As if crushin’ on a shifter wasn’t bad enough, I had to go and date one.
A mage and a shifter walk into a bar… No, that’s the whole joke.
Magi and shifters don’t mix, and yet I find myself in a relationship with Cosmo, a lion shifter. And on top of that, Cosmo, and all his pride members, consider my brothers and me to be a part of their pride. Three magi in a shifter pride. Who would’ve ever thought?
Navigating our connection while trying to figure out what’s going on in the world isn’t easy. Trusting that Cosmo means forever when he says it? Even harder. But if there’s one thing I’ve learned since meeting the Ono-Nais, it’s that taking a risk with my heart will be worth it to be a part of their lives.
The Shackles That Hold Us is a 113K novel and the second book in the MM urban fantasy series, The Magi Accounts. It’s recommended to read the series in order because it has an ongoing storyline.
*Intended for adults only. Please read the trigger warnings at the beginning of this novel.
Michele is married to an awesome guy that puts up with her and all the burnt dinners she makes—hey, sometimes characters are a bit distracting, and who doesn’t plot when they’re supposed to be cooking? They live together in Baltimore, Maryland with two little monsters, a three-legged princess, a four-legged goofball, and a cutie with giant ears (aka their two kids, their two cats, and their dog). She hopes to rescue another cat soon, and if her hubby wouldn’t kill her, she’d get more than one… and maybe a few more dogs as well.
She loves creating worlds filled with lots of love, chosen family, and of course, magic, but she also likes making the characters fight for that happy ending. She hopes to one day write all the stories in her head—even if there are too many to count!

-All of the dystopian angsty feelings it tears out of you—stockpile tissues as your heart will be hit with tidal waves of emotions. Even the villain, who I’m really hoping will find their own tortuous end, is so evil, so atrocious that I just can’t with it all, has an undeniable impact. -All of the banter and funny moments that fill me with happiness and joy—I want to join this pride and be part of the family, especially when Mads wakes up early. I love the way they band together for the lows and the highs. -All of the realistic, heartwarming and heart wrenching ones as Mads struggles to trust in what he’s found—I want to hug that prickly mage but it’s so refreshing watching him slowly let go. —All of the honest and touching ones that Jude and Cos have as they navigate their way—gah, these ones, these ones are love at its best. It may not be typical but their relationship is beautiful. -And of course, without a doubt, all of the tender, swoony, ooey, gooey, incredibly intimate moments with Cos and Mads, but not too ooey, gooey cuz you know, Mads —
“He smiled against my lips. ‘You’re cute when you pretend to be mad.’ ‘For the hundredth time, I’m not cute.’ ‘Mhm.’ ‘Ugh. I don’t even know why I like you, kitty cat.’”
I thought my heart would explode watching these two grow so much closer and stronger together. They’re so fantastic, so incredible, so perfect for each other, they make me breathless with feelings and I am so in love with their love.
“What we had was special. It was amazing. And it was ours.”
Is it any wonder I can’t function now after reading this absolutely phenomenal book? I’m at a loss with how I’ll make it until the next one, but I know one thing for sure: A single moment in this epic world with this amazing family will never be enough. I promise.
the sappy shit sure let me put my guard down. and then bam somebody's dead💀💀.
also, why's everyone ignoring the fact that Mads injured a taragorian. all. by. himself. 🔥. (could've killed it too idk why he didn't go for it) like that's what i was looking for. some baddassery to match his level of power at last😌.
but honestly though i don't get this whole magi and shifters to take down the monsters thing. they could take them down seperately too if they just knew how to use their powers properly. half their problems would already be solved ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. but i guess the story is still entertaining.
I am drowning in my own feelings and need more. First off, I stand by my opinion that Cosmo is a cinnamom roll, too good for his gory AF job. And while Madeo is as prickly as a cactus and as aloof as any if his cats can get, he's also a cinnamon roll. I'm glad the story in moving forward and that they're getting the chance to sit more solidly in their own relationship. I with the world was fairer, but isn't that part of the charm of this world? Now, the stakes are rising, the relationship is more solid, we have a solid antagonistic force outside of the government, and we get to see more! Kudos to Michele for managing a balance between the outer world problems and the in house relationship development, not just between Madeo and Cosmo but between the magi and the shifters as a whole. Now, to hoping Jude gets a chance in the next book too.
