*launches kindle across room*
*screams in British*
What the actual fuck is this author on 😂 Where did they get their research? Because let me tell you it was not the Oxford English dictionary- which coincidentally is where the damn book is set. I've waited a while for this series to finish, the premise sounded like it could be super funny and as soon as I noticed the trilogy was available I RAN to my library. Only to be disappointed within the first chapter 🙈 the reviews seemed amazing and yes I knew it was going to be sillyness throughout but this was on another level. I can get past that EXCEPT for the author *confidently* informing the readers through footnotes about British slang/idioms/phrases THAT ARE NEVER USED NOW NOR EVEN HEARD OF BY ANYONE IN BRITAIN. Every single footnote was enraging me further, so here's some of my favourite terms, because let me tell you if I listed them all there'd be no point reading the book. They're on E V E R Y page.

Stonkers is not what we call boners. You really thought you'd have your readers feeling some type of way about a girl wrapping her lips around a STONKER.
Knackers is not what we call balls, boffins is not a term for scientists... well not a nice and used term anyway. Haven't heard that since I was about nine because that's a *child's* insult. But wait, there's more.
•"Bizzies"?! I had to Google, then confirm with a pensioner. That's apparently a term for police... Not in the last 50+ years babe
•Poking is DEFINITELY not what we call fingering, it's... JUST fingering.. like talk about a turn off mid sex scene. He's Poking her fanny, she's fondling his knackers whilst slurping on his stonker... PLEASE. Dear God, make it stop. 🧎🏼‍♀️
•Oh and last but not least... strawberry creams are apparently breasts?! Well this is fucking news to us.

Honestly the rest of the world must think us truly fucking bonkers to be talking this way 😂 I wouldn't have been mad about it had every single word I listed had a footnote saying this is a British term. GIRL, NO 😂

I love a FMC that is sex positive and doesn't give a fuck (even though Belle was annoying af), I love accepting men like the 4 in this book even though we don't really know them that well, but I honestly cannot read through another book that tells me I don't know my own language 🤣 a tip for writers, if you're going to base your story in a country that isn't your own, maybe talk to a native instead of a quick Google search that takes you to a random ass list of words that haven't been used or heard of in the last half a century.

Quick hilarious read that made my sick day a bit more fun. Jezebel aka Belle is an extremely proud lover of all things sex, she’s a freak and I mean that literally and in the most honest way possible lol. Belle recognizes her sexcapades are getting a little out of control. I mean she’s slept with everyone on campus including teachers and really doesn’t want to dip into her own sloppy seconds. Thus she decides she needs to change and decides to take control of her life by attending a group session for Sex-Aholics. The meeting is advertised as SA so she has to be in the right place, right? Oh man this mixup made the book so magical and hilarious there are no words. This author either goes a bit overboard for me occasionally but this book was spot on and special. I’m glad she is updating the title and cover as I hope it reaches a lot more people now. If you need a belly laughing RH quick read, look no further.

My second time reading this and I’m crying from laughter.
This author doesn’t always work for me because of the humor but this series and just does it. The humor is dirty, it’s punny, and absolutely ridiculous.

If you need a good laugh, you should really read this.

Absolute insanity with a lot of sexual puns. This one was part cringe, part funny and part ridiculous. No sign of m/m but Belle will likely do something about that. A bit of f/f/f and a whole lot of crazy. It was entertaining how long the miscommunication went on for. The shifter names dragged things out and were clever. Poor Theo with the dick pic. Favourite part was Belle going nuts on the spider. I’m looking forward to the next one.

This book was a breath of fresh air. I laughed so hard I could barely breathe. Belle is an American studying at Oxford. Belle is the epitome of "Lost in Translation" and miscommunication.

A sex addict looking for a way to curve her sexual appetite decided to join a Sexaholic Anonymous Group. While doing a Google search she found a SA Group Meeting 30 miles away from Campus. Unbeknownst to Belle she just stumbled upon a Shifter's Anonymous Group instead.

