Sweet story with an interesting plot, but the drama got to be a bit much near the end.

I really liked the majority of the book. The characters had nice chemistry and the story flowed effortlessly. Sadly, near the end of the book there was too much drama for me and it also centered around the exes of both MCs. It derailed the story for me even though up to that point everything was moving along nicely.

One thing that threw me off was the cover. I guess it's supposed to be Nolan on it but he actually wore contact lenses most of the time. His twin brother was the one wearing glasses. And also, the dog. There are dogs in the story but they were pitbulls. I think the one on the cover is a yorkie, but even if I'm wrong about the breed it's definitely not a pitbull. Anyway, I don't think that the cover was the right choice.

I liked Harrison's relationship with his son, Troy, and the fact that Troy and Nolan were friends and run in the same circles.

This was a fun read and a nice way to spend a few hours.

This started out good. I’m all about substantial age gaps in books, and there were close to twenty years between Harrison and Nolan.

Harrison was the attorney for Diego, Nolan’s roommate. Diego was being sued over an accident that was in no way his fault. Nolan had been in the car with him at the time of the accident, so he was a key witness.

So far, so good.

Nolan met Harrison in his office, they discussed the accident, and there was some serious attraction happening between them. Long story short, they ended up seeing each other a few other times, and before I knew it, they were kinda/sorta dating and playing around sexually when Harrison had never been with a man before. Oh, he knew he was bi. He'd just never acted on it.

All that was fine. You know what wasn’t?

Troy, Harrison’s son and a friend of Nolan’s. I seriously hope like hell Troy never gets his own story. If he did, and I read it, I’d be wishing the whole time for him not to get a HEA, and for him to have a long and miserable life just like his bitchy mother.

Which brings me to Troy’s mother, and Harrison’s recent ex-wife.

What was the point of that woman other than to cause major drama? She’d cheated on Harrison with her tennis instructor. SHE’D been the one who asked for the divorce so she could be with the tennis instructor. So, why in the hell was she constantly trying to destroy Harrison? Jealousy? If so, that’s rich considering she was the one who cheated in the marriage, not him.

But wait… she didn’t just hurt Harrison – before and after the divorce, I might add – she also hurt Nolan. She also brought Troy into her little ploy as she tried her damnedest to hurt both men.

Well, the ploy worked. It hurt them both, and Troy went right along with what Mommy said like a little puppet.

There were no consequences for either the mom or Troy. Mom caused problems and was never heard from again. Troy, on the other hand, was forgiven, and all was just dandy.

Harrison was WAY too forgiving when it came to Troy. He was supposedly one of Nolan’s friends. He also supposedly loved his father. Yeah, no. He played a big part in hurting them both.

Which leads me to… wait for it… the ‘big misunderstanding’ that’s so common in books these days. You know what I’m talking about. The misunderstanding that could easily be fixed had the couple, you know, TALKED ABOUT THINGS. Did Harrison and Nolan do that? Of course not, though it wasn’t from lack of trying on Nolan’s part. He tried, but Harrison was too big of a wimp to accept his calls or return his messages.

I also didn’t like Noah, Nolan’s twin brother, much. He was a bit too judgmental for me when it came to Nolan. I know he does have his own story, but the jury’s still out on whether I’ll be reading it.

And finally, I never felt Harrison and Nolan together. What I saw was a 40-something man who’d always been attracted to men yet hadn’t acted on it who was exploring for the first time in his life. I guess I saw this as his little mid-life crisis. He got the new haircut (from Nolan), there was a little scruff happening on his face, and he went to a gay bar with Nolan and his much younger (than Harrison) friends. The only thing missing was the new Corvette, though he did drive a fancy car.

Also, the cover in no way works for this book. Nolan only wore contacts, not glasses. That was actually stressed in the book. His twin wore the glasses. And the main dogs in this story, Smokey and Bandit, were pit bulls. There were no Yorkies in the book at all.

Harrison and Nolan did get their HEA, but I’m truly not a fan of how they got there.

It’s undecided if I’ll be reading any of the other books in the series.

Smokey and Bandit are why I'm rating this 2 stars and not 1.

A Joyfully Jay review.

This is an interesting and sweet age-gap romance. Nolan and “Harry” have little in common but a shared attraction and few acquaintances. Troy and Nolan know one another casually through Diego, who’s low-key worried Harrison might drop his case if things go south with Nolan. Troy, when he finds out, is pretty shocked, but also worried that a younger partner (not specifically Nolan) might be more interested in Harrison’s wealth than in his heart. He loves his dad and is confused about the divorce.