Relationship goals, check! But why would humans get witch training. I know, I know mages and shifters weren't public knowledge before the rift. That the witches opened. Know the reason for them doing so is revealing to a point.
Humans scared of shifters. Found a way to force mages to combat them. Humans continue to reach for more. Such a greedy bunch. I wonder when enough really will be enough! Cause all I see are the monstrous results. Why can't humans be satisfied? You didn't have magic. Now you can craft. But the choices made is destroying communities.
Talk about a book comming up with a way to discuss American history from the landing for supposed religious rights. Onto the enslavement of a people. The fear of reprisal leads to more dirty deeds. Instead of getting use to the new normal.
The Shackles That Hold Us continues the story of Madeo, Cosmo and Jude along with their pack.
It's a good follow-up to the first novel and there are a lot of things going on in the story. The early parts of the book focused a bit on the development of the team's relationship and how far it has grown. We get a a deeper look at the team dynamics especially during the scenes where they had to deal with cases that were assigned to them.
The main plot for this story is much easier to follow, though the over-arching one got more interesting and intriguing. The world-building for now is a bit toned-down but additional glimpse into the magi culture was provided though at a very painful cost. More information was provided about the witches in general and one of the most powerful organization in this world - the Shifter World Council - has been revealed.
This installment has a lot of action going on but there is also a good chunk of slice of life scenes thrown in between as a breather for the high octane sections. We learn more about Jude and Mad's childhood trauma and as well as some on-page painful experience for mages in this dystopian world. The story is mostly told from Mad's point of view, however there are some chapters that shift to Cosmo's perspective and that adds additional depth to the story. This book also showed a look at Cosmo's past and the tragedy that fell on his family and pack.
The found family aspect was given more focus this time and I am all for it! Seeing these two wounded magi slowly opening up more to the Ono-Nai pride who has adopted them - seeing them laugh together, tease each other and just generally hang out together the way a family would is a bright spot in this rather bleak, awful world that they live in.
Cosmo and Madeo's relationship grew and deepened over the course of this story. With every obstacle they faced here, with every secret shared and every burdened shared only strengthened that bond they share. They bring out the best in each other and even though there were moments where they have some disagreements, they never let that totally destroy whatever they had. I loved the sweetness in their romance and totally adored the hurt and comfort that is sprinkled all throughout the story.
Some of the supporting cast had their time in the spotlight and had some really good character development. I am looking forward to more of that in the future installment.
Overall, this had been an enjoyable read with its intriguing over arching plot, fascinating world and endearing characters. I do recommend giving this series a read and start with the first book as this is not a standalone story. Please head the warnings provided especially regarding the on page physical and psychological torture.
This book is book is 4.25 stars out of 5 stars for me.
I received an ARC of this book via GRR and I have chosen to publish my fair and honest review.
*please read trigger warnings* I swear, Michele's world and character building is just incredible. You'd think after The Ellwood and Brinnswick Chronicles series' that it couldn't get better but The Magi Accounts matches them on every level. The family that has been has come together, even reluctantly with Mads, is heartwarming, fun and fiercely protective of each other. The action scenes are intense, non stop and packed with so much going on. The on going series arc has both the characters and readers trying to figure things out with very little information to go on. Then, the relationships that are building - friendships, familial and romantic - are entertaining, endearing and loving. Mads is a lot of fun to read as he can be quite the contradiction. Stern, fierce and intense but with growing bonds with the Ono-Nai pride and especially Cosmo, his softer side occasionally peeks out making it all the more worthwhile to see. It's a strange time for them as it's always only ever been him and Jude, his dyad. Then the rescued and basically adopted Logan as their little brother and now he has Cosmo. There's no getting rid of the lion alpha, partly because he's their team leader but also because of the soul bond they now share. They were close before that but now there's a whole other level of sensing what each other is feeling. Events in this book bring them closer through the extreme lows and also the lighter moments they manage to find as a pride. There are a couple of scenes/chapters that I found quite tough to get through because of the content but it's something that ends up showing the inner strength of Mads and Jude, what Cosmo will do to protect his pride and bonds them all closer together. The lightest moment for me actually came in the final chapter and really brings a smile to the characters and the reader's face. Overall, this series is insane, crazy good and something I can highly recommend to fans of fantasy/PNR. The final action scene must have been planned out in minute detail for all that goes on and for what it might mean for the group going into the next book. We do have the majority of the book from Mads POV with the occasional chapter from Cosmo but I would be very interested for some or a whole book from Jude's considering progressions made in this book. I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.