Shifter's Anonymous is a group for Primary a.k.a misfit Shifter's. You have Jude the Cockchafer (Beetle), Arthur the Horny Toad, Theo the Slippery D*ck (Little Fish), Jack the A** (Donkey), Sian the Blue T*t (Little Bird) and Elise a Blue Booby (Blue foot Bird).

Now you can see how things took a turn for the worst with a sex addict thinking these are British sexual innuendos. Belle found herself new best friends who she loved as family. Never once did she treat them as outcast.

Due to her promiscuous ways Belle has caught the attention of a high level Shifter who wants to breed her because of her blood type. After being kidnapped it's up to the Misfit Shifter's to save the day.

This was a really funny and heartwarming story about those deemed as outcasts finding love and acceptance among each other. While in captivity Belle has been injected with an experimental drug that will cause her to become a shifter. This book leaves on a Cliffhanger and I am ready to see what kind of shenanigans our Misfit Shifter Group will get into next.

yes yes yes yes

i’m really ill right now and i needed something to cheer me up and this book had me in stitches. my god.

the main girl, belle, is a sex addict and she wants help. so she looks up online and finds a group called S.A which she thinks stands for sexaholics anonymous when it actually stands for shifters anonymous. as you could imagine the miscommunication was fucking hilarious. all the guys had shifters like slippery dick, ass, cockchafer and something toad. i’m sorry can’t remember.

the plot is really good and unique. i can’t wait to find out what happens.

belle was one hell of heroine, she was amazing and sooooo confident. she had me laughing out loud and snorting, i never snort…

the guys were so sweet and they care for her but more in a friend way.

the only problems i had was i didn’t connect with all of them, i would say theo and jack i know most about.

i also don’t know who’s in the harem, like are the girls in it??

she’s only had sex with a couple of the guys, it’s not very detailed and it feels more like i’m reading about bestfriends with lil benefits who are on a mission lmao. there’s no proper romance yet.

Laugh out loud funny

I can always count of this author to have me chuckling while reading with her work and this book is no different. The innuendos and jokes are over the top to the point of funny. The complete disconnect and lack of understand between the sex addicted Belle and the shifters within the support group is absolutely hilarious to read. We, as the readers, know her new friends aren’t trying to be sexual or make sex jokes but Belle does not catch on so reading the conversations are hilarious.

While this book is funny, the plot so far is interesting. The different hierarchy of shifters isn’t necessarily new but the types of shifters and their classes are new for me. I am super curious to see what happened to Belle in the next installment.

I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a female lead who is VERY comfortable with her sexuality and likes to laugh. This book does contain some F/F which I know can be a no go for some readers. Me personally, I love it all, kind of like Belle.

Belle is a grad student at Oxford University, however, she's a sex addict. She decides to get help, however, what she doesn't realise is that she ends up at Shifter Anonymous and through misunderstanding with the six members of SA, she ends up knowing about the shifters, and now someone is out to get her for a nefarious purpose.

I don't even know if there was a single page where I didn't laugh out loud. Belle was so funny and only had a single thought in her mind. I'm really curious on how the story continues.

I was kindly provided with an ARC by the author, but I'm leaving a voluntary and honest review.

way too silly and immature. fmc may be 29 but never matured past high school. and what are the names of these animals they shift into? and how tf did she get to 50% before she realized they were shifters and not sex addicts? she met every red flag that should’ve made her ask a follow up question with a “oh well, they’re just British” and moved on with her day. how dumb can you be?? I (somewhat) enjoyed her other series (monsters under the bed or something like that, I don’t think I finished the series bc it was taking too long for each book to release) but I definitely won’t be reading a TRILOGY of this bs. I’d rather drink bleach, thank you very much

First, I really like M.J. Marstens writing. I have read Mate Date of her. And some books of her are on my TBR list. Normally I only read books series, when they are finished. In this case I read it, because it's - after a long time - again part of Kindle Unlimited (at least for me - I'm living in Germany). And as I have read, the last book is due in the next time. So, I probably haven't to wait long before closure.

