This Friday the 13th has been particularly unlucky.

In dit verhaal komt Jess op vrijdag de 13e in een tijdlus terecht, en dat terwijl dit één van de ergste dagen van haar leven was: ze raakte haar baan, haar relatie en haar huis kwijt, en zelfs haar beste vriendin leek niet zichzelf. Gedurende de (vele) vrijdagen die volgen, zal Jess haar leven en haar eigen gedrag onder de loep moeten nemen, in de hoop een uitweg te vinden.
Jess vond ik in het begin helemaal niet zo'n sympathiek personage: ze komt wat egoïstisch over, met weinig oog voor de gevoelens van anderen, ze is erg impulsief, redelijk onverantwoordelijk en neemt bijzondere beslissingen. Ze maakt wel een groei door, al duurt die op sommige gebieden wat lang, en er liggen meer gevoelens onder de oppervlakte. De tijdlus herhaalt zich vrij vaak, meerdere weken, en ondanks dat de dagen door keuzes steeds net wat anders zijn, zakt het tempo in het middenstuk wel iets in. Verwacht ook geen lachen-gieren-brullen-boek, want de situaties zijn vaak eerder wat serieuzer dan ontzettend grappig. Desondanks wel een mooi verhaal met onverwachte diepgang!

I enjoyed this story a lot more than I thought I would!
I feel like Jess did exactly what anybody else would have done if they found themselves in a Groundhog Day-esque scenario - get up to some crazy antics, mope around at the seemingly impossible situation and then try to sort it out 🤭
Although the characters were quite cliched, and some of the dialogue left a lot to be desired, the overall story was a lot of fun. Jess as a main character was super frustrating to begin with, but I can overlook that since the whole point of the story was for her to grow & improve - and it had a happy ending, so all’s well that ends well 🥰

I really enjoyed this book a lot. Light hearted and warm 🩷 short chapters which I enjoyed and fitter the structure of the storyline. Would recommend!

Dit debuut lijkt erg veel op “Langste. Kerst. Ooit.”, maar dan met een timeloop op vrijdag de 13e.
We ontmoeten Jess die werkt als journalist voor het tijdschrift Real Talk. Ook al is ze de 30 al gepasseerd, ze leeft en gedraagt zich ver van volwassen. Haar beste vriendin Mel was er altijd om orde in de chaos te scheppen. Als Jess op vrijdag de 13e het voor elkaar krijgt om niet alleen haar baan kwijt te raken, maar ook haar relatie en huis is ze helemaal klaar met de dag. Ze is blij als ze in bed ligt en morgen met een schone lei kan beginnen. Behalve dat als Jess de volgende ochtend wakker wordt, het weer vrijdag de 13e is. En opnieuw. En opnieuw.
Dit is haar wake-up call, ook al duurt het wel een behoorlijk tijdje voordat dit tot Jess doordringt. Ze heeft toch juist de tijd van haar leven? De keuzes die ze in het begin van de timeloop maakt zijn allemaal gericht om haarzelf gelukkig te maken. Ik irriteerde me daarom ook mateloos aan ‘begin-Jess’. Maar het boek komt pas tot zijn recht als Jess eenmaal vertrouwd is geraakt met de film Groundhog Day, ze denkt dat ze alles voldoende opgelost heeft om uit de timeloop te komen, en dan toch weer op de 13e wakker wordt. Dit is waar de kern van het verhaal wordt onthuld – het openbaren van schuldgevoelens en trauma's, en het verschil tussen een probleem op papier zetten en het daadwerkelijk oplossen, tussen schijn en oprechte pogingen om het goed te maken.
Hoe onaangenamer Jess, of in ieder geval haar gedrag, word beschreven, hoe menselijker ze wordt. Uiteindelijk realiseert ze zich dat ze te veel met zichzelf bezig is geweest en dat ze haar beste vriendin in de steek gelaten heeft. De vervelende situaties in haar leven heeft ze immers zelf creëert.
Ondanks dat elke dag een stuk herhaling heeft, blijft het verhaal interessant. Mullender brengt genoeg verandering aan om elke vrijdag de 13e net iets anders te laten verlopen. Als je houdt van een boek met humor, romantiek en vriendschap dan raad ik zeker aan om dit boek eens op te pakken!

