Rate this book

It should be heaps of fun, but will someone get hurt? Or will Billy make sure that everything is okay? This illustrated children's book has a primary focus of ensuring children's safety in the bush and very importantly in the home driveway. It is endorsed by children's author and entertainer Colin Buchanan and all of the authors royalties go to the Georgina Josephine Foundation and children's charity Compassion.

Ok ok so I wrote this little book. I don’t care because I am only rating the illustrations as five stars! This is Alice Hughes’s first book that she has illustrated and I think she has done a tremendous job giving character to Billy Be Safe, Becky Be Careful, Willy Be Wary, Jumping June the Kangaroo, Artie Emu, Beau Blue Tongue and all the crew. What a talented young lady Alice is and you will be seeing more books by her I am sure.

My granddaughters loved Billy , Becky & all the bush characters.
As we read about Billy's day there were so many other prompts besides the important road safety issues. We had conversations about recycling. healthy eating & being sun safe.
The illustrations are simple but exceptionally expressive. We loved the faces of bush characters in the thought bubbles when they imagined what their fates might have been!
Highly recommended for all parents of young readers.

A great kids' book that highlights some really important safety issues. Although my daughter reads independently, we really enjoyed reading this together and talking over some of the key issues from the book. It made her think more about what she can do to keep herself and her friends safe. Highly recommended for all parents of young readers!

Great entertaining story by Pat Kennedy that also has great safety messages about keeping kids safe around driveways and in the Aussie bush. Highly recommend. Great to have such an Aussie book around! And the illustrations are alright too (I did them haha).

What a charming way to reinforce for young readers really important messages about protecting themselves during their everyday activities.

The book's illustrations are beautifully clear and absolutely delightful. As well as the engaging text of the story, there are messages and symbols 'hidden' in the illustrations which young children will enjoy discovering. The use of Australian animals and birds as characters with their appealing names is a real feature of the story. Once children are familiar with the story and have had the safety messages introduced or reinforced the text is accessible enough to be read independently by older readers, perhaps to younger siblings.

Billy Be Safe's Very Hot Day combines essential learning with enjoyment - it's a winner!
