Vampire Tea Room Magical Mystery #5

Steeping Secrets: The Magical Tea Room Mysteries

Rate this book
Twenty-seven-year-old Minnie Wells is in hot water.
First, a popular fast-fashion store down the street from the tea room in Bath, England, is burned to the ground and a dead retail worker found inside. Then, the authorities confirm the fire was arson and the young woman was murdered.

Even worse, suspicious bite marks were found on her neck. Bites marks that might’ve come from a vampire or shifter.

And since some of Minnie’s best friends at the tea room are vampires and shifters, she vows to find the killer to keep her innocent pals (and her crush) safe. Even if she’s still barely learning to use her witchy powers and already has a bit of a history with the handsome local detective.

The very same detective who’s teamed up with a brash vampire hunter, leading both of them to grow ever more suspicious of Minnie’s snooping into so many local murders. Hey–it’s not her fault if she happens to be better at putting together the clues than the local police force.

Besides, she’s got a handsome Mr. Darcy-esque vampire boss, a wise witchy mentor, and her adorable talking black cat familiar on her side. Together, they’re bound to catch the killer and arsonist–whether they be human or supernatural–and to get justice for the poor murdered girl. If only she could be so certain that her romantic feelings for her boss Fitz would lead to something more than friendship.

But when her sleuthing leads to wild a goose chase through the tunnels criss-crossing below the quaint streets of Bath, a run-in with the infamous vampire council, and local shop keeps to internet influencers with much to hide, Minnie’s in over her head.

Can Minnie tap into her witchy powers in time to catch the killer and save herself and her friends, or will this brew death and disaster?

Steeping Secrets is the fifth book in the charming Magical Tea Room Mysteries. These books are fun, clean, imaginative mysteries you’ll stay up all night binging.

Steeping Secrets is the fifth book in the Magical Tea Room Mystery series by Erin Johnson.

I absolutely LOVE this series and WOW this book was so FANTASTIC!

I love Minnie Wells; she is such a fantastic fun character.

The vampires Fitz and Gus are so much fun and I just love the tea room.

There is a murder and an arson and Mini is investigating.

This was such a fantastic mystery and I love the budding romance between Mimi and Fitz.

So much excitement and action I just loved this book, so well written.

Can't wait for Minnie's next adventure.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy from the Author. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Steeping Secrets by Erin Johnson is steamed with a cup full of secrets. First, we have a cute short story about Minnie and Fitz going to the movies on their non-date date. Second, we have the actual story.
Can Minnie rule out her friends of any wrongdoing in this recent murder case?
Minnie Wells
Minnie Wells is our sleuth and witch extraordinaire. She is still working on her magic and getting to know Fitz out of the tearoom. I still have to say Minnie and Fitz are super adorable together. Minnie is getting pretty good with her magic, and I love Tilda's remarks to her. Overall, Minnie is getting better with each book that Ms. Johnson writes. I am curious to know what happens in the next book and if they can catch a certain vampire.
Steeping Secrets CRThe Mystery
Minnie sees something about a fire happening when she was scrying one morning and goes to the tearoom to make sure Fitz is okay. Instead, another store was burning, and Fitz wasn't in the tearoom that early in the morning. Minnie and Fitz, along with the crowd, find out that there was a dead body in the building as well. She decides to investigate the murder since it seems like it could be related to the vampires or shifters which she knows two vampires and a shifter now. Minnie wants to make sure that nothing bad happens to any of her friends. I figured out who did it but not why they did it until I got further in the book. Hopefully, Minnie knows what she's doing.
Five Stars
Steeping Secrets by Erin Johnson is a fabulous book that you can read without knowing what happened in the last five books. Ms. Johnson is a fantastic author that has a lot of potential in this series that connects to her other two series in the same world. I love this whole world she has created, and I can't wait to see what happens, especially with what is going to happen with Minnie.

