Covens of Eaton Falls #1

Never Trust a Guy With Fangs

Rate this book
alternate cover edition of ASIN B09QZ4K2NK

Waking up in my enemy's bed is just the start of my problems.

The first rule of being a witch: don't trust the vampires. My entire life has been filled with stories of our warring covens. We tenuously coexist in the New England city of Eaton Falls, where the locals think we're merely the stuff of fairy tales and horror movies.

We live life as the mortals do, keeping our magic behind the scenes. Everything is fine until the day I wake up inside notorious Eaton Manor, in the bed of none other than the sexy and terrifying head vampire, Augustus Rainier, with no memory of how I got there.

His presence makes my skin tingle and my heart beat just a little faster. I know the inherent danger of associating with violent, often unpredictable vampires. I've got bigger problems, though, when I discover my coven is in hiding, leaving me on my own.

When danger shows up at Eaton Manor, it becomes clear it's not only the witches in trouble. Both covens need to decide: do we fight separate battles against the same enemy or break every rule in our history and join forces to defeat a common foe? The other major question—will possessive and domineering Augustus let me go when this is over?

Never Trust A Guy With Fangs is an MM paranormal romance. It is book one in the Covens of Eaton Falls series featuring a rebellious twink of a witch with eternal optimism, an edgy vampire with a strong mistrust of witches, two stubborn and quirky covens, a threat from an unknown enemy, and a dangerous desire that could tear apart tradition, all in a beautiful New England backdrop. Each book features a new couple with a guaranteed HEA but the series must be read in order.

There were times when I absolutely loved the writing and times when it fell short. Also the whole forbidden romance thing was awesome and I wish the author would’ve leaned into that just a little more. But otherwise those were the only two problems I had with this story. I mean, witches and vampires!! It hits all those marks. The world building was decent, especially behind the vampires and I liked both the characters, Leo’s quirks and Augustus’ intensity 👀… I know I will eventually pick up the next book in this series because Presley is amazing but I’m not sure when that will be.

This was pretty fun, though I do think the cute relationship dynamic at the beginning starts to wear thin by the halfway point. Leonardo doesn’t have enough agency and Augustus doesn’t have enough consistency. It feels a bit silly to say that I read these kinds of books for the plot, but… I do. I guess it’s similar to a stage play in that there are only about four locations throughout the book. I don’t think this would be a huge issue if the main plot didn’t involve an impending war between all magical beings. The story feels small and intimate and because of this, I never felt the gravity and urgency of the world ending situation.

This leads into my next point; a lot of the novel is spent with Leonardo and Augustus desperately trying to bone. This is despite magic or whatever stopping them from doing so (don’t ask me, I didn’t understand it either), and I was just waiting for them to focus on the main plot of stopping the impending magical war. But nope, boning seems to be the most pressing issue for most of the story. Surely there are more important things at the moment? Like the impending magical war? I mean, come on dudes, the time is flying, and everything is dying. Anyway, let me think of something nice to say… if this book were a song, it would be Supermassive Black Hole by Muse.

This was a pretty sexy mm vampire/witch book.
All the yummy vampire tropes I love are here.
The bite-y, bite-y
The lick-y, lick-y
The “you smell good”
The telepathy
The super ridiculously attractive vamps with color changing eyes
The vampire lore with it’s own made up rules
Fated mates
Hybrids!

Does include insta-love/insta-attraction despite being “rivals” and dialogue that gets repetitive and ventures into sappy.

Ugh, at 33% in, I give up. I don't have it in me, so DNF.

The main vamp character's coming off way too much as a "Me Tarzan, you Jane" type. He was very surface-level and kind of domineering.

Hard pass.

at least 4 stars for plot & idea, tho.

This book was obviously highly anticipated. I was intrigued the minute I read the blurb. So I put all my current readings on hold to start this one right away.

Well, I wish I hadn’t *lol The story was still very much intriguing and captivating but at the same time it felt so unbearably silly; ridiculous even. I had trouble to take the main characters serious and to push myself further through the story.

All that „I feel so damned attracted to you and I don’t know why and can almost not keep my desires in check“ was just too OTT for me, tbh. Even though it made more sense when all is revealed near the end. But I needed to make it to this point first, tho.

My conclusion: With this storyline it could’ve been an awesome book for me! But unfortunately I didn't like the simple writing very much and it was way too cheesy for my liking.

I don't think I will pick up another book in this series. Pity, really, with this plot.

I started this with low expectations and this book completely riped it a new one. The writing of this book was just... Amateurish. I can only hold that tolerance over debut authors and Mia has a ton of books. I'd consider retrying this in the future cus the concept sounds good,

but rn, my streak is dropping and dnfing every book I've picken up. I haven't read a new (non reread book) for the last 3 weeks sooooooo (recommend me some books friends 😩) this is a dnf for now

“Why did yo come to me, darling Leonardo? What Fates caused our worlds to collide ? What powers taunt me with such a treasure ? ”

“The shadows hold secrets that shall be revealed”.

