Since the sequel of Skyeholm is almost out, I wanted to write a note to readers. I wanted to say thank you for picking up Skyeholm and taking the time to read and review it.
It means the world to me that people are interested to read about the dark romantic world I created for John and Skye. I wrote this series when I was going through the hardest time in my life (moved across the country, losing my job to the pandemic, my mom suffering a heart attack, and my best friend passing away). Putting all my pain into this story is what helped heal me, and I hold this series very close to my heart. I can’t wait to see the your thoughts on The Masks of John Brooks when it comes out this April. Again, thank you so much💚!!

Skyeholm is a kidnapping crime thriller novel by Tamara Lynne that takes a very interesting turn while addressing the stockholm syndrome that Skye deals with. While it is engaging and we get to see the story from both Skye and John's perspective which is interesting, I feel that the writing could be better to allow the story to be more intense.
While Skye and John are good characters in their own right, Skye's friends are annoying and almost childlike so even though the situation that they're in is a tense one, they make it feel almost comical at times.
I do find the fact that John and Skye have this 'dream' connection which doesn't make sense when you start to read the book, but this was one of the things that kept me interested to know more. There's a lot of mental health issues covered in this book and while I'm no expert, if you are someone who suffers from illnesses like PTSD, I would like to know your thoughts on it.
The story of John and Skye is just beginning and there's going to be a sequel, but the way book one ended has left me worried for a lot of people!

I had the privilege of being an ARC reader for 'Skyholm',
I got 22pages into the story and really struggled to be suckered into the world.
In those 22pages, I really struggled to find out what the author was trying to convey to the reader.
By page 49, I felt very lost. I couldn't see the whole picture the other had been trying to tell up until this point. I didn't understand why the "bad guy" was holding everyone hostage when he really only needed 1 person, nor do I understand how the murder in the park or the children losing their mother related to the "bad guy" and the FMC.
I know the author mentions the characters are in their late 20/early 30s but damn, that dialogue is very teen like dialogue. I know the author specifically mentioned in the story "you'd think my friends were teenagers not 20/30 year olds" but yeah..I aboustely couldn't stand the dialogue.
The way the police were written, it seemed like the author believed cops have a typical 9-5 job and also, the media NEVER EVER announce a police office is under cover unless an investigation is over due to endangering the case.
If it wasn't for the promise of giving a review, I would've DNF'd this.
I wish Tamara Lynne the best of luck with her writing career but she's not an author for me.

3.5 keeps your attention and is a little quirky. The friends come off as super annoying and unsure why the skye was ever friends with them. John and sky have a weird connection that keeps you wanting to know more! I would still like to see just how far that goes and how they continue to grow as characters through the next book.
The only thing I was put off about was repetition. There seemed so be a bit much for me personally, things characters said or ideas being reinforced