I am giving Steeping Secrets by Erin Johnson five stars and recommending it like I always do. Minnie and her friends are such a hoot to read about.

Another day, another death for Minnie to look into: A clothing store down the street from the tea room is set on fire, and the remains of a young women are discovered inside. Even more alarmingly, the autopsy reveals suspicious bite marks on her neck and the local vampire council is making noise about wanting to assert stricter control over all vampires on their turf - which would include Fitz and Gus, neither of whom are particularly thrilled at the prospect.

Another great entry in this series. Minnie and Fitz's inevitable yet excruciatingly slow romance might finally be going somewhere.

In the latest entry in the Vampire Tea Room mystery series, Minnie and her vampire friends Gus and Fritz get involved in yet another mystery, when a building next to the tea room burns down. Why are they investigating a fire? Well, in addition to clearly being arson, the body of a woman is found dead inside, and it looks like she was killed by a vampire.

As the story plays out, we get to see more of the vampire council and the evil Darius. We also get to see more of the vampire hunter, mentioned in the previous book. I liked the mystery and continue to like Minnie and her friends (and her cat).

This is definitely a light paranormal, so if you want truly scary stuff, this isn't the series for you.

Enjoyed this tea room mystery

I always like the familiar comrodery of Winnie and vampire friends Fitz and Gus. Mystery begins when a building near the tea shop is burned down and a body is found inside killed by what looks like a vampire. And strangely enough a new vampire hunter is in town and working secretly with Detective Prescott. Winnie investigates, gets herself in trouble and continues to work on her magic. It's all in a day's work and a super fun read!💓

Minnie is at it again....and in trouble. When a young woman is found in the burned-out remnants of a building, Minnie discovers the victim had vicious bites on her neck. And, Minnie has a long list of suspects. She knows the killer is not her friend/roommate/landlord, Gus. And its not her "The Mr. Darcie-esgue" boss, Fitz, to whom she's very attracted. Who burned down the building where the dead girl was found? And why?

Since it looks like a vampire was involved, she's "invited" to a vampire Council meeting where the leader is included in her list of suspects. Since she's already been snooping....er sleuthing, she is asked by DI Prescott to help the vampire hunter find the killer/arsonist.

How can she keep her friends safe and look as though she's helping the police? What about her attraction to Fitz? Can she bring him out of his Recency Era thinking regarding romance? Read this fun book but please, start at the beginning of the series so you'll fall in love with these characters as I have. You won't want to miss a single page.

It's the start of a typical day form Minnie, until it isn't. She's looking at the tea leaves in the dregs of her tea cup and then she's transported into a vision. Flames, the Tea Room sign, a red glow and a vampire hunter. The ominous feeling has her bargaining with Tilda to wait for her breakfast and get to the tearoom as fast as she can.

The fire thankfully wasn't at the tearoom but rather down the street in a newly renovated and just opened store front. She sees Fitz in the crowd and is relieved he's okay. They are preparing to detour around to get to the tearoom when they see a body being brought out of the building.

Not wanting to stay around any longer Fitz and Minnie start toward the tearoom only to be stopped by DI O'Brian. He doesn't like Minnie and doesn't bother to hide his feelings. He's accompanied by DI Prescott who once had a date with Minnie, but it didn't work out between them. With Fitz's vampire hearing she already knew the victim's name and that arson was suspected. She just couldn't let on she knows.

It's more the presence of the hunter that has her concerned, as the building is too close to the tearoom and Fitz. She also warns Leo so he can let his family know and gets invited to his family's mid-winter gathering. But for now, it's business as usual for the tearoom although with an early close to cater High Tea for the Bath Preservation Society.

Cho forgot to lock the door and Zoe from All Wool and Good comes in for coffee and a scone. Minnie fills the order quickly, but the conversation takes an awkward twist when Zoe mentions having a fire sale. She backtracks quickly when she realizes how insensitive that sounds especially since she's not a fan of B&C and their clothing line. She does concede to change the name of the sale to something less offensive and encourages Minnie to stop by.

