Heart of a Wolf

Rate this book
After living with a faulty heart her entire life and finally getting the surgery she needs, Jo expects a long recovery. Instead, she experiences almost no pain, has a heightened sense of smell, and more energy than she knows what to do with.

Of course, getting back to a normal life would be a lot easier without the ears and tail.

Thrown into a world she knows nothing about, Jo will have to prove herself to the other wolves as well as Fallen, the woman who makes her heart race the most.

For Fallen, teaching the newly-turned wolf how to hunt and control her shifts is bad enough without their feelings getting involved. Loyal to the Alpha, there isn’t anything Fallen wouldn’t do for her or the pack she leads. She’d even give up her own life if it ever came down to it, but what about her heart?

Would she give that up as well?

With Jo struggling to find her place within the pack and Fallen doing whatever she can not to give in to her wolf’s lust, can these two women find common ground, or is their bond doomed from the start?

Heart of a Wolf is a sweet lesbian romance with werewolves, lust, and a happily ever after.

Librarian note: This Author now publishes as Callie Hall

Growing up, Natalie loved it when a romance included a second chance for the characters, especially ones that already shared a history with one another before the start of the book.
Because of this, it's one of her favorite themes to use along with situations that might leave the characters stranded in a small, confined space.
Regardless of the story, she always puts the romance first, sticking to the sweeter side of things as that's what she loves the most.
When she isn't writing, Natalie enjoys spending time with family along with her fuzzy companion, Pepper.

This was close to being a DNF book. This is supposed to be a supernatural romance. The main character Jo, is a sick doctor who gets a heart transplant. Unbeknownst to almost everyone the donor was the mate of the local alpha. the book takes for granted that we (public society) know that werewolves exist & that modern human society is also aware. They have a weird segregationist relationship with humans. The doctor starts to experience her first change the day she returns to work at the hospital. She's sent home early & is found in the parking garage in the throes of a painful change by said alpha & her pack. They kidnap her & take her to their mountain compound. She immediately starts to talk to a wolf & can hold a full conversation despite being in human form. This plot lunacy also takes place with her veterinarian human sister & the wolf pack. She falls for her captor Fallen, if you're expecting any sort of chemistry or fire/smolder you get nary a whiff of any. In fact, there no real physical descriptions of any characters. This book is waste of time, don't waste the free book space on KU.

This is my second book about wolves by Natalie that I have read. This was even better than I expected. There was is a lot of interesting information about wolves and there nature that I found fascinating. Some of the story is heart breaking and had me in tears. The love story that develops during Jo's stay with the pack is very touching. This is one of those stories you just have to read for yourself. I held my interest from beginning to end.

good, but ending was rushed

The story premise drew me to this story. I hadn’t read of a turning that had been caused by transplant before. Reading Jo’s journey of figuring out how to live in this new world was enjoyable, if a little less detailed about shifting than I am used to for shifter stories. The mystery of how it happened gets repicked up near the end for a rushed closure.

Good plot

Did not see how surgery could turn Into a werewolf. The only thing was the quickness at the end. All slammed into in a few last pages. Just little more explanation would help.

Good story

This was a different approach as to how Jo became a werewolf. will not give the plot away but it was interesting. There were some items that were left hanging without any explanation. Like how Dani (the Alpha’s mate) died. Overall, it was a good story.

I've read genuine waste of time books eg. those books advertised on facebook where you have to pay money to read a chapter (almost all of those books are a waste of time). Or alot of books with the words alpha, mate, billionaire in the title. THIS IS NOT THAT TYPE OF BOOK

This author writes short books that satisfies my craving for a short story. I like wolves and can tell you there are soo many trash wolf shifter books. These are nice books if you don't mind FF relationships.

Some of her novels don't quite flush out things in the story, but for the most part I can say her stories are feel good, FF romance. I actually thought the plot was an interesting take.

Again, I don't mean to throw shade, it's just, these books are free on kindle unlimited and its worth trying out. Everyone has their own opinions fair enough. I find people too quick to call things they don't like trash. Frankly, alot of books have a trend nowadays where they dont end. If you want a simple story, with a decent beginning, middle and end, I recommend this author

Shifter stories can be a bit hit and miss at times. The feel, the interactions between the characters, where the focus is, and how it all works together. This one, though, is definitely the former. A thoroughly enjoyable read that pulled me into the setting, got me involved with the characters, caring about what happened and how it would all end up, and wanting to see the mystery of how Jo got the wolf heart resolved.

If there was something that I wasn't expecting with this story, its that wolf shifters are a know thing, and allowances and a treaty exist. It's mentioned early, and works into the story quite well. I'm not sure if I've seen that much at all in non-fantasy shifter stories, but it is definitely an avenue that could be explored a lot more.

Like all of C.A. Halls books, the prose on the lighter side, but even so I enjoyed it, and would definitely recommend the story.

A medical mystery and lez romance.

Interesting shifter story. Was fun to read. An orthopedic surgeon has a heart transplant and three months later, on her first day back at work, she becomes hyper aware of smells and sounds. She finally decides she needs a few more days before resuming her normal activities and leaves the hospital. But when she gets to the parking garage she experienced the worst pain of her life - and shifts for the first time. As fate would have it, a couple of werewolves find her, and take her with them to their packs compound. This is where the story begins.

A love story but no hard core sex scenes - it was kind of refreshing!

Started off okay and got worse

My biggest gripe about the book is how confusing it got to read. Once the main character gets to the pack it seems like she reaches a different conclusion every other sentence. She's constantly contradicting what she just thought/realized. And to make matters worse, the plot and dialogue starts moving way too fast. There was just this convenience, like the characters were actors rushing through a script they all knew instead of actually talking.

Intetesting new take on becoming a werewolf

It was a good read but I expect that from Ms Hall. It was a mystery if how she received a transplanted wolf heart. She then later turned into a wolf surprising herself. She finallygot adjusted and fell for another war. Most if the other paranormal novels have thst happening from a bite. This is an interesting new tare,. Alsothis was well plotted and written, thoroughly enjoyable! Cant wait to read the next novel in the series.

Refreshing change in point of view

Much of the story is told from the main characters shifted self and that’s refreshing. The shift of viewpoint deepens the involvement in the story and understanding of the characters. Nuzzling and running provide the sweet bonding not heated howling.

Great premise and plot

Character development could have used some work. I wanted to get into the characters' heads a little more. The story was told well, but I didn't always feel it. But it was a good read nonetheless. If your into were/paranormal fiction and you get tired of everything being hyper sexualized, this is a book for you.

A beautiful paranormal romance

Natalie Brunswick has created a wonderful and interesting human to wolf conversion. This story is engaging and the characters are very much alive. The MC’s have a complicated relationship because of love, friendship and loss but in the end it is always about love.

A cover-up at a hospital, that doesn't happen!

A transplant patient received a wolf heart. The complications that arise after serious investigation and the struggles the patient goes through to master her new abilities. Enjoy!

I would give this 2.5 stars if I could. Good premise, ok writing, but there are some things that don't add up when dealing with werewolves. It could have been better if more time was given to fleshing out the logistics.

Different...

Ok as above, this is a different werewolf story. It was a very good read. Though a bit bland in some sections. But never the less a good read.
So go ahead and give it a try. I don't think you will be disappointed.

Ok

It’s ok for a short read, there really isn’t any form of action in the story, maybe one our two intense moments with an ok love story, overall it’s a ok read.
