About the author
Tsukasa Hōjō
755 books97 followersTsukasa Hojo (北条司) is a Japanese manga artist. He studied technical design while still at Kyushu Sangyo University, where he began to draw manga. He worked on several one-shot stories before releasing his serialized works: Cat's Eye, City Hunter and Angel Heart.
Hojo claims that he really did not have any inspiration for these works other than having to meet a deadline. He says he wrote down a few things, he thought about a few things, and one day the ideas just came to him, out of thin air. In reality, the process was a lot more complicated, with editors involved, but fans got the benefit of Hojo's sense of adventure and humor.
After the success of Cat's Eye and City Hunter, Hojo went on to work on other series such as Family Compo. His current ongoing series is Angel Heart, a spinoff of City Hunter set in an alternate universe. It has been serialized in the Weekly Comic Bunch since 2001 and 30 collected volumes has been published so far.
Tsukasa Hojo is Takehiko Inoue's mentor. Inoue worked as an assistant to Hojo during the production of City Hunter. Hojo is also a long-time acquaintance of Fist of the North Star illustrator Tetsuo Hara, who was also one of the founders of Coamix. Hojo contributed to the production Fist of the North Star: The Legends of the True Savior film series by designing the character of Reina.
He was honor guest of the eleventh French Japan Expo which was held in July 2010.

Pretty decent funny/crime manga series, the story was good but dull at times 😁😴👌

I enjoyed the conclusion of the ‘Barefoot Actress’ arc. The progression of Yumiko caring about her life instead of openly receiving death was well done. The conclusion of Seal’s death having been staged was superb, seeing that the actress had been played by the acting of Ryo and Seal.
At first, I thought the ‘Lame Teacher’ arc was going to be just like the ‘Sayaka School’ arc, due to their similar school settings, but it turned out to be distinct, but not as good. It played largely on this childish love of Ryo by Yuko, but the plot and action scenes felt subpar, since the main antagonist was scared off by a bullet that went through his cup. The humor was up there with some of the best of the series, especially with the way in which Ryo tricked Yuko into thinking Kaori was his brother, a transvestite, and then a step-brother who was in love with Ryo. Yuko hinting that she would be reunited with Ryo later was beautiful.
Rating Update 4/5/2019- Since the 'Lame Teacher' arc took up the majority of the novel, and I generally liked it (3 stars), the ending to the 'Barefoot Actress' arc being 4 stars cannot raise this volume to 4 stars.
Update 9 June 2019
With the adoption of my new rating system, a three star rating is befitting. The justification for these ratings come from the ratings assigned to the chapters in the rating update from April 5, 2019.

Update
A proper rating for the "Lame Teacher" arc would be 2.5 stars. There are the sections of Ryo pretending to be a teacher, the jokes about Kaori, and the sweet ending for Sayaka, but this is bogged down by the slow story, Sayaka's uninteresting, secret, villainous stepmother, and a slow plot all together. This is a weak three star-rated book.

Update
I did not like the 2.5 star rating for the "Lame Teacher" arc that was decided in the update from September 9, 2019. To create an accurate version for this volume, I have rated each chapter individually:
Chapter Thirteen (A Pounding Heart): Three stars
Chapter Fourteen (Shoot the Ghost): Three stars
Chapter Fifteen (A Lame Teacher): Two stars
Chapter Sixteen (The Scar of Memory): Two stars
Chapter Seventeen (The Knell of Fate): Three stars
At first glance, the cumulative rating is 2.6 stars, however, when adjusted for inflation because of the differentiating page lengths, chapter fifteen is over fifty pages and chapter sixteen is over sixty pages, both accounting for the majority of the volume. Unfortunately, the rating of this volume must be lowered because of these slow sections, that are explained in previous sections of this review. This is still a two star-rated book in the higher strata of two star-rated books.

Update
In the original review, when I write that "Seal’s death having been staged was superb", I probably refer to Ryo, whose death was staged.