But back to the book. As I said, I like M.J. Marstens writing. This book wasn't any different. I love the funny books. Mate Date was funny, but Banbury Shifter Tale series is way better. I laughed a lot. It is funny how language can be that various - and convey a whole different meaning. In Germany, we often learn British English. But not that kind of English. Or it's more accurate to call it slang. I found myself fascinated by trying to understand what the characters were saying. I totally have to Google a lot. I learned new things. But probably nothing I will need in the future. ;)

But hilarious how Belle and the guys - and ladies - talk with each other, but keep talking about two different worlds. That was well-placed within the book.

So, though I enjoyed it, I only give 4 stars. That's because there were some things, I personally didn't like that much. At first for me there were some major logic mistakes. I know it's meant to be funny. But Belle comes out dumb, during the story. And I don't like it, if the characters are idiotic. Don't get me wrong. I liked about her, that she is perky and embraces who she is. She is unapologetic about her sexuality. And her heart is in the right place. She accepts them and keeps positivity high. But it doesn't fit, that she is brilliant at the university. Has a scholarship. That indicates she should be smart, but she doesn't act like a genius. And, I don't think, that any sex addict thinks that much about sexual encounters. Again, I know it should be funny. But that is too exaggerated. Not to mention, that she keeps talking about herself as a whore.

But that are minor things. Overall, I enjoyed it. The idea was unique. The shifter system is interesting, too. And all funny scenes made my day. The steam and smut wasn't bad, either. I'm honest, I'm not into F/F. I like M/M more. But that's a preference. And I don't have a problem reading F/F scenes. In this book, it was mild. And it was well written.

So, I give 4 stars and reading the next book.

Was this book ridiculous? Yes. Do I really care that it is? No. You wanna know why? Because it was so freaking refreshing to read a PNR that wasn’t all doom and gloom for once and was also well written.

The jokes are silly, sexual, and so absolutely ludicrous that you can’t help forgetting your own drama and just keep laughing. The whole beginning of this book felt like joke after joke that it creeps under your radar and the story just flows. Are there some moments and comments that may push your comfort levels? Possibly. But if you’ve picked this book up after reading the synopsis you should already be aware you are reading about a sex addict and I’d assume you are someone who is open minded and accepting enough to jive with Belle’s personality and story.

The plot outside of the silly is both more serious and yet still ridiculous. It had some “well shit that’s messed up” moments near the end when the bad guys start to be revealed. It walked a very fine line between not being dismissive about how horrible the bad guys plans are and keeping it relatively light considering this is a comedy. Because here’s the thing, if she continued to act silly if the worst case had happened and she wasn’t saved, then she would be making light of too serious a situation. But if she all of a sudden sobered up and turned into the terminator or a super ninja or even just a blubbering mess then all the early humour of the story would have just dried up. However, it was managed and the story continues.

So yeah, this was refreshing and totally worth the few hours it took to read all 220 pages of this light read (it’s not a massive time commitment). There will be a sequel for those readers who get invested or want a longer story. If you are a fan of PNR but are tired of all the drama this is a nice book to take a break with, give it a try (you know you wanna).

Sweet lord, was this a ridiculous book! Ridiculous in the best way possible, though. 😁 I had the sads this week, so I wanted something light and funny, and I know that MJ is always amazing when it comes to humour.

If you read the blurb, you know this will be redic, and honestly, it delivers. We have Belle, a sexoholic who ends up going to Shifters Anonymous instead of Sexoholic Anonymous. There are tons of great silly jokes that arise from the fact that the shifters think she's a weird cat type, and she thinks they are just all sex addicts.

