I've been looking for this anthology ever since I heard a short story by Anne Stuart about a certain High Sheriff of Huntingdon that she based in Alan Rickman's performane as Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood Prine of Thieves was a part of it.

Her story the only one of read and I'm happy to say I enjoyed it very much. It's called The High Sheriff of Huntingdon and it tells the story of of the evil, always dressed in black, Sheriff and his convent raised wife who he married for her dowry and suprinsigly discovers has quite a bad temper. The story also includes the Sheriff's witch of a mother, who is actually not that bad and really only want a grandson. In the end Sheriff is still convinced he is quite bad but his is not as sure. It was a wonderful little story and I was sorry to see it end. Also the premise would have given a great full lenght novel...

Mom and I will go through each story. Over all though the seemed to be good and did hold theme of love and honor through out them all.
Baragain Bride by Stella Cameron had a good story but the character developed seemed a bit lacking, however the characters them selves were strong. If that makes any sense. Basically they were great characters it just seems that the romance did not develop as sort of happened in stages. Good read though.
The Bride of Wildcat Purchase by Judith E. French was a crazy sauce romance. Though the romance development was great if again not a little crazy. Basically are heroine get sent over to American under false pretense and her and the hero lue to each other for the first half of the story, almost dye, and than start to fall in love for last bit. It was good, but where they left the realtionship with the child was a little annoying.
Store-Bought Woman by Linda Lael Miller seemed to be the grittiest one of them all. It was about a woman who wanted to be a mail order bride and found life full of surprises that she didn’t now if she could deal with. In the end the choices she makes are very adult and not easy one, or a better explanation being they are not black and white.
Lastly ( and yes the one we came for) was The High Sheriff of Huntington by Anne Stuart it was over all a good read with an amazing wonderful dark hero. The mother rape? scene was a little weird, no rape happened, and seems more a product of it time, though it is true the mother would drug brides so their husband could rape/get them with child, though it was not common either. Beside that though the story was great and makes mom and me look forward to reading more Anne Stuart.
Over all the anotholgy was good, and as always found a new author, but this one may have just been worth just buying the ebook copy of The High Sheriff of Huntington if it were still in print.

It is rare to find a volume that contains 4 books by 4 different authors and have every single book in the collection quite wonderful! Kudos to Stella Cameron, Judith E. French, Linda Lael Miller and Anne Stewart for these excellent books. Although published in 1993 the stories are timeless since they were written of brides from centuries long, long ago. The stories were exciting and Linda Lael Miller's was so touching it brought tears to my eyes. These stories are just good old fashioned romance filled with passion and great plots.

The rating is for Stuart's High Sheriff of Huntingdon which she wrote inspired (weren't we all?) by Alan Rickman's marvelous, scene-stealing turn as the villainous Sheriff in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. Really fun story from a really fun inspiration!

I loved Store-Bought Woman by Linda Lael Miller, I didn't like The High Sheriff of Huntingdon, and the other two stories were ok. Anthologies are good because they give you a chance to read new authors, but the novella I really liked was by the one author whose books I regularly buy.

I read this for the Anne Stuart novella (which was based off of Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. Or specifically...the Sheriff of Nottingham in that movie). It was totally ridiculously fun. I've never read Anne Stuart before but now it looks like I have to start, huh?