Now the High Tea is an interesting affair, with many prominent business owners present, including the owner of the building where the fire occurred. He seemed more concerned about getting his insurance money than the young woman who died in the fire.

Now Minnie has two suspects right off the bat, Zoe and Wesley Spaulding. Then Calvin shows her a viral video of an influencer Freddie Fowler causing a scene at the store with Aniya complete with threats. At the shifter party she's expands her list adding one of Aniya's coworkers to the list, Alfie Sallow was stalking Aniya yet the manager wouldn't even change her shifts around to help protect her. Instead of this list getting smaller it seems to be growing exponentially.

While working on expanding the distance in communicating with Tilda, Minnie runs into the hunter. He formally introduces himself as Kurt Alpenjager and it seems he wants her to move away even though he's the outsider here. He's not even clear about why.

It's not until Gus and Fitz do some inquiring of their own and a little break in that she finds Aniya Brown had bite marks on her neck. That says vampire, and that's why the hunter was hanging around.

Gus and Fitz are going to team up to search for Alfie, and Minnie comes up with some ideas on how to find him. But it's Fitz who remembers the tunnels and they find him but don't do anything right away.

Things get all kinds of twisty as this story unfolds, I couldn't tell what was going to happen next. Of course, it's Minnie who does solve it but I won't say how or whodunnit.

One of the most dangerous murder mysteries in this series yet! This time it involves a fire, a vampire hunter, and a murder where the victim had vampire bite marks on their neck. Minnie's sleuthing in this book came with a lot more danger tied to it as it put not only her vampire friends at risk of being discovered but all of her supernatural friends. As this series has gone on Minnie has made more and more friends who are part of the supernatural world. It has been fun to see Minnie grow through each book.

In this book, we also get to see Minnie use more of her magic. Her lessons with Mim have definitely been paying off. I do love the flow of this series and the continuity of relationships between Minnie and other side characters. I was hoping to get to see more magic and this book delivered. I hope to see more in the next couple of books in the series. I'm going to be sad once I get to the final book. I love reading about Minnie's adventures.

Another great thing in this book is the romance between Minnie and Fitz finally sees more progress. It's been a very slow burn which makes sense with Fitz being from the regency era. But, I can confidently say to anyone that has been waiting for more to happen this is the book where more romance blooms. While the romance is never really the focus of this series I do enjoy it and seeing where the Minnie and Fitz relationship may go. I do enjoy seeing all of Minnie's relationships in this series - with her best friend and roommate, her magic teacher, and her coworkers. Johnson writes a great ensemble of characters.

The murder mystery in this book comes with two mysteries. Arson and murder! I found this one a little easier to figure out but there were other plot points I wasn't expecting. Things get dicey as we see more of the threatening Vampire Hunter and the dangerous Vampire Council. There are a lot of tense moments in this book that are fun to read through.

I highly recommend this whole series but this book was one of the best ones so far. It is currently my favorite read of the series. And I can't wait to read the next one!

The book starts with a special edition bonus short story about Minnie's date with Fitz. They go on a movie date.

Another day in Bath. Another murder in Bath. Strike that, a murder and arson in Bath.

Minnie has a vision of a fire while scrying one morning and goes to the Butler café/tearoom early to make sure everyone is okay.

Another store was burning, and the tearoom hadn't even opened yet, Fitz was on the way to open. Minnie and Fitz and the typical gatherers find out that there was a dead body in the building as well, one that had unusual bite marks.

Minnie decides to investigate the murder since it could be related to the vampires or shifters and she wants to keep her friend safe because of the Vampire hunter who is working with DI Prescott.

The local Vampire community as well as the Shifter community may be in danger of getting exposed. Darius, head of the Vampire council is making noise and tries to get more control of all vampires. Fitz and Gus are not amused/thrilled, but so aren't some other council members.

