After losing his wife to the streets, Roddy decides to move him and his family to Atlanta, Georgia. Swearing off love, he eventually falls for the beautiful socialite of Atlanta, Jia Love. With a combined three million followers across all her social media accounts, she’s that girl. Falling in love with her, he just wants to make her his wife, and a mother figure to his son and daughter. Except, Jia isn’t ready for all of that. After having their daughter, she’s ready to get back to her life and show everyone how fast she snapped back after having her daughter, Kingsley. When she brings up the idea of hiring someone to help around the house, Roddy is against it. However, Jia is used to getting her way when she truly wants something. Recovering alcoholic, Yves is just trying to keep afloat. After losing her daughter in a car accident, and having her husband serve her divorce papers at their daughter’s funeral, she feels like her life isn’t worth living. Washing hair in her cousin’s salon is how she keeps money in her pockets and transportation to her AA meetings. When her cousin volunteers her for a live-in housekeeper position for one of her clients, Yves has nothing left to lose, so she accepts. Overnight she goes from living in her childhood bedroom in Brooklyn to having a master suite in a six-thousand square foot mansion in Buckhead with a Mercedes truck as her mode of transportation. It doesn’t help that her employer’s fiancé is a fine Black man with fatter pockets than a stuffed scarecrow.
WOWWWW..When Khalid came out of that room... All I could say was 'WOWWWWW' Vicky? Wowwwwl ! Ju?? Wowwwww! I have to wait for Part'2?? WOWWWWW!!! Sheesh..😩
STFU! that ending. Man I'm gonna be messed up for work in the morning cause I gotta start book 2 now. What the hell is he doing there? He can't be Vee's new bf, can he?!? Yo, this is messy af.
Ives made a bad decision 4 years ago that 4ever changed her life. Her husband left her. She lost everything. Four years later she still rebuilding her life. She moves from NY to ATL to be a housekeeper/nanny for Jia and her fiance Rod. Rod has 3 kids. Two from a previous marriage (teenagers) and one with Jia. Jia is a simpleton. Although she gets on my nerves, I do agree with her right to stop breastfeeding when she wants and to hire help. Rod et al are unreasonable in that regard. But, her simple butt putting her influencer career above her man and her family is wrong.
I am so eager to see what happens next. Gotta start book 2.
This book dealt with a couple of heavy topics, but they were handled fairly well. The characters were developed enough for this installment and the story moved well. There was a couple of “I know this *#%* didn’t” moments lol including that cliffhanger. I think what was surprising that none of the characters really had an inkling of morality. Well a couple did, but then they’re inner monologues and actions revealed otherwise. I’m looking forward to book 2.
Wow this book is amazing. It has a lot of twist that I finished it in two days. This is the first book that I've read from this author and It's not going to be the last. I couldn't stop reading it it's that good.
I didn’t know what to expect once the book started. But wow, this was so good. So much mess going on. I was in disbelief at the end. Can’t wait to continue the series.
Okay… I have been putting this read off for like a year, and I must say I’m glad I finally got around to this book. Not disappointed at all. I am intrigued. Much better than I expected. I’m glad there are four books, because I can definitely continue reading about their stories. It’s multilayered. You can connect with almost all of the characters even though I don’t like them all. I appreciate the writing style. At first I didn’t think I would continue because the prologue had me seeing Yves as utterly stupid, but she learns from her mistakes. The prologue was important for us to really lean into Yves’ life four years later. With this new family, I liked that Yves wasn’t a pushover and didn’t take mess. She’s not not perfect and didn’t pretend to be for the family.
Potential Spoilers below: -Now, what I will always hate is infidelity. Yes Jia is trifling and a cheater herself but they don’t know for sure and get your own mess together before getting involved. I don’t like Jia but this got really messy really fast. -I peeped who Vee really was to Rod early on so I wasn’t surprised by that but her new man…. Whew that took my by surprise. I have to wait to start the next book because this had me not focused at work lol
I have mixed feelings about this book—and I mean that in the most honest way possible.
On one hand, I loved the drama, the twists, and how unpredictable it all was. There’s a lot happening in this story(plot twist after plot twist) and it definitely keeps you on your toes. But on the other hand, I struggled a bit with the main character, Yves, especially in the beginning. She came off extremely entitled, even though she was clearly in the wrong. Instead of taking accountability, she wallowed in self-pity, and that rubbed me the wrong way at first.
That said, she did grow on me. As the story unfolded, I started to understand her more, and I actually began to like her. There’s definitely more to her than meets the eye.
