In my opinion, this is a book that anyone who is thinking about or is already involved in any type of social media MUST read. It is the basics of what you need to know in order to promote, publish and access anything online. From yahoo groups to nings Content Nation takes you step by step on where the most accessible places to publish anything are. You get an indepth understanding on the power social media has on our everyday lives. I really like how John Blossom has laid this book out. It is very accessible to anything I needed to know. I found this book to be extremely informative and a book that should be on EVERY persons bookshelf. I highly recommend this book in the ever changing world of social media!

Content Nation is an extremely thorough overview of the nuances and vagaries of social media. More than just an explanation of social media ("What is Twitter," etc.), Content Nation offers real world examples of how individuals, companies, politicians, and others have become content publishers through social media. If you are looking for a social media overview, we highly recommend this book. It will leave you reeling with ideas for your own social media campaigns.
On the other hand, this is not the book for you if you want very specific instruction about how to use certain social media platforms. And for good reason - by the time the book hit its second printing, Blossom would have had to update every section. Social media changes too fast for print!

Reread this seminal book from 2010 to see how much our media landscape has changed in the past decade. The answer: more things than not. The author did a good job back then finding experts to predict old media, new media and how we consume them. Sequel?

This book was twice as long as it needed to be. While it had some good insights as to how social media has become a vehicle for altruistic human motives, it largely fails at it reads too much like a manifesto rather than a sober history of the rise of social media.

Why isn't this on some top 10 books of the year list? Shimmering with intelligence and humanity, its voice cuts through the clutter to what social media is, and could be. I think this is a defining, pivotal treatise - pretty awesome read.

I liked the ending in particular, as the author attempts to predict the future of social media, and what it means for our species.
