Mystical Matchmakers Out of touch with times? Have trouble connecting? All immortals welcome. Find the paranormal romance you’ve been searching for.
Dylan is a wood nymph who's tried everything. Even human dating apps. But none of it has worked. Surely punching your date in the nose because he can't keep his hands to himself is a sign that he's not right for you. Except there's a postcard from Mystical Matchmakers in her mailbox. Maybe she can give love another try.
Clay is a troll who likes his life just fine. He’s a little lonely, but it’s hard to find a date because…well, the whole troll thing. Then, his meddling, baby-crazy mother signs him up for Mystical Matchmakers. She promises to get off his back about making grandtrolls if he follows through. Clay figures a few bad dates are the price for some peace and quiet. However, things don’t go according to plan when he meets Dylan.
They’re an unlikely pair, but somehow, they’re a perfect match.
Rock and Troll is the first book in a new paranormal romcom series by C.C. Wood!
Born and raised in Texas, C.C. Wood writes saucy paranormal and contemporary romances featuring strong, sassy women and the men that love them. If you ever meet C.C. in person, keep in mind that many of her characters are based on people she knows, so anything you say or do is likely to end up in a book one day.
A self-professed hermit, C.C. loves to stay home, where she reads, writes, cooks, and watches TV. She can usually be found drinking coffee or wine as she spends time with her hubby, daughter, and two beagles.
Really enjoyed this book. It’s all about the characters and their story, rather than a love story mixed in with suspense or some major disaster, kidnapping event. Normally I prefer the above but I really enjoyed the characters and the writing with this one. Going to read the next one now!
Cute story, cute characters, annoying at times. Especially her, why was she so chill and ignorant with her stalker situation !? I loved how protective he instantly became. They were sweet together.
I might try the next ones since these are quick reads, with a dash of danger and spice, and unexpected matches.
I recently discovered C.C.'s books and thought I'd give a paranormal romcom a try. I have never read a book like this before so I really wasn't sure what to expect.
I was pleasantly surprised by this really great mix of paranormal and humor with a bit of mystery. Rock and Troll is definitely a quick and fast paced read and I think that has a lot to do with the writing.
I easily blasted through this book with all the amazing banter between these two awesome characters. Dylan and Clay come to life on these pages and I loved every minute of it.
I would say so much more but the blurb itself gives enough away. Just know that it's an entertaining read that you will gobble up quickly.
I'm not sure if I read the same book as the other reviewers...
There was just something about the writing that just didn't work for me. There were a lot on mundane details that didn't add anything to the story. Just a lot of unnecessary information added. Like, I don't care if you washed your hands with liquid soap, turned off the water, dried them with paper towels, considered switching to a hand towel to save money, threw the paper towel in the garbage, turned out the light, and then shut the door. Ok that didn't really happen but that's what it seemed like. If the MC orders takeout in a book, do we really need to hear the order taker tell them that "it comes with napkins, and by the way, would you like a fork as well?" That didn't happen either, but you get the gist.
There are too many modern references that will date the book in a year or two.
Also, it read like a mix of a very squeaky clean romance... and not, lol.
The romance is quick. The baddy is obvious to everyone but Dylan. I thought the idea of a troll as a hero was actually pretty neat. They did make a cute couple, even if it was quick... And I mean quick! I don't have an issue with insta-love. If you know that the other person is The One, then ya know! I liked the little bit of family time that we got. I was hoping for another get together with the family. I assumed a wood nymph would freak out at the idea of a mate that is a wood worker. True love conquers all haha!
I liked it well enough that I might seek out the next book.

Rock and Troll was a cute, light-hearted read. The blurb caught my attention as it is completely out of my typical type but sounded interesting. There are paranormal aspects, mainly just the characters: Clay, a troll, and Dylan, a wood nymph. This doesn't really describe, in detail, what these characterizations entail...just little bits here and there. I realized after finishing the book that I was expecting a bit more from this. After Dylan has unsuccessfully tried dating apps, she's ready to call it quits on the whole dating scene. It just so happens that a new matchmaking service wants to help her (and her plants will not let her ignore it)! Clay's mother has decided she is done waiting for her son to settle down. She contracts Mystical Matchmakers to find him the perfect partner. Being the good son he is, he agrees to try it out. I will say this was a quick and quirky romance that was wholesome and humorous. ~Wicked Reada Review Team~
Oh my word!! I went into this not knowing what to think but I love C.C. Wood so I knew it would be amazing. She did NOT disappoint!! From a kick a$$ female lead to an enduring main MC this book will hook you from page one and you can not put it down!! Not only are the characters amazing but it’s the little details she sprinkles throughout the book that make you feel like you are there, in the book, with the characters instead of watching from the sidelines. I can’t wait for the next one!
