This comic tells the story of Tarzan of the Apes, but it tells the story according the ERB chronology, before Tarzan met a certain Jane he lived his life among the great Apes. While ERB did later on in his writings return to Tarzan and his adventures among the Apes this comic adapts them into the story so this installment is truly Tarzan of the Apes and his journey through life. The story is well done, I recognize parts of the Jungle tales of Tarzan, having that book as well in my collection, and gives a lot of early Tarzan. The art is good to great and Pablo Marcos more than delivers. Overal pleasure to read and enjoy the writings of Edgar Rice Burroughs on the subject of his most well known creation.
Tarzan of the Apes chronicles the early life of Tarzan, from the pre-Jane portions of Tarzan of the Apes to selections from Jungle Adventures of Tarzan. Roy Thomas supplies the words and Pablo Marcos and Oscar Gonzalez are the art team.
If there was such a thing as Tarzan: Year One, this would be it. I thought the coloring was overdone but it was good jungle action, even though I've read versions of parts of this in other comics by other artists.
I’m liking these books. Roy Thomas is reliably good with this type of material. Pablo Marcos is a name I recognize from “Savage Sword of Conan” days, and I liked his work here. It sometime seemed to dark but I don’t know if that’s the printing or the coloring.