Old Dogs and New Tricks was a lovely age gap, first times, friend’s dad romance with a gorgeous HEA. Harrison is older, divorced, and embracing his attraction for men for the first time. Nolan is younger, out and proud, and just what Harrison needs.

There are a number of roadblocks to Harrison and Nolan’s fledgling romance, of course age is a factor, but so is Nolan’s friendship with his son (not close friends), Harrison’s ex-wife, and the little fact that Harrison is defending Nolan’s friend in a legal matter, a matter where Nolan is also a witness!

Despite the road bumps, this was a low angst story with humour, a touch of heat, and a good dose of romance. I found this author’s writing style engaging and it kept me turning the pages.

I would be more than happy to read more books by Argentina Ryder.

This was an okay read for me. The age gap trope worked well, Nolan - the young vibrant hair stylist and Harrison the older settled lawyer were interesting as a couple. The whole story evolved as expected, with a little drama thrown in to keep the story going.
If I have one major complaint, it's that everything was completely predictable, there really is nothing that had the book stand out for me.
What also bothered me, is that the dogs in the story are pit bulls and the dog on the cover certainly is not (well covers having nothing to do with the content of the book is probably a gay romance specialty). Also the twins being called Nolan and Noah was often confusing, you had to figure out who was who at times.
So all in all this was nice enough to keep reading to the end, but honestly nothing to rave about. 3 stars for me.

This is a feel good novel, both men are feeling out of sorts. Nolan was cheated on and never finished college while his twin is a college professor. Harrison is a lawyer who just got divorced and while knowing he was bisexual never been with a man before. they meet because Harrison is representing Nolan's roommate in a lawsuit. They meet at Harrison's office to do a preliminary go over of Nolan's testimony as he was in the car when the accident occurred. They both recover and are attracted and fall in love. The story ended with Nolan going back to college and Harrison opening up a new law office to represent the lgbtq+ community.

Nolan is the MC and he has a twin brother and they are pretty much opposites: Nolan never did graduate from college but his brother is a college professor. Nolan is a hair dresser (so was my dad so that was a connection I made). Nolan meets Harrison who is a lawyer when Harrison's roommate hires him to represent him. Nolan happens to be a witness to the case so he meets Harrison when he meets him to discuss his eyewitness account. Finally, Harrison has to admit to himself that he is a bi man who's never acted on it...until now. I liked their relationship and how the plot was developed and held my interest.

I only need to read a few paragraphs before I decided to skimming through this book because I felt this book was boring and the story was not very engaging to me until I found one interesting chapter.

Nolan was in the club with his friends when suddenly his jerk ex boyfriend, Jake, showed up. He asked Nolan to danced with him and stupidly Nolan agreed to dance with him. They danced, when Jake put his hand on Nolan's hip, he let him. When he turned Nolan's body so his chest pressed to Nolan's back, he didn't do anything or said a word to Jake until he forced to kiss Nolan without his consent.

Oh my God, I really hate character like Nolan...!!!! I knew he was upset with Harrison but he didn't need to forget his sadness by dancing with someone else or in this worst scenario was with his ex boyfriend and he let Jake to touch him and danced together like Harrison never existed in his life. Turned out Jake was paid by Harrison's ex wife to approached Nolan and made a move on him. All that shit couldn't happen IF Nolan was flat out refused Jake's advance on the club but here I said again, Nolan was just stupidly danced like he didn't care.

Only got to 28% and was pretty confident I knew how 3 or 4 dramas would play out. All of which could probably have happened and been resolved in another 10%. Realizing that it would take the whole rest of the book… just can’t face it.

Others’ reviews have confirmed my prediction of the various dramas.

One point that was very annoying to me: Harrison is an experienced and (supposedly) ethical attorney. The trial is coming up in a couple of weeks. Nolan is pretty mature and rational. Nothing about their attraction suggested to me that they were experiencing intense burning desire that MUST be acted on. So why wasn’t there a mature conversation along these lines:
“I like you a lot”
“I like you too. I’d like to see where this might take us.”
“Me too. Let’s just get through the trial and then we can explore to our hearts’ content.”

Oh wait, I know why… because if that conversation had happened, the majority of the pages in this book would not have been needed.

Just my 2 cents

3.5 Stars

⭐️⭐️⭐️
3 Stars= It was an enjoyable read
🌶🌶🌶
3.5= Sex happens and is discussed in detail

This was cute and super quick read.

It follows the story of two bisexual males, a forty-six-year-old lawyer and a twenty-seven-year-old hairdresser, as they navigate their new relationship. The older of the two is also navigating acting on his attraction to men for the first time after his divorce from his wife.