MY MIND IS BLOWN. I’m awestruck, mindstruck, every f**king thing about me is STRUCK and my first question is, where has this book been my whole LIFE??!!
Yessss, I’m screaming (I don’t scream unless I love a book BUT Skyeholm was that good!) Boy, it had me widening my eyes, giggling like a maniac, smiling so widely and laughing. The first day I started, my roommate kept on giving me weird glances, like Nita, it's 4 am in the morning, aren’t you supposed to be sleeping? ERM, NO?
If you love romantic thrillers, captivity, humor, sweet, gentle yet possessive heroes who can burn the world down for their lovers, THEN THIS BOOK IS FOR YOU.
Is John a hunky, good cop turned bad boy? YES. Does he paint? YES. Did he kidnap our heroine, Skye and did it make me love him more? A THOUSAND YESES!
I’ll try not to give spoilers but John kidnapped Skye and her four friends, hiding them in the attic of his house. Why did he do this? He had been having dreams about Skye for years now and when he saw her, he knew he had to have her. (That’s right, my man was OBSESSED) Her friends being kidnapped as well was not his smartest move obviously.
Carrying on, John has to be the sweetest hero I’ve read in a while. When he was not the detective who carried all the weight of the world on his shoulders, he was the kindest soul to Skye. He was gentle with her despite his traumatic past. And Skye was perfect for him. She showed him the world was colorful and not as black and white as he thought. She even made him smile so hard and laugh loudly. Something that he never did.
One scene that lives rent free in my head was when he was so anxious to kiss Skye because of his PTSD to people touching him. And she comforted him in a soothing voice, “That’s not anxiety you’re feeling in your stomach. The feeling starts from your stomach. Then you feel it gripping onto your heart? Those are butterflies and I feel them too.”
ARGHHHH! Boy, I’ve never smiled so hard like I did while reading the scene. It was so cute and it was EVERYTHING. Honestly. And when John told his captives, he needed someone to pretend to be his girlfriend, I was like, wait wait?! What you tryna do mister? You trying to be sly and get our girl Skye?
Did I mention how many times I laughed so loudly? What Karrie said about little doll hands made me howl! And when she said, “I can seduce men from a distance.” I’m like, eyeroll, but do you, girl. To be frank, the only sensible people in Skye’s friend groups are Skye herself, Alexis and Miles, when he’s not being grumpy. Leslie was CRAAZZZYYY.
Anyways, again not giving any spoilers, but I know things are going to be crazy in book two. I just feel it!
I do have a question though: Why did Skye and her friends not overpower John while he had them captive? Hmm? Also, John wanted to kill himself and stopped when he heard Skye’s voice, the woman he had been having dreams about for years. Me thinking, what could be the connection? I was like, is this book supernatural? But since it’s mystery/thriller & romantic suspense, I thought they must have met earlier for them to be having dreams about each other. I JUST KNOW IT.
And let’s not forget Tamara’s writing style!!!! It flowed, she described every single thing aptly and her dialogue, chef’s kisses. She does know how to input humor in her sentences and boy, my lips were so wide in a smile, just like they are now as I’m writing this review. I really enjoyed reading.
To cap it all, it was a 100/100! A fucking good read and that cliffhanger? Damn, the way I’m rushing to read book two right now!!

✨ I want to start off this review by saying thank you to Tamara for sending me a copy of “Skyeholm” for me to read and give my thoughts on! ✨
I was intrigued by the concept of this book and loved the play on “Stockholm Syndrome” with the title! I thought it was quite clever!
I will say, it was a little hard to get though because I got lost every now and again at the start, but I am glad I finished the book and gradually started catching up to what was happening. Some of the time progressions were a little unclear and I would get confused as to how much time had passed.
I do feel that this book could’ve been wrapped up just in this book, I could understand a second, but the story dragged on a bit and felt kind of stagnant in the middle to the end. I was waiting for a build up to maybe the 4 upstairs escaping, or they get released? Maybe even John or Skye (or both!) kill them all! But when I realised where the story ended (especially after Skye noted in detail where all of the guns in the house were), I was a bit disappointed.
The commentary of the inner dialogue in some parts reminded me of the dialogue of a video game character when they are inspecting items or are going away from the main plot of the story and the character says something about turning back (if that makes sense?). Especially when Skye was snooping around the house.
I am conflicted as to whether I liked this or not.
Now to finish this review on some positives 😅
I absolutely loved the twist of John being not only in the police force, but one of the best detectives! No one would suspect that one of the best people in their town is hiding 5 massive secrets in his attic…
I would also love to know more about how and why John and Skye dream of each other. What triggered these dreams? How is it they’re dreaming solely of each other? Why are they having these dreams?
These are questions I would hope get answered in the second book (maybe even the third as this is a trilogy).
I also want to know if the case gets solved and if Charlie really is the other murderer as it seems like things will either lead to him 100% being the second guy, or there being an entirely new character that is actually the other killer.

In Skyeholm we meet the story of John and Skye. John is a police investigator with LOADS of undealt with trauma that continues to get added to with his line of work. Skye is an innocent girl who is looking for her place in life & her mystery man in her dreams. Their paths cross when John kidnaps Skye and her four other friends in a blackout that he doesn’t even remember doing it. Kidnapped in his basement, Skye is conflicted with her feelings for her dream man.

