This review is from the English Translation of I Language
‘Trust only the authority of knowledge and nothing else’ – a book of wisdom and guidance

Israeli author Ofer Grosbard is a clinical psychologist, having earned his degree in Conflict Analysis and Resolution from George Mason University. He lectures at Tel Aviv and Haifa universities and the Arab Academic College for Education. His writing skills have been shared in both books and academic articles. His books to date include THE ORGASM FANTASY, MENACHEM BEGIN: PORTRAIT OF A LEADER, THE ARAB WITHIN, the CRACKING THE CULTURAL CODE Series of four books, LICENSE FOR INSANITY, and now I LANGUAGE, translated from the Hebrew by Shira Atik.

Dr. Grosbard continues to offer insights into cultural and behavioral adaptation to the world as it continues to change. His sophisticated depth of knowledge as a clinical psychologist brings valuable guidance to all who read his books. In the Introduction he shares, ‘Our story begins five hundred years ago, at the dawn of a new era - a period often referred to as “The Age of Enlightenment – when human beings began to separate from the group…Before this era, throughout all of human history, people conceived of themselves as part of a community, not as separate individuals…You would have to be completely outward-oriented: it would be a matter of survival. In the modern era, a unique phenomenon developed in the West, something unprecedented in human history, a phenomenon that affected not just individuals but large groups. People began asking how they themselves felt and what they themselves wanted. Social pressure was weakening, and individuals were becoming the center of society…the centrality of individuals, “I language” (as opposed to “We language”)…This development allowed creativity, science and democracy to flourish in the modern era…’

In an easily accessible manner Dr. Grosbard introduces the Thinking Vector, allowing the reader to understand the spectrum of responses between the We language and the I language and the proceeds to present rules of I language to observe, such as ‘Don’t give in to peer pressure: it’s what you think that matters, Learn how to give and receive compliments, Truth is more important than personal relationships, Learn to play by the rules, Be proactive not reactive, Learn to be assertive without being aggressive, to stand your ground without surrendering or commanding,’ etc – each rule presented as a case study for understanding and each is accompanied by some fine illustrations by Danny Kerman.

This is an erudite and very important book as written by a humanist who cares about human dignity and adaptations in a changing world – keys to success. Very highly recommended.
