“I found her, I saved her, and once I am Gahn, I will claim her. There will be no other tribe left for her but me...”

JOCELYN

I’ve identified an herb that acts as birth control for us humans on the alien planet we now call home. The only problem? We’re running out. We need more, and apparently the only place you can get it is one of the most deadly regions on this whole planet – the Death Plains. So I slot myself into a group of warriors travelling there to meet the new Gahn there.

Except everything falls apart as soon as we reach the Death Plains, and I’m separated from the men I came with. My only lifeline out in this hellscape is the arrogant, brooding warrior Razek who saves me from certain death.

Razek claims he will become Gahn, warlord of the Death Plains. It’s all he’s ever wanted. Well, all I want is to get out of here and see my friends again, hopefully bringing Razek back at the same time to join our new alliance.

But the more time I spend isolated with this proud warrior, the more complicated things become. And the more the heated tension between us thickens, the more it seems like becoming Gahn isn’t the only thing he cares about...

But Razek refuses to travel back to the settlement with me, trapping me in the Death Plains.

No matter how much my feelings for him grow, I refuse to be his prisoner.

I control my own fate. Even if, around Razek, I can’t control my heart.

RAZEK

I have only ever worked to achieve one goal: become the strongest of my tribe and rule as Gahn. I had almost reached this destiny when a strange, loud woman crashes into my life, confounding everything I know. Jozelyn is a spur in my side and a tiny fist around my heart. The Lavrika has not called me, but the longer we are together, the less I can fight my desire for her. Suddenly, becoming Gahn does not seem like my only, or even my most important, destiny.

But the stubborn Jozelyn refuses to stay in the Death Plains with my tribe. Infuriatingly, she wishes to return to the arms of my enemies. Even worse than that? She wants me to come with her and submit to their alliance.

I would rather die than bow my head to the other Gahns.

I must convince Jozelyn that I am her mate, her fate, and her future. The only one she needs.

Even if it pushes her further from me than ever.

The way that I DEVOURED this book. I can’t even describe it. We are now 2/7 on the diversity score. I just love this world and these aliens and this premise. It’s fabulous and I am enjoying it immensely. I also have to really appreciate how diligent Ursa Dax is with content warnings. It wasn’t a triggering concern for me at all, but I can imagine how helpful her thorough warnings are for people who might have had an issue.

Razek is adorable and wonderful and just as fabulous as any and all other men in this series. The next book is coming out in March and y’all are not ready for the person that I will become when my darling Xyan gets his own book. I promise you. This is my Joker.

Yes!!!!!!!!😍😍😍

I loved this one. I've been reading 📚 this entire series through KU, and I love the stories here. Some I loved more than others. But I'll give a hint to which ones are my faves.. though I've read this entire series in order thus far, I've only actually purchased books 1 and 7 to keep for my own Kindle collection 😁 So there you go.

This one was intense. Sweet. Hilarious at times, and freaking scary. And extremely, EXTREMELY 🔥

I loved and was here for every moment of it. Razek and Jocelyn were incredible together. And the events in their story were well written and intriguing to watch as they unfolded.

I recommend this series, but you must read in order.

All books are on Kindle Unlimited (KU)

This one wasn't a favorite of mine. The hero was a little too possessive(although they are all a little possessive, this just felt different) for me, constantly making decisions for the heroine and disregarding her wishes etc. In the end it all came together. I am SUPER excited to read Xyan and Serenas story. Xyan seems very stoic and private and I like that.

Loved their story. Felt super organic to the universe and the progression of their feelings and relationship is on par with what’s happened so far. Zoey is great and Razek is one of my favorite MMCs so far.

I loved this book but there was a lot missing too the ending seemed so abrupt like there should have been at least 30 more pages. Like we never really get the characters backstories to feel connected to them. It had a great story but it needed to be fleshed out a lot more for me.