My husband had to come to check on me a few times because I was laughing so hard! The one thing that did annoy me was the crazy amount of British slang (with footnotes). I know it was a choice, but as an American who lives in England, it got slightly annoying (but honestly, that was the only small complaint)

The FMC!
Belle is who she is, and both cares about what people think but also gives 0 F's at the same time. She's a very interesting contradiction. I really dig that she's unabashedly into sex and her love of it. She knows who she is and what she wants, and it's refreshing to see - plus her sense of humour about everything is amazing.

The Guys (&Girls)!
We've got a ragtag group of weird shifters who are looking for acceptance, and Belle is just the lady that they are looking for to bring out the best in them. We have men and women in this harem, which is a change of pace for me, so we'll see how this develops in book 2.

The Smut!
I mean our girl really likes sex, so you know there's loads of it in here. Plus the sheer amount of sexy jokes also builds the smut level.

10/10 would recommend if you're looking for laughs.

The story, as the blurb goes, is about the h being a sex addict stumbling on a group of Shifter Anonymous thinking it’s Sex addict Anonymous….
Turns out these shifters are the “lowest ranked” in the shifter world.
For the first half of the book she is not even aware they are shifters, as all go by the names of their animals (I’ll not spoil, but I actually “googled” these to see if they are real! They are!) which seemingly have sexual innuendos.

The rest of the plot develops and there are LOL moments (which is rare for me in a book), and some REALLY crazy writing and heroine’s inner thoughts which are hilarious!
Also a lot of American vs. British slang banter, and not the cliché type for a change but rather much more intelligent.

I enjoyed this book because it was very different than other books I have read with respect to the writing style, which was very radical and completely “out there” (the heroine keeps thinking and referring to sex in very open minded and mouthy terms, no shame at all!).

I have it 4 starts because at some point it was so radical, it was like reading comics / cartoons. It was still funny and refreshing but admittedly not sure I’ll want to read again after I savoured this time round and very much doubt it will be as magical the 2nd time around.

I did continue to read the 2nd book, although this has some sort of closure (the second book picks up from the exact spot directly but you don’t have to read it if you are done after the first book).
I enjoyed the 2nd book as well, except towards the end when I started skimming a bit growing impatient with the too-extreme plot which was a bit exhausting.
All in all a very enjoyable surprise if you are looking for something light and comic-style (not that shifters are realistic ;-)).

This is one of the funniest things I've read all year. I laughed so hard at some parts I gave myself a headache. This is the only right way to do the miscommunication trope lmao. This was a breath of fresh air to read. So funny and out there that I could hardly put it down. I'm looking forward to reading the next one.

A few things that bugged:

1. A horny toad is not a toad but is actually a lizard. It gets its name from its body shape. It shocks me that one of the characters was a horny toad and the character was treated as a toad (even going so far as to say "a toad is different than a frog," and "I'll hop over").

2. The footnotes. They were used to explain British slang but many were so blatantly obvious it was unneeded. At one point, "screaming at the top of her voice" was given a footnote to explain that it's like "screaming at the top of her lungs," which didn't need to be explained to the reader. Then other words like nippers, sheisty (which I know but isn't regularly used in the US), etc aren't explained.

3. SMALL SPOILER - This is just personal preference but I'm disgusted that at the end she's vomited all over herself multiple times and then they're running around to escape and then she makes out with the women with her vomit mouth and vomit all over her body? Ew. And she still doesn't wash up once they get to the boat. Blech.

Oh my god!! So beyond laugh out loud funny

I saw this book as a recommendation on. FB book group and i have NEVER been so hally to find a book. Holy hell the first page had me laughing, the first chapter nearly had me wetting myself by the third chapter im finding the author on FB cause i have a serious girl crush and by the end of the book my ribs and chest hurt so bad from laughing so hard and so loud its insane. And i LOVE the different take on shifters and the hilarious idiom mixups. OMG Soooooo good!!!
If youre easily offended do not read this.
If youre down for a hilariously funny self admittedly sexaholic that is book brilliant but other wise ditzy FMC that mistakes a shifters anonymous group for a sex anonymous group which leads to some incredibly hilarious hijinks and some dastardly plots then this is most definitely a MUST READ. Be prepared to laugh so hard you pee yourself. I cant wait to read the next one!!!

