This chronicle of ghastly frights from the Motor City is not for the faint of heart. Founded on the legend of the Nain Rouge, Detroit has haunted hotspots aplenty, each with its own blood-curdling tale. Music from pianos that play by themselves and crying apparitions echo throughout The Whitney mansion. Beginning at the time of its construction, the Leland Hotel has been the site of an unusually high number of murders, suicides, and freak accidents. It has even been described as Detroit's portal to Hell. Various shadowy figures have been spotted darting throughout the former Detroit Police 6th Precinct building, including a mysterious boy. Join Michigan-based author and paranormal investigator Nicole Beauchamp as she leads you down some of Detroit's darkest corridors and into its tragic past.
This is by far one of the best books I have ever read concerncing haunted places in Michigan. What sets this book apart from others which cover haunted locations around Detroit is that it doesn't merely ramble on about historical facts with a few weak accounts thrown in. Haunted Detroit combines the history and witness accounts of local hauntings in such a way that presents a well written, hair-raising story of each place that leaves the reader wanting to know more or even visit the places discussed.
Ok, this book is perfect for spooky season! My Michigan born & raised heart absolutely loved this chilling read! I live an hour away from Detroit, and I go there fairly often. All of the legends and stories in this book were new to me! I never knew any spooky stories about Detroit and this book had me completely fascinated by it all, I read the entire thing in one single sitting! I really enjoyed how it didn't read like a history book or text book. At the start of some of the stories I was like "ok, I need to go check this place out!" But after delving in further I started thinking maybe not. 😆 Each story was super interesting and some of them gave me the chills!
If you're interested in some good ghost stories and/or learning about haunted cities like Detroit this spooky season, then you should definitely check this one out! And check out Haunted Bay City Michigan while you're at it too!
I enjoyed learning all these creepy things about Detroit that I never knew before!
If you love history and paranormal this book is for you!! Nicole is an amazing author and you won’t be disappointed in this book and her other book as well! I highly recommend the book and you’ll enjoy it!
I'm not terribly interested in the paranormal but I like books about Detroit/Michigan history so I was interested in some of the settings. Some chapters were better than others but it was a quick read and appears to be well researched.
Enjoyed reading about Detroit paranormal activity and the history of some of the structures. This was a good mix of both. It makes me want to do a little exploring!