“Beautiful witch. You enchant me. Please allow me to reassure you that I am pleased you have come to me. Protecting you is my honor and purpose. Do not be afraid anymore”.

“You make destruction enticing”.

This was a rather kitchen-sinky urban fantasy story. It tried to do too much and did none of it well. I'm honestly surprised I finished it, I was so bored. Oh well. You win some, you lose some.

Ambrosia has nothing on you, my love.

This is not by any stretch a literary masterpiece, neither is it the most engaging PNR romance I've ever read, but it gave me butterflies 😩 and I like butterflies. Also apparently I am a sucker for the practically-would-be-a-crime-to-fall-for-each-other trope in my PNR so I'll never get enough of them ever 🤪

Just a few niggles that didn't make this a 5 star read for me... It was too sugary sweet (even for me), and the sweet stuff started wayyy early on and became such a big chunk of it that I almost started to get bored (dunno if I'm sick or something cause this is typically my shiz). Also I was lowkey cringing at some of the dialogue especially with the way Augustus talked 😆. Honestly, the writing didn't fully reflect how the world was set up to be so I wasn't as engaged as I would've liked. But it was still unputdownable as heck.

So yeah, story-wise it was such a fun read! I loved the unexpected mystery element. And I like to think I'm one of the biggest fans of Fated Mates attraction and this was filled to brim with all the stuff that comes with it including, but not limited to, non-stop touching, and an insane obsession with their mates scent . This one gets my stamp of approval if you need something light and fluffy, or something to pull you out of a reading slump!💙💙💙

Not what I expected but I loved it

For some reason, maybe the title, I thought this was going to be a more comedic paranormal romance.

Instead, I got some truly great world building, a complex and complicated plot that is clearly going to run through the series, a fabulous pair of lovers, and brilliant secondary characters.

I can't wait to get stuck into Beto and Presley's romance next!

I was looking for a cozy paranormal, a light read with action and feels, moderate steam but not to much angst, a story to spend a weekend with tea and cookies on a couch, escaping the return of winter in April. At first it seemed like I get what I was looking for.

Leo is a witch twink waking up in bed with the charming vampire Augustus but can't remember what happened or how he got into said bed. What makes it even more disturbing is that in this universe witches and vampires are sworn enemies with a history full of war and hate, only lightly pacified by a treaty of strict separation. Of course there is also the other troubling fact that the scent of witches compels vampires to fuck and kill which might also lead to their own demise, so not the best situation to start a pleasant morning. Turns out that Leo was drugged and placed on Augustus' front porch while his coven was attacked and went into hiding. Now both guys have to fight their attraction as well as the prejudice of vampires and witches alike to solve the mystery before their world tips into a new war.

So far, so promising – even if it wouldn't turn out cozy. It's only that I quite early struggled with the characters of Leo and Augustus, worried over the abundance of explanatory dialog without showing what they are talking about and then tripping over a world building which seems to show as many holes as a Swiss cheese. At the end without getting neither the action nor the emotion I was looking for I had to wave the white flag and surrender.

I might try the series again at book 3. Following Ms. Monroe's newsletter that one seems promising again and after all hope springs eternal :)

2★'s = it was ok.

I had a feeling based on some friend’s reviews that this might not work for me but I love, love, love vampires and witches so I just thought I’d give it a try.

WHAT A BUMMER.

None of this worked for me. None of it. The setup was just so bizarre. The “world” too was bizarre. I was bored and the way the characters spoke drove me crazy. It took me forever to read, some life but mostly I just didn’t feel like picking it back up.

I’m so sad about it. There seem to be a lot of books out in this series now and I would have loved to find a new PNR that knocked my socks off. This was not it. I’ll definitely check to see what is with the rest of the books in the series, to see if reviews are more favorable but if not, I’m out.

Oh! And why are the covers being changed? I actually like how these books looked without shirtless men on them. Another bummer.

I love a good PNR series and I wanted to enjoy this. But no such luck.

First of all the "aesthetic" got me. The author posted in a FB group and the aesthetic pic got me.

Secondly, I think the overall plot is possibly gonna be interesting but I'm not getting that far to find out unfortunately.

There is very little build up and/or development. Augustus knows Leo a whole five seconds and he's talking about him being the sun that will destroy him. Dude. Please stop. 3% in and they barely know one another. They are supposed to be wary of one another but ya know arousal and attraction cancels that out altogether.