I stared at him, slack-jawed, for a moment. At the lanky, dark-eyed, almost devilish beauty of him. The hard pull of long limbs. The expression that looked like he wanted me so badly he would destroy us both.

4.75 ⭐️

Okay, remember how I’d said that the last book was my favourite of the series? Yeah, scratch that – it’s this one. Yup, definitely, this one!

I don’t think I even have the words to properly describe my thoughts. I believe the author herself put it best: the story of Jocelyn and Razek truly is one of push and pull. Which is just so delicious, isn’t it?

Yet again, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed reading about a couple falling for each other long before the mating bond even comes into play (especially considering how much of a sucker I usually am for soulmate bond-induced forced proximity). The natural development of their mutual feelings without any outside influence makes everything even sweeter somehow.

I really liked both of our protagonists in this one; they really do match perfectly. Oh yes, Razek was yet again another territorial, testosterone-driven warrior dunderhead too stuck in his ways for most of the book, but we all already now that I like my fictional (alien) men like that. After all, it makes his change of heart later on in an honest effort to please his mate that much more satisfying to read about. I also fell completely in love with Jocelyn. For all the craziness she had to endure over the course of this story, she managed to keep a exceptionally cool head.

I must say that I also really loved discovering the Death Plains and the tribe as well as all the strange creatures that live there, all of which we hadn’t heard much about in previous instalments. Oh, and the fact that the baklok we’d learnt about last time was still actually going on was exciting, too! I was actually quite stunned by how much I enjoyed the action-packed plot, since that’s oftentimes not really my cup of tea.

The only thing which kept me from giving this book a full 5-star rating was that it seemed too rushed at times, especially towards the end. It’s a problem that all the books in this series seem to have; and if I’m being honest, something like that would usually bother me quite a lot. (The same way the unfortunately yet again quite numerous typos and punctuation errors do.) However, this series is simply so much fun and so easy to plow through that I can’t even care all too much.

I can’t believe that I’ve only got one more book to go now. I sincerely hope that more are on the way, because I for one sure am not ready to let this intriguing universe go yet 😫😫

Series: Fated Mates of the Sea Sand Warlords #2
Rating: 2 stars - It was ok

When Jocelyn realizes a group of warriors is headed to the Death Plains, she slots herself into the group to collect a specific herb that acts as birth control. The journey is long and dangerous. When she is separated from the group she finds herself being saved by a warrior of the Death Plains who claims he will be the next Gahn. He swears he will protect her but also refuses to let her leave his lands.

At first I was enjoying this story. Jocelyn is a decent heroine who just wants to help her friends by gathering the herbs they so desperately need. My issue is mostly with Razek and his overprotectiveness and refusal to listen to Jocelyn's wants. It got to the point where I didn’t really like Razek at all because he just kept planning to ignore Jocelyn's wants and needs for his own selfishness. Yes he changes his mind and goes along with her in the end, but not until she gives him an ultimatum.

Another issue I had with Razek was that when they were having a serious conversation about their relationship, he would be pleasuring her and it felt like he was just manipulating her to get what he wanted because she wasn’t thinking and acting clearly. I don’t love this at all and it just further cemented that I didn’t like him.

Overall, this was probably my least favorite book so far. I still really want to know how this future battle against humans is going to go but I am struggling. I might give it one more book and if I don't really enjoy it, I will stop with this series.

TW: death, violence, and blood; mentions of preeclampsia; pregnancy (in the other women); death of a family member mentioned;

Series: It's a straight up alien soap opera and I'm ok with that. I think it was interesting to come at this familiar trope (human women kidnapped and thrust onto alien planet for REASONS) instead making the kidnapping as part of a mission to explore a strange new world (ok I just kept doing the Star trek opening, but you get what I mean).