The half star was gained because of the epilogue and the Kitty Cat song incident! Unfortunately it was a very small and hasty epilogue so I'm not rounding up.
I loved the first book, The Scars That Bind Us, but this one it felt filler like, with the guys going on missions, crap happening and Michele hitting us with boat loads of angst and all the feels BUT to me for pretty much 90% of the book it was like there was no end goal.
What I mean by "end goal" is that we have a series (I don't know how many books it will be) with no clear villain (at least not a clear one till almost the end of this book), no secret mission of a revolution to fight for Magi Rights or finding a way to get rib of the chips behind their ribs so that they can leave the US. And these 2 books are BIG ones, 400pgs!, and there was nothing except how bad Magi really have it and how even the shifters participate in their abuse. That was fine for book 1 to give us the deeds for the MCs but in book 2 I was expecting more when it came to how things will play out in future books.
At the end, as I mentioned above, a villain was revealed but for me it's weak because it seems to have nothing to do with the Magi being able to gain some basic rights by the end. Yes probably Michele Notaro will twist and twirl her plot to get it there but do I want to go through another 400pg book were we just plod along and wait for things to happen to the MCs instead of them making sh!t happen?
And when I say sh!t happen I mean investigations, searches, some ground work at least. Okay I won't put all my dissatisfaction in this to the MCs because to me it seemed like the NHSO is just sitting there with their thumbs up their butts doing nothing. So you have a government agency just not doing any investigations at all? Yeah they care more about human lives but it seems like they share just 1 brain cell because things happening to the shifters and magi are for sure then progressing to the humans and hello? you have sacrificed your living weapons and shields! DUUUH!!
Do I even want to go into the SWC and how the spend 3hrs in a meeting talking about packs relocating and stuff and then a pageant worthy introduction opening for Cosmo to present himself, but they had ZERO knowledge of at least 5 whole packs going missing?! What is the point of them??!
So yeah I loved seeing the progress Jude, Madeo and Logan had with the Ono-Nai pride but anything else just moved at a snail's pace.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Audiobook review I always jump on any chance yo get a book from this series and I love Audiobooks ... so I was soo happy to get the Audiobook ARC.
I still loved the book and CJ Storm brings this story perfectly alive. I fell in love with all of them again and can't wait for more books and Audiobooks.
First review so, lets be honest for a moment .. .before falling in a gush-festival of epic proportions:
I loved, loved, LOVED the first book in this series and the 1.5 book from Cosmos perspective was the icing on the cake (and i would say mandatory reading for this series). So therefore, it was a expected that I would love this one as well ... and I did. I really did because ... it has everything I wanted.
this one is kind of hard to read inbetween and it is not always a fun-ride. but I think, everyone who read the first book (which is necessary, as this is NOT a stand-alone) knows that Madeos books never will be without a bit of hurt and angst.
this book includes a lot of action, drama, and a lot of feelings. the story arc is not finished and I hope there will be more books than the next promised 2 in this series. I want them all from Madeos and Cosmos POV and then Judes plus his love interests (I really hope for an MMM here!!!)
so, if it maybe was not clear till now ;-) ... I absolutely loved this book and can recommend the series whole-hearted
an ARC was provided by GRR and I am happy to give my honest review.
The metaplot of the Magi Accounts series continues here, and the events from the end of the first book are a foreshadowing for worse things to come. This book is long and, at times, heavy. There is on page torture of main characters, and a quite a bit of the violence of war. The dystopian world Notaro has created is extreme in a lot of ways, especially in regards to the treatment of the magi. We saw a lot of that in the first book, but here it goes to a whole new level.
The first half of this story is more heavily focused on the relationship development. I felt it could do with some tightening up as it covers the same ground in several different ways. Mads has a huge chip on his shoulder, and it’s completely understandable why. And he softens here some in this book, and definitely has huge growth in the trust department. The action in this section serves minimal clues, and the focus is more heavily on Mads and Cos, as well as the magis’ growing relationship with the pride. And while this was necessary to some degree, especially as Mads’ walls break down and he comes to trust Cos and the pride more, I was wishing for a tighter narrative here and not so much repetition.
The Shackles That Bind Us is book 2 in the series and they need to be read in order.