I absolutely adore MJ’s writing. This quirky reverse harem tale had me laughing out loud the entire way through. I think these were some of the most unexpected and interesting kinds of shifters I’ve read about. Belle is FMC, she is fun, smart, and a totally a self-confessed sexaholic. She inadvertently finds herself in a shifters anonymous group thinking she was going to a sexaholic group. The complete disconnect and lack of understand between the sex addicted Belle and the shifters within the support group is absolutely hilarious to read. Of course the shifters aren’t you’re garden variety shifters, they all have names that sound pretty dirty. I love that Belle owns who she is, and the guys and girls are all a little lost on how to handle Belle. I can't wait for book 2 to see what kind of mischief they all get into, and if they can escape from the big bad.

This is a hilarious tale full of miscommunication that leads to some hilarious situations! There is certainly never a dull moment in this book. There's action, melt-your-screen steam, and moments that will leave you breathless from laughter. Oftentimes in RH we have FMCs that are sexually shy or not sure about having a harem of lovers. Belle is far from that, and it's truly a breath of fresh air. All of the characters are well-defined too and I love getting to learn all their British-isms.

I look forward to seeing what happens next with these characters and what their adventure leads to!

Belle is kind of an fun, smart, and a self- confessed addict for anything steamy. Due to some king/slang issues as an American in England, she inadvertently finds herself in a shifters anonymous group when she thought she was going to an entirely different group. Of course the shifters aren’t you’re garden variety shifters, they all have names that sound pretty dirty. I love that Belle owns who she is, and the guys and girls are all a little lost on how to handle Belle. There is a lot of innuendo, the story is past paced, but I didn’t really feel like I got to know most of the characters, towards the end I was still kind of confusing a couple of them. The story was a fun, light, read, and I will likely check out book 2 to see what happens next.

Funny AF!

"I’m one of the most feared animals of all time."
"Oh my God-you’re a T-Rex?!" I cry.

Belle thought she was going to attend a Sexaholics Anonymous meeting but it turns out that it was a Shifter’s Anonymous one, and the whole mix up brings her in a very interesting journey.

I really enjoyed reading this book! Belle is one crazy character but so likeable! The whole story was funny as hell, even though I have to say that at some moments, it was dragging a little.
The kind of shifters Jude, Arthur, Theo, Jack, Sian and Elise are is not one you’d usually find in another shifters’ book and I loved it.

Now I’m wondering ... This is going to be really interesting and I cannot wait to read book #2!

DNF. Sorry but this is exactly why Brits despise being portrayed by Americans. The glossary of terms which haven’t been used in this country since the middle ages sealed the deal.
I love all of MJ’s other works, so I’d feel guilty giving less than two stars but this was honestly insulting. Please, US authors, just ASK us before you put “stonker” “strawberry creams” and “bizzies” in a modern day English setting with characters under the age of 80. And FYI Buff means muscly not “attractive” and Boffin is an insult akin to nerd not a genuine term for a scientist.
A genuine reflection of our culture would’ve had dialectical differences from the different counties like “Ey up, Duck.” This was just … ugh. It was American.

This was…. Wild. Going into it I don’t think I truly appreciated the level of humor this would be. The puns and the miscommunication were much more funny than I expected. Cheers to the author! Very clever writing.

I’m also glad that the miscommunication doesn’t drag in forevvvver. Because that’s easily could have been the case.

I started this at night expecting to read a bit before bed and this sucker pulled me in so much I was up until 4 am starting the next. 😱🙈

Is this for everyone? No. Some people will not appreciate this type of comedy. Which sucks for them. It’s sarcastic and delightful and crude with an edge of satire. Were creative liberties taken with the languages to create more humor? Definitely. But I think it was done well so I didn’t mind 🤷‍♀️

I gave this three stars but it may be more…I just think I may be a specieist 😂 Here me out - most shifter stories are about the Alpha, Sexy, Majestic Wolf/Lion/Bear/Dragon and this has the opposite of that (queue bugs, fish, and birds)😂

The FMC is a bit crazy 🤪 not in a killer kind of way but in a flighty erratic kind of way 😂 - she’s also a nympho who tries to go to Sexaholics Anonymous and ends up in an adventure.