This is not enemies to lovers but there is supposed to be this long history between vamps and witches of war and violence. And I get that's where the story is going with witches and vamps having this strong pull to each other. But there is no spark being ignited. It just goes straight to them basically being glued to each others hip. Leo loses all common sense around Augustus. Leo is supposed to be stubborn and takes no shit but Augustus tells him he's basically his prisoner and Leo is all "oh ok". There's "push back" but not really you know?

It felt like Augustus had two personalities. He's supposed to be the charming, old-timey vamp (which I didn't hate) but is also the possessive, aggressive asshole (which I hated). I love grumpy jealousy. I even love characters who are assholes. But I didn't like Augustus. It was like there was confusion on who he was supposed to be.

Something else which was happening in this book - it felt like the author had came up with these romantic poetic quotes but they felt so misplaced?! They were just right there and it felt like wait, what? We're *there* already?!?

I had already lost interest in Augustus and Leo and was just hoping to get into the paranormal world building. Then Leo's best friend Presley enters and I was gonna hold on for him and Beto. But then Presley starts talking about this undeniable pull. And my bubble burst lol. Because I imagine their book is gonna be the same.

maybe that's just the author's style and I'm not the reader for it. The concept is really great but the execution isn't landing with me. It feels there's no build up in many areas and instead we're thrown right in without any development.

"You cannot love without your soul. It is where love lives. Hearts are mere organs that do nothing but keep the mortal body alive. But to love is to give your soul to another.”

This is the first book in the Covens of Eaton Falls series and features Augustus and Leonardo. Leo the witch finds himself dumped at the doorstep of Augustus the vampire with no memory of how he got there and why. Vampires and witches have a tumultuous history and even consider themselves enemies despite the peace treaty. But when Augustus finds the pretty witch, the need to claim is much stronger than the need to destroy.

Soon they discover the fate of all supernaturals is threatened and the vampires and the coven witches, along with some others will have to unite to fight back. Not everything is what it seems and the more time Leo and Auggie spend together, the more their bond grows into something beautiful.

Leo was a fun and light hearted character that was just so pure of mind and heart. Augustus was jaded but watching him accept his attraction to Leo was so satisfying. Both characters were nicely developed and had a lot of depth together and apart.

I really loved this story. It isn't overly angsty and while I would consider this to be a slower burn, the sexual tension and build up to their coupling was so yummy. It didn't even bother me that Leo wasn't as manly man as Auggie. They just worked and both had their own strengths that made them great characters. A lot of moments in here were cheesy but honestly I didn't care. It warmed my heart. The world building is not overly exaggerated and descriptive and there were some moments that dragged but overall, I think this was a solid MM PNR. I can't wait to get my hands on the rest of the stories in this series.

If I could rate half stars I might drop to 3.5 for this one for me. While I did enjoy the story - and I'll be reading book two for sure, I also found the writing style to be a bit...off? for me?

Augustus is overly formal and very very stiff in his conversation - and a lot of purple prose. And then I expected Leo, the young human witch, to be very modern in his slang and words, but then he also had his moments of very formal purple prose.

I love the whole forbidden lovers, moral enemies, fated mates vibe going on. Yes, I will always be a sucker for those tropes and all the feels that come with it.

I'm also super interested in the overall story, several of the other characters (Leo's friend especially) and how the overall plot with Leo will develop since I feel like that's not finished. So, a solid start but I also do hope that maybe the next book reads a bit different for me?

I loved this book so much! I laughed so much and it just made me feel good while reading it.

My last few reads were dark romance books and I needed something light. This book didn't disappoint. It was light, funny, with a possessive MC (my weakness 🥵) and the smut was hot. It was also OTT and cheesy at times (but I loved it even more because of that). 👌😂

So this book is really sweet, insta-love. It is not enemies-to-lovers (they are supposed to be enemies but umm well with their luck they can't be even that, not giving spoilers sooo 🤭). I was intrigued by this book the moment I read the blurb and saw that it's a love story between a vampire and a witch!

I needed time to get used to the way Augustus talked (he spoke in a little bit old-fashioned way) and the sweet things he said. (They were wrapped up with honey... and more honey... and I loved it! 😏)

I loved the plot, the suspense and mystery, and all the side characters. Overall, I enjoyed this book so much. There were things I didn't like but they didn't affect my experience with the book. I thought about removing a star because of these things but then I thought about Leo and Augustus and the book as a whole and how it made me feel and yep, not happening. 5 stars book for me! 🙌

"I will love you forever," Leo whispers. "And forever after that."

"Do not anger me, Leo. Do you know what I would do?"
"Hulk-smash everything?"

If you touch him, you will face my wrath.

If you enjoy sweet books, with even more sweet and amazing MCs, over possessiveness, and interesting plot then you will like this book.