Wat heb ik genoten van dit boek! Ik lees sowieso graag een boek met een tijdslus en deze was voor mij een voltreffer!
Jess is een geweldig hoofdpersonage. Ze durft haar 'intrusive thoughts' te laten winnen want stiekem zouden we allemaal op een gekke shoppingspree willen gaan zonder enige gevolgen voor onze bankrekening. Jess heeft haar fouten en is niet bang om dat toe te geven en er zich naar te gedragen.
Bovendien draait de tijdslus om meer dan een romantische overwinning, wat ook verfrissend is. Er is geen simpele oplossing ook al lijkt dat misschien wel zo te zijn. Er komt door de tijdslus ook heel wat diepte in het verhaal en de flashbacks naar Jess haar jeugd zijn een leuke afwisseling.
'De Tijd van mijn Leven' is een verfrissende feelgood die eens een andere invulling geeft aan een tijdslus!

This book was the perfect reinvention of 'Groundhog Day'!
The characters all felt loveable and realistic, qualities that really drove the book into the direction the author intended. With every new Friday Jess lived through, we slowly got to see the development and her come into herself as a fully fledged person.
The plot had a really lovely pace that didn't feel rushed or slow, instead it was enough to keep you engaged, making you turn the page when you said you'd stop.
I'd describe the book as a wholesome take on the classic time loop film but with more depth sprinkled throughout. Would definitely recommend.

Op vrijdag de 13de verliest Jess niet alleen haar baan, maar wordt ook haar relatie verbroken en hoort ze dat ze binnen een maand haar huis moet verlaten. Ze is helemaal klaar met de dag. Ze is dan ook blij als ze in bed ligt en eindelijk kan gaan slapen, totdat ze wakker wordt en dezelfde dag opnieuw lijkt te beginnen.
De omschrijving van het boek sluit volledig aan bij mijn verwachtingen van het boek. Het is een heerlijk verhaal om te lezen, vol met humor. Ik hou van het concept waarbij een dag zich herhaalt, maar dat kan verkeerd uitpakken als de eerste dag niet pakkend is geschreven. Gelukkig is dat bij dit boek niet het geval; het is geweldig van begin tot einde en heeft al mijn verwachtingen overtroffen.
In het begin van het boek lijkt alles soepel te verlopen, tot er een reeks gebeurtenissen volgt en Jess er de volgende dag achterkomt dat de helse dag niet voorbij is, maar steeds weer opnieuw begint. Bij elke "nieuwe" dag leert Jess steeds meer over zichzelf en zie je haar als personage groeien. Het is interessant om te lezen hoe de hoofdpersoon hiermee omgaat en welke stappen ze vervolgens onderneemt. Ik heb meer dan eens hardop gelachen om de nieuwe tactiek van Jess.
In dit boek komen bepaalde elementen vaker terug, wat ook niet anders kan, maar ondanks dat is het origineel neergezet. Ik heb van elk hoofdstuk genoten en vind het bijna jammer dat het verhaal uit is. Het verhaal heeft diepgang, behandelt serieuze onderwerpen maar bevat ook heel veel grappige momenten. Als je houdt van een boek vol humor, romantiek en vriendschap, dan raad ik zeker aan om dit boek eens op te pakken!

Okay , so this book is definitely an amazing read. i Would Say like the storyline is very unique and it reminds me of one movie I can't remember the name right now but like it is similar to that movie but, but the main theme is totally different dude..
It is very cozy, slightly funny and it has very beautiful romance in it..
Tbh the fmc??? I am disappointed at her because girlll why the heck you have to be like that ?? When you have an amazing partner with you, just stay with one.. but fmc was very relatable in so many scenes like her way of thinking and taking action and all💌
Overall, this read was fun and like pretty nice..!!!🤍

I absolutely loved the sound of this book. Groundhog Day is up there as one of those films that I would watch time and time again.

We meet Jess who works as a senior features writer at Real Talk magazine. She is 32 years of age but is still living life like a teenager. Jess comes across as someone who isn't ready for adult life just yet.
Her best friend Mel is always there to pick up the pieces. In The Time Of My Life the narrative is told from the present day where Jess makes a mistake in her job, and that of the past where we learn of Jess and Mel's friendship.
"They'd started out at the same place, but as Mel's life became more grown up and successful, Jess's seemed to descend even further into chaos"
As Jess replays Friday the 13th over and over we start to peel back the layers of her personality. I love her carefree attitude and it reminded me a lot of myself when I was younger, thinking that life didn't have to be serious, fun is always round every corner. And because of this the real stuff about being an adult takes a back seat.
But, Jess goes on a little journey of discovery about her life. I won't say to much of course about what she learns and some of the changes. You could probably guess the outcome of some of her decisions as you delve into this tale. But this definitely doesn't take anything away from the enjoyment of the book.
I absolutely loved The Time Of My Life and just check out the naked hardback 😍😍 I absolutely love it. So much has gone into the design 👏🏼 brilliant. I will definitely be keeping my eyes peeled for what Rosie Mullander has in store next.

