Newbie vamp + panther shifter
Jeno's backstory is sad. He deserved the world.
Leonas is gruff and snarky. I'm not convinced he deserved Jeno's quick forgiveness.
The goblin poppy dealer plot was all over the place and not satisfactorily resolved.
Not my favorite of the three but still fun.
I like Lee Colgin's writing style; it's comforting.

“Happy to be the fool, then .”
Mucho mejor que la segunda parte. Tenía que decirlo y lo dije. Creo que me quedo con este como mejor de la trilogía. Además, los protagonistas me gustaron mucho, tanto como los de la primera entrega.
Lo único que me gustaría más profundidad en este mundo y el resto de personajes. Por lo demás estoy muy contenta con el resultado y haberme decidido a leer a esta autora.

- Jeno wasn't angry at Leonas at all, while Leonas didn't even give him the benefit of the doubt. The only reason Jeno wasn't angry was self-recrimination, and Leonas should have done more to make sure Jeno didn't feel that way anymore. Leonas deserved Jeno's anger, not guilt
- Leonas never stated whether he believed in fated mates by the end or not
I loved Mongrel, the first book in the series. I didn't read the second book, because the blurb didn't appeal to me. This one did, and I really enjoyed it. It wasn't as good as the first story in my opinion, but it was an enjoyable read nonetheless. I would definitely recommend this book.

Stray is the third in the Outcast Mates series and so far the strongest entry. These books don’t necessarily have to be read in order and while previous characters make appearances in Stray, there’s nothing so complicated happening that a first time reader of the series can’t pick up on what’s happening.
Stray is more fully developed and structured than its predecessors and the story is all the richer for it. The overall plot is solid and makes easy transitions between periods of action and periods of character development. This story just had more heft and depth than either Mongrel or Changeling and I found myself engaged throughout the book. There were several times when the pacing lagged ever so slightly, but these were blips that never lasted long.

Jeno is the sweetest vampire I've read in a long time. His relentless but so careful romantic pursuit of Leonas was adorable. Leonas is the grumpiest kitty shifter, sorry, panther shifter, and while he is reluctant to succumb to Jeno's advances, his panther is not. In fact his panther treats Jeno like his own personal catnip.
A sweet romance with a mystery which acts as the glue to keep these two in each other's orbit until Leonas comes to his senses.

Very sweet read, although be aware of CN: drug addiction, including accidental relapse.
I have enjoyed all the books in this series. Stray is somewhat of a quicker love story, at least of Jeno's part: as soon as heeets Leonas, he knows he wants him and he sets about winning him over.
As with all the other books, there's a mystery at it's heart, and working together to solve the mystery is ultimately what brings the MCs together.
This is a dual POV first person story, grumpy/sunshine. It can be read as a standalone.

This had such an interesting premise, but was unexpectedly boring. Nothing really happened.

Well... this could have warranted 4* but alas. I actually enjoyed the overall story if it weren't for the few incidences where I just had to roll my eyes HARD.
These incidences may contain spoilers, even if I think they don't in the grand scheme of things.
OK, now that this is off my chest... The rest of the story was quite the pleasant read. Sure, it wasn't an action packed adventure but it was flowing along nicely and kept me interested in what was going on with the drug runners and distribution network. Jeno was such a sweet thing. So eager and romantic, always wanting to make a good impression and trying to please Leonas. Talking to everybody and anybody about Leonas, what he likes, what he dislikes, what his fav food is so he can take him out to eat even if he can't himself. Very sweet. And Leonas does.... well he gives in. I understand he has a backstory and has been hurt, but then he should take his own advice to heart when he tells Jeno that the past is the past.