The women end up being a reason for separate tribes on the planet Zaphrinax to come together because of the hope of repopulating their numbers with the human women, as opposed to the typical alien villains kidnapping women for sexual slavery etc. The worldbuilding is enough to keep me engaged without getting lost in the minutiae. And the overarching storyline continues to build. I'm digging it, kinda the way I like IPB. Getting to know the Sea Sand folx and their Lavrika's blood that fixes everything, and the survivalist aspect, seeing how the human women are fragile yet determined to make it on this deadly planet. They were all selected for this "mission" because of their particular skillsets and that makes the individual stories click along. It can be a little predictable but I like the comfort factor of that predictability since the physicality and the sheer weird factor of the planet itself keeps things hopping.

This Book: Jocelyn and Razek - I like when the MCs get to choose each other instead of automatically having the MMC believing in his fated mate, so this was another fave entry.

I stumbled across Ursa Dax and her romance Fated Mates of the Sea Sand Warlords series after finishing up reading books from another author. I wanted something a bit different from normal romance and decided that Sci Fi romance was the go because anything can go. Let me tell you I really enjoyed them and read the whole series one straight after the other,
Alien men in all sizes and shapes, all growly and protective of their mates was just what I needed. Of course, it takes a while for the abducted Human women to come around but that is just part of the fun.
Ursa’s world building makes it so easy to imagine the world she has created, and the characters are so easy to fall in love with.
If you love Sci Fi romance that is messy, sexy, a little alien erotica and fated mates then Ursa is your gal.
I was not disappointed, and I know you won’t be either.

Yup, this was fun.

Our alien hero was kind of a crazy nut, which I appreciated. Our human heroine was into it. We had some primal kink, some literal bodice ripping, and generalized unhinged horniness—so good for her! 😂

The plot was also really fun. Our meet-cute/meet-disaster occurred during a multi-day trial to the death out in the wilderness. Lots of sharing body heat and getting attacked by monsters, my favourite.

I'm rounding up from 2.5. Razek is another hothead like Fallo but also seems to be a bit younger and arrogant on top of that. Can't say he's really my type nor does he really have any redeeming qualities or growth as a character. Bummer. Jocelyn is nice but I felt the whole time like she deserved better and could do better.

The two aren't completely hopeless - they were just intentionally written to aggravatingly butt heads repeatedly instead of work anything out, so they never get the chance to really make a connection or build anything. Razek COULD have been written in a way that wasn't so aggressive or that realizes a bit better and more clearly that he has growing to do. There's a little bit of it in the book but I don't think it was enough to justify calling it actual character growth and it didn't balance out the shit stuff he said or did.

Besides the characters - Okay. Okay. So, I get that there's cultural differences and they have this whole war and combat above all else mentality, but they are also struggling with a serious population decline. Why, then, would they still willingly lose multiple people from their rapidly decreasing numbers to wholly unnecessary deaths as part of the baklok?

And even if they engage in the baklok, the men participating clearly know each other given how small the tribe is. Why are they so nasty to each other? There wasn't any real explanation for that. Did they grow up as enemies or was it only the sheer bloodlust and power hungry aspirations for leadership that made them hate each other? I'm struggling without more to go on in the story itself.

I liked the way this new part of the landscape was very brutal but in its own way, complete with its own color scheme. I liked that the colors were reflected in their tents, clothes, even their eyes.
"In the centre of this area of stony ground, the five adult women sat in a small circle. Like Razek, they all had sight stars in unusually pale colours – icy pinks, smoky silvers, and powdery blues."

Okay sorry, back to how Razek sucks. Jocelyn even knows he sucks. At one point she thinks to herself:
"Maybe it seemed like he was doing the bare minimum. Like, wow, brilliant, he didn’t chop my friends’ heads off for daring to come rescue me. But I knew how intense and territorial these guys were. I knew how much bad blood was between them."

