He had one job—to keep his goddaughter pure and protected. He failed.
Trouble was Kendra’s middle name, and it sang to my every fantasy as a man.
But as her guardian, I’d made a promise to her parents.
My goddaughter was forbidden and untouchable. Then one day I stopped resisting the temptation.

She had one job—to avoid danger by staying hidden. She failed.
Julian Silver was my father’s best friend—and the hottest, most tempting bachelor a girl could imagine. By a cruel twist of fate, he was also my unattainable guardian. His job was keeping me safe from the outside world. But who would keep him safe from me? Well… certainly not me!

They each failed at their jobs—but together, they are unbeatable.

Silver’s Trouble is the fourth novel in the Silver Brothers Securities Family Saga. While the book can be read as a standalone novel, the author recommends beginning with Book 1, Silver’s Rebel. Intended for mature audiences with a guaranteed happily ever after for the couple. Originally published as Layers Off in 2013 (no longer available), the novel was completely re-written.

Lacey Silks

USA Today Bestselling Author Lacey Silks writes seat-gripping romantic suspense with heat and spice. She’s married to most of her characters and tortures her husband with quirky book roles. Lacey’s two kids and her dog Kygo fill her time with homework questions and sweet licks all over her face (the dog not the kids).

When she’s not writing seat-gripping and heart-throbbing stories, Lacey enjoys camping and skiing with her family. She’s an early bird by nature and drinks coffee instead of water, because that’s how her busy billionaire heroes do it.

Lacey’s flawed and relatable characters fill the pages with laughter, snark and tears. She judges men by the size of their feet, loves sexy lingerie, and can’t live without her “boost juice”: coffee.

If I read one more book with an amazing premise and then piss poor writing and insufferable characters, I'm going to lose my fucking mind.

I’d give this more than 5 stars if I could. Even though I knew the resolution (mostly) since reading the other books in the series, this one was still heart-wrenching, and at times, difficult to read. It was extremely tense, and maybe that was because I had a pretty good idea of what was going to happen, but I didn’t know when. If I’m being honest, prior to this book, I had very little understanding or empathy for Kendra or Julian. I can’t say that anymore. I got sucked into the saga of these two and found myself cursing everyone who tried to prevent them from being together.

Trigger warning: I don’t know if the author included one, but there should probably be a trigger warning because Kendra is abducted and physically and sexually abused. This was the hardest part of the book for me to read and I found myself mentally reliving some of it long after I’d finished reading. There were definitely hints at a Jeffrey Epstein-type character in this book and the author delves into the sex trafficking of sometimes-underage girls. Reading this book made the reality of the real-life victims’ suffering more concrete to me.

Normally, I get an ARC from the author, but this time, I’m pleased to say I edited the book. Lacey thoroughly engages every sense and entices readers to emotionally invest themselves in the characters and their story. These two were brought to life and made memorable. Of course, I’ve always found her stories memorable, but there’s something about this one that will haunt me. I suspect that’s because I found it easy to imagine some of the girls who are victimized in the real world and I sincerely hope there are organizations like the Silver brothers’ business to help rescue them.

This book starts when Kendra is just a teenager and readers get to experience her growth over the course of several years. Let’s just say, Kendra is a bit precocious. Julian didn’t stand a chance. Still, it’s easy to understand why he tried so desperately to reject her overtures. He took care of her as a baby! It can’t be easy to make the switch in your mind from guardian to lover.

Ultimately, I have to say that I highly recommend the book. As well as every other in this series.

I have read all of the Silver Securities books and I had been looking forward to reading Kendra and Julian's story but it was a bit of a let down for me. My problem isn't with the writing because that has always been consistent but the story itself. It goes back in time to when Julian took guardianship of Kendra aka Kay at 15 years old. She was a confused, angry, angsty teenager and travels forward until she is about 21. Kendra is a girl with so many issues that I felt bad for her however I honestly didn't want to read about all of her teen drama and then when we get to the part where hers and Julian's relationship becomes intimate I felt icky about it. I know that she was a legal adult but I couldn't get over the 18 year age gap. Later Kendra suffers from the worst assault imaginable to a young woman and that is quickly glossed over. So am I going to continue with the series, yes. As I said the writing is good however this was one of my least favorite in the series. As with all of the others it was told from dual POV and is very graphic.

I've read all of the Silver Brothers Securities Series and maybe that is the problem with this review. Over half of Silver's Trouble was the very detailed past. In my opinion it was way too detailed and repetitive. Most of some of the things were important some not so much. I enjoy backstory but the past was too much. The part of the story I wanted was brushed over, this is my opinion. Most of the things that happened to Kendra was repeated from the former books. Julian is an enabler to Kendra. Julian grated my nerves, does he care about Kendra yes but he is a sap. Kendra knows how to manipulate Julian. I personally was disappointed with Silver's Trouble. In my opinion the next to last two chapters were the best. Lacey Silks did give me a twist I didn't see coming so that gets a WELL DONE! I really hate having to give this review and I'm sorry. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced reader's copy.