This feels like the kind of series where I won’t fully know how I feel until I’ve read all the books. The author is clearly building toward something bigger, and I need the full picture before I decide whether I’m truly sold on it. Also Jahquel is known for wild cliffhangers 😩
Now I admit…I put off reading this book for a while based off the title. I thought well that can’t be that interesting. BOY WAS I WRONG!!!! I guess this is why they say never judge a book by its cover because BAY BAY once I started I could not put it down. By the end of this installment it’s so much shit going on I don’t know what to think. We got the aunt who was really the mama, two (not 1 but 2) possible pregnancies, we got the old ass aunt getting her groove back with ppl husbands (s yes husbands, in her defense one of them is a ex). We got cheaters, liars, and addictions. It’s just too good to explain. You’ve got to read it.
this was a great read keeps you your toes from front to back enough drama but not overly dramatic my 1st time reading from this author
Lord help this is to good I hope it doesn’t take to long for part 2 couldn’t put this bad boy down I hope Yves get a happy ending lord knows she needs it and Mamma Vee is a hot ass mess but love her I can’t wait for lil Mis Jia to put in here place I can’t stand her I’m going to go other books by the author and patiently waiting on part 2 cause ik it’s going to be good. And Mimi wrong ass hell how she told Mamma Vee secret and I hope they relationship can come back stronger than ever
This was so good, but man, the ending was SHOCKING! Never expected to see that person again but wow! The entertainment is just beginning!
I only had a couple of issues with this novel, one being the repetitive sentences in some of the chapters near the middle of the book. You're reading a random sentence then two sentences later, you're reading it again. I know this happens sometimes to get a point across, but it wasn't necessary in this case.
There were also a few grammatical errors, especially with the pronouns, and Brie's Mother Marlene was given two names in one of the chapters.
Other than that, the book is five stars across the board. I hurried up and downloaded part 2.
This book was hard to put down ! Reading this book I felt all of the emotions the ups and downs, I really felt like a part of the story. If you want to get caught up in other peoples lives and drama this is the book for you.
Character development throughout the first half of the book which I love because it doesn’t leave you confused going through the story. I was wide eyed and on the edge of my seat at 80% in. Can’t wait to get through this series!!!
Wow what just happened I am literally speechless from that ending. Yves is a sweetheart she made a terrible decision that sent her spiraling into depression but I am glad to see that things are finally looking brighter for her. Her mother, ex-husband and family were downright trifling for the way they treated her after everything that happened. Roddy was bae he is exactly what Yves needs hopefully everything comes together for them in the part 2. Jia is a self- centered and spoiled brat she doesn’t want Roddy but doesn’t want anyone else to have him because he provides her with a lavish lifestyle, I can’t wait until everything blows up in her face. Juleena poor child thinks she has it all figured out at fourteen but has no idea about the responsibilities that she is going to face now from her situation and Roddy is going to be devastated once he finds out. Vee kept a secret from Roddy his entire life even though her mom made the decision in her teenage years she should have come clean to him hopefully they can repair their relationship and get back on the right track.. Jahquel you have definitely dropped another banger and I can’t wait until part 2 drops!!
What goes on in Dubai, stays in Dubai. Really Khalif? He divorced Yves to marry her cousin then turn around and cheat with Vee. Yves and her mammy got some deep rooted issues. That's why she's drinking. Jai self-centered, brat. She didn't even want Kinsley and Keisha didn't want her to have her because Keisha is using her to secure her own bag. Kourtney talks to much telling Jai, Yves mammy her business. Tara is looking like a fool divorce her husband to turn around and get cheated on by her current husband if they are still married. The only people Jai got in her corner is Mimi and Keisha. She loves him, but in love with him. How are they going to Roddy about Juleena's pregnancy? Roddy and Jai are going through the motions and neither one wants to call it quits. When Jai finds out that Roddy and Yves are sleeping together will she walk away and take Kinsley with her? Vee got to try and talk with Roddy so she can try and repair their relationship.
That mf ending got my eyes like😮😮!! Baby this book will take you through every freaking emotion. I cried when Yves lost it all. Her family treated her like ish, nobody comforted her when she needed it most. Everybody turned their backs on her. Even though she stayed with her mom she treated her the worse because she didn't show her any type of love throughout the book. She talked stuff about her more than anybody else in the family. Fast forward to Yves being in Atlanta to work..... This was a good job for Yves and she's loving it. I just feel like everything's going to get worse before it gets better. I think that Jia and Roddy both just needs to walk away from their so called relationship and co parent KK. Neither one of them are happy and they both want different things right now. I'm left with more questions so I can't wait to read the next installment!
All I can say is OMG and then a damn CLIFFHANGER!!!!!!
Jahquel catalog has been my drug this year. I’m addicted. I’ll leave my review once finished this series
SIDENOTE (aka “Don’t come for my stars!”): Just a quick heads-up my ratings are based on whether I’d reread the book or add it to my personal collection, not the quality of the story itself. So here’s how I roll:
5 🤩 = I’m obsessed with everything the storyline, the author, and the narrators! I read it yearly and own ALL the copies: physical, digital, and Audible. I can basically recite this book. It lives in my private library. 4 🌟 = Loved the story, the author, and the narrator (if it’s audio). I’d happily reread it when I need a solid comfort read. 3 ✨ = Enjoyed the story, the author, and definitely the narrators. A great addition to my yearly reading challenge likely to revisit if it’s part of a series I need to refresh.
