The Supporting Male Character Just Wants to Be a Tool Man

Rate this book
Shen QingShu, 22, died in an accident. His biggest regret before his death was that he’d been single all his life. He obviously wasn’t a monk, but he’d never eaten meat.

Then, when he opened his eyes, he saw a handsome, self-assured man standing before him. The handsome man parted his thin lips slightly and asked, “Wanna have a one-night stand?”

Shen QingShu didn’t hesitate at all. “Let’s do it! Twice!”

The next morning, Shen QingShu woke up aching all over. Only then did he discover he’d transmigrated into a book. The handsome guy beside him who’d gone two rounds with him was the protagonist gong, Han Cheng, the second son of the Han Group.

And the original owner of this body was just a disliked, death-seeking cannon fodder.

Shen QingShu: …Well, this is f*cking awkward.

But Shen QingShu didn’t panic. Anyway, he was just a cannon fodder. He figured they’d part in a few days

He knew he was a tool man, a character who only existed to develop the plot.

-Half a year later-

Shen QingShu looked at the man next to him and wondered: It’s been more than six months. Why hasn’t he left already?

Until the day he saw the protagonist shou and Han Cheng meet by accident.

Tool man Shen QingShu immediately felt the call of duty. Eyes shining, he prepared to push the plot forward.

“Don’t come looking for me in the future.” Shen QingShu was extremely self-aware.

Han Cheng was shocked. “Why? Do you have feelings for someone else? Who is it?”

Shen QingShu: … Darling, this reaction isn’t quite right.

“I don’t accept this,” Han Cheng said, furious. “One day as husband and wife means a hundred days of grace. Can you even calculate how much grace we have?”

Shen QingShu: … No, wait, what are you talking about? It’s not like I’m your wife. I’m just a tool man, and it’s time for me to go offline!

However, Shen QingShu found that not only did the protagonist gong refuse to let him go offline, he was going to make him his bride!

Shen QingShu: I’m crying.

I like the premise and the summary / description, but the fan translation is sadly pretty bad and unreadable, it's barely a step above MTL. That's why I dropped it.

Transmigration. Cozy. Comedy.
This is probably the most tooth decaying webnovel I've ever read. It wasn't cringe either. It was genuinely heartwarming, sweet and wholesome. The comedy was also top notch! I laughed so hard every time they played their little skits. It was so satisfying and so much fun!

So funny. This novel thrives on the dialogue and MC's absolute shamelessness. He could care less what most people think of him and will call out every issue he has his someone. Regardless of how long the story goes, he seems to keep these traits which I appreciated. Those who work hard are praised friends, those who decide to throw a tantrum are told off.

The relationship with MC and ML flows. It starts with them being friends with benefits and moves at rapid pace in such a neat manner. They definitely click on a personal level and it's nice to see without a bunch of in between drama. Of course, this is when they're not busy creating the drama. When any of the trash characters show up to bother they usually like to put on a giant dog-blood filled web drama plot just to confuse people into letting them leave. They work together and grow as people throughout the story while managing to be very cute together.

The side characters are one of the best parts of this story. While most of them are 2D cannon fodder in the very beginning, the more the plot progresses the more individual characters with motivations and personalities appear. It was so nice to see a number of side character who in many novels would have been a stereotype of a character, subvert expectations and have so much more to them. You can see this best in the case of ML's brother who is hilarious despite his CEO character setting.

Like
• The face-slapping is phenominal and hilarious
• No I'm serious, I spent most of the beginning of this novel laughing at the plots MC and ML come up with to screw with people
• The villains are trashy people but super interesting characters. There are layers to how bad they are and it subverts a lot of interesting tropes
• So many mature side characters. For every trash character, there's a side character that has their own motivations but is a good respectable person overall. It's very refreshing
• The relationship between MC and ML is exceptionally charming. They get together somewhat unconventionally but grow as people throughout the novel
• The extras are great. It's all the little things you want to see in an ending that add up to make it extra sweet
Dislike
• Translation is readable but needs some editing in the early chapters (much, much better than MTL though, thank you for your hard work!). Once you get further in it gets remarkably better along with the maturity of the story itself
• Massive number of metaphors to replace any references to sexual acts. It's somewhat funny in the beginning, gets annoying as time goes on and somehow makes a comeback for the being actually endearing and kinda useful in the plot towards the middle/end (I still struggled for the earlier bit)

The comedy was top tier! I laughed so hard whenever Shen QingShu, Han Cheng, or their family and friends became Oscar level actors deep in the act just to piss people off! All of their enemies vomited buckets of blood with every interaction lol.

While I loved how fleshed out and lovable Shen QingShu and Han Cheng were (the best couple ever, the greenest flags I've read to date), I also loved how the author wrote her villains so detestably. In a lot of novels, you have 2D villains who are just meant to push the love interests along; their reasons for revenge are generically shallow. You're meant to hate them just because they're the villain and have plans to hurt the protagonist or their love interest.

Here, we have villains who are so self-absorbed, so delusional, so VICTIMIZED that they constantly think they deserve the best with no regards of how this would hurt others because they're the only ones that matter. So it is SO REFRESHING when Shen QingShu and gang stage these dogblood skits just to put them in their place and reflect how delusional they are!

Also didn't expect to tear up a few times. How dare you cut onions near me when I'm having a good time reading about Shen QingShu and Han Cheng's super oblivious love for each other! They're hilarious teasing and care for each other in the name of being car friends was so cute and funny. Shen QingShu was so clear headed and strong and was always willing to do what he thought would make Han Cheng happiest. He was so soft but so strong at his core. And Han Cheng was always distressed for him because of this reason. Instead, he was even more gentle towards Shen QingShu. Once they got together for real, it was dog food every day because they were so obviously smitten with each other, which was so fluffy and hilarious.

The parallelism and satire throughout the book was also great. I loved all of the family interactions with Hang Cheng's family. They were great and hilarious together. Finally, an example of healthy family dynamics, especially for a rich family with two potential heirs. Compared to Shen QingShu's family when he transmigrated over, what a breath of fresh air.

Overall, this was a great, hilarious novel. I just wished that the comedy was a little stronger during the second half of the book like how the first half was.

Humor 5/5
This is the funniest book I have ever read. I was laughing so hard at points that I had to hold my stomach and was crying. I mean, it was full on audible laughter 🤗 I was constantly chuckling while reading this.

Characters 5/5
The MC is also one of my favourite MCs of all time. He goes for what he likes and never looks back. He has courage and loves life and the ML with all his soul.
The ML is another one on the best characters list. He is so cute, childish, responsible and a great partner. If I could find somebody like him to accompany me I would have no regrets.
The characterization of the MC and ML is so thoughtful. They come across as real three dimensional people. I cannot stress enough how great the characters in this book are. I truly have to commend the author.

Romance 5/5
The romance here is sooooo cute. It is such a healthy and happy relationship and you can really feel their love for each other through the page. I could not keep the smile of my face while I was reading.

Plot 4/5
If you want a really plot heavy book this is not for you. This story is more of a slice of life book, you basically follow the MC and ML through their daily lives and interactions. Their are some weird moments, especially with the face slapping portion of this novel. Their was one part in particular that I felt was really unnecessary and didn't really fit into the story (It kinda felt like reading a different book altogether). But it was only 2 chapters and I don't really think its fair to lower the rating about it.

Conclusion
This story is very fluffy, very funny, super entertaining and the romance so so sweet and fulfilling.
So if any of that appeals to you, you definitely shouldn't miss this novel.