I mean yes, it absolutely does sound like the bare minimum, if that. He seems very short sighted and self-centered. Four children - 2 boys, 1 girl, and a tiny baby. That's the next generation of this tribe. It won't take multiple generations for this tribe to die out - it's already there. There's no way they don't realize this before Jocelyn shows up??? To be fair, even Gahn Buroudei says "You will not survive the next three generations without joining with us" but IT WILL NOT TAKE THREE GENERATIONS, WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK??? Y'ALL ARE IN SERIOUS DENIAL OR CAN'T THINK THROUGH THE PROBLEM. I was doing a lot of "ARGH!!" at the book while reading and this lack of sense is a major reason why.

Anyway. Meh. Could have done without reading it I guess but it was a fast read at least. Next up is Xyan, who I already like a lot, and Serena, who is in her 30s, so I have higher hopes for that one! Fingers crossed!

'Small female, you are in the Death Plains now. Forget those other men and everything's that's come before. The only path forward, the only one who can keep you alive now, is me.'

Wow-ee, this books brings the drama. Jocelyn's part of the group of earth women who have found themselves abandoned on the planet of Zaphrinax. As her friends fall in love with the enormous, kangaroo-legged alien men they're now living with, some of the women are keen to have all the fun without ending up with a bun (in the oven). Jocelyn's identified a herb that acts as a form of birth control, but unfortunately they're running out. It's native to the Death Plains, but let's face it, that doesn't sound like an ideal road trip destination. But when she discovers that representatives of the four tribes are headed there to meet the new Gahn (think badass warrior chief), she decides to invite herself along for the ride and bring back the herb her friends need.

However, as with all good romantic suspense, alien romances, on entering the Death Plains, she finds herself in a spot of bother when her party accidentally set camp on top of a nest of giant killer scorpion crabs. Facing imminent death, she's saved by an unfamiliar warrior. Yay! But WTF? Why isn't he wearing any weapons? Eek! Now hang about, has he just leapt on the back of that death machine with the aim of killing it with his bare hands? Oh, yes he has... But before Jocelyn can say 'thank you very much, kind sir, now please take me back to my friends', she's over his shoulder and he's running away...

Her rescuer is Razek and he's having a really bad day. he's taking part in a 'Baklok', a series of tests that decide who will be the next Gahn of his tribe. He's been sent out into the Death Plains to see if he can survive for three days and nights without any weapons, and things were tickety-boo before the men from the other tribes arrived with a puny, defenceless female and insisted on parking themselves on top of the biggest death trap in the middle of the Death Plains. Now he's wounded and not only has to survive the Baklok (which, just for funsies, might involve a fight to the death to decide the ultimate winner), but now also has to keep Jocelyn alive. And if that wasn't bad enough, she's making him feel things he never thought possible. Could this weak and tiny female be his mate?

Ursa Dax has done it again. Alien Victor is a fabulously fun fated mates alien romance, with all the heart, heat and humour I've come to expect from her. If you're after the ultimate in escapism, then check out this book. I absolutely loved it!

While I didn't mind this one too much, Jocelyn did get on my nerves a lot and I don't know if it had to do with the character so much as the whole repetitive BS about her wanting to go back and having a choice, etc.. and Razek was just as bad about wanting to keep her. I felt the whole book went in circles with them having the same conversation over and over again. Another thing that pissed me off was the clear direction of the book and it's "only women's opinions matter" message because in the end, the guys ALWAYS do what the women want them too once they are mated. I get that the author wants to show that women come first in her books but really... shouldn't you be promoting equality in books and not that one gender is better than the other but it really does seem like the only opinion that matters is the woman's. Jocelyn didn't care what Razek had to say, she wanted her opinion heard but not just heard, she wanted her desire to be the only one that mattered. She didn't hear him and that he didn't want to leave so instead she manipulated him to get what she wanted by promising to be his and give him sex. She honestly reminds me of Chapman, though the only difference is that Chapman manipulates everyone (just like she did to Kor, all the while telling Zoey she didn't have to mate with him, etc).

And the whole birth control thing... while I understand the need for it and all, the fact that once again nothing is really being discussed as a couple, and most of the women are just using it regardless of what their mate wants (though it's only really confirmed that Fallo knows and doesn't care), is again - all about women's voices only matter in the relationship, which is wrong; both voices matter.