Dit boek was het perfecte boek om te lezen tijdens de zonovergoten dagen. Ik heb enorm genoten van dit boek en vond het op bepaalde momenten ook echt hilarisch.
We maken kennis met Jess. Op vrijdag de 13e gaat alles mis. Ze raakt haar baan kwijt, verliest haar huis, haar date wil niet meer met haar verder en ze komt erachter dat ze haar beste vriendin enorm in de steek heeft gelaten. Wanneer ze denkt dat de dag eindelijk voorbij is, wordt ze wakker en beleefd de dag opnieuw, en opnieuw, en opnieuw. Hoe ze uit deze tijdslus moet komen, blijkt toch iets lastiger te zijn dan ze had gedacht…
Het leuke van dit boek is dat we elke dag opnieuw beleven, maar dat geen dag hetzelfde is. Als lezer kon ik namelijk niet invullen wat er nu ging gebeuren en dat vond ik heel erg prettig.
Jess gaat op hilarische wijze op zoek naar een manier om van vrijdag de 13e af te komen, maar daarnaast leert ze ook wijze levenslessen.
In dit boek gaat het er niet om hoe je zo snel mogelijk van deze tijdslus afkomt en hoe je zo snel mogelijk op het einde komt, maar het gaat om de reis er naartoe. Het gaat om jezelf verbeteren en dingen rechtzetten.
Mullender schrijft vlot, vermakelijk en meeslepend. De grappigere hoofdstukken worden goed afgewisseld door de wat zwaardere onderwerpen. Het is dan ook zeer knap om het verhaal boeiend te houden door steeds dezelfde dag te omschrijven.
‘De tijd van mijn leven’ is een perfect boek voor de zomer. Ben je op zoek naar een grappig boek, eentje waar je niet te veel bij hoeft na te denken en wat lekker vlot leest? Dan is dit het perfecte boek voor jou.

I really enjoyed The Time of My Life! It’s a funny, heartwarming story about Jess, whose entire life basically collapses in one day. But instead of moving on, she wakes up the next morning and discovers she’s stuck living the same awful Friday the 13th over and over again.
I’ll be honest, Jess isn’t the easiest character to love in the beginning. She’s selfish, impulsive, and a bit of a disaster. But as the story goes on, she really grows, and by the end, I was totally rooting for her in all aspects of her life.
The writing is sharp and funny, and even though I personally don’t read books like this often, it actually enjoyed reading it and will definitely recommend. There are some funny moments, but also a few surprisingly emotional ones that caught me off guard.
Overall, The Time of My Life is a warm, witty, and uplifting read. If you like stories about second chances, personal growth, and a bit of chaos along the way, grab this book! The only reason I didn’t give it 5⭐️ is because I don’t like not knowing what happened next. I’ve got so many questions.

