actions.
I honestly can't wait to read the rest of the series. I will be patient in my reading but there was something about Hunter which makes me want to read all about his story. However, he is part 4, so I will wait and read in order.
Overall, this is a book and series I would recommend to everyone I possibly can. I loved it! You will not regret reading this book.

I love some dark mafia romance and this book delivered 10-fold. I loved Cassie and Axel characters. They are complete opposites in almost every way. Cassie is a confident, strong and sassy criminal defense attorney and Axel is a possessive, broody, dark mob boss and one of New Yorks “Notorious Five” who is going on trial for the murder of the mayor.
This book is suspenseful, action packed, steamy and funny at times. I liked the world the author created, and I loved how we got to meet all the men in the Notorious Five since you get a good idea of who they are for the rest of the series. It makes you more invested to see where each character goes.
I can't wait to check out these other books in her series, if this is only book one, I can't wait to see how the plots thicken for the rest of the group.

Cassie and Axel are complete opposites. Cassie is a defense attorney. Axel is the leader of a mafia family. Their pull towards each other should not be something they give in to, but who are they to deny the attraction.
There are certain expectations I have when I read a mafia romance. While this one is definitely more on the tame side, it still has all those components of a really good read. The ending left a little bit to be desired but seeing as this is a part of an interconnected series, I'm guessing Cassie and Axel's continued relationship can be seen throughout the other books.
This is definitely a good introductory mafia romance book. I would recommend for someone who has never read one or likes more romance, less mafia.

As a fan of mafia romances, I really enjoyed this crime/mafia romance. My favorite thing about them was how different they were from each other and I loved them so much. They are like milk and coffee, completely different but amazing together. As the author describes the plot and characters, the reader will believe in the love story. I like the author's use of language and style of writing. Hot, spicy, and risky, this book evokes all the emotions of an enjoyable Mafia romance. The reader sees that both characters are morally grey. I enjoyed their povs, how they developed during the story and their emotions during the moments that were very significant for the story. And also, the cover is so gorgeous.

Double Standards is a strong introduction into "The Notorious Five in New York City" and how these 5 mob family heads work together and fall in love.
We start with Axel, who is framed with murder, and his lawyer Cassidy, who learns everything isn't always black and white. The action starts at the very beginning and I was hooked! The buildup of their sexual tension is off the charts throughout the story and it works!! Ooh the spice!! Yummy! I just love the suspense throughout the book.
I'm so excited to learn about the rest of the characters and am looking forward to reading book 2!
If you like mafia romances, suspense, or just a good, spicy romance, I definitely recommend this book. ♥️

Double Standards by L. Hope was such a good book! I've read many mafia books before, but this one was different, and I really enjoyed it. The characters in this book were great, and I'm so excited to read the rest of the books in the series. Amazing job, L. Hope!
Axel and Cassie were very entertaining to read! I really enjoyed reading their story, and getting to know who they are as characters. Axel was not what I was expecting, but in such a good way. Cassie is a very independent, intelligent, and powerful woman that doesn't do well with people telling her what to do. I was pleasantly surprised by this book, and can't wait to get my hands on the next one!

I love a good mafia romance and this book didn't disappoint!!
It was full of strong characters, action, broody men, suspense and of course alittle spice.
Great storyline and world-building couldnt put the book down.
The characters where fantastic! The main two Axel and Cassidy WOW they are hot together the Chemistry between these two is on fire. The strawberry scene 😍.
Axel jeez i loved him with his touch her and die dark broody self but with a soft centre 🥰 Cassidy is a fantastic character she's strong, confident and independent.
I felt you got to know the rest of the notorious 5 and lexie quite well and i cant wait to read more about them in the series.
it is a slow burn and has a tame mafia storyline id definitely recommend this for a newbie to mafia or spice.

This book was an Awesome, Must Read, book. First time, I read her book. I pick this book up because of the cover and the Blub. This book was Awesome.. 💓 Axe and Cassie. This book caught my attention, from the first chapter. I couldn't put it down. This is the first book, in a a five book series. This book pull you in and keep you, on the edge of your seats, unto the end. You will be wondering , what will happen next. This book is instense, intriguing, slow burn, mafia romance, love these characters, spicy, bad boy, opposite attract, Spicy, action, and you name it , its there. Double Standards is the perfect introduction novel to The Notorious Five. Great plot, keeping you entertained from beginning to end while having a perfect amount of sizzle between Cassie and Axel to keep you blushing. I not only liked the main characters but also found the extra characters throughout the story to be interesting. For a Mafia romance, there was just the right amount of questionable acts by morally grey men. With the story leaning heavily on the love interests over the criminal activities.This is a pleasant surprise and adds a great flow to the story. I really enjoyed the balance it had between action and spice. I recommend this book to all my fellow mafia romance lovers. Axel will easily have you swooning for the bad boy type.

I have read many mafia series and I can already tell that this will definitely rank in my top mafia romance series. Louise did a fantastic job of showing the push and pull of Cassie and Axel as their two completely different worlds collide. This book definitely had the elements of what you want out of a mafia romance…action…suspense…and a whole lot of alpha male presence. Not to mention the spice level of this couple was too hot to handle!! This book grabbed your attention right from the start and took you on a ride you never wanted to get off of. I definitely look forward to reading more from the Notorious Five!!

Action, thrills, romance, and spicy copulations create a thoroughly enjoyable read! While Cassie and Axel’s story is sorted on this book, there are a few things left unanswered, so I patiently away the next book in this series!!

Mafia Romance at its Finest!!
The chemistry between Cassie and Axel is absolutely palpable from the very beginning! I love how protective Axel is over Cassie and how Cassie doesn’t let him rattle her (much)!
She’s a phenomenal lawyer making sure he doesn’t go down for a crime he’s being framed for by the district attorney and he is one of the Notorious 5 mafia men running the city behind the scenes.
The DA causes issues from start to finish but these two have a connection so strong, it doesn’t cause too much of an issue.
This is part one of a series and I can’t wait to see what happens with the next member of the Notorious Five!

Cassie and Axel are amazing characters. The book hooked me from the start. Seeing this sassy FMC stand up to the MMC who was in the mafia was amazing, and the fact that he couldn't even do anything against her for the way she was talking back to him. I love that he just couldn't stay away from her, and would purposefully push her buttons to get her to sass him just so he could call her on it. I enjoyed the book so much I've already downloaded the next two in the series so that I can read them too. Looking forward to how the rest of the 5 play out in their stories.