Loved this PNR/RomCom/Suspense read. LOL. I can't really put it into a category only that I LOVED it.
Rock and Troll is book one in the Mystical Matchmakers Series.
Dylan is a wood nymph who has basically given up on finding her true love. After going the dating app way with humans, she's done with dating. She's happiest with her plants and books and has come to the conclusion that that's just the way life will be. But her plants have a different plan for her. After getting a postcard in the mail about Mystical Matchmakers, her plants finally convince her to check it out. What could it hurt? Right?
Clay is a troll whose mother will just not leave him alone about finding the love of his life. When he gets a call saying that he's been signed up to Mystical Matchmakers by his mom, he figures one month won't hurt and when it comes back with no matches, maybe just maybe his mom will finally leave him alone.
So when Dylan and Clay are matched and they actually find each other tolerable, maybe even likable, they decide to see where dating will take them. But Dylan has a stalker who just won't leave her alone. She doesn't know who it is. All she knows is that the stalker isn't too happy that Dylan has started date Clay.
These two are fun, and stubborn. I loved the banter between the two of them, and loved how Clay was a caveman when it comes to Dylan. He finds out pretty quickly that Dylan is different from all the other women he tried to date, but Dylan is very independent and even though she connects with Clay she feels everything is going way to fast.
This book has all the witty banter CC is known for. I really loved Clay and Dylan and connected with them from the start. Plus Clay brings on the sexy too - surprising Dylan in the best way possible.
Fun Fun read and can't wait for more in the series!

What does a wood nymph have to do to find a decent man? So she's a bit messy Slightly anti-social And fates forbid she should ever have to go into the woods - just because you are a wood nymph doesn't mean you like to rough it in the great outdoors Maybe finding true love is just not in her stars
Clay has been setup But it's his mother and he loves her He will give her a ridiculous attempt at finding him a love match 4 weeks then he can return to the quiet of his workshop and his quiet life What woman would want a large, at times green, slightly introverted troll anyway? None
This was a pleasure to read I adored Clay - he was this giant marshmallow of a man while at the same time he was solid, protective, a straight shooter Dylan was more demanding than I normally like in my heroines but life made her that way She and Clay fit each other perfectly - He was there to smooth her rough edges and she gave him a bit of direction as well as something precious to care for Her heart ❤️
I laughed I worried (a little angsty suspense) Overall just had a really good time Looking forward to the next in series Heard it might be a Valkerie
This is a fantastic book. And the start of a brand-new series from C.C. Wood.
We dive into the new book world of Mystical Matchmakers, and it immediately draws you in. Dylan, the wood nymph, has been failing miserably to meet any decent humans on the dating apps, she wonders if all humans are this bad. She is ready to give up on dating, humans or magical. But just before she resigns to singledom, she comes across Mystical Matchmakers. Clay, the troll, is fed up with his mother trying to set him up on blind dates, preferring that she just leave his love life alone. His mother decides she has had enough, and signs him up for Mystical Matchmakers. These two meet and the sparks fly… but love and dating is never easy for anyone. You really get to see what these characters are made of and can’t help but want them to work out. This book was a real page turner. C.C. Wood is able to build a funny, endearing, and VERY relatable new series about the perils of dating, dating apps, and the sometimes unsavory characters we meet. I am absolutely hooked and cannot wait for Book 2.
Rock and Troll is a fantastic read. If you love paranormal romcoms then you are just going to love this one. This is book one in the Mystical Matchmakers and it is a must click. I love Dylan and Clay so much. Dylan is a wood nymph who hasn't had much luck with the human dating apps. She is sweet and looking for that spark. Clay is a little rough around the edges being a troll and all but has this huge heart you are going to love. Sparks start to fly after their first meet. Clay and Dylan are just perfect together. This is such a fun laugh out loud read with a little twist along the way that will keep you turning those pages. This is one that needs to be read even if you only dip your toes into the paranormal romcoms from time to time. I love this one so much. I cannot wait for more of the Mystical Matchmakers to come.
Oh my plants, I laughed so hard at parts, I thought I was gonna give myself an asthma attack. Clay is adorably grumpy. Dylan is such a walking paradox of wood nymph that it makes her beyond relatable. The stalker element added a thrilling level of intensity that was just the perfect addition.
I can't wait to read the next book and wish I could blather on about this one but I'd end up spoiling it if I told you everything I loved (since it was all of it) and spoilers are no fun so just know I loved it so much I couldn't put it into words.
Looking for an easy, light-hearted read? Read this! It’s paranormal but still relatable.
Have you ever been interrupted by family when things are about to get steamy with your date? This is probably my fav scene in the book!