P.S. I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE RELEASE OF THE NEXT BOOK. (which by the way is 06.05.2022)

DNF 4%. I've already seen too many things that made me go ". . . What?", like how the MC wakes up naked in bed next to his naked enemy, and the enemy was basically like "well I found you unconscious with a few scrapes so obviously I thought the best thing to do was strip you, strip myself, and get in bed with you" and the MC was like "yes, of course."

"My entire life, I was told to never trust a guy with fangs, but trusting this particular vampire led to me following my true destiny. For once, I got it right."

This was fun if a little too poetic for me,like you do not need to write poetry every time you declare your love for your partner.
Leo was an okay protagonist,he was kinda annoying me with how much he cried but other than that he was a little bit boring to be honest.
Augustus was slightly more interesting, throwing aside his hobby of speaking only in poetry every single time he talked to Leo.
The plot was slow paced but I do get why so it did not bother me that much.
Despite my criticism for this book I really enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to reading the next work in this series .

Never Trust a Guy With Fangs is series starter in Eaton Falls. HEA. MM Paranormal Romance. Enemies to Lovers. Fated Mates. Forbidden relationship. Vampires, Witches etc.

I did like the idea a lot but I cannot claim to be a fan of the execution of it in reality at all. I don't really like the writing style. It's clumsy and simple and and ...

To mind comes also a famous FM Paranormal book trilogy and tv-show with the same idea, too.

The Guy With The Fangs in question in this story seems very trustworthy. I don't see how the title is apt in any way either 🤔

I simply didn't like this one.

"Our souls are matched long before our bodies are given. Our journey is simply to find each other, and once we do, nothing is more powerful."

Mia Monroe's dip into the paranormal waters was an absolutely fabulous success! On top of being super romantic, there was action, suspense, and an intriguing plot that appears is going to span multiple books. There is a lot going on in book 1 as we have not only the worldbuilding, but are introduced to a whole cast of side characters consisting of all different walks of paranormal life. Honestly, by the end of the book it would be exponentially easier for me to list characters who's story I didn't want vs those I desperately hope get their own books. There is so much potential here for future books it's a literal treasure trove of MCs. Admittedly, I am crossing my fingers that a certain blood thirsty Barista eventually winds up with a book of his own. Oh and a not so innocent as his appearance Peridot. He seems like he'd be a fun one!

Book 2 is already up and has a blurb. We get a little insight in this one of what is going on between those MCs, but I am definitely looking forward to their story. I am so happy Mia took the chance and wrote in the PNR genre. She is a woman of many talents and I am chomping at the bit for what happens next!

Second attempt at this author… still not a fan of her writing.

I think, considering this is the second book I’ve read with dual POVs that read the same even though both characters come from such extremely different backgrounds, that maybe she should not write dual POV and maybe focus on writing one strong POV as opposed to two weak ones. Why does a thousands of years old vamp and a modern day witch have identical sounding narratives and speech patterns.

How does an undead creature impregnate a human?

Why are vampires all tall?

This was, in all, a disappointment. The book is incredibly padded with entire chapters that seem to be completely unnecessary and a plot that moves at the speed of a stagnant pond.
The magical system has no cohesion and every question or issue is handwaved away with ‘intuition’ until the suspension of disbelief completely breaks.

One of the MC’s is a gary stu and the other is incredibly pretentious with a character history that is all over the place. Which also manages to screw up the history of the world around them because it is used as a comparison for the time line of the main plot.

There was an interesting idea at the start of this. It died under the dragging weight of the rest of the book.

Fangtastic! Witchy goodness, seductive vampires, mysterious occurrences, outstanding world-building, unforgettable characters, and volcanoes of sizzle: I’m intoxicated with Leo and his Augustus. “Because, darling, my soul cries out for you. What is left of it is yours. It is not much of a prize, but it is all I have.” Siiiiiigh, I’d take anything Augustus or Leo would give me. These two, my heart may explode from all the love I feel for them, but so. worth. it. Leo’s headstrong attitude and Augustus’s possessively courtly one combined with their intense, oh so sexy and swoony push and pull equal something so delicious, so surprising, so wonderfully naughty, and so nnngh, I wish I had more words to describe how I fully feel. This world and its characters will sink its teeth into you and never let go. It’s pure fire, addictive, amazing and will leave you clamoring for the moment you can visit Eaton Falls again.

Never Trust a Guy With Fangs is the start of a fantastic new mm paranormal romance story. The book follows the witch, Leo, and Vampire Augustus' story. The book is filled with witches, vampires, demons, and other paranormal beings. The book is well written and I enjoyed the overall story, the sass and quirky characters as well as all the steam. The characters and love story develop over the course of the book and has all the action, adventure, and romance you could ever want in a series. The book does end in a cliffhanger and I can't wait to read the next installment. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