I couldn't even finish this book. The storyline could have been good if the characters were relatable or likeable -- but they weren't. There wasn't a single one I liked or could even empathize with. She gap romance is one thing, but this seemed too much like incest and just turned my stomach.

This book was so bad I’m legit mad. 50% of the book was actually going good. But the heroin is plain stupid, beyond stupid. The hero enables her so much. The way she manipulates him and he’s just always there for her💀 pathetic. She’s needs to get punched and left on her own, see if shed survive. I can’t imagine dating a guy after you’re told that’s he’s directly linked to your parents murderer. AFTER he tries to sell you to that guy who btw is a sex trafficker. But no it’s okay, let me make him my business partner. The fact that the heroin still befriended him. And the only way she “stopped” being friends with him is when the hero would tell her “if you want a relationship with me you will stop seeing jace” fuck off. Oh btw she’s not a drug addict, she Just overdoes every few chapters and the hero believes her when she says “I’m not addicted to pills I promise” and he’s like “I believe you.” Oh the book is called silver trouble bc she’s “trouble” no. She’s just fucking stupid. I don’t think there any other fmc who can be more stupid than this. Honestly I would vote the hero deserves better but not really bc the way she always fucks up and he’s like “it’s not your fault… you’re my trouble” 🥱🥱

Kendra was fifteen when Julian became her guardian after her parents' death. Fortunately for her Julian was her father's best friend and has known her all her life so he never gave up on her no matter how much trouble she got into or caused. Throughout the first three books there were hints here and there, but I will admit to practically shouting at my e-reader; "So exactly what the hell happened to her?" Well, I finally have my answer, and it's a doozy.
Kendra and Julian are compelling, well written and realistic. I will also admit that from time to time I wanted to reach into the pages of this book and give Kendra a good shake. All the characters are, in my opinion, are realistic in their interactions, and their reactions to the situations with which they find themselves dealing. I loved them all.
This book is a sizzling hot romance with a happily ever after. It has action, suspense, violence toward women (if that is a trigger for some readers this may not be the book for you), and it also covers (very well I think) the upheaval caused by an addiction. I loved this book, and I think this is a must-read series.

Strap yourself in for Kendra and Julian’s crazy intense and unpredictable journey. We get to find out Kendra's story which surprised me in so many ways. Kendra’s life is turned upside down where her parents are killed. As a teenager, living with her godfather Julian, is way too tempting. She’s always been attracted to him and as she reaches her 18th birthday, can she convince him that loving her is worth all the other risks? But the danger that surrounded her family hasn’t gone away and suddenly, she finds herself being hunted. She does have a way of finding trouble and sometimes causing it. Julian is determined to keep her safe but she continues to make sketchy decisions while she trusts the wrong people. I loved the interactions with all the characters in the series and how this group has created this unique family. The chemistry between Kendra and Julian is off the charts giving us the needed romance and sex right along with all the suspenseful action. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.

I loved Kendra's story.
This character has woven her way into each of the previous Silver's titles and now, at long last, we get the whole story of a charming, wayward and troubled girl. There's not a lot new as far as advancing the series is concerned, but the story does fill in the blanks and give us a view of the Silver Security world from Kendra's unique point of view.
Kendra's story isn't a pretty one, but like most of this series, it's an interesting one with a heroine who is a lot stronger than she believes she is. It's steamy, sometimes funny, often scary and never boring.
If you've been following the Silver series, this one's a must, but because it's a review story from a new perspective, this wouldn't be a bad place to jump into the series if you've been wondering whether you might like it.

This is the fourth book in the Silver Brothers Securities Family Series but can be read as a standalone. But since there are inter connecting characters you'll enjoy reading the other books in the collection. Kendra and Julian's story is one that will capture your attention right at the beginning and you won't be able to put this book down. Full of drama, temptation and choices. Forbidden love as he was her guardian after her parents were killed. But she wants him and is determined to get what she wants. He finds her so tempting. Do they succumb to temptation? What happens when her families danger continues. The book has some twists and secrets that will keep you guessing. Her character is less likable than his. No shortage of angst, danger or drama. I read an ARC of this book and voluntarily chose to review.

