A group of researchers led by Dr. Emmanuel Hernandez gains a permit to visit the quarantined Ilha da Morte to prove either the truth or the fallacy of the whispered rumors of a giant lizard that lurks within the dark, unexplored jungles. One problem after another plagues their mission, starting with their boat sinking during the landing, followed immediately by the loss of their satellite phone and the death of a team member. The expedition, now cut off from the world, takes a more dangerous turn when hooting and roaring in the night reveals not only that the animal they seek is real, but that there’s more than one. And they come closer each night. The creatures soon prove to be the least of the team’s problems after encountering another group intent on keeping the island–and everything on it–secret from the rest of the world, even if they have to kill to accomplish it.
Though perhaps a hair longer than it should be, it was an entertaining adventure with a surprising amount of heart.
I do have to admit that I didn't understand wow our characters missed that a certain person was being snaky. It was way too obvious and in-your-face, but aside from that, the characters were engaging.
Our critters are very dangerous and a lot of fun to read.
in some ways it was like I was reading one of my all time favorite books Jurassic Park, and every time there was interaction with the dinosaurs I could actually hear Ian Malcolm saying must go faster ( 😂😂😂),While it wasn't exactly like it ,it was still good and interesting in the ways it was different, and that made it enjoyable for me to just set back and read , plus I loved the draws it had of the dinosaurs.
I received a copy of this book directly from the author/publisher in exchange for an honest review.
I desperately wanted to like this book. You simply can’t understand how much I love dinosaurs… but at 4% into Dino Crisis by Chris Liberty, I was ready to give up.
To be fair, I can’t judge this book on its plot, characters, or a myriad of other important factors. What I can, and will judge this book on, is the writing itself.
It was awful.
The narrative was dripping with over-done description that made it seem overly dramatic. Each sentence was complex to the point of making it seem as if the author was trying their best to fit as many descriptors as possible into each line. It wasn’t subtle. The absolute worst of which, was the character introductions, which floundered in during an actin-packed escape from a sinking boat, ruining the pace. The author dragged the reader through introduction after introduction, each complete with name, occupation, a description of their hair (which seemed to always include how said hair defied the weather in some manner) and then a litany of physical description. It was so tedious and obvious that it was physically painful to read.
So, I gave up. I wish I could say more about this book – but I simply couldn’t get past the rudimentary writing. This book is badly in need of an editor. Maybe the story is fantastic, maybe the characters are full of depth and well-spoken… but if your writing makes it impossible to sink into the story and get to those things, something is wrong, and it needs to be addressed.
Take one off-limits island, one scientific expedition, and a handful of dinosaurs. What could possibly go wrong?! "Stranded" was a whole heap of fun to read. There's plenty of gore (as you'd expect), a good plot, interesting characters, and a solid setting. The writing feels a little bit as if the author was trying to write for the audience, rather than telling the story his way. Looking forward to the next book.
My thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley. This review was written voluntarily and is entirely my own, unbiased, opinion.
I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for a review. It was action-packed and the dinosaurs were well depicted. A little too bloodthirsty for my taste, but the dinosaurs weren't the worst foes on the island. I'm off to read book 2 now as I really do want to know what happens next!
This was a fun and exciting read. I thought that the characters were well thought out. There was some fighting of dinosaurs and other people stranded on the island.
I received a copy of this book from the author and this is my honest and unsolicited review.
I got this in exchange for an honest review. I have nothing to do with the author and I've never heard of him before this book.
As a sci fi fan, I am always looking for that next great author, with a compelling vision, to take me somewhere fantastic and fascinating. Chris Liberty's novel, Dinocrisis, brought me to Ilha Da Morte for a roller coaster ride of imagination, that kept me reading all night.
Take the suspense and scientific brilliance of Michael Chrichton's "Jurassic Park", mix in the non stop action and memorable characters of Conan Doyle's "Lost World" and mix in a bit of the mystery of Ray Bradbury's "Sound of Thunder" and you will have a feel for Dinocrisis. This clever and original novel is a one sitting read for fans of this genre.