“Ivaz thought I’d like you,” he says on his way out. I narrow my gaze.
“Ivaz is often wrong.”
Jeno scampers up the stairs. At the top, he glances over his shoulder and winks. “Not this time, he isn’t. See you around, Leonas.”
I don’t remember the last time I’ve read a book with a grumpy/sunshine trope and this made me remember how much I like it. I definitely need to check my TBR for more. This was the perfect book to wrap this trilogy. Though I’m hoping there are going to be more series set in this world because there are quite a few characters that I need to know their story.
Since the moment we met Jeno I couldn't think of a better person for Leonas. They both express all they had to endure through their lives in different yet complementary ways. Like the previous books there is a problem to be solved but the story is focused mainly in the MCs’ relationship. And this is for the better because Jeno had to work 24/7 to win over Leonas’s heart, lol. But hey, fortunately the panther side was wiser from the beginning.
Got to add that IMO in the middle there was a conflict between them that I don't think made sense but luckily it got solved pretty quickly.
A wholesome and cute grumpy/sunshine book. I’ve been waiting for this book since Leonas’ first appearance and it didn’t disappoint.

I was so happy when I found out our resident grumpy panther shifter was going to have his own book. I couldn't wait to Leonas fall in love and it couldn't have been with anyone more perfect for him. Jeno is new to the vampire life and like a toddler learning to walk, still hasn't really grown into his changes. He's adorably clumsy, yet determined and sweet. No one is more surprised than Leonas when the young vampire messenger sets his sights on him.
I loved how much Jeno could get a rise out of Leonas. He's always much too serious. He needed someone like Jeno, someone to bring joy back into his life. Someone to teach him that there is more to life than working at the Twig. As expected he fights against their attraction at first, but with both his panther and Jeno working on him to open his heart he is helpless to stop them.
Hearing about a few of the past MCs was great, especially Sebastian. I adore that little fae. I also really enjoyed getting to know Valius a bit, one of the incubi who works at the Twig. I'd love for him to get his own book. Without his help, I do not know how long it would have taken Leonas to open his eyes. He is a stubborn panther if there ever was one. It would just make me happy for Valius to have some love of his own. Here's to hoping!

This is my favorite of the series so far and I have loved them all! Leonas is the definition of a cat! He is aloof and worries about his grooming, but deep down he cares and craves certain attention! Jeno is the most adorable newborn vamp! So full of eagerness, a sunshine vamp which is funny to say! Jeno sets his sights on grumpy Leonas and somehow is able to push all his buttons. Jeno is clumsy if not determined! Loved all the romantic banter and hot chemistry perfectly blended with this paranormal world of danger and mystery!

Stray is the third book in the Outcast Mates series. Leo is a panther shifter that is head of security for The Twig and Berries. He takes that seriously, he very cranky and grumpy. Jeno is a new turned vampire that is running from his past but also trying to make up for it. Jeno was perfect for Leo, his innate curiosity, he’s sweet and sunshiny. Leo just plain made me laugh, his grumpiness was fun to read. We do get a few cameos from previous stories. Overall, a fantastic addition to the series! Well written with nice pacing that hooked me into the story.

I really loved how Jeno made his feelings for Leonas clear and with some interference from friends, he gets his man.
The panther side of Leonas was so fun! I really loved all the interactions with the cat.
This outing reads less like a standalone to me since Sebastian features quite a bit and there are mentions of other characters. I liked that though, there's s network of supernaturals building.
A good amount of steam and mystery to solve. That epilogue was lovely 😍

Awwwww. This was so cute. Wasn't entirely sure about Jeno at the beginning but he grew on me. It was nice getting back into this world. Not sure what to make of Robi, but that's okay.

STRAY is the third book in the Outcast Mates series, and I would highly recommend you read it as such, rather than as a standalone.
I had said previously that I wanted Leonas' story and I'm happy to say, I got it. He meets a young vampire called Jeno, who has a troubled history with opium addiction. Ivaz thought he'd got rid of the nasty goblin but, instead, it just looked like he moved to a different town. The town where The Twig and Berries reside. That puts it on Leonas' radar, and he, in turn, brings Sebastian and Dominus back into the story.
I found this story to be delightful, but it just didn't quite tick all the boxes for me. There were parts I loved - Leonas' hate of baths, for example - that I thought were brilliant, but there were also other parts that frustrated me. Jeno's lack of anger with Leonas was one. Yes, I agree there's no need for unnecessary angst but this WAS NECESSARY!!!!! Leonas didn't give him a chance to explain and basically kicked him out when he was needed the most. I expected at least five minutes of anger but there was nothing. This was more insta than the others and I missed the slow-burn feeling I got with the previous couples.
This is a great addition to the series and I'm really glad I've read it. I highly recommend the series and have no hesitation in recommending this book as part of that.