I want to start off with this book is unlike anything I’ve read before, but in the best way possible. You somehow become simultaneously angry at John for what he is doing at the beginning of the book but also somewhat feel sorry for him and all he has dealt with. John has a TON of untreated mental illnesses that drives a lot of his actions, and one that he is not fully aware of which ends up getting him in a really bad predicament. (I will not reveal what it is, but if you have heard of it, it is really prevalent as you read.) I loved the dual POV of both John and Skye. I like the timeline jumps at the beginning, so you can see what leads up to John’s actions. Throughout the story you get a little more of a glimpse into John’s backstory which explains why he is the way he is. Much to my surprise we also get a glimpse into Skye’s childhood backstory as well which shows some of her own undealt with trauma from childhood.

Though I personally rated it 5 stars, I will admit that I am personally unqualified to speak on how this author portrays the mental illnesses in this book, and I for one would love to see someone read it who has more experience to speak on the topic.

- Anxiety, Depression, PTSD, etc.

First, I want to thank the author, Tamara Rector, for an advance reader’s copy of this book. This story is told in a dual-narrator fashion with Skye and John, so we get to watch their unlikely romance unfold from both perspectives.
As the story begins, we are introduced to Skye, who is the reserved friend in the group of five. She and her friends get together in the park, but move locations this time due to a murder investigation near where they usually hang out. As she and her friends leave the park in waves, she hears noises as if someone or something is following her. She turns around and comes face to face with John, who chloroforms her. When she wakes up, she and her friends are locked in an attic.
John is a police detective and is the lead investigator in the nearby murder investigation. John has PTSD and anxiety due to his profession, as well as from a significant childhood trauma.
Although John and Skye do not know each other, they both have been dreaming of the other for several years. While he is an extremely unlikely kidnapper, he finally saw the woman in his dreams and experienced an anxiety/PTSD related blackout, causing him to kidnap the group.
The rest of the book centers around the group in the attic encouraging Skye to become romantically involved with John in order to earn his trust and free them. What they never expected is that a romance does, in fact, bloom, despite the circumstances.
While I loved the author’s writing style (it sucked me in immediately and didn’t let up), I spent the majority of the book saying: “Just let the group out of the attic” and “have sex with her already.” The romance is a very slow burn in this book, but given this is the first in the series, I’m sure it will pick up a bit in the sequel. The ending is a bit predictable as well. With all that said, I’m looking forward to the sequel to see where it goes from here!

First I want to thank @xo.tamara.rector for sending me the ebook to read and this is my honest review!
I am so glad I took the time to read this book. I am all about books with suspense and mystery but never have I read a book that has that and much more. You have murder, an unsolved case that is becoming a pain to solve, and then an abduction you don’t see coming. Let me tell you, does that open up a whole can of worms!
There is also a love sorry that unfolds in this book and it’s not like any I have read before. If you are familiar with Stockholm syndrome then you will quickly find that it’s along those lines but don’t be surprised if you begin rooting for the couple. 🤷♀️
The whole story was well written and it helps to create a vivid picture of what is playing out in the book. The characters in this story you either love or hate but each of them bring something to the story.

If you are like me and like books that aren’t the same as all the others, that has suspense and an unconventional love story then go read this book! You will just have to know what happens and how it all plays out!
I am so glad I took the time to read this book. I am all about books with suspense and mystery but never have I read a book that has that and much more. You have murder, an unsolved case that is becoming a pain to solve, and then an abduction you don’t see coming. Let me tell you, does that open up a whole can of worms!
There is also a love sorry that unfolds in this book and it’s not like any I have read before. If you are familiar with Stockholm syndrome then you will quickly find that it’s along those lines but don’t be surprised if you begin rooting for the couple. 🤷♀️
The whole story was well written and it helps to create a vivid picture of what is playing out in the book. The characters in this story you either love or hate but each of them bring something to the story.