I will say that I did like that they weren't pulled together by the mate bond and that it was just these two falling for each other although I can't exactly say they were a good match really.

I don't know.. maybe I'm reading too many of these books back to back and I should take a rest because the more I read, the more I end up disliking the women.

I'm only at 22% and ready to stop.

Once again, we get a lazy FMC role of someone supposedly from London. We know because she mentioned clotted cream and scones once, and another time referred to the MMC's hair as punk rock, "not out of place in London." Like London in the 1980s? What? I don't think even a fast Google search would throw up these out-of-date, supposedly British references. She mentions "the tube." Ooh, then she refers to the MMC as "Big Ben" when he stands behind her. Just super lazy for an author. And BTW, there's really no need to start to nationalize each of the FMCs, at least if you aren't going to bother to put the slightest effort into making them each real girls, Gepetto.

Here's a sloppy meet/cute for you. The FMC insists on searching for this specific herb AT NIGHT. Because we all know that herbs in the ground and sheltered by shadows are great to harvest at night. (Particularly when no mention has previously been made of needing to harvest st night, because there isnt one.) And there she gets saved by the MMC, who informs her there's no need to go back since everyone is dead. Yeah, he continues, because they were camped on a nest of predators! These predators are well known to the guys she was traveling with, but we're expected to believe they wouldn't be aware of that. Seriously?

We also get the obligatory crying, so there's that. Also, there's a constant referral to the human women having to wear sunscreen, sun glasses, and sun protective jackets due to the strong sun. Now, just a note here...so Earth had the amazing scientific knowhow to send a big ship to another planet, plan to find a substance there to translate it into a mega profitable fuel, but didn't have a better way to deal with the sun? Sure.

There are numerous annoying head scratchers in this checklist of a story, one of 15 in this series. I bailed without finishing.

could not put down

great book, off to read the next!

They are getting better more exciting but shorter over too quickly
This one had me completing two books in one night course I was unable to sleep. Read till morning
Now I’m off to collect book 8

Earth government has abducted women young college girls in a “forced” suicide mission to an alien dessert planet, to learn about their strange resources. They want to take it from them. However the primitive barbarian like males are not gonna just say sure, go ahead,take our sacred life giving dragon milk energy source. So instead of sending scientific or military trained professionals. The earth government kidnaps young professional women to get reconnaissance information with no intention or care as to whether the women survive or not. Why only, women you ask well.. the barbarians are probably less likely to kill them since they have so few of their own. But the sacred creature of this planet like a dragon god… has predicted the women to be mates for the primitive race. And could save their species and bring them together.
This is an earth abduction, alien fated mate romance. I was not triggered by anything in this book although there is some violence. Warriors will be warriors and they will fight to the death for their pretty earth mates
These aliens have tails, claws, talons, and unusual genitalia which is used in some very interesting ways to please the earth girls.
This lol is like Conan the barbarian, meets land of the lost .. meets earth girls are easy. Lol
Now I’m off to get the next in series