Leonas is a cranky panther shifter who works security at The Twig and Berries brothel owned by Dominus (book 2). He prefers to be left alone and doesn't leave the brothel much. One night when he's on duty Jeno, a vampire messenger from Ivaz, comes to deliver letters and get out of the coming sun. He's instantly attracted to Leonas but his flirting is getting him nowhere. Over several times that Jeno visits the brothel he and Leonas slowly become close. While Jeno is off on a delivery trip he doesn't make it back before he has to feed, and it turns out he feeds from the wrong person, causing trouble for himself with Leonas and the whole crew at the brothel. Later when he's able to explain and clear up the misunderstanding everyone forgives and things go back to before. There's a bad guy (Hoix) using new vampires to peddle opium and Leonas and Jeno are determined to take him down. They're going to need help from Sebastian (Faerie from book 2 and Dominus' partner) if they're to beat Hoix.
I loved this paranormal, fantasy, romance book. Leonas is a grump but he's also loyal to The Twig and Dominus for giving him a job and shelter. He's soon opening up to Jeno and they are a perfect fit. Jeno is a young, fun loving vampire that's glad to have a second chance at a life. The world and character building is really good. The story is good. Leonas and Jeno's relationship fells authentic. There's a nice epilogue that I did wish had the mentioned visit with Andras and Bowie (book 1) now, instead of in the future. Looking forward to more books in this series. Highly recommend this series to anyone who likes MM books in the above mentioned genres.

I love this series, well to be honest there isn't much I don't like from this author. So we have Leonas, who we met in the last book, who is a werepanter & just plain old grumpy. He works as security at The Twig and Berries. Jeno is a new vampire, very new, who is the messenger walking a very long route to deliver letters. When he sees Leonas he knows he wants him, Leonas denies his attraction, but his panther on the other hand, wants him. Jeno finds himself in a bad situation & Leonas saves him. Turns out there is a drug dealer in town & with that opens up how Jeno was turned & the horror's he went through as an addict. When Jeno inadvertently drinks from someone who is high, it causes him to become high as well and Leonas makes some accusations without listening to Jeno. I think that Jeno let him off too quickly. But eventually Leonas gets his head out of his butt and gives into his feelings. So now Jeno & Leonas along with the help of Sebastian, who we meet in the last book, along with Robi, who I don't remember us meeting him, hunting down the dealer. They also find out how it was that he was able to escape from death when Ivaz saved Jeno & took out Hoix & his empire. Hoix is a nasty Goblin & he does get what was coming to him, but he did not suffer anywhere long enough. I can't wait to see where the author goes from here.

I love the mix of historical and paranormal in this series, and I enjoyed not only Leonas and Jeno’s story, but catching up with familiar characters from the Twig and Berries. I was curious about Leonas in previous books, and I liked meeting Jeno and seeing this world from a new supernatural.
I liked the differences between Leonas and Jeno in personality, age, and the way they view the world. Both have pain in their pasts, and I loved how Jeno brings out the softer side of Leonas, and is able to get through the walls he’s erected around his heart. I liked how Jeno is clueless about the supernatural world, what he’s capable of as a vampire, and what he needs to survive as one. I loved how Leonas’ panther has everything sussed out and Leonas takes a while to play catch up. I thought it said a lot about Jeno’s strength of characters in that he survives the situation around him becoming a vampire, and his later brush with his addiction.
The setting feels very real, and I liked that it’s another place as well as time.
The plot with the poppy dealers and the nasty stuff that comes with it was well done. I loved the showdown with Hoix, and the twist of who is providing the magic that helps him.
I’m intrigued by Robi, and hope we haven’t seen the last of him. I’m always happy at the references to characters whose books I’ve read, as I like finding out what happened to them afterwards. I like Valius too and hope he gets his own HEA. Rizpah still rocks.

