ˋ°•*⁀➷ pre-read (nov 25/25). omgggggg!!!!!!! i saw this recommendation on tik tok (the book is called dr jiang is pregnant with his nemesis's child) and i immediately have to read it. i'm in the biggest slump of my life since finishing solo leveling and nothing has been able to keeping my attention. the tropes from what i've seen are: ⟡ rivals to lovers ❤️🔥 ⟡ mpreg but in a realistic way 👀 ⟡ doctor mcs who are coworkers 🩺 ⟡ and slow burn!! ✨ what's not to love about that????
Surprisingly very good. Translater did an amazing job. One star down for the nationalism... But that's really hard to avoid in Chinese novels. I don't like nationalism in anything including my own culture. To me, it's dangerous. Also for the translator using the R word 3 times.
But yeah. The author dared to address things that many other Chinese authors do not. Such as bisexuality, sexism, even gender. All in a positive light. It was incredibly emotional and surprisingly deep for a blurb that seems deceptively comedic. All in all, enjoyable.
When reading books from another culture I often have to remind myself that I am only a guest. I don't know if I'm allowed to make judgement calls on a different culture. Especially when I don't know the language or nuances. And especially when my own culture is frankly just as guilty. I've been reading danmei for a while now thanks to the volunteers who selflessly translate these books for our enjoyment. I'm grateful for the experience to try and experience stories from another culture who enjoy the same things as I do.
Incoherent rambles, sorry. Those are my thoughts for now.
I like the middle part and towards the end of the book to I loved how I'm seeing the progress of Jiang xu and Shen fangyu frenemies turns into romance, I love how they handle Mpreg on this book, I feel like I'll think about this book every now and then but for now it's just a well written romance that managed to quench what I'm craving for at the moment. I tried to read the extra but I feel like it just kinda dragged on from that.
English Title: Dr. Jiang Is Pregnant With His Nemesis’s Child
What to expect: 📍Rivals to lovers 📍Bantering 📍Doctor MCs 📍Coworkers 📍Forced proximity 📍Realistic mpreg 📍Slow burn 📍Drunken mistake
First of all, I need to highlight the way author handled the #mpreg part, it was honestly mind-blowing. The most realistic setting I have read, with MCs pregnancy being a once in a million mutation that could put his life at risk and needed surgical intervention. The serious and professional tone with every aspect of the pregnancy process, childbirth include, made it even better.
I also loved the realistic approach to MCs reactions and feelings. Him being a doctor helped with the medical explanation for his condition, but the impact an unexpected pregnancy did to his life was there, as well as the doubts of taking the child to term or opting for abortion (this could be triggering for some people because it was mentioned a few times at the beginning, and it was considered very seriously as the best option for a while because of the health implications). MC had to question a lot of things, his gender perception was one of the main ones. In this subject, the book offered very interesting and helpful messages about gender, sexuality and family roles.
The world setting was very close to modern China even if the country's name was never mentioned. Author let a few controversial ideas out, such as the lack of legal rights for homosexual couples, and in this hypothetical case the rights of their biological child.
Both MCs being doctors (gynecologist) meant that a lot of their patients and their respective stories are mentioned. They all get well at the end because the book keeps the mood quite optimistic but you still get the details and not everyone's likes to read that (they mostly do surgery for complicated pregnancies and cancer).
For the couple you can expect an idiots to lovers with a slight slow burn, and a great growth with their communication and dynamic by the end of the book. The had a cute baby that you can enjoy during extra chapters.
PS: There was a side lesbian couple that was pleasantly unexpected 👏🏻.
Me encantó.
I can't believe I had a review written and just lost it all >.< GRIEF
Oh well, it's actually 4.5/5 stars for this one. I LOVE IT SO MUCH YEET
For starters, while I love when children are part of Danmei stories, I was never a huge fan of MPreg since it's usually done together with the ABO trope, which I dislike reading, so it never really grew on me. This novel popped up as a recommendation and I found it intriguing that while it is MPreg, it's also situated in a world with circumstances similar to ours, which really got my attention.
I love this novel, I really do. I really like how well the author prepared it, how well everything is explained and how the plot is so well done that MPreg actually seems to have its logic in here. MPreg is something which is inherently nonsensical in a biological context, but here the author tries to create a biological explanation for it and it's really well done and researched.