This is definitely not your typical shifter RH story- it’s unique, funny and in my mind this is how English people talk 😂🫣🤷🏾‍♀️ (as an American who married a Jamaican - let me tell you how it’s very real that we can both speak English and still not know that the others is saying/means)

M.J Marstens is one of those authors guaranteed to make a funny book and this was no different! I absolutely loved the misunderstanding and miscommunication that went on for this book regarding SA. The characters inner dialogues were hilarious when trying to decipher each other’s words to relate to shifters or to sexaholics. The picture message mix up was especially great😂. it’s always interesting to find a shifter book that doesn’t only focus on the “big alpha types”, and this was done perfectly! Some f/f/f for anyone who likes a heads up. Cliffhanger too! Can’t wait for the next one to see what happens next!

This book was ridiculous from start to finish and I mean that in the best way. The sexual innuendos were over the top and hilarious. This book was exactly what I needed today.

Belle is book smart but so incredibly out of the loop when it comes to social situations. The language barrier and misunderstanding of British slang put her in some pretty funny situations. The shifters are adorable and so damn innocent. I love that they’re so unique.

This book is an excellent palate cleanser and reminds you not to take life too seriously. If you’re need laughs, spicy scenes and general debauchery, this book is for you. I can’t wait to see what else Belle and the gang get up to.

Very clever…

Truly, coming up with all the idioms and euphemisms must’ve been exhausting. I had to give a star just for that alone. I personally think it’s clever writing.

I did have a hard time getting into the story a little, but I kept going. I struggled to feel attached to the other characters, and had to really think to remember who was who.

Ultimately this was a very unique take on shifters, and I think that’s really cool. This isn’t a cookie cutter shifter book. Belle is unique character as well, and I loved that she was agreeable and fierce. Authors please understand you can be fierce/kickass, smart AND agreeable!

Hilarious!

This was laugh out loud and full of amazing puns. The shifters were super different but great in just about every way. I loved the plot and the characters were the best. I love how unapologetic Belle is about her sexuality. Her friends accept her exactly as she is and vice versa. It was a quick read but so well written that it just worked. The dialogue flowed perfectly and their banter was always making me giggle. I don't giggle under normal circumstances so this was just a fun read all around. Can't wait for the next book!

DNF for now.

You ever read something and it gives you anxiety for the main character because something will inevitably happen or be revealed and you just stress until it happens? That's what this book did. It gave me EXTREME anxiety because of the "humorous" mixup.

I was hoping this would be as encompassing and hilarious as Mate Date, which I realize is not a fair comparison, but in reality I got about 20% in and am just STRESSED. I might pick this up and try again later but right now I really can't handle the anxiety.

OMG

This was too much, in a good way! I loved the crazy sex mind Belle had. I'm excited to see what she turns into and see what happens with her harem. By the way, the beginning had me laughing so hard I had a coughing fit. If you like sassy sex addict protagonists and extreme underdogs taking on the big dogs, read this. It was hilarious. "No body eats my slippery dick."

My favorite thing she said, "He's lucky he didn't catch me on a taco bell day", so she could fart to keep the animal away. lol Read it and you'll get it.

Comedy with a side of sex!

Well I read the reviews and everyone said how funny this book was. Lol it definitely made me laugh, I had to read out various parts to my spouse because he was giving me the “your weird” look. Once I told him some of the “idioms” he was laughing along side me. It was slow pace for most of the story and then 3 quarters through, the plot explodes with action. That ending, was harsh… Thank god that the 2nd book is already out. If you want some deep belly laughs from many of the sexual innuendos with a dash of action this book is for you!