It all begins with a lost expedition, a mysterious project gone terribly wrong, and DINOSAURS. The author's talent makes all the terror and wonder of these magnificent, primeval creatures something you will finally meet and never forget. The story hits the ground running from page one and keeps the pace going with snappy dialogue and non-stop action. I love the characters, they are engaging and well developed. But don't get too attached to all of them, because, there are dinosaurs, a lot of them! The plot transforms from a fight for survival on a hostile, volcanic island into a desperate attempt to stop a dangerous group, working on the mysterious Project Timeline. What is their ultimate agenda and why are there dinosaurs on this island?
Dinocrisis is that perfect blend of suspense, science, heart pounding action and just plain fun! This was a great addition to my sci fi collection and one of the best dinosaur books I've read. I recommend this for the permanent library of all readers who love a well-written, character driven adventure story!
3.5 stars. Honestly this book reeked of the screenplay of Jurassic Park 3, right down to the dino with the sail on its back and the bunker for the bad guys. However, I love me some sci-fi dino books so I did enjoy the story, though for the ending on a cliffhanger (sorry, spoiler) the book was much too long.
Emmanuel Hernandez is a renowned toxinologist who is on the quest for his next cure. He gets permission to visit a forbidden island off the coast of Brazil in hopes of discovering his next big cure. No one has set foot on the island for 60 years, or so they are lead to believe. When Emmanuel and his team land, they get more than they bargained for when they meet feathery velociraptors and other creatures that should have perished long ago. While not created in a lab like JP's dinos, these are brought in through a portal on the island from prehistoric times. And the people responsible for the portal don't want to share their technology... or their island. What began as a hunt for rare toxin cures turns into a fight for life between prehistoric lizards and everyday bad guys. And everyone wants you dead one way or another.
I could have done without the illustrations in this book. They were quite poorly drawn and honestly added nothing to the plot line. While there is research supporting that raptors indeed did have feathers, the more they were mentioned the more I kept picturing them being attacked by big turkeys...and the pictures didn't help. I felt like this book could have been better with some more research and scientific consultations and when compared to JP it feels like an amateur attempt at re-creating that. OK but not enough to make me want to finish the next books to learn the final conclusion.
My thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC. My opinions in this review are my own.

Dr. Emmanuel Hernandez was in charge of the expedition to find a giant lizard on Ilha da Morte just off the coast of Brazil and in quarantine by the Brazilian Navy. The name had changed when a volcano erupted killing over 10,000 people and every living creature on the island in 1965. They had left the coast of Brazil in the midst of the storm and the boat was blown onto the rocks of the island with the bottom being torn out. One student José fell on the rocks and injured his head and they couldn't stop the bleeding. There were three professors and seven students and they had no way off the island and no way to contact anyone to tell them the trouble they were in. They found it in land clearing where they set up camp and José died. They buried him in a shallow grave at the edge of the clearing. Some of the students swore they had seen dinosaurs though no one believed them. One of the professors finally saw dinosaurs and he was believed. The questions to be answered are how many dies and if they find a safer place to camp and find a way to let someone know that they are in trouble. To answer these questions read the book. The book ends in a cliffhanger so that when the next book comes out you have to read the first book or you going to spoil the end of the book. It's a good book...
I got a pre-release copy in exchange for a fair and honest review. I have no affiliation with the publishing company or the author. I finished it in two days. The book was well-written, I liked most of the characters, especially Emmanuel, Tex, and Hannah. The atmosphere from the get go was dark and ominous which set up a great mental picture. The dinosaurs were savage but nowhere near as evil as the other group Emmanuel's team goes up against.
While this won't take the place of Jurassic Park, it's silly to think it would. This has none of the interesting science that JP had, but it doesn't try to take away the crown from that book. Perhaps book 2 will do that, I cannot say since it's not released. This novel was a real page turner and I highly recommend it to anyone who likes dinosaur, suspense, and action adventure books.
Thank you voracious readers only for providing an ARC for a honest review.

Since I have the interests of a 10 year old boy anything to do with dinosaurs has my attention. Usually though when reading books about dinosaurs it just involves a scary T-rex and a lot of running.
