I liked the overall aesthetic and vibe of this little book as it's very zen, from the pastel colour palette to the minimalist layout. However, the content itself was underwhelming as there's not much meat to it other than the same old affirmations.
This little book of affirmations was surprisingly quote powerful. Say them out loud and you can’t help feeling a burst of positivity and confidence. The drawings were cute, too!
So I really liked this little book! The illustrations were genius! So cute and interesting. The "catffirmations" were relaxing, but I would have liked more text.
Cats are a miracle. They are fuzzy little killing machines that can conform to almost any space, like a liquid. They are the ultimate Zen masters, sleeping often to recharge, finding the most comfortable places in any home, using play to build relationships with the humans they love. Cats know how lo live.
Humans, not so much. We struggle to get everything done, to relax, to sleep. We forget to play, and instead just keep moving and doing and striving. Or at least, I do. Sometimes I need a reminder to slow down and breathe, to let my shoulders fall back down into place, to believe.
Catffrirmations is the perfect book for one of those days where I am feeling overwhelmed and exhausted. There are short affirmations to take in, written by a very clever kitty, which add light humor and feline wisdom.
But the real appeal of this book is the artwork. Illustrator Lim Heng Swee is a blend of traditional Japanese art and adorable cats. With a nod towards the woodblock prints we love, these illustrations bring that sense of movement and uses bright colors to show just how special cats are. There are cats sleeping and cats falling and cats ruling over us all. The cats are the water, the mountains, the flowers, and the plants.
Catffirmations is a short book, perfect as a gift for cat lovers. I love these illustrations, and the simple words are centering and calming. The art is so beautiful. I feel like I can just sit and stare at them and feel the stress falling away. Sitting with this book is like sitting with a cat on your lap, purring contentedly or even falling asleep. It’s perfect for a bad day, for a friend or for yourself. As someone who had a bad day and then came home to read this book, I can attest to that.
Egalleys for Catffirmations were provided by Chronicle Books through Edelweiss, with many thanks.
A super quick read on this book. Definitely need this especially if you are a cat lover because we know better how cat lives their life. This book said it all.
The brief book Catffirmations is ideal as a present for cat lovers. I adore these illustrations, and the straightforward text is grounding and soothing. The artwork is exquisite which inspired by traditional Japanese art. I believe that if I simply sit and look at them, my stress will dissipate. With this book in your lap, you can imagine a cat purring happily or even nodding off. It is ideal for yourself, a friend, or a bad day. I can attest to that as someone who had a bad day and then came home to read this book.
Thank you Times Reads for sending this beautiful gift in exchange for honest review.
I walked into my local (the only) bookstore just to browse while checking on the status of a difficult order and ended up walking out with this book. Plus three pins that caught my eye while I was waiting at the register. The interpretation of Hokusai The Great Wave off Kanazawa on the Dust cover is as striking as the book is without it.
I love this artist, I love cats, and I love a good mantra. I had such lovely feels, and some teary eyes along the way, as I read this sweet book of cat inspired affirmations.
I chose the following mantra from the book for January: “Life’s obstacles are an adventure. I leap in sure-footed confidence. And stick the landing.”
Got this book for my birthday, it was a gift I chose for myself really. It’s a beautiful little book and you can flip through this in less than 10 minutes. The phrases are okay but to me it was more of an illustration book (art book?). I understand the appeal of the “catffirmations” as a cat owner, but the images kind of outperform the text.
Beautiful artwork pops off each page. The accompanying mantras and meditations are ones that will make any cat lover (a.k.a. “owned by a cat” human) smile in recognition. In 70-ish pages, the artist and author reminded me not only of why I love my cats but also illustrates the many lessons we can learn from our feline household members.
una ternura de libro ! muy cute me gustó mucho. los q me gustaron fueron los siguientes: I'm simply radiant; Inner peace is just a catnap away; I am liquid. I am stillness. I'm a gorgeus contradiction.
I received an eARC copy from Chronicle Books via Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.
Catffirmations: Mindful Mantras to Awaken Your Inner Cat is a short yet thoughtful and calming read. These playful cats call us to have a break, slow down our pace, and take a deep breath. Stress from work and daily life should be left behind, and the urge to curl up on a sofa or in bed and take some time off should step in. The cats are sharing truly hidden knowledge with us.
The minimalist art, its simple forms and lines and the lovely colour palette of landscapes match the overall relaxing tone perfectly.
Illustrations that look like typical doctors office background artwork until you look closely and realize there's a cat in that design. Accompanying each illustration is a short phrase of cat wisdom.
Cute and clever but I won't be running out to purchase a print copy. I felt like several of the illustrations were repetitive and just the same design from a slightly different viewpoint. I would've liked more variation. Hand this to cat lovers who like coffee table books or subtle comics.
This was a cute book filled with cats and affirmations - hence the title.
The art was super fun to look at - a lot of it has a similar vibe to the front cover. Some of the art told a cohesive story which was fun.
The affirmations didn’t really flow in any order so sometimes turning the page felt random, and the affirmations themselves weren’t anything never-been-said-before, but they were all very uplifting. The art really stole the show in this book for me.