While I'm still enjoying the series, for me, this book wasn't quite up to par with books 1 and 1.5. I felt the way Madeo waffled with his decision to move with Cosmo and his pride made me want to shake some sense into him. I understood his reasons for not jumping into it, but it got tiring after the first few times when it got hashed and rehashed over and over.
Also, this was a darker read, there were some scenes that were truly harrowing and I had to skim a little through them.
I really liked seeing Madeo, Jude and Logan interact with Cosmo and his pride, they really feel like a family. Cosmo is a big, fluffy lion and I adore seeing him melt with Mads, who can be quite prickly. Cosmo and Madeo were really sweet and hot together, though.
I'm really liking Harriet, almost as much as I'm hating Anderson, who I hope gets what's coming to him.
Overall, a good addition to the series, even if some parts were hard to read and others felt like the story dragged a little. Recommendable!
*** Copy provided to Bayou Book Junkie for my reading pleasure, a review wasn't a requirement. ***
This was so good. It is not a stand-a-lone. Also, be warned, there is on page torture. Poor Mads & Jude are taken back to the compound and Anderson has a week to punish (insert torture here) them. It's horrible and I can't wait for Anderson to die a bloody death. So, we have Cos & Mads are slowly working on their relationship and Mads starting to believe that Cos really wants him. He is so scared that if something happens to their relationship, Cos will throw them all away. Cos also has been asking him to move in & he doesn't want to because again if they break up then they would be without a home. We find out what the witches are up to & they are just batshit crazy. It's heartbreaking the lengths they will go to, to get power. I can't wait for more.
I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews and this is my honest opinion
Man, I so wanted to like this series. The world is interesting and I started to root for the characters. But the author is going way too much in terms of sappiness, affirmations and it's become repetitive. It's overwhelming the story and the plot. Another thing that's bothering me is the writing style. It's more telling and not showing. At times it reads like recitation. *sigh* I am bailing from the series.
DNF ... the 1st books half part was so amazing than something happened and it went downhill... the style is not for me, overly detailed, shallow conversations, shallow personality... it's not the same style i used from this author.
The series ends here for me ... *sigh i prefer to wait for quality than to be "rewarded" with quantity. :(
I read to get away from reality but these books thus far doesn't seem to be able to go to happy ever after! The species change to protect the innocence (?) it like reading history of my race, with uncaring people and harsher government! 😫
Madeo was much more tolerable in this book even though his fight with Cosmo after getting released from the compound was annoying. Also, Cosmo is a bit of a doormat. I really like Jude, River and Kulani. Characterization aside, this book is kind of dark.
Not a standalone. The Shackles That Holds Us picks up about a month after the events of A Kiss to Revive Me book 1.5. Cosmo and Mads are growing closer and closer and watching Mads continue to lower his guard is great. Cosmo has the patience of a saint and it was great to have a dual POV book. Especially at the difficult times. This book has a lot of light moments between our MCs but there is also a LOT of heavy. The story, while moving along nicely, is dark and there are several potentially triggering issues so be forewarned. We learn more about witch magic and we see more of the underground movement. This book (and the entire series) is incredible. I’m all in my feels but hard to say without giving away spoilers.
I’m really wanting a Jude book eventually! What was hinted at earlier is becoming more glaring now and would be so interesting! I’d also love to see the series stretch years giving Logan time to age up cuz he deserves an HEA too. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
⚠️ POTENTIAL SPOILER ALERT FOR TRIGGER WARNING ⚠️
Some potential triggers: on page physical and psychological torture; mass murder/human sacrifice
Oh Mads, my heart is broken because all of the things you and Jude have been through, I cry like crazy with this book! This story continues with Madeo and Cosmo getting to know each other and their past, what is happening with their ongoing struggles on Mads trusting the shifters and aloud himself to be love, this book is definitely hard to read because of what happened to Mades and Jude, I struggle a little reading what they have been through all the time on the compound and the loss of new friends but watching them finally accepting that they are part of the pride and that they are important makes me so happy for them, Cosmo is so special and sweet, I love how he give Madeo his space and is there for him, their bond is so sweet to watch. I like the family they found together!!! I hope Anderson suffer a very painful death! I hate him!!! Please Michele don’t make me ugly cry in the next book!! Lol… can’t wait to know what happened next!