🥀This book was truly mind blowing, I think this is one of the most unique books that I read this month, it had those unique blend of themes that got me very quickly and I was in the story real soon than I expected I would, the book also turned out really different than I thought or expected it to be but definitely in a good way.
The story deals with Skye and her secret man she dreams about, it might sound wrong but she feels connected with him, this is a wonderful tale that goes deeper into the human mind and it really talks about mental health and issues like over caring or thinking in a way that’s worth appreciating, hands down I liked each bit of that part, the book also had that fun side where we see the side characters adding more fun and charm to the story.
The book also introduced a syndrome I did not knew before, overall I feel it’s an unique and intriguing read that deals with the way one thinks and getting to know different opinions and story through their eyes was a beautiful part too!
It’s deep, emotional, gets intense and definitely a book that’s impactful and will make you think. I will definitely recommend it.

I received a copy of Skyeholm directly from the author.
There are definitely a few things I think are far fetched- not impossible but very unlikely. Like two strangers dreaming of each other then cross paths and both aware the other is from their dreams. I can’t say it will never happen but highly unlikely. The other is that Skye not once tries to ask about her friends or their situation to John. Or that John blacks out and kidnaps a group of people.
I do think that the relationship between Skye and John is extremely complex which is what made Skyeholm so interesting. There are a lot of complexities on how Skye should handle being around John and although I think it’s insane she seemed to forget about her friends until John would leave wild BUT that’s part of the complexity. Even though Skye’s friends are extremely immature they still shouldn’t be locked up.
Skyeholm was an interesting read, there were some slower moments and right when things started to get really interesting the book ended. While a few things don’t make sense to me I do believe that is the point of the book and it is what makes the story.

📚Crime, mystery and thriller is my favorite genre to read and especially when it comes with a blend of suspense follows in which makes it feel like reading a psychology thriller.
And especially with this book, it is my first time reading a story where the plot is based or revolves around Stockholm syndrome; if I have heard of but never got any chance to read.
📚The book unfolds when our protagonist Skye visits her hometown and goes for a fun time with her friends to the Nearby park and all of them gets kidnapped.
And later on discovered the person kidnapped her is a famous detective and kind of her crush aswell.
While all this is happening, she finds herself quite comfortable around him and realizes that it's something similar to Stockholm syndrome.
How will the story unfolds from here? Will she be able to accept the fact?
📚I personally liked the narration and storytelling of the book which made it feel like it's running in my mind like a movie reel.
And considering it's authors debut book,she has done a splendid job bringing up abduction thrillers.

This is an amazing book. Its very psychological and part 1 of a triology. I am currently part way through book 2.
The story is about a police officer who has an episode, after a triggering day at work. He comes around and finds he has kidnapped a group of friends. One of them is a woman, Skye, whom he has been dreaming about. The ironic part is Skye has also been dreaming about a man, for 4 years, who looks identical to John.
The book spans about a month I think... time moves so differently.
John is a police officer who is solving crime whilst he has this group kidnapped.
This book is amazingly complex, intelligent and makes you think. Some sections span a day or two, some a few minutes. It leaves you questioning so much, and wondering if what you have learnt is a breadcrumb or a false lead. I have tried to map it out but feel books 2 and 3 need to read to understand what is a real lead and what isn't!
Its incredibly well written, and a good length! A must read!

Honestly, I wasn’t sure what I was getting into when I first started reading Skyeholm... But really, all I can say is WOW. It has been a LONG TIME since a book has had me sucked in like this one did. It came together like the perfect mix of my favorite genres with a murder mystery, psychological trauma (really bringing home the psycho-thriller theme!), and romance.
First getting into it, it seems to follow Skye’s history with her dream man - someone she had literally dreamt of for YEARS, just for her to be at the wrong place at the wrong (or right) time to be abducted by him! Transitioning from her mixed feelings regarding her dream John, it slows into a stockholm-esqe scenario in which both parties seem to be becoming attached to each-other while navigating mental disorders and dealing with her ‘friends’ also having been abducted.
With the amazing cliff-hanger the story is left off with one main question: Will they be able to get through this daunting situation together?