This book though is so much more then that, you actually have many different types of dinosaurs (carnivores & herbivores) and they're so well written and researched. The writing style is fast paced and intriguing. The world building was great, the charecters were well thought out. It did end on a cliff hanger which is not a deal breaker for me because I'm actually excited to jump back into the story with the next book and I can't wait!
I have never read anything by this author before, the cover caught my attention as I’ve loved dinosaurs for as long as I can remember. This expedition seems to have been cursed from the get-go, which only served to make it more intriguing to me. It’s an interesting plot and there is no shortage of action, adventure, suspense and danger in this plot. I enjoyed the fast pace of the story and the author did a great job in building the world and the characters. It does end in a cliffhanger, I tend not to like those when they are sprung on me, I much rather have the author tell me this important fact in the blurb. That being said I am looking forward to book 2. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Don't let your 10 yr old read this book. The story itself was fast and exciting. The cursing, not so much. The characters were well written and each one relatable to. There was a real twist with Tex, but I will let you find out for yourself. Grief can morph into madness and science and dinosaurs never mix well, no matter the reason. There is an element of revenge mixed up in the theme of this novel. Each character finds his or her strengths and weaknesses. Really hate it is a cliffhanger, but that is how money is made with Amazon Kindle authors. I would love to read the continuation of this stoty but I don't know if I can stomach the f word thru another book. Would have given it 5 stars were it not for that.
I was loving this book and whilst it isn't Jurrasic Park it is a very close second in my opinion, it was fast paced and very enjoyable. The characters were well defined and I felt every one of their emotions and loved the chases through the Jungle. I have only one problem which is the book ended on a cliffhanger and I would have liked to have been warned of that as I would have waited for the next book before reading. Other than that it deserves every one of the 4* I gave it. Thank you to Voracious for the copy of the book.
Very fun book, a real page turner. I've always loved Jurassic Park, and I was very happy with this book. The writing and characters drew me in, and just when you think dinosaurs are the worst things Emmanuel's group faces, another group of people pop up intent on killing them. I finished this book in a little over a day. I have to confess, I didn't think the story would amount to much, since I've read many dino books that are pretty awful. This one excelled at keeping my attention. If you're a fan of dino books like I am, give this one a reading. You won't be disappointed.
Fun book. It's not long and it filled in my weekend really well after I watched Jurassic Park. I also watched Jurassic World The Lost Kingdom, and this book was a LOT better than that movie. If you wanna get the awful tasted of that last Jurassic World movie out of your system, I'd suggest reading Dino Crisis. It was fun, had great action, lots of dinosaurs and had the vibe of Jurassic Park meets Lost.
In reality, I am a 59-year-old woman but I still like things like a young boy (haha). Things like dinosaurs. I am thinking it is because I raised 2 boys (no girls) and they taught me what fun is. So I loved this book! It would be so awesome to see a live dinosaur, at least until they try to eat you. Great story, well-written and I loved the characters.

I love dinosaurs and many of the Jurassic Park movies and books. So, when I noticed this book, it caught my interest. I must admit that I was a little disappointed. The writing is certainly not up to Michael Crichton standards. It was kind of a bad remake of a couple of the movies.
It was an interesting and fun read, nonetheless. I am not certain that I liked any of the characters, except Jose and Dr. Hernandez. There are the usual personality conflicts and terrible lizards abound. There are the bad guys and the good guys. And some really bad guys.
I liked the book, but not sure I would recommend it to anyone with a disclaimer. Something like, “It was pretty good, but don’t expect marvelous literature.”
I want to thank NetGalley and Liberty Books for forwarding to me a copy of this book for me to read and review. The opinions expressed here are solely my own.
So much fun- exactly what fans of Jurassic Park long for.
A team of scientists venture to a forbidden island with a permit to conduct some toxinocology research. And, while they’re there, they don’t mind investigating rumours of a Quetzacoatl sighting.
Unfortunately, there's too much pep talk and too many 'witty' retorts. Theres a lot of explaining the same thing (ex. why everyone feels guilty about having to go to war with the others) and too much repeating information. There's too much grief when I just want to read about action and dinosaur attacks. And I'd love to hear more about the Dino Crisis video game.