So we are back with Mads and Cosmo and this book has a little bit different tone. While I thoroughly enjoyed this book, I felt it wasn't as fast paced. Though, looking back, that might have been my reluctance to read what happens toward the beginning to Mads and Jude. Then the aftermath of that incident.
This seems to set witches up as a mutual danger to everyone. Although I'm sure humans wont see it that way entirely (in the book). Big impacts on shifters in this installment, and better understanding of the terrors Magi go through. Lots of heavy stuff in this book to get through. What balances that out is the growing bond between Mads and Cosmo. And the growing bonds between the pride and all three of our Magi. A great continuation of the story to date, and a teaser of another little short novella forth coming!
A truly phenomenal read. This was so freakin fast paced that I didn’t put it down until the last sentence was read!! Who needs sleep anyway!! Madeo and Cosmo story continues. There lives are full of action, danger, drama and love! The Shackles That Hold Us will break you and put you back together again, such an emotional roller coaster ride. Cos will put everything on the line to save and protect Mads and Jude. Cos will have to make life saving decisions that could potentially hurt or save his pride/family. Overall, The Shackles That Hold Us is an phenomenal read, I cannot wait for the next one! It was really well written; the pacing was fast and flowed smoothly. A must read!!!
Madeo and Cosmo story continue with more danger and sweet moments. Their connection deepens as the events unravel dangerous and hurtful situation, decisions are made that could shake their trust and new bonds of friendship and family are formed. New possibly romantic relationships take form, the threats gets more changeling and the aftermath more heart-breaking. I loved the action and the bonding time, the way they comfort each other in their time of need and the protective feelings that emerge from them all. It was an amazing read and can't wait to see what happens next.
I am loving this series but you need to read from the beginning as it is a continuing storyline of Magi, shifters and humans. Mads and Cosmo grow closer together while being part of team for battle. Love the closeness of the two MCs as Mads realizes that he is loveable. Great action and camaraderie between them. Looking forward to reading the next one in the series.
This was a wonderful story. I love seeing how Madeo and Cosmo's relationship evolves and how they all connect in the pride. I hated seeing how Jude and Madeo got hurt because of the sadistic captain but was glad that Cosmo was able to rescue them eventually and make their status more solid. Even though it took a bit for Madeo to accept how much Cosmo and the others wanted them around once he did he was all in.
“The Shackles that Hold Us" is book two of The Magi Accounts series by Michele Notaro. I only have good things to say about this one; I was so hooked on the book that I devoured it in a couple of days. I particularly liked how the story keeps developing and exploring emotional depths. In this line, this book has some heavy stuff on page: from emotional/psychological and physical torture and abuse to violent deaths of loveable characters. At the same time, this opens the way for the MCs to keep growing up and learning to rely on others - particularly in Mad's case. Cosmo will have direct experience of the oppression and discrimination that magi have to face on a daily basis now that he is magically bonded with Mads and in the process of claiming Mads and Jude. At the same time, Jude will find himself in a lovely love triangle situation that will need resolution in the next instalments. All this is backed up by a well-paced plot and Michele Notaro's good writing style, which allow the MCs to catch the readers' interest. Particularly well addressed are, in my opinion, Mads and Jude's return to the compound - which gives this book a lot of insight into the whole series - and the grey areas and ethically ambiguous characters that the magi's social standing (or lack thereof) results on, with Harriet and Mr Hough being prime examples of this. In the end, the "shackles that hold us" might refer to either that which upholds us or keeps us down - and sometimes, the distinction might not be as clean-cut.
I have received an ARC from GRR and this is my honest opinion.
Wow! Where to start? Firstly, The Shackles That Hold Us is not a standalone, but don't worry the preceding installments are brilliant…dive in! Secondly, please pay attention to the trigger warnings - there are some pretty dark events and heavy situations in this book.
That said, I think only Cosmo, the giant cuddly lion shifter cinnamon roll that he his (along with his equally wonderful pride of shifter kin), could bring the kind of light that Mads, Jude and Logan need after all the horrors they’ve suffered - and continue to endure at the cruel hands of people who think themselves superior to the magi. Ugh…so many feels! The emotional hangover after reading this is real, but so worth it!