🔥 “Everything about you is an ecstasy. An intoxication. A calling in my blood.”
~~~
Jocelyn is one feisty female! And she’s so smart, kind, brave and compassionate. But what I absolutely adored about her is that she stood her ground no matter the fearsome alien standing before her! She’s absolutely amazing and I loved her so much!
And Razek is one truly intimidating male! Even more, he’s so bossy, confident, possessive, arrogant and fiercely protective. I really liked how much he cared for his tribe and the lengths he was willing to go to see it protected and thriving. And I adored that dirty mouth of his! That Sea Sand warrior is absolutely magnificent and I loved everything about him!
Everything that happened between Jocelyn and Razek was a delight to read! I loved that both gave as good as they got. And they were both so stubborn. I really enjoyed their banters and teasing. From the very first moment they met, their chemistry was undeniable. And Jocelyn really turned Razek’s life upside down. Even more, the passionate moments they shared were off the charts hot and I just couldn’t get enough of those two!
In addition, the worlbuilding was phenomenal. I loved that we got to explore the Death Plains and there are so many changes happening. I was glued to the pages till the very end.
Overall, the story is another marvellous addition to the series. It’s filled with danger, fast-paced action, humor, twists, scorching hot romance and wonderful characters.
I loved every single page of it and cannot wait to see what happens next!
Jocelyn has become a healer of sorts. Which is a pretty good job since it seems that humans and Sea Sand people are definitely compatible, if you get my meaning. She has also become aware of a plant that can be used as a contraceptive the issue is that they are running out of it and the only place that it grows freely is in the territory of the Gahn who died not long ago. That being the case they have yet to confirm the new Gahn which is yet another stumbling block in a potential alliance. However a peace mission of sorts is being put together and Jocelyn is determined to go along as well. The males can discuss alliances and she can collect plants. Great plan, except that the plan falls spectacularly apart. Jocelyn finds herself about to become dinner for the local wilflife until what appears to be a feral male protects her. Which was great til he then ran off with her! Razek, protected the small being out of sheer instinct. When he discovers she is in fact female and not of a race he has ever seen before he is more than a little confused. Even more so when she speaks of joining with his age-old enemies. What sort of sorcery is this? He is not yet Gahn and he somehow has additional tests sent to try him. Yet somehow he would submit to as many tests as it takes if he keeps this small female, irritating and fiery though she is, with him. This Jozelyn is somehow tied into his fate but how?
Ursa has done it yet again. Bringing us more of the Kangadudes we love and making us fall in love with even more of them. I really enjoy how every book branches out a little more on to the planet of Zaphrinax. While it is mostly a desert planet it is nice to see such vividly described differences in the territories of each tribe.
I know I say this about every new warrior that Ursa writes, but I freaking loved Razek. He’s broody, confident and maybe a slight bit feral and all of it aids to his allure. I enjoyed that this book was a little different from the others in that it started with a light enemies to lovers feel. I was 100% here for it.
Jocelyn may be one of my favorite from the group of humans. Not just because we share a name, though mine is spelled a little differently, but because she is so strong and willing to help all of those around her. I admire her standing up for what she believes in and working through every hardship she encounters to aid those around her.
The love story between the Razek and Jocelyn was much more wild than with the other aliens and their mates. I loved the push and pull. Ursa made the tension between them almost palpable. And that chase scene!?! So hot!
I continue to fall more in love with this series with each but and I am so excited to see more of the pregnancies as well as more of these sexy men finding their mates.
Alien Victor
The first time I read this book I was uncomfortable with the MMC. Like the last book, he is not as nice as some of the previous MMCs. But once again, I think it's actually good. He is distinct. There's a whisper of public humiliation at one point but it's pretty light and the MFC seemed okay with it.
Some funny parts I liked: in this genre, the women are forever having to deal with humanity’s complete lack of offensive and defensive natural abilities. Our bodies really are soft. As the MFC is describing how she needs sunglasses and sunscreen because humans skin burns so easily, the MMC thinks,
“I stared at her, dumbfounded about how someone so vulnerable had made it this far, even with the party of warriors escorting her.
“How are you even alive?””
I don't know why his question is so hilarious to me, it just is. Actually reflecting on our species history, I often wonder how any of us are still alive.
I also like the direct acknowledge that this MMC makes when he says,