July 1, 2022I don't often go for books with covers like that, but I met the author at a mutual friend's birthday and she was entertaining enough company that her debut novel seemed worth a go*. The flipside of which, of course, is that if you are a fan of the field, my opinion may well be as useless as when a broadsheet posts a glowing review by someone who doesn't read science fiction of a book by someone who insists they don't write science fiction about a robot...but with feelings, yeah? So: Jess lives in a scuzzy flat, its IKEA coffee table fixed with gaffer tape, in a part of London that I'd still have thought was slightly out of her reach given the state of her finances. As the novel opens she's casually-ish dating two men, an idea she got from Bijou, a fancy, aspirational magazine based in the same building as the less glamorous Real Talk, for which Jess reports (and, at the behest of her ghastly editor, massages) relatable stories about holiday romances and shocking infidelities. She daydreams of moving downstairs but upmarket to Bijou, itself a bit of a step down given it was a childhood viewing of All The President's Men that got her interested in journalism. Then a momentous yet not implausible fuck-up sees her sacked even from Real Talk. Also, she gets dumped. And evicted. All on Friday 13th. Then wakes up the next day to find it's Friday 13th all over again.
Now, at this point we do get a slightly frustrating stretch where the whole time loop concept takes a while to sink in, not least because Jess has not only not seen Groundhog Day, but doesn't even seem overly familiar with the concept, which I would have thought was now sufficiently osmosed that even the most determinedly non-geek people in the West would know it. Still, it does provide an excuse for her nan's wonderful precis: "Like in that film? What's it called? The one with that fella who catches ghosts. Hair like a tramp's fanny, face like Deputy Dawg." And I was a bit puzzled that, even during the stretches where Jess seems almost resigned to gaming the situation and trying to get what she can out of the endlessly repeated day, I didn't spot any mention of her taking the opportunity to get her own back on her dreadful boss – just imagine the fun you could have with endless do-overs! But where the book really comes into its own is once Jess has familiarised herself with the movie, thinks she's fixed things sufficiently to get out, and then wakes up right back on Friday 13th again. This is where the meat of the story is revealed – an examination of guilt, and trauma, and the difference between papering over a problem and actually fixing it, between performative regret and genuinely attempting to make restitution. After all, for people who've experienced something sufficiently horrible, it doesn't take a time loop to find oneself trapped by "an action replay that was always with her, lying in wait, ready to pounce at unexpected moments". And the more we're shown Jess, or at least her behaviours, as unappealing, the more sympathetic and human I found her, which is quite the achievement. I continue to find it intriguing that of the recent wave of time loop stories, I don't recall seeing one which explicitly uses the idea as a gloss on those nightmarish, circular days of lockdown. But the more this grounds itself as a way of talking about other real-life horrors, the more it worked for me.
Also, excellent canine characters.
*And I'm not just saying that because, a former Pointless winner herself, she was encouraging me to go on it, though that is 100% a way to get on my good side. Alas, this was a couple of weeks before Richard Osman announced his departure, and sod doing it without the classic team.

Wat als je in een time loop komt? Jess heeft een vreselijke vrijdag de 13e gehad: ze wordt gedumpt, ontslagen en haar huis uit gezet. Gelukkig wordt het altijd wel weer morgen, toch? Maar als Jess de volgende ochtend wakker wordt, is het weer vrijdag de 13e. En opnieuw. En opnieuw. En opnieuw…
Er zijn een aantal tropes in romans waar ik van hou, maar de time loop is daar niet een van. De meest bekende film met een time loop is Groundhog Day, maar ook in De tijd van mijn leven passeren meerdere films met deze trope de revue. Maar in alle eerlijkheid – de time loop is niet helemaal aan mij besteed. In De tijd van mijn leven komt Jess in een timeloop terecht na een gruwelijke vrijdag de 13e. Deze vreselijke dag blijft zich maar afspelen, het héle boek lang. De eerste paar keren is Jess in de war, totdat ze zich realiseert dat ze de dag ook kan gebruiken om te proberen de vreselijke gebeurtenissen van de dag te voorkomen.
Het karakter van Jess is vrij en ze neemt weinig verantwoordelijkheid voor haar daden. Ze is meer van go with the flow en gaat haar problemen uit de weg. Maar tijdens de vreselijke vrijdag de 13e moet ze haar problemen wel onder ogen zien. Door een verkeerd verzonden e-mail verliest Jess haar baan, hoe kan ze dit oplossen? Ook is Jess met twee mannen tegelijk aan het daten, maar dan komt één van de twee daar achter en dumpt haar. Hoe zorgt ze ervoor dat dit niet gebeurd? En door een huurachterstand wordt ze uit haar appartement gezet. Hoe kan ze dit voorkomen?
Maar gaandeweg leert Jess dat ze haar problemen niet kan ontwijken, maar moet oplossen. Waar het leven van Jess op het eerste oog best prima lijkt, blijkt het niet allemaal rozengeur en maneschijn te zijn. De time loop is een wake-up call voor Jess, die gaandeweg leert dat ze eigenlijk vrij egoïstisch leefde. Ze leefde zo in het moment en had ook echt de ’tijd van haar leven’, maar nu kan Jess alles rechtzetten.
Mullender weet de ontwikkeling van Jess’ karakter zeer goed neer te zetten. Door middel van flashbacks uit het verleden worden een aantal sleutelmomenten uit Jess’ leven uitgelicht, waarmee het boek meer diepgang krijgt. Het start voor Jess als een simpele time loop waarin ze begint met de tijd door te komen door bijvoorbeeld nieuwe hobby’s te leren, maar gaandeweg komt Jess zichzelf tegen en leert ze veel over haar eigen karakter. Hierdoor begin ik haar karakter ook steeds meer te waarderen en zo wordt het boek ook steeds leuker om te lezen.