I’m intrigued by Robi, and hope we haven’t seen the last of him. I’m always happy at the references to characters whose books I’ve read, as I like finding out what happened to them afterwards. I like Valius too and hope he gets his own HEA. Rizpah still rocks.

This is the third book in the Outcast Mates series and I'm enjoying following a different couple each time and seeing a little bit of interaction between them and previous couples too. The world-building is definitely expanding each time and, this time, we get more insight into the Twig and the mail routes it follows. Jeno, a newly turned vampire, turns up on Leonas' doorstep... aka the Twig... and instantly falls into lust with the surly panther shifter. It was very much a grumpy/sunshine romance, with Jeno maintaining a positive, sweet attitude pretty much the entire way through despite Leonas' growls and snark. The two had good chemistry and the small amount of angst they went through was necessary for them to come out so much stronger. I liked the wider plot and felt that it brought in more of the secondary characters, leaving me curious whose book we will get next. I'm hoping Valius gets a story as he definitely did some good turns to Jeno and Leonas.
Overall, this is a sweet romance with a bit of action, a bit of angst, lots of cute moments and a HEA for the pair. I'd recommend it to those who like MM romance and it's especially enjoyable if you're familiar with the series (although it's not essential to have read what comes before to understand the story).

Another delightful installment to an enchanting series. I love how unique the storylines are in these paranormal romances and this one was no different. Grumpy-sunshine trope wrapped up in a baby vamp and spicy kitty....I was here for it!
Lee Colgin has a recipe to her romances for this series and there is typically some external danger. Which is true in this story but what took me by surprise in this book is the character growth and hidden depth. Jeno may be a ray of sunshine but he is carrying grief and regret from his time as a human. So he works through a lot of these more remorse feelings and learns to forgive himself. Then there is Leonas, who is in denial about how truly lonely he is. I love the solace these two find in each other, there were just as many tender, heartfelt moments as there were sizzling ones.
The romance is delightful balanced with the hidden danger pushing into Pest. I think my favorite part of this story was the expansion of paranormal beings. From the previous books in the series we know shifters, incubuses, vampires, and fae exist but there is apparently so much more lurking around in the shadows. I won't spoil anything but I think the arc tied in with Jeno's journey to self-forgiveness wonderfully. This book was the perfect escapism read I was looking for.

Stray, the 3rd book in LC's Outcast Mates is a great addition to the series.
I'm enjoying the world that the author has created for this series.
Panther shifter Leonas heads the security for The Twig and Berries brothel, where we were visited in previous books. He is grumpy with a capital "G". He doesn't let many into his circle.
Newly turned vampire Jeno has a lot to prove. He has been given a second chance with a job as a messenger. His route takes him to The Twig and Berries where he meets the very grumpy Leonas.
I loved Jeno's innocence with all things paranormal. Being a newly turned vampire, he has a lot to learn and his curiosity is endearing.
I enjoyed Jeno's pursuit of Leonas's affection. And watching Leonas's walls crumble as he falls for the awkward vampire.
With a mystery to solve, Sebastian & Dominus (from book 2) make cameo appearance.
Although Stray could be read as a standalone, I would highly suggest reading book 1 and book 2 first to appreciate the full experience of the world the author has created.

Lee’s paranormal romances are always so vivid and beautiful, I love all of them. I was so excited for Leonas’ story and he did not disappoint!
Leonas is a werepanther with a sassy streak. He has dear friends at The Twig and Berries, but he prefers his solitude. He’s known to all as sharp and aloof, and he doesn’t let anyone break through. Not even a handsome young vampire…
Jeno is an adorable golden retriever of a vampire. He’s sweet, charming, and a bit clumsy! He’s immediately attracted to Leonas, and determined to win him over, no matter how hard he resists.
But there is trouble in Pest; a supernatural drug peddler is spreading opium all over the city, and as much as everyone wants to stop him, they have to find him first. Jeno is especially against this, as he has had a rough history with the flower.
Dominus and Sebastian are back to help, as well as some new fascinating characters. The plot is fast moving and fascinating, the romance heart warming, emotional, and super sexy. I loved the first two books and Stray did not let me down!!!