Minnie is a step ahead of the police, with the help of her supernatural friends, but gets of course in trouble nonetheless.

Another great addition to the series. Minnie has grown character wise over the series, getting more confident and making new friendships. And her romance with Fitz is finally starting to bloom.

A wonderful page turning addition to The Magical Tea Room Mystery series that keeps you turning pages until the end. In this book we find Minnie and her boss, Vampire Fitz treading very slowly on a little romance when Minnie sees a vision in her tea leaves that comes true. There is a fire in the store near The Tea Room that destroys that store B&C Clothing Factory and a girl's body (Aniya) is discovered in the ashes. As Minnie and Fitz watch, they see a Vampire Hunter in the group talking to one of the police investigating the fire and murder. It seems to Minnie and Fitz that the paranormal beings living quietly under the radar may all be in trouble and blamed for this so Minnie decides she has to find the truth as to who committed arson and killed the poor girl especially when Minnie's roommate Gus discovers a vampire killed the girl. With the help of Gus, Fitz, her Witch mentor and her familiar, Tilda, Minnie and crew take us on a wild roller coaster ride to a surprise ending. I couldn't put this book down until the end. It is fast paced and fun and the little bit of romancing or non-dating as Minnie first called it will make you smile. I received and ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

Steeping Secrets is the fifth book in the charming Magical Tea Room Mysteries. As the story unfolds, Minnie devines from her tea cup that a fire is about to happen to the Tea room.
As she rushes to try to prevent the fire and anyone getting hurt, she discovers it is not the Tea room but another store nearby that is burning. A body is found in the burnt store and it looks like a vampire killed the victim. Minnie gets involved as she has vampire friends that didn’t do it.

As Minnie and her friends investigate, they get involved with the vampire council, the police, and the resident vampire Hunter. Minnie is so much better at putting the clues together than the police or vampire hunter.

I enjoyed this paranormal story and hopes Minnie finds a relationship she can be comfortable in. Ms. Johnson gives us so much to feed our imaginations. I love the character growth and Minnie’s relationships with her fellow workers.

I recommend strongly this book. I was given an advanced readers copy and these are my own opinions.

After reading all of Nancy Warren's witchy mysteries I was in need of another witchy series, and I picked up this series last year. This is the fifth book in the series and I just can't get enough of it!

I adore Minnie's curiousity and she puts that to the ultimate test in Steeping Secrets, as there is also a nosy vampire hunter on the scene. Along with vampire politics, Minnie must also dodge the vampire hunter and try and keep her friends save. I really like the addition of these "side stories" in cozy mysteries. They make me want to pick up every new book to find out what is going on in Minnie's life! Because her life sure is interesting.

The mystery was a tangled web and I didn't manage to solve it before Minnie. It definitely kept me guessing right until the end.

If you like paranormal mysteries you need to add this series to your reading list. I recommend starting with Spelling the Tea, the first book in the series. I listened to the first three books on audio, and it was the best introduction to the series. One book and I was completely hooked!

Minnie is still in Bath and working in the Butler Tea Room, where Fitz the owner is reluctant to modernise as it is in the style of his heyday when Jane Austen walked the streets. Fitz and Minnie are tentatively dating, but taking things very slowly, however the two are constantly getting their personal lives interrupted by a murder or two!
Minnie is in investigative mode once more, hindered by her very brief dalliance with the good looking but not very charming detective who is in charge of the current case which involves a historic building being set on fire and a young woman inside who was not killed by the blaze but had bite marks on her neck. To make it worse, there is a vampire hunter in town who is in league with the policeman.
Can Minnie solve the mystery without revealing her own and her friends secrets and without becoming a victim herself?