The two meet while Harrison is working on a case with Nolan's roommate, and an instant attraction is sparked. While the two try to keep things professional, they can't help but start a relationship. While events unfold, there is some drama surrounding the relationship. Some are predictable, and some are not.

There are sex scenes in the book that are fairly detailed. So if that makes you uncomfortable, I would say skip over them and enjoy the rest of the story. They aren't very long. I will tell you that the term "wrinkled hole" is used more than once. I could have gone through my whole life without ever hearing a butthole referred to that way.

The only thing I didn't care for was the fact that Harrison talked about how he couldn't get involved with Nolan until his case was over, but a few pages later they are spending personal time together and partaking in sexual activities. All while the case was still very active.

I would also have liked to see the two characters spend more time apart while grappling with their emotions, with more groveling on Harrison's part.

Overall, I think this book is worth picking up if you want a feel-good story.

Old Dogs and New Tricks is such a cute age gap romance! It is about Nolan, a down on his luck hair stylist, and Harrison, a recently divorced attorney. When Nolan walks into Harrison’s office in need of help, Harrison is immediately intrigued by the younger man. Harrison is embracing his attraction to men for the first time after his divorce. Nolan is out a proud and a breath of fresh air for Harrison. There is an immediate attraction between the two men and they have insane chemistry. There are of course some road blocks to Nolan and Harrison’s happiness but they keep fighting because they know that what they have is worth fighting for. Nolan and Harrison made such a cute couple and I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series!

I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest review.

Right place, right time of life frees the mind. Nolan, gay and out, is a hair stylist much loved by his older clients. Harrison, a lawyer is adjusting after his wife, Jenny cheated, then they divorced. He is struggling to get used to his truly empty nest after his son, Troy graduated and got his own digs. Harrison also, now feels free to explore his sexuality. Troy and Diego are friends, Diego had an accident with Nolan as passenger. Harrison is representing Diego's and Nolan's negligence case. Harrison and Nolan, got to know each other during the case. They learned a lot about themselves and each other. Friends and family were a delight and a challenge. The path was bumpy, curvy with a bit of swirl. Does Harrison win the case? Does Nolan get his dreams? Will the age gap be a problem? Nice story. Good flow. Well done! Cute read. The premise was enjoyable and the writing kept my interest. Nolan and Harrison meet in sort of complicated circumstances, but their attraction was nearly immediate upon first introduction. As their romance continued, it was cute to see how Harrison was allowing himself to embrace his sexuality after a not so amicable divorce. However, the drama felt forced and cliched, especially when Nolan chose to be predictable in his naïveté. The club scene with his ex resulted in me providing Nolan with a few choice words. Of course, I did the same for Harrison’s ex wife as well.

All in all, a cute and quick read!

*Bonus: they have doggos in this book 🥰

Couldn't finish

How can you go wrong with a cute hairdresser that fosters puppies? It has cute dogs and the whole grumpy/sunshine thing. Maybe I just know too much about lawyers.

A lawyer wouldn't take a case outside their specialty. It's not doing anyone any favors. If a lawyer got involved with someone related to a case, they would refer the case to someone else, if they're ethical.

Harrison handles his attraction poorly from minute one. Nolan isn't much better.the Troy is an infant about this, especially considering he has gay friends. His and Jenny's behavior both reflect poorly on Harrison.

Besides just not liking the characters, they don't really make an effort to get to know each other. And the conflict flags in the middle. I don't recommend this one.

Nolan is a stylist and is in need of a lawyer. Harrison’s son is friends with Nolan and volunteered to help Nolan and his friend/roommate out. As the two get to know one another, sparks fly. They become friends first, which I really loved! This was my first time reading this author. I’d definitely be looking for more by them! The story was well written with a group of fantastic secondary characters. Overall, the story was really good, kept me glued to the pages! It’s really well written, the pacing flowed smoothly! Highly recommend! I’m voluntarily reviewing from an advanced copy that I received. My reviews are solely based on my thoughts and opinions.

Amazing!

I loved this book! The story of Harrison and Nolan begins with a court case and ends with a happily ever after! The two meet when Harrison decides to represent his son’s friend, Diego, in a court case. Nolan is a witness to the accident that brought about the case. The flirting begins immediately and I loved seeing how the relationship develops though they are trying not to go too far until the case is over. I loved Harrison’s journey as he navigates being with a man for the first time. Harrison’s ex wife and Nolan’s ex boyfriend will cause them a bit of trouble but all will work out in the end.

I read an ARC copy of this book and am volunteering my honest review.