“I must speak to my mate of all this,” I said stiffly, trying to reign in the sparking shower of everything happening inside my mind. “I cannot think straight without her.”
It's almost like these guys really can't do anything but fight, not like they are dumb, but like their only access to cooperative thinking comes from the women.
I really enjoyed Jocelyn and Razek's story/POVs. It was refreshing to add to the overall plot of having the last tribe introduced/encountered. I liked that the author has given this series a good amount of care and thought for the overarching world environment. Case in point the same and or new monsters introduced that are more equipped to the different environs of each tribal region.
I think Jocelyn's character was well written given the sci fi smut recipe and I liked her and Razek's back and forth. Although you would think this dyanmic may be similar to other previous FMCs relationships (Chapman and Fallo is the first to come to mind) the author has made sure to give each FMC their own unique line of thinking but not to the point where it's ridiculous leaps of knowledge.
I really like that the author has the FMCs even admit to their own shortcomings of character which I think helps make the FMCs more relateble to their situation.
Depending on how long my fervor for this series goes, I may try to pick these up for a copy since I've been enjoying the story and different relationships that have unfurled so far.
2.5/ alien H/human h /3 tongues /mates
This was a new author and an alien romance. It was good- not amazing but not bad. The HEA wassss less than I wanted… i am gonna assume we will see more of them in the next book bc in this one we see other couples also.
-H is alien battling for leadership in his tribe.
-3 stingier alien soooo she got some licks
-primal has 1 run/chase scene but overall it’s primitive alien stuff
-V card H bc no un mated females in his tribe
- h is a human who crash landed on planet
-she’s strong and sassy and she was super argumentative which annoyed me.
-some for play scenes but only like 1 fully there scene.
-marking- he 🥜 on her while they are messing around a few times which was hot and I liked
Idk if I’d continue. This seems like standalones but probably better read in order as some things are talked about but not really broken down so you know the story was probably told before in a diff couples book. I did this for a mindless read when I’m slumping and it was ok enough.
A 4⭐️ for me this time! I liked that this one has a different narrative in that the MCs choose each other. I liked Razek’s personality. He’s a bit of a watered down version of Fallo (Fallo is my fave character ever).
These books are really cheesy and like a Sunday tv show type soap opera but they are great for not having to think too hard or feel too hard either.
*******
I’ll apply the same below to all books in the series because it’s becoming a very repetitive theme for this author.
The one thing majorly majorly irking me about these books is that the women supposedly don’t feel the mate bond yet claim to be in love after 1 or 2 days.
The men claim how they’ve had to “work” to win the love of their mate.
It’s giving desperate.
It’s giving 12 year olds in the playground.
It makes me cringe.
We read these books for a good time; I know it’s not that deep or serious but i really really wish they’d give more time, more yearning; more background into the characters. This series could really *hit* if they just extended the timelines a little bit.
Jocelyn is off to find more of the plant that controls birth control for the humans on the alien planet they now live on. She finds that she's going to have to go to the Death Plains to get more of the herb. She goes on her adventure with a group of warrior but gets separated. She meets Razek who ends up saving her from death. He is battling to become the Gahn of the Death Plains. Razek is proud, possessive, bossy, and protective of his tribe. Jocelyn is strong and willing to help but she stands up for what she believes and isn't going to become his prisoner. She want's Rezek to go back to her settlement but Rezek wants to convince Jocelyn that she belongs to him and is his fated mate. Loved their relationship with their banter, teasing and steam. The story is also filled with danger, action, humor, twists and fantastic characters. Hate to see this series end. . I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
It's an okay read. Unfortunately, it was hyped up on Booktok and I fell for the glorious reviews there, so I came I expecting a lot from this book. That is a sure way to get dissapointed, as it happened here. It is a very typical "Mars needs women" and "fated soulmates" tropes. The only fresh bit of the book was who are the original abductors of women and how they got to this new planet. After that, it is an easy, breezy ride with no palpable storyline to sustain it. Plot is simplistic- how to get both main characters together.
Writing. It sometimes is really good and sometimes meh. Almost like a collaboration between two different authors, where one provides sufficient descriptions and place settings and another just frivolously slaps dialogues around. Somehow it still works, but it definitely lowers the overall quality of the writing.
Recommend it to ppl , who look for a very typical alien romance, where the romance itself is the plot.