I love these characters and I love their relationship. There's no one more perfect for each other than Jiang Xu and Shen Fangyu. Only they are equivalent in skill, only they are the best competitor for each other, only they can trust each other that much, and only they can love each other as much as they do. I love their love. It's so beautiful how they reach the point of loving each other, it's not rushed, it's not because of guilty conscience, it's purely because they find in each other their most favourite person. AAAAAAAAA I LOVE THEM SO MUCH HELP. I know some people don't enjoy the slower pace at which their relationship develops, but trust me, it's WORTH IT!!
I also really like the side characters, and how the plot is constructed. There are no fillers, everything is worth reading and everything complements the story.
Just…read it! I enjoyed it way more than I was expecting to and I'm pretty sure it'll say on my list of favourites this year ~
Well written modern danmei stories. Also written from the point of view of two adults who work as obstetrician and gynecologist.
So this MC and ML had a rival relationship and then got pregnant. They experience conflict with adult-style thinking. There's no such thing as lying like a teenager or faltering in communication due to bad traits. So MC and ML have time to interact more intimately and communicate more smoothly.
Modern life background, the working world of medicine and common views on homosexuality. Obstetrician and gynecologist and the scientific terms and facts were accurate!
This was so fun to read, their bickering is so funny! Shen Fangyu always taking care of his little angry wife, he is so good.
The little blind date trying to shoot her shot after seeing Jiang Xu’s face only to start fujoshing out after Shen Fangyu shows up full of vinegar, hahah she is so real.
The way half of Shen Fangyu’s roommates were interested in Jiang Xu is so funny. The way he immediately invited them out to show off his relationship with Jiang Xu, he is so silly!
I just want to say Tang Ke is such a good friend, the way he is always there for Jiang Xu and wants the best for his friend. It was also sweet that despite not being so close to Shen Fangyu, he still offered some comforting words after sfy’s parents kicked him out after telling them his partner was a man.
I was a bit worried because I saw a review talking about the nationalism at the end of the novel, but it’s literally just Jiang Xu wanting his country to gain more recognition in the biomedical community. Like I feel like thats a completely normal thing to want. As someone studying in this field, I agree that healthcare practices should not be working solely for financial gain, so jx’s anger towards a country that is like that is understandable. I guess there were a couple comments of trust the country, and it will save you, but those comments were from government officials, so for them to say something like that wouldn’t be out of character.
Anyways, I am so glad that jx’s pregnancy operation went well. After the last one, I was so worried about complications with his as well.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this, it was super fluffy and it was interesting to see actual medical terms included in the novel. Really loved sfy and jx’s relationship, it was nice to see how much trust they have in each other and the comfort they bring each other!

This was an amazing Rivals to Lovers book. 😻 It is about two doctors who have been competing with each other for more than ten years that ends up falling in love. The story starts with both MCs pursuing the same woman when they find out that the woman is already in a relationship (a lesbian relationship). Trying to nurse their heartbreak, they somehow end up challenging each other to drink and sleeping with each other. 🤭 Dr. Jiang quietly leaves the next morning and was ready to leave it behind before he realises that he’s pregnant.🫃🏻 He has to reconcile the fact that he can get pregnant and the baby’s other father is his nemesis. Dr. shen finds it hard to believe at first but they both reach into the conclusion of being responsible adults and raising the child as a family. Thus, begins their slow burn of falling in love with each other. It’s really sweet and combined with their past flashbacks, it really sets up nice picture of how they’ve both been in each other’s lives. Their rivalry was the most important thing in their life and the closed proximity makes them fall in love slowly and strongly. The book is also heavy on pregnancy and goes through all the months which I found fun to read . Most of the time in mpreg, they skip these parts, but I’m glad how the pregnancy and the baby was an integral part of their story. It’s low in angst and lots of good parts with glood plot & pacing. 💯 recommend 🙂↕️
This is such a bittersweet and intricately written story. It's a mistake to go into this book only expecting a fluffy enemies to parents to lovers plotline. This story is about an unplanned pregnancy's repurcussions on two highly-competent rival obgyn doctors, and the story of how they're falling in love with each other while trying to navigate this strange waters. Male pregnancy is not normal in this world. In fact, a lot of this book is about dealing with the mortality rate of the new phenomenon of male pregnancy. But it is written in such a tender and emotional way, with two characters you can't help but fall in love with due to how strong their personalities are. The main characters' chemistry is absolutely amazing and you get to go along for the ride as they slowly but surely fall in love. Expect a lot of emotional turmoil. Expect a beautiful love story of devotion and determination and solemnity. But most of all, expect a good story that will keep you on tenterhooks, making you unable to fall asleep for HOURS past your bed time. Yep.