If you’re like me and went a little plant crazy over the last couple of years, you will like that Dylan has quite the collection. Although, mine don’t interact with me which I now feel cheated. Lol
Cute, funny, and quirky are the best ways for me to describe Rock and Troll by C.C. Wood. This is a paranormal romance and I have to say I have never read one quite like it. I caught myself smiling as read the dialogue between Clay and Dylan. You can never underestimate the sarcasm of a wood nymph or a troll with a quick sense of humor. Wood created a fantastical inner world within the human world where paranormal…. not creatures but beings can live and fall in love. The story is based around a matchmaking service and the people that use them. Mystical Matchmakers is bound to produce many great “tails” (yes, I spelled it that way on purpose). Rock and Troll is a warm sweet story with a little bit of hidden danger, but the danger is some thing you will not be expecting. I loved this fun paranormal romance and can’t wait for book 2 Lady and the Vamp. 5-supernatual stars for Rock and Troll by C.C. Wood.
Oh my gosh Rock and Troll was so damn good. I absolutely love the storyline, characters and all things in between. If you are wanting a really great book with all the possessive feels while falling in love with the characters I highly recommend this one by the lovely C.C. Wood!!!!!
This book is a light, delightful paranormal romantic comedy that had me falling in love with a troll. Who would of thought that was a possibility? Not me however this troll is sweet and sexy with Dylan and is also great with his hands. I like all of the side characters too especially Clay's mother. She's hilarious. There a little bit of suspense thrown in to the story line as well. This is definitely a fun, fast read that will leave you with a smile on your face.
The characters are well written and will reel you in right from the start. The story is full of fun banter, danger and romance. Definitely worth the read!!! Well done C.C. Wood!!
4.5 Stars When I read this blurb I was so intrigued by idea of a paranormal matchmaking service. I'm so glad I gave this book a chance because I fell in love with this book. I loved Dylan and Clay. It also made me realize I need to read more paranormal romance. I loved that Dylan is a wood nymph and Clay is a troll. I liked Dylan's connection with plants. It a part that really stood out to me. I love Clay's mom and sister. This book definitely delivered on the laughs. I was chuckling a lot through out the book. This book also had plenty of heart. Clay is a grumpy guy, but he had me swooning with how he was with Dylan. She calmed the grumpy beast in him. This book is not all sunshine and rainbows. Some intense serious moments thrown in, Over all this book was such a delight to read and has me hooked on this series already. I definitely can't wait to read more in the series. You know I enjoyed this book because I read it in a day. I just couldn't put it down. The characters sucked me right in
As always, CC Wood delivers another fabulous story! I thought the book was funny, romantic and very much a great read. I loved the mystical aspect of the story, but the relationship theme was classic CC! I definitely recommend this book!
Dylan has lost faith in finding a match for herself but she is convinced to give it one more try but she is wary when she meets a troll named Clay. Clay's Mom is convinced she needs to intervene and get her son a match, and in walks a Wood Nymph named Dylan and he is hooked. Little do they know someone else wants Dylan too. I loved this story and how steamy their connection is. I can't wait for more from this series and author. Highly recommended!!!!
Rock and Troll had everything, suspense, love and the right amount of steam. I loved Clay and Dylan they had great banter and instant sparks. I really enjoyed this book.
A great start to another great series by one of my favorite go-to writers.
Dating Sucks! If you're single & dating, you've been in Dylan's shoes, more than once. This was such an easy read! Great story, good relatable characters.. all the things I've come to love about C.C. Wood!! Just one thing... When am I gonna find my Clay?? hahaha!!
The first third of the book was good. Not great, but good enough. But then it started to get annoying. The heroine was really getting on my nerves. I loved that she was a feminist, but she was too much. She was too hard on the hero and I think that he deserved better. I was really annoyed with how she handled the stalker situation. First, it took her way too much time to involve the police, and while I know police aren't always helpful, at least she would've done something instead of doing nothing. And she hid from the hero that she was still being contacted by the stalker, and instead of her apologizing for hiding something so important, she got mad at him because he was mad at her for hiding things from him. And he apologized to her. And throughout the whole book, she kept lecturing him in a nagging, unnecessary way.
After reading this romance, I’m officially a fan of this author! I’ve never read a paranormal romance from C.C Wood. I absolutely loved the Mystical Matchmakers sign up. Having a troll and a wood nymph was really the perfect match. I laughed at the funny situations Dylan and Clay got into. He was raised perfectly (wink) by his mom and sister. His mom signed him up without his knowledge and Dylan’s plants pushed for her to get signed up. They’d both had bad dates in the past and were ready to give up on dating. This book is sweet, sexy, interesting and throw in a little stalking to put you on edge and it’s amazing! I’m definitely going to find more books from this author and buy them. I’m in love!