Skyeholm was a fantastic book that brought Stockholm syndrome into the light. I loved alternating between the perspectives of John and Skye, especially reading their inner thoughts about the same events. They both grow so much as characters throughout the novel, and we really get to delve into who they are and what they have been through during the course of their lives. While John and Skye are beautifully written characters, I think that Skye's friends are underdeveloped characters and I hope to see more of them in the following book. It does not come across like Skye's friends really feel like they are in much danger, let alone want to escape their abduction. Overall this book was absolutely amazing, and the plot has me hooked. I cannot wait to see what happens in the sequel. I need to know now!

Beyond 5 stars!! This book was AMAZING in so many ways!! Yes it may have triggers but opens yours eyes so much!! I may like a lot of books but this one was beyond! People need to go out and read this! People do.mint realize the trauma our police, military, fire go through!! Ptsd is serious! I am married to man with ptsd. I guess I could relate a lot to this book! Poor Nohn did not realize what he was doing when he kidnapped those people. He was middle of ptsd flare up. Usually people black out and do not remember! I love the fact how patient and kind Skye is to him! It’s amazing how they dreamed of each other for so long!! The memories they made we awesome! I loved how they spent time on cliff and jumped into lake. I still have NO idea who has been doing the murders!! Can’t wait to read next book!! Seriously go out and read!!! So worth it!!!

Am I the crazy one, or just a sucker for love stories? Skyeholm has to be the most original book I’ve read in awhile!

Police detective John blacks out after a stressful night on the job, and kidnaps Skye and her friends. As much as Skye wants to hate her kidnapper, she’s been dreaming of him for years, and can’t help but have a soft spot for him. Is it Stockholm or what is meant to be?
I kept thinking throughout the book of ways to get Skye’s friends out while Skye and John can live out their life and be crazy together. 🤪 Some moments were so sweet it made me forget about the people in the attic. I like that several things throughout the book interconnected where you wouldn’t expect! I really can’t wait to see what the next book gives us!

Woah! That’s the first thing that comes to mind as I finish this book. I absolutely loved it and it had me hooked from start to end. So much so, that I read the book in a single day. I picked the book up this morning and I just couldn’t put it down throughout the day.
The story of John and Skye had me mesmerized.
I know, I know. She probably has a HUGE case of Stockholm Syndrome. But don’t hate me if I tell you it for so well for her. The man she’s always dreamed of and it turns out to be her and her friends captor. But it’s a beautiful story the way she ends up falling for him.
I honestly can’t wait to read more.
And the ending! Oh my goodness. I was biting fingernails there and I just need to know what happens next.
But I will say I 1000% person recommend this book to anyone and everyone.

I think this was well written and some of the quotes hit HARD. They seriously touch deep. I really enjoyed her writing and how she fleshed out feelings. However I only made it 32% in before DNFing
It isn't believable, and while i can tell there is more of an unknown element of mental struggle.....the plot lost me for it credibility.
There has to be some sort of threat to make their compliant actions believable. Their attempts at exscape dont make sense. And if he's a detective and wanted to let them go why didnt he mask his identity? I mean he works in solving crimes.
The dream part of this kept me captivated but not enough to over look these plot holes......even though I can guess there is more to this their actions just don't make sense

With everyone into the “dark” romance asking what’s a good starter book, THIS IS THAT BOOK! It’s a twisted romance that I just could not put down. Now I don’t know what’s to come over the next two books but this one is dark based on the plot and not violence and gore. It is a slow burn, forced proximity, age gap.
I enjoy the plot of this book because it is so different from all the others. The twist in this book make it worth the read for sure. Yes by now we have all read books with these tropes but I have yet to read one layed out the way this one is.
This is part 1 of a trilogy and book 2 is out but 3 has yet to be released. This story is over the course of all the books so it is a cliffhanger!!!!

This book starts strong with the kidnappings but it quickly turns into a story of the two MC falling in love. It’s almost like the whole story changes. It gives the feelings of the rest of the people are forgotten unless they are yelling to their friend. The story dragged on and doesn’t even end with answers or with enough of a cliffhanger to want to read the second book. There was no good turning point that kept me interested.I feel like there were so many opportunities where there could have been big plot catches or opportunities to really amp up the story. I read the story as an ARC and if it wasn’t for telling the author that I would read it and leave a review I wouldn’t have read this book.

