The first female president's husband is a PI. He puts out his shingle and his first case is a news reporter who has a stalker. From there, things fall apart. The book tries to bring West Wing type political stuff into a PI mystery, but there is no real understanding of politics, on either the local or the national level, or of civics, either.
The author tries to do too much, with too little, and produced a disappointing novel.
Interesting premise, main characters are a married couple, she is the first woman president of the U.S. and he is a former police officer. Lots of characters, perhaps not completely believable plotline but the characters make it work, a few stock characters but developed well into individuals. Somewhat of a black/white presentation ...more
Jim McGill is a former cop who just happens to be married to the recently-elected first woman president of the United States. To keep himself busy, he opens up a P.I. business (much to the displeasure of his Secret Service guards). But soon enough, he finds out that life at the White House isn't all bunnies and rainbows.

In the world of Jim McGill, the improbable has happened. The U.S. now has its first female president, and by extension, its first First Gentleman. Government agencies - including the politicians, CIA, and the Secret Service - don't quite know how to treat him, especially when he insists in opening up his own private investigations business. Yup. The First Gentleman is a gumshoe, and his first client/case is ...more
What do you call the president's husband? Many call him the president's henchman. He's a former cop and is a PI. He encounters those who threaten his children, a crazy and dangerous psychologist, and ...more
This book is a rather slow read. First, there is a multitude of characters and also story lines. Fortunately, the author has provided a list of characters. There is not a marking between scenes that can cause the reader to stop and recall which story line is the next paragraph. There is also a need for better proofreading and editing. I've decided to not continue reading past 60 percent. It's just too slow a read.
Galia Mindel (56, Patti’s Chief of Staff, Columbia; PhD PS, widow) gave President Patricia “Patti” Darden Grant (R, former congresswoman, Jim McGill 2nd wife, former supermodel/movie star) agenda for the day.

"The President's Henchman" is the first in a series of detective novels about James McGill, the First Gentleman of the United States. I downloaded it as a free offer.

Jim was the Chief of Police who solved the murder, and he and Patti eventually got married before she was elected as the firs ...more
A woman President, married to an ex-cop who has become a private investigator, his children, and a deranged doctor dabbling in mind altering cocktails, make for a story good from beginning to end. Not fast paced, this story tells a bit of back story of our main characters, enough to engage us and like or loathe certain characters. It balances multiple storylines at once...going between often enough we feel connected in real time to them all. A look at life for a "regular guy" as ...more

I stayed up until dawn reading this book. Ten President's Henchman is an entertaining and thrilling who done it that takes you through the corridors and streets of the center of America's power. McGill is a former Chicago cop, he decides he's not going to stay in the background so he gets his PI license and sets up shop in Georgetown. His first client is a well known broadcast jour ...more