Overall this book was so friggin cute. It was a very quick read at under 4 hours and I read it one read. It was too cute to put down. This was a new to me author but I thought that the story was well written and I would read them again and recommend this. Even though the story was short the relationship was well developed and was a nice slow burn. I absolutely loved both of the MCs and felt they had fantastic chemistry. It was the perfect blend of sweet with medium heat and just a little angst and drama.

I was going to rate this 5 stars but then came the drama and it was too predictable for me. I knew what was going to happen before it occurred.

This was a cute read. There were some things I loved about it. The pet rescue being something Nolan’s family were all a part of and their friends supportive of was great. Having Harrison and Nolan become friends first was another thing I think was a smart move. I did find the nosiness, questionable advise, and harmful plotting of friends and family to not only be very predictable but also ticked me off. Of course Nolan’s way of handling things didn’t help either and I kind of expected it just didn’t think he would be that dumb with who it was. I got this as an arc from GRR and will definitely read this author again.

Such a great book. I loved it from start to finish. A feel good book. An easy read. Very entertaining. Funny and sweet. The chances of Nolan and Harrison meeting are slim to none. But meet they do. Nolan and his roommate are involved in a traffic incident and the roommate is being sued. Both Nolan and his roommate are friends with Harrison's son and Harrison agrees to represent him. Harrison is recently divorced lawyer. The two get to know each other as facts are gathered for the case. An intense attraction develops in spite of the significant age difference and Harrison's lack of experience. Can they overcome the obstacles and find more between them? I highly recommend.

I requested this book as an ARC reader and I’m so happy I did. I really liked both main characters, Nolan and Harrison. Nolan is a twin and has felt like his brother was better at just about everything. His path crosses Harrison’s when Nolan’s best friend and he are involved in a car accident and their friend, Troy recommends his dad, Harrison. From the first meeting there’s a spark. Harrison has just gotten over his divorce and is ready to pursue his attraction to men, starting with Nolan, a much younger man.

I enjoyed everything about this story. And I hope to read more from Argentina Ryder.

I did enjoy this overall, but I also was missing some things. Like Nolan kept talking about sitting down and hashing things out with Troy, but that never happened. I would have liked to see more happen after Harrison decided to follow his heart (professionally and personally). It left on a HFN, but I think it could have been even more of a HEA ending. The dogs were adorable; I would have liked even more focus on them, especially when the rescue was a big part of Nolan’s life. It was a cute and fast read, but I guess I wanted some closure and more satisfaction on things that were left open in my mind at the end of the book. 3-3.5 stars, but rounding down to 3.

Harrison is recovering from his divorce and an attorney. He winds up doing a favor for his son Troy's Nolan. Nolan is younger but the age gap is not their problem. They become friends, they recognize that they are attracted to one another and become more. The favor turns out to be mutual as Harrison is encouraged to embrace and explore that he is bi, although he has not acted on it while he was married. He is now ready and Nolan is not only willing to help but sees the possibility for them to have a relationship. I liked their story.

Loved the age gap romance between Harrison and Nolan. I'm a fan of stories where the younger man is out and comfortable in his own skin and the older partner is still finding his footing in relation to his sexuality. It's handled beautifully here and the immediate attraction between the two is fun, hot and perfect in a romance, especially as they start by becoming friends before letting the romance heat up. There is enough law going on that we actually believe Harrison is a lawyer and see him working. Also loved that Nolan fosters dogs.

First time reading a book by this author. It is an age gap love awareness that you least expect story between Nolan a stylist and an attorney Harrison. Nolan is friends with Harrison's son and Harrison is handling Nolan's roommate's lawsuite claim. Harrison is coming to terms to his ex-wife's leaving him for the tennis coach and then being attracted to a much ypunger...man at that. A really great read and much of a heartfelt story as both Nolan and Harrison navigate their feelings of life, work as well as their family and friends. And who can resist puppies!!

I liked this one. Harrison was finally letting himself be himself and I loved that. It's never too late to start again. Nolan liked him exactly as he was, he loved that person and that's all iy should take to be with someone. I hated Harrison's ex wife, f*cking b*tch, she cheated on him and then heard he's moving on and decides to sabotage their relationship, like God, I hate those kind of people. Anyway, I loved them together, they each complemented the other and they fit, and that's what's supposed to happen when you love someone

Harrison and Nolan

Awesome low angst cute story.
Nolan and his friend Diego were in a car accident that was not their fault, but the person that ran into them was trying to sue them. When Diego’s best friend’s dad offers his services as pro bono Nolan and Diego take a chance on the lawyer named Harrison. Harrison is an older man and fresh out of getting a divorce. He is feeling old, not very handsome and his heart is hurting. When he meets Nolan the two of them begin to develop feelings as they get to know each other. Guaranteed HEA.
