2.5 Ugh torn being intrigued at some moments and bored others. And of course periodically angry at unneeded “fan service” teen nudity and sexual poses and low cut tops and angles. Like at one point a shadow attack makes the young adult woman character’s swimsuit disappear so she fights naked? Absolute bull shit.
Considering continuing since I have more from the library but I’m so up and down on this from page to page. Like volume 4 omnibus is a foot away from me so I’ll maybe read it? But all these horny drawings are so unjustified.

I don't know guys, I'm really digging this manga. I have seen some mediocre reviews on it but it's like the farther I get into this series the more and more hooked I am. I had purchased the first 3 volumes quite some time ago so now I am caught up to what I own and all I want to do it immediately start in on the next volume but I don't have it!

I will still say that the action is not as easy to follow as others mangaka but there is a formula that Yasuki Tanaka uses with the action and once you catch on you can quit struggling with the story and just immerse yourself into it. Often times what feels like some random thing will happen in a panel and you're like "wait, what?', but if you just keep going with the flow what has happened will be explained in the next several panels. I don't love it either but I accept it. Anyway, I'm just trying to explain this so that someone who wants to keep going with the story but is struggling following along it may help keep you reading because, like I said, I really think this series is actually quite good.

I am fully invested into Summertime Rendering series even without all of the blood and gore I am curious to where the shadows have orginated from. Although it is only a thought it is wise not to mess with human's determination or survival skills the island pharmacy is deeply involved with playing God but they don't how much a person's freedom is worth. I look forward to reading the next chapter in the series it is worth all of the wait for.

While I enjoyed this volume. I'm not sure how I feel about this series. It's entertaining enough for me to keep reading but I'm not as into this series as I was after I read the first volume.

I'm really, really enjoying this series so far. After reading the first two volumes, I preordered the rest and got vol. 5 & 6 first, then 4 and finally volume three a week or two ago. I can tell you how I'll be spending the next few days...
The story is a bit complex, but in a good way, and the audience is rewarded for re-reading sections. In addition, there are a number of helpful charts and recaps that summarize some more confusing aspects of the story (like the timeliness in vol 2 and the summary of Ushio's shadow powers in this volume). Highly recommended!

While it doesn’t hit as hard as the ending to vol 1, it manages to do new things with the formula that was laid out in volumes 1 & 2. This closes the halfway point of the manga, and starts to bring into focus the threat of the enemies that our protagonists are poised against on the island. The beginning is a little more fan service oriented than I would like to see, but not overly exploitative. I hope that going forward there is some shake up to the narrative, as I don’t know if the start can sustain 3 more volumes of the status quo as it has been set out.

I like that some characters are teaming up now. I don't like how Mio gets the shaft, she's just kind of left alone to veg out while our main guy goes off exploring. Seems like the MC is gonna fall for a shadow of her sister too and not Mio, so that also kinda sucks for Mio.

Thoroughly enjoying the manga so far. I have already watched the show but I really like taking my time with the read to understand the ins and outs of what's going on. The creep factor can get you when you turn the lights out and have to go up stairs lol. I love Hizuru and how badass she is.

Even better than Volume 3, I'm beginning to really enjoy this series!

There's even more background information unpacked here. It's finally revealed how Ushio was killed and what that means to the present. And then the protagonists, split in two groups actively bring the fight towards to antagonists.

The shadows and their backgrounds are explained to even more detail, diving fully into Japanese mythology. It works really well and I enjoy how cocky the antagonists are. The mix of mystery, horror and action feels just right and I can't wait to continue with the next volume.

I paused this for almost 2 months, so I’m a bit foggy on the minutiae. So its a bit confusing but I like teamwork. It’s probably a 3.5 stars.

The story just keeps getting more intense, with many more reveals happening in this volume. It feels like we are making good progress to solving the mystery, even if this volume ends with a total reset once again. This time around Shinpei had to sneakily kill himself because the shadows know his power activates when he dies.

This volume starts with a backstory of the day thst Ushio died, one where Shiorih(Heine/Hiruko) kills her because she’s found out. In the memory the real Heine appears and marks Shinpei before they leave it. So apparently Heine can travel between memories or the data of other shadows, which explains her talking to them all.