I'm also still loving the world building in this series - the dystopian environment, the other worldly threats combined with those much closer to home giving the storyline a constant edge. This installment is as pacy, action packed and exciting as it is excruciating in the bits that seriously tug on the heartstrings. As for Cos and Madeo’s growing bond, including the lion shifter’s easy acceptance of the Magi's need for Jude (sometimes a physical need for or to comfort - but not like that), well that's just a thing of beauty. It's all the stars from me for The Shackles That Hold Us…can't wait for book three.
A copy was provided by GRR. This is my honest review.
Things are changing, subtle but still. Harriet is growing on me as well as the other magi. It feels as if the one group - the one team that is good and fair to one another is the one drop in the water that has a ripple effect on everyone around them. And with Cosmo .
Madeo is still quite reserved about his past and keeps a lid on everything that might hurt him deep inside but he is starting to thaw. Especially his bond with Cos is strengthening and even though he still has a hard time speaking his mind he gets more comfortable showing and "sending" his affection.
There were moments when emotions overwhelmed me and I actually cried and I am known for not crying easily. They were tears of sorrow, empathy and at the end relief.
Jude and Cos are also getting more comfortable with one another which I am really glad to see for both of them. Jude deserves all the love and I can't wait to see what will happen in future books and how his friendships might develop into something more.
I love this new family/pride and can't wait until I can get my hands on the next in the series!
If I could give this book like a billion stars, I would do it in a heartbeat. Michele delivers yet another smashing instalment. This story was one massive emotional rollercoaster - I smiled, laughed and cried my eyes out.
Mads and Jude went through a terrible ordeal which left me feeling numb.
Cos and the gang were amazing: their hearts were always in the right place.
The narrator did a fabulous job bringing the characters the life.
*I voluntarily read this book. All opinions stated are solely my own and no one else's*
Cosmo still struggles with his feelings about Madeo. He want’s Madeo in the Pride home where not only Madeo but Jude, Logan and their trio of cat’s can live with protection, safety and love. But Madeo lives in hidden fear, that if all goes wrong, they would no longer have a home with the Pride. What freedom they have now would be lost and the struggle to start again would be a failure for the mages.
The Pride has been called out on another assignment to protect a mall filled with humans and shifters. The veil has again been crossed by the taragorian creatures. As Madeo and Jude collaborate, it’s an exhausting job of runes and magic. Orders come down, when all humans are cleared of the mall to bring down the mall. But knowing there are shifters left behind, Madeo continues with his magic to save all.
But Madeo and Jude are not looked at as heroes, they are imprisoned at the magi’s compound. Once again they face the horrifying abuse and torture that still have them living in nightmares. The only one that will go above and beyond for them is Cosmo and the Pride. Cosmo will do everything to protect Logan and the trio of cats until he can free Madeo and Jude from their hell. But freeing Madeo leads to conflict between him and Cosmo and trust is a hard thing to come by.
There are still tears in the veils and taragorians to fight so the TRD Ono Nai Pride team along with Jude and Madeo are back in action. But something is not right, why are groups of shifters being slaughtered. Why after all this time are witches sigils appearing at tears in the veil?
“The Shackles that Hold Us” brings old horrors and new outlooks into the lives of Jude, Madeo and Logan. “The Shackles that Hold Us” is dark theme, in the sense of the abuse and torture that Madeo and Jude are subject too. They also deal with reoccurring nightmares of their trauma. The Pride itself have to deal with the dark side of shifter’s death and trafficking.
There’s also many good moments happening in the Pride home. Madeo, Jude and Logan start to adjust and really become an important part of the Pride home. Friendships and relationships continue and begin to blossom. Logan starts training with Madeo and Jude. New and old emotions still crop up and it takes lot’s of understanding to the Pride home to succeed.
The new TRD team of: Maisy Poole, Ashley, Lilibeth and Lane, is a bettersweet moment. And there’s more new surprise boarders for the Pride home: Haiden, Elzanna and Teo. As for the NHSO, I still dislike Capt. Harriet Gray, I feel like she could do more. Mr. Hough, the Magi’s Compound Head, was a disappointment. As it seems his hands were tied, even knowing Madeo and Jude are the highest level magi’s. Then there’s the evil humans of the NHSO: Director Davis and Capt. Bobby Anderson.
“The Shackles That Hold Us” is the second book in the “Magi Accounts” series and Michele Notario keeps it just as exciting as book one “The Scars That Bind Us”. It’s packed with various emotions, romance, friendships, danger, action and loaded with spells and magic.