Another murder in Bath! I love touring the streets of Bath with Minnie, Tilda, Fitz & Gus. This time Fitz was more involved which I loved because he's my favorite character. Don't get me wrong, I love all the characters including Tilda, but vampires have always had a special place in my heart along with Jane Austen and the Regency period. I'm totally digging the Fitz/Minnie dating bits, too. These characters are so well crafted that their personalities shine through, revealing their idiosyncrasies. Erin is a master at showing the settings with just the right touch. How does she come up with all of these great murder mysteries? This time the body of a young girl is found in a burned out building after fire fighters put the blaze out and that's all I'll say because I don't want to give anything away. Read the book. Read all of her books.

*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.

I must admit that I am fully addicted to this series!! Minnie is fabulous FMC and she is funny as can be. She has embraced her job at the tea shop but at the same time is enjoying the investigations she has found herself to be apart of. A accidental scrying has her worried for Fitz so she leaves early for work where she find another business on fire. A dead body inside leads to lots of questions and when the vampire hunter pops up again Minnie feels compelled to get involved. We are taken on an intriguing adventure as the clues play out leading to a surprising conclusion. I especially loved the ramp up of her relationship with Fitz. Makes for a fabulously fun read. I totally loved it so I give it 5/5 stars.

Minnie is still a witch learning her skills and how to survive in a world filled with vampires, witches, shift changers and so many other different people. Trying to protect her vampire friends from the vampire hunter is something that keeps her on edge. Learning to talk to Tilda, her cat, and listening to what she tells her is important.
She has meet a very powerful vampire and he does not like her. This vampire does not like that others do trust her. She is once again caught in a murder and trying to protect her friends and find out who the killer is keeps her in danger. Living in a town with people and keeping their lives secret is not easy.
If you are looking for a delightful, suspenseful and a little bit of romance this a wonderful book. I would recommend it to everyone. Once you learn the characters you find yourself waiting to read the next book.

I found myself smiling throughout this book. Minnie and Fitz are spending more time together outside of the tearoom but both are taking it slowly..a snail's pace. But their relationship gets put on hold by a fire in a historical building that had just opened up after months of renovations to make it into B & C clothing factory. But worse than that, there is a girl's body discovered among the rubble which has questionable circumstances surrounding the murder. Add to that a vampire hunter waiting in the darkness, a vampire with a deadly agenda and the exposure of the supernatural world so it's a race against time to solve the mystery. Can Minnie, Fitz, and Gus figure it out before it's too late? An amazing read!!

Minnie Solves Another!

Minnie solves another murder but finds herself smack dab in the middle of a mess this time!

It is always fun to watch how she untwists the mystery and utlimately the pickle she ends up in. But this time there just might not be any saving Minnie as she tries to outrun a vampire stake, a gun, and the Vampire Council!!

And still she searches for that ever elusive kiss from Fitz…

Erin Johnson does a great job keeping the pages turning, yet again. The pace is just right. The story is light and easy, the characters are great as usual. And the handsome Fitz remains ever the gentleman, always looking out for his Minnie.

Good read. Looking forward to the next in the series.

What a ride!

Minnie is drawn into the murder of a young woman that was found during the fire. Minnie will have help from Gus and Fitz run down clues to who could have done it. Minnie also gets to meet other shifters thanks to Leo. Things turn dangerous when the vampire council calls for Minnie, to see what she knows. Minnie and the guys have to decide what to do next. Their next step is extremely dangerous.

This book will have you hooked. There are so many twist and turns that will keep you reading. The ending will have you wanted the next book now. I can't wait to see what Minnie is going to do next and what happens. I highly recommend reading this book/series, you will enjoy every moment.

Everyone Has Secrets

Well first off Minnie gets closer to Fitz! Yeah! You go girl!
So much happens in this book it’s hard to wrap things up in a concise paragraph! I love that we learn a bit more about Bath in this book. It sounds like sub h a cozy place, doesn’t it? There’s more in depth information about a few people, Minnie is surprisingly astute and figures quite aa few things out about a fire that happens a few doors down from the tea-shoppe. She finally begins to trust herself more, which is a good thing.
Loved the way things wrapped up and it sets the stage for other books.