Sou has now gotten on board and is the lovable goofball with a baseball bat, a welcome member of the team. Shinpei, Ushioh, and Sou, choose to investigate the old clinic in the mountains which is where Shiori saw her first shadow and the Ushio pair encountered a decayed old shadow, one that probably lost its human counterpart body and must survive off of animals. These decayed ones are appropriately grotesque and seem to be the mindless grunts/guards of the cave in which Heine is recovering. The cave was once open to the sea but was closed up after the soldiers left the place after the war. Which explains the downturn in the amount of shadows around.

I was shocked to find out that the doctor family has been feeding Heine(Hiruko) bodies for generations in order to satisfy the god of the island. Is she actually a god though? She has the form of the first child she copied, but when was this and where did these shadows come from. There seems to be a tie to the deep sea because there’s a whole garden of deep sea shadows leading to the cave.

This volume ups the action quite a bit as everyone is finally learning how to battle these monsters. Yet still they failed this time but now we know where Hiruko is and that Shiorih is actually her. How this changes things from here on out will be intriguing to see.

The four armed shadow continues to be a mega nuisance and the main propagator of violence against our heroes. I’m hoping he gets taken out in Round 5, which begins when Shinpei tells Hizuru and the hunter that he’s from the future. This is after the wedding, so this means that he’s already talked to Shiorih in this timeline and it’s stuck.

This volume takes over from volume two with the video that Ushio and Ushioh made to explain how they have been working together to stop the shadows. Ushioh then remembers everything that happened from the moment she copied Ushio, and she shows Shin and Sou from her own memories what happened to Ushio. Ushioh then remembers all the practice she did in using her special shadow powers, and the three go to an abandoned medical facility on the island to investigate further. Several paths lead to this facility, and before long, the pairs of Mio and Tatsu, and Master Negume and Ginjiro also enter the medical facility. They all learn much more about the shadows’ plans, but are once again unable to stop everything bad from happening, so Shin loops back for a fifth time.

This story is so intense! From the first page to the last, I was hooked on every discovery the characters make to try and save everyone. In the back of my head, I know Shin can loop and start again if things really go sideways, but it seems that the ways he has to die get more painful and horrible every time he does it. And with the time gap closing, certain events will be set in stone and he won't be able to fix things. All of this adds to the intensity of this story and keeps me flipping through the pages. There is a little more magic in this volume as we discover how the shadows work, but there is still plenty of mystery and suspense for readers who started the series for those things.

​This volume does have a couple of scenes where Ushio/Ushioh are naked. In one, Ushio comes back to her house to shower but finds Ushioh in the bathroom after she has already stripped down. Later, Ushioh’s battle-swimsuit is compromised as the shadows try to gain control of her again, so it starts to disappear from her body. In both instances, Ushio/h's breasts are exposed, but the rest of her body is not detailed.

✨ Writing a grouped review as I started reading this series a few months ago and read it over a few months. I do not remember the specifics of each specific volume apart from the overarching story and specific ratings for each volume. ✨

As a sci-fi/mystery series this is not my most common genres but this series honestly surprised me in a good way.

There is a not insignificant amount of fan service, especially in the earlier volumes which I didn’t love but it gets better. The series does also get a bit more repetitive at times.

However, I would recommend this series. It is genuinely creepy and disturbing at times. Good use of the groundhog day trope as well

So Round 4 comes with a lot of discoveries and flashbacks because we finally unlock Ushio's phone and we find the shadow's nest. Now as to what exactly the shadows are planning... is still unclear. Well, we know what they want to do, we just don't know exactly why. Personally, I'm interested in Nagumo's past because I wanna know what happened to Ryonosuke.

I'm totally invested in this mystery. The gore is great, too, but at the core, the mystery is really superb.

Shadows, fantastic characters, groundhog day-like story, and above all, a great story. I'm very excited. :)

The slow beginning at the start of the series is not a great example of the rest of the series, except in establishing character. The rest is wild.

I think I’m about halfway through the series now? And I’m really enjoying it! Like several seinen series I’ve read however, the bits of nudity are quite unnecessary and its presence is just plain weird. The series would be better and the story wouldn’t change one bit if it wasn’t there. But otherwise it’s a fun, grim-dark mystery with some really neat ideas!

So they are discovering things and trying to manage the battles with the knowledge of the time travel and whatnot. I am a bit confused about what they discovered and what they are going to do with it now, so I guess I will be reading another one. However I might decide that the portrayal of women annoys me too much to continue.
