This is the first Biography that I have read that was not Chronological from start to ending so that threw me off a bit as well as the semantics of much of the British government structure. I was more than confused on the British politics and social structure.

I would recommend a very strong understanding on British government and politics before reading this book otherwise you will wind up being lost as I found myself on more than one occasion.

3.5 stars. It is interesting about the slave trade and then even more so about the moral standard. It is split into two sections (Wilberforce and the slave trade, and Wilberforce and the moral reformation). I can't tell which is better. I think the parts are better than the whole. There are some fantastic one liners, but not as much meat when you think of the book as a whole. ...more

A well writen and cocise desciption of the life of a remarkable man

If you thought that all Wilberforce did was guide the Act to Abolish the Slave Trade through Parliament, then read this biography. He was and did so much more.

Not chronological, which was really helpful for getting the big picture. I wanted more, but this book was not intended to be exhaustive--Wilberforce's sons wrote a five-volume biography already. This was enough to describe Wilberforce, his culture, and how he changed it. Hugely inspiring. ...more