Btw I'm still a bit miffed that there were no mentions of transgender or intersex people but that's just the usual, and the way the author has written this was without judgement on transgender and intersex people, which can't be said for a whole lot of other mpreg books. So I'm keeping this at five stars but there's definitely room for improvement. It's not a perfect book but honestly, it's pretty great.
Notes: I listed this under "intellectual fiction" tag despite the impossibility of the scenario, mostly because I am a perimenopausal woman, and this novel basically discussed so many issues that biological women go through during their reproductive and post-reproductive phases. The protagonists are OBGYNs so there's a lot of technical medical jargon, and I'm happy that the author did her research well. I saw a complaint by one of the reviewers, and it was about the feminist tones that were supposedly typical of BGs. See, this kind of novel with that kind of tones are super rare for danmei, where a huge chunk of the fandom are composed of BL fetishists instead of being actually concerned for the welfare of women and marginalized societies in real life. While I wouldn't list this story among my favorites, I did read the side story over at JJWXC, and hope to see more from this author. The reason why I'm a danmei fan is because majority of the stories I read have something to teach me (e.g. in architecture, social sciences, history, etc.), and there's always tangential learning. I appreciate a danmei title that makes me Google for more information about the field being discussed. In this case, it's obstetrics and gynaecology.
This novel is now listed as one of my favorite of all time.
The love is natural, both men are matured however, you always act childish with the person you love and that’s what made me love Shen Fangyu more and the way Jiang Xu put him in place is too funny.
Now in medical, the author is either in a medical field or made the necessary research to complete this novel not just the romantic side but all those scientific talk as a doctor. And I learn a lot of terms.
I really did not expect to love this novel so much. All I wish is that maybe someday someone will cook me tiger skin pepper for a lifetime.
3.5/5 Entretenido!
Honestly, I wasn't expecting much when I started reading this danmei but I was pleasantly surprised that it was pretty good. The MC and ML couple really compliments each other but I must say, Shen Fangyu is the best character in this book and I love the medical theme/aspects!
It didn't make it to 4-stars even though I like it alot because there's a little too many *unnecessary* dramas between the couple that kind of annoys me. But at least this couple communicate well with each other and I love them for that.
I recommend this book to any danmei lovers out there. :)
I never thought I would enjoy this book, it's so unexpected because I FELL IN LOVE WITH IT!. esp sheng fangyu, I need my husband to be like him ON GOD. the tension between the couple was just chefs kiss but also the story itself was so interesting and it had a fucking phenomenal plot.
I liked how the male pregnancy in this book was explained (even though medically I dont think it rlly checks out), but the tension of doing the surgery, telling the parents, the way the relation develops was just amazing to read - a proper 10/10 from me
It is rivals to lovers, slice of life with mpreg and it is overall amazing!
I honestly enjoyed emotional depth it had, they didn't just get together but slowly formed a connection that was obviously there because of their years of rivalry!
I enjoyed how the medical aspect- the stress of work, how the medical staff goes around- how demanding the job can be was highlighted in quite realistic way!
The mpreg was somehow reasonable too, there was fantasical approach but rather explained through pseudo-science (?Ithink!)
Overall really fun read that I'd totally recommend 💜
Well written with good plot. Mc and ML have a really standard mature relationship and they do communicate even though it is a slow burn romance. The novel also portrays the real life interactions between parents and child and also doctors and patients . I would give 5 stars but in the middle of the novel, the plot gets unnecessarily dragged with extra events so I got bored . Overall, it was such a fun read.
mE PEGÓ MUCHÍSIMO LES JURO.
This could have easily been a five stars because it funny and the science although imaginative made enough sense to be bought in the story context. But the author ruined my enjoyment everytime she started her rhetoric of we good and the best and foreigners are bad. You can be patriotic and proud without having to put anyone down.

Yep, that’s the name of the book. 😁 Loved it. It’s a Chinese MM medical romance (web novel) and the pregnant issue was handled extremely well and very…realistic lol. I would have given it 5 stars but it was a sunshine/grumpy situation and the the grumpy one was too overly grumpy for my liking
OMG this was such a gem! I was not expecting anything serious by the summary, but this was so much more nuanced and well thought out than I ever imagined. So sweet and funny.