Most definitely recommend for those who love a man in uniform, forbidden love, grumpy/sunshine, and a little side of detective work. However, this book does mention some things that may be triggering (suicide, SA, drug use, PTSD, kidnapping, & murder) so be mindful of that.
You guys, I LOVED this storyline. I don’t even know where to start with this because there was so much I loved. I’m a sucker for some forbidden love, so the fact that they dreamed of each other for YEARS just to meet as hostage and captor?!? 😩 I’m absolutely obsessed with the fact that John is a highly respected detective, and we get to read about his current case as well. The fact that the lead suspect is also tied to Skye just makes it SO much more enticing. As a psych major I also loved the psychological aspect to this story. 🫢 Not to mention the grumpy/sunshine between the two and the CLIFFHANGER. I need to know what happens next ASAP.

This book is very different from the types of genres I read. Regardless of that, this book was pretty good! It was interesting. Took me a while to get into at first but once I got midway through it was good. This book is heavy on mental illness since the main character has mental illnesses that makes him act the way that he does. It also gives you an interesting point of view on the other main character who has Stockholm syndrome. I do like how they explain what sort of traumas that John went through so that we can get a better understanding of why he kidnapped these girls, while also seeing from Skyes point of view and understanding her mindset

I really likes the aspect of they were each others “dream person” and having occasional flashbacks when different scents or sights would trigger memories. It’s someone new and different I haven’t read about before.
As someone with a Psychology background, DID is really hard to address. Because it’s a mental illness that differs person to person, I felt the author wrote the MC’s experience tastefully (even though I know not everyone with DID has the same experiences as the MC).
Overall 4/5, the only downside is I wish more answers were provided in the book; but that just makes for more suspense waiting for book #2!

Slow burn to cliffhanger. This book makes you want of Skye. You can sort some out while other parts come as a surprise. The slow burn really pulls you in as the cliffhanger leave you needed more.

John and Skye keep you wanted more of them but in the wriest way. You know the love is “forbidden” but you want them to have it anyways. You feel for the friends involved but also so wrapped in other parts of the story.

I enjoyed this book but I think a lot more could be unpacked in this basic plot line and a couple minor mistakes edited out. Tamara has done a really good job for her first book but I just wish she had given me more! (I promise you though, all will be revealed in the next books!)
It’s not the typical type of book I review but I do really commend Tamara for putting it out there and doing what most of us only dream of doing!

Wow! This book had me hooked! I loved how Tamara was so vivid and real with the mental health mentions and knew her research with cocaine withdrawals. The FMC was sensational and I wish my future children react like she did as child. The MMC was a colorful experience to read about and I loved how he was realistic with his mental health and sought his peace with the FMC.
The storyline was well written and at a good rate. I liked how it went from MMC to FMC with POV expressing their thoughts. I liked how each of the FMC's friends were different and each unique but then I didn't like them because they were ignorant towards the FMC with her feelings and past.

This is book 1 in the skyeholm triology.
And boy was this a fantastic read from chapter 1.the plot was well thought out. Awesome characters building. Even though I feel in love with SKYE and John the others made the story more exciting. I'm thrilled more authors are writing about mental health as it's a real issue in today's lives.
Tamara has an awesome imagination that transports you to each and every scene like you watching it unfold. I don't want to give anything away as I want to the readers to try this series and fall in love with it as much as I have. Can't wait to read book 2.thank you Tamara for sharing your writing journey with us.

I cannot say enough good things about this book! As a woman who suffers with PTSD, anxiety and depression, the author somehow took those and created a beautiful masterpiece. I felt seen, I felt heard and it made the reading so easy.
I’ll admit, I was a little angry with the mmc, BUT once you got into the story a lot more, you almost feel sympathetic to him and his plight. This was a fast paced read and I couldn’t put it down.
This was truly an amazing book and I’m truly glad that I read it.