What can I say I tried holding out until part two so I could read them together but you can’t let a Jahquel book stay in your library and keep skipping over it. First I don’t like Jia and hope that Roddy soon find out. I love Yves, can’t stand Khalid he did Yves dirty. I wished Momma Vee would have told Roddy before her Momma did. I don’t want to spoil the book for those that didn’t read it. Just know that it is worth downloading. Keisha is a user, hope Yves is pregnant, hope Roddy gets it together and his little princess is out of pocket. When is book 2 coming out? RJ is kinda cool. What happened to Khalif and Yves cousin? Last but not least I hope Jia doesn’t find out about Yves but I am quite sure that if she does Yves will have no problem checking her. Alright people go out and get your own copy.
This damn story here!!!!! The snippets you released in the group dont have nothing on this here book. You did that, again. Yves done been throufh some things and her momma was being a straight up B to her. Now that damn Jia...she's not ready to be adult She needs to leave Roddy and live her life. but its not gonna be peaches and cream cause that rapper gonna dog her out. Mimi came with all the tea!! Ju, her dad is gonna be so disappointed but i think he will be accepting over time with the help of Yves cause Jia gonna call her everything but the child of God cause she doesn't like her. Mamma Vee..smh she should have told Roddy before him finding out and how in the hell she end up with Khalif!?! So ready for part 2.
Omg! I can’t wait for part 2 because this book was good from beginning to end. I love Yves and how she’s changed her life since the accident. Jia is young and I can tell she wasn’t ready to have kids because it’s so easy for her to up and leave everyday without spending time with Kingsley. Roddy is Bae of course lol. I love the fact that he’s a family man and he goes above and beyond to make sure that his family is taken care of. I’m so anxious to read part 2 because part 1 was definitely juicy. As always Jah did her thing with this book!
I liked the plot but too many characters for my liking, editing needs work, I thought that I liked how the story was going because groups of friends/siblings weren’t dating groups of friends/siblings but that turned out to be wishful thinking. I get that some type of drama has to be there but it’s always the same drama in all the books no matter the author 🤷🏽♀️
Secrets just everywhere in this book and I’m loving it!!! Damn Roddy gonna end up getting caught because it’s like Jia be watching him so he won’t be watching her but I can’t wait for her to get caught though! Damn Khalif is back in the picture, I can’t wait to jump into part 2!!!!
The beginning was so sad and I’m so glad that Yves finally got her life together after losing her daughter her mama and Aunt pisses me off and even her husband did her dirty but he will meet karma soon and I hope he will one day see how happy yves is something that he couldn’t even do and the way Jia treated Roddy she don’t deserve she allowing outsiders come between what she have and that is a good man that she is about to lose to a good woman who really needs him.. AI really enjoy reading this book I can’t wait to read part 2 I’m about to read that now as we speak thank you for a good read love it from the beginning to the end but omg Vee and khalif ain’t seen this coming 😳😳😳😳
I purchased all three of these titles on audible to get me through the chaos of cooking Thanksgiving dinner. This book had me rewinding several parts just to make sure I heard right. I am invested, so I can’t wait to finish book 3. Time to put the pot of collard greens on the stove. Hope that I don’t burn them Being distracted by all the drama and Jerry Springer quality insanity of this surf triangle? There are too many players involved to call this I love triangle. I’ve got it… Ass the penis swings. that should be the title of this modern day hood drama/soap opera the Carrington of the old 80s prime Time sizzler dynasty… They don’t have anything on these people. Complete with social media stardom a dope boy term legit and a bunch of lies secrets and sex. Happy reading
Let me tell you… Confessions of a Hustla’s Housekeeper was a straight-up binge read! Jahquel J. did her thing with this one. The characters were bold, the drama was juicy, and the storyline was full of twists that kept me flipping pages like I was getting paid to finish it! I loved how raw and real the emotions were — you feel every bit of tension, lust, and betrayal. That balance of street life and vulnerability? PERFECTION. If you like messy relationships, hustla vibes, and a main character who doesn’t hold her tongue, this book is IT. Ready for the next part ASAP
Yves’ mama wasn’t shit. I understand holding your child accountable, but no matter how grown they are, your job is to be in their corner, not to pile on like the rest of the world.
Jia fooled me. I liked her at first, but she quickly became one of my least favorite characters, right alongside Yves’ mama.
Aunt Vee was dead wrong. Keeping that secret after her sister passed was selfish. She should have told that boy the truth then.
Yves’ ex-husband disappointed me. I get that he was hurting, but they both lost someone irreplaceable. The way he handled her was not fair at all.