Love this series!
Minnie is at it again, sleuthing (as she calls it) to solve a mystery. Fitz, her boss, and Gus, her friend, are concerned for her safety. She’s working at marketing the Bath Butler Cafe, a local tea room. But, the mystery she’s trying to solve happened near the tea room. Can she solve the mystery while keeping safe and not getting caught by the local policeman who has teamed up with someone who appears to be a Vampire Hunter? The local area has vampires, witches, and shifters. They don’t always get along but will need to so that all of them can remain safe. Looking forward to the next book!

Well Minnie has a crush on her boss, and she and Fitz have decided to take it slow. Then she has a vision of a fire and in that fire there is a dead body and on that dead body they discover bite marks. Minnie also discovers that a hunter is also on the case and she has to keep her friends safe. Ms. Johnson is an excellent writer and this book is a proof of that. The characters are consistent in the book as well as in the series and the plot is easy to follow. My favorite characters are Minnie and Tilda, The Cat. I highly recommend getting this book and the series. Thank you.

Tunnels of love?

Mine's back & trouble's not far behind. When a recently renovated historic building falls victim to fire, Minnie suspects the wealthy businessman owner, the smarmy Spaulding. But when a
body of a young employee is found inside, Minnie's in full sleuthing mode. Despite Inspectors Prescott & O'Brien warning her off, she won't stop. When it turns out a vampire killed her & with the vampire hunter still around, Minnie is determined to keep her supernatural friends safe. But Minnie's in for an even bigger surprise in a story full of twists, turns & tunnels.

Witch and Vampire vs Hunter

This is a very enjoyable paranormal cozy series. The characters are continuing to be flushed out and the plots get more and more intriguing. In addition to yet another murder near the Tea Room, Minnie and her vampire friends, plus a shifter or two are up against a vampire hunter. Which of Bath’s many secrets has steeped too long and which might boil over? If you like light paranormal cozies this series is worth checking out. If you’re new to this cozy sub-genre, this is worth trying out.

Charmingly sweet.

The Magical Tea Room Mysteries carried are excellent. I absolutely love the main characters, and the are are interesting and entertaining.I

Sterling Secrets gave further insight into the dastardly Darius, as well as the vampire hunter. I'm curious to see how our protagonist handles her new under-cover role as a huntress.

Now for the next book...

Sterling Secrets gave further insight into the dastardly vampire overlord', Darius, as well as the vampire hunter.

Another brilliant adventure for Minnie and friends as she snoops/sleuths/investigates (description depending on who is talking!) a mysterious fire and a death – but are they actually connected? Add in further run ins with the vampire hunter, police, vampires and other supernaturals as well as Minnie's growing crush on Fitz and it all adds up to an entertaining and exciting read.
I received an ARC of this book but voluntarily leave this review.

Never who it seems

Minnie throws herself into the middle of the action once again while everyone around her rallies to make sure she isn't caught in the cross fire. Minnie makes plenty of mistakes but this time her lies are what get her even more entrenched. While you sometimes want to grab Minnie and shake some sense into her, Erin has written a fabulous story that makes you forget it's not real.

Sleuth Versus Snoop

Minnie thinks that she’s a sleuth, while most folks think she’s a snoop. Either way, she figures things out before the police do. This time a building near the tea shop is severely damaged by a fire. In addition, the body of a young woman is found with bite marks on her neck. But aren’t vampires afraid of fire? See if you can solve the case before Minnie does. An excellent read; I highly recommend it.

Oh Wow!

Oh wow! So many twists and turns with fire, murder and mayhem. Minnie yet again gets mixed up with a murder but who or what is the murderer! So nice to read more about Gus this time. Will Fitz finally make a move on Minnie?
Just when you think Minnie can't get into more danger, she does. How will it end?
Can't wait until the next book!
Erin writes brilliant stories that keep you guessing and wanting more.