While I truly liked the previous two books in this series, I think this one is my favorite yet!
Jeno is a fledgling vampire, trying to find his place in the world after being rescued from a Goblin drug dealer. Leonas is a werepanther and security for the demon brothel, Twig and Berries. Jeno is instantly smitten with the surly Leo and sets out to woo and win the grumpy panther's affection.
I liked how the push and pull of Jeno and Leo is set against the backdrop of the drug trade and how they unite in their desires to see the goblin stopped. There's a lot of revelations regarding addiction and the suffering it causes, and I felt that that was really true to real life. Leo is utterly perfect as the surly, reluctant recipient of Jeno's interest and Jeno is completely adorable as the gangly, clumsy young vampire that just wants to make his kitty purr! Great world building and complex characters - the story flows seamlessly from the other two books, and yet can stand on its own. Old friends and new round out the cast and I'm really excited to see where the author is going to take us next within this magical world. I'm already totally addicted to this series!

Stray is the second book I've read from this author. Ironically, both titles I've read have been out of order and from two different series, but I enjoy the worlds this author creates in her historical fantasy stories. There's definitely a little character overlap in Stray, but this story follows a specific couple, and I didn't feel like I missed much by reading this as a standalone.
Whenever books blend multiple different fantastical beings, I find it interesting, and the way the other beings came together, battled, and found love in Stray was definitely intriguing. I found both main characters interesting and really liked learning Jeno's backstory and seeing his character progression throughout the book.
Leonas and Jeno together had a good connection. I enjoyed watching their relationship develop from the initial attraction to more. I also liked how they both really seemed to support one another in multiple different ways. If you enjoy fantasies with various beings and some magic interwoven, I'd definitely recommend this author and story.

Grumpy/sunshine goodness!
Awwww I quite enjoyed this book. I was hoping we’d get Leonas’ HEA, so when I saw the blurb for this one I snatched it right up. He’s such a grumpy and serious dude that I knew he’d need someone like Jeno to shake things up. Jeno is fun, kind, and just the right amount of mischievous. These two are super sweet together and have a lot of love and respect for each other. There is a plot in this one and it’s interesting enough, but the story mostly focuses on the romance and I think I preferred that. I just loved Leonas and Jeno so much!
These books are simple comfort reads and I do think this is my favorite. The characters are so fun together and it was so satisfying seeing Leonas open up to someone and be vulnerable.
If you like paranormal romance, definitely give the series a try. It’s plenty entertaining and I think the author’s writing is getting better with each book. Honestly this book can stand alone, so you can pick it up without reading the other two. But I also really loved the second book, so I recommend that one too!

Jeno and Leonas are sunshine and grumpiness taken to the next level, and watching a seriously prickly panther shifter and a baby vamp with a heart of seriously shiny gold together makes for a really enjoyable reading experience. Leonas is absolutely a cat, in all the best and worst ways, and I liked him immensely. Jeno, on the other hand, I absolutely loved. He’s sweet and a tad bumbling and super determined, resourceful, and caring— what’s not to like? The supporting characters, like the world the story takes place in, add compelling nuance and background for this romance— it’s not technically necessary to have read other books in the series to enjoy this one, but they are also well worth the read and will enhance the experience of this story. 4.5 stars.

**First Time Reader**
I don't read too many non contemporary paranormal romances and this historical one was an interesting read. This had so many different paranormal beings that had me hooked from start to end. I enjoyed Jeno's inquisitive nature and Leonas grumpy self. Their physical description had me wondering about the match but I loved it. They are not your typical match up...very opposite but they were instantly drawn to each other which made their romance very nice. I didn't get to read the previous books and I felt this was a good standalone...not much angst but I did get a little emotional at times...some humor due to Leonas grumpy self...a little romance, some heat and a magical battle that made this entertaining for a first time reader of this author. Glad I had the opportunity to read...it was nice:)