Maar ook vriendschap en verantwoordelijkheid nemen voor je daden zijn belangrijke thema’s, waardoor je als lezer ook een goede les meekrijgt tijdens het lezen. I went into this expecting it to be a fun, laugh-out-loud book with extremely messy characters (in the best way), but it ended up meaning so much more to me then I ever thought it would. I will literally never forget this book.
Imagine the worst day of your life. Now imagine living it on repeat... This Friday the 13th has been particularly unlucky. Jess has been fired from her (way too) comfortable job at “Real Talk” magazine. She's gone from dating two guys to none. She's been kicked out of her mediocre flat. And worst of all, she's really really let down her best friend. As she drifts off to sleep, she is filled with relief that this terrible day is over. Tomorrow she will try to fix things, tomorrow cannot be any worse than this. Except it is. Maybe not worse... but exactly the same. When Jess wakes up the next morning, it is Friday the 13th again. And again. And again. And again.
The main character, Jess frustrated the hell out of me at times. There were so many points in this book where I was shouting at her as I knew what she needed to do to get out of the time loop, but that made her character arc all the more worthwhile and satisfying.

The reason why I will never forget this book is the fact that this is the first book, first piece of media that I have ever consumed, period, that has ever represented CRPS. I have lived with CRPS for 18 years, it started in my leg and now I have it full body, so to read about a character who also has it, even though they were a side character, made me feel so incredibly seen and I can’t thank Rosie Mullender enough for that.

Review/What I Thought: I’m so so happy I read this book! This is a fab debut novel from Rosie which brings about a modern day Groundhog Day!
This was a book which allowed you as a reader to reflect and feel a range of emotions! There were parts here that made me laugh and feel happy but also a little sadness on behalf of the MC.
I will say the writing was very British so something I could easily understand and the British quirks were well known for me. It is a little heavy on this so some references may not be well known to some people.
I found the characters really loveable and I really enjoyed reading about Jess’ journey through a time loop and how she developed as a character! The pace was well done and I was concerned the plot would be repetitive but it wasn’t!
I’ve been reading a lot of romance books lately so it was quite nice to have a little change & this one didn’t disappoint.
Borrow or Buy? Buy! The naked hardcover is FAB
Would I Recommend? Yes!!

Such an enjoyable read. I loved the whole
Concept of the story & throw in some funny and loveable characters and humour and you’ve got a great book! I absolutely loved Jess.. yes she was flawed & immature but she was also hilarious 😂 I really liked her character and felt for her so much whilst she was struggling to understand what was going on. I do love the idea of Groundhog Day and always find it really thought provoking and I felt like

Such an amazing concept and very well written!! The book was well paced and kept me hooked as it has many layers in it!!

Will she be able to put right what went wrong, or will she be stuck reliving the day over and over forever?
A well paced read, with interesting characters and a thought-provoking premise - what would YOU do if you had the chance to live one day on repeat? Definitely worth a read.

A millenial take on Groundhog Day, this was brilliant, witty and full of great jokes and funny characters.
Jess was such a real person to me, with her steadfast refusal to grow up, great one liners and and dodgy moral decisions - all of which hide a sincere, lovely person who has lost their way. I also loved the glimpses behind the scenes at a women's weekly magazine and was cheering for poor Donna as much as Jess!

Picked up because of the cute cover and the time travel / groundhog day angle.
I immediately got ladette, noughties, What Not To Wear, Gok Wan, shouty and slapsticky vibes and did not like that at all.
When around page 100 there still was no movement on the time travel front, I could not take it anymore and DNF'd.

Such a fun read!
An up to date Groundhog Day. The worst day of your life happens and you go to sleep with the intention of a better day tomorrow only to find out the previous day is on repeat!

i don’t know how i feel about this book. i enjoyed the concept but i just couldn’t get into the story and found myself re reading pages to recap what i was reading. This could be because i had to keep stopping and starting it so i couldn’t get a feel for the book