This book is not for the weak hearted! This book has a lovers age gap, kidnapping, SA, PTSD, death, and drug abuse.
Julian has to take his best friends' 15 year old daughter in after their untimely death. Kendra has known Julian all her life, as he is her godfather. They have a peaceful life until everything is turned upside down right after her 18th birthday. Julian tries to keep her safe but trouble seems to be attracted to her. Their love is tested in everyday imaginable.
I feel the story is relatable for many different situations and the story was written very realistically. The age gap between Julian and Kay isn't really that unheard of, but the fact that he basically raised her is crazy. The spicy scenes are definitely graphic and will make you blush if you're new to that level of 🌶🌶🌶. Even though I haven't read the previous book I really enjoyed it!!

In this book we get to find out Kendra's story and how it changed her life.
When Kendra's parents die when she is fifteen Julian becomes her guardian. She is always getting into trouble but Julian copes with it and tries to keep her safe but when her past comes for her will he succeed.
When Kendra turns eighteen they can't deny the chemistry between them any longer but when her past turns up it changes everything and tears her away from him.
When she is in serious trouble Julian is always there for her but can he get there in time when she is taken.
Full of drama and so much emotion with plenty of suspense but also their love.
I absolutely loved the ending. I can't wait for book 5.

Fight their way through the tough stuff

Julian, a partner in the family security firm, has watched over Kendra, a troubled heiress with a dark past, since her birth. As the story progresses a plan is hatched, signals are mixed, and finally succumbing to their attraction could either be the best or worst thing to happen to them. Lacey Silks spanned years in the pages of this romance novel. Giving the reader a little more insight into some of the events in the previous books, we get to finally see Julian and Kendra fight their way through the tough stuff life threw at them.

I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.

Lacey writes a story that is easy to read, easier to get lost in and has characters that you can become! It is so easy to lose yourself in her writing, and spend the day in the world she has created, believing that you are a part of it, rather than reading about it.

Read these as stand alone, or all together, but myself, I would always go with all, because, well, why not? She pulls you in and keeps you engaged until you reluctantly have to put down the book or you are at the end.

I was given three books (4,5 and 6) as a boxed set by the author to read and review, and I can’t thank her enough for sharing with me.

This story of the series has many twists and turns keeping you engaged in their story. The first few sentences of Chapter 1 Julian clues you in to the tempestuous life of the child he babysat. Katherine is Julian’s godchild & ends up with Julian as her guardian during her teen years, and Kendra is now her name, Kay to her closest friends and Julian’s family. To say Kay is a handful is putting it lightly! 😊 But will true love win and conquer through it all? Could you read just this book in the series? Sure you could but start at the beginning to read all of the good stories!

Lacey involves you with each & every book in her Silver Brother Securities Series! Julian has his hands full trying to hide his "non" godfather feeling t0wards "Kendra", the name she now prefers over Katherine; her given name.

You can't help but get involved with all the "exploits" she comes up with & the harrowing near escapes.

If you haven't read Lacey's newest series, start reading! I can hardly wait to begin Silver Fox; BOOK 5 in this SERIES.

Complex, but intense
The story begins on a note of frustration for the heroes Kendra and Julian, who slowly but surely explode into a complex relationship like their characters. I wasn't a big fan of Kendra in the previous episodes, but this part reconciled me to her character.
The story keeps a part of violence that we already found previously and the story has some passages that are still difficult to read.

This book gets 3 but a very low one the whole beginning was just not if for me I don’t see how not even one character had any common sense and that really pissed me off. And the plot was repetitive with the same dumb antics. I would never read this author again. One thing I can say is the spice alone may get the book to be a good 4 but once you add the plot the rating goes down. This book may be good for some but for me it was a NO.

I enjoyed this book so much. Kendra has been through so very much in her young life. The chemistry between her and Julian is palpable. She works hard to make him see her as a woman and not just as a kid he needs to protect. And she desperately needs someone to love her as unconditionally as he does.

Julian is Kendra's guardian, now that her parents have been murdered she's moved in with him. She's in hiding and changed her name, schooling online and hardly going out. As she gets older Julian finds it harder and harder to keep his feelings to himself. He's still investigating her parents murder.

A good read from Lacey

Silver's Trouble

I suspected Kendra's story was going to be heart breaking and it was even more so than I expected. My sympathies ran out for Kendra when she continually made had choices with little thought of the consequences. This story was well told, not as much of a page turner as the earlier books.

As always with this series the story moves fast and has plenty of action going on. There's plenty of chemistry between Kendra and Julian and plenty of sizzle in this age gap. There's also lots of turmoil and drama but it all comes together with a great finish.

Great story!

Gosh, Julian was so set on making Kay his life from an early start. He loved her from the time she was small, different kinds of love, until he reached a forever love. It took years and many, many ups and downs to get there.

DNF. There were so many plot holes and continuity issues that I completely lost interest. The characters seemed one dimensional and just weren’t very interesting.
