Formerly a mild-mannered librarian, she had a quarter-life crisis and shook everything up. She started working in an LGBT homeless center, shaved some of her head, and got really into tarot. After realizing that her goal in life was to get out of her small town and she only made it 30 minutes up the highway, she filled a bag and left. That was two years and a dozen countries ago.
A Witch Called Red is her debut novel and will be released on November 20th.
I know I say this every time about this series, but this book was amazing. I just loved it and this one is the best so far. Each book just gets better and better - each is fast paced, with lots of action, a bit of romance with lots of witchy spells and powers.
In this one, Red has regained some of what she lost many years before and is determined to get the rest back to make herself whole once more, but this is not an easy feat by any means. With her main enemy sharing out what was stolen, she has to take several trips around the world to find, defeat and take back from her enemies what she needs. Luckily for her, she has Kristoff with her - he is a great ally, but Lucas' comments do make me wonder some times if Kristoff is really what he says he is. I guess that's the whole point - we will never truly know Kristoff's true intentions until the very end, be them good or not! Lucas just came across as an interfering, jealous ex, but maybe his intentions and worries were real???
Red is a great character and I have loved seeing her grow throughout this series. Now she is more determined, although sometimes she's a bit rash in her decisions, but I think I would be in her situation too. I love the relationship between her and Kristoff - I do think they are good for each other and work really well as a team, but there's still a little of me that is not 100% sure about him!
I loved how all the different factions came together in this one to defeat the common enemy once and for all and although he was defeated, the ending wasn't quite as satisfying as I wanted - I wanted what Red wanted! I am positive he will get his true comeuppance in the next book though! Can't wait for that one to come out now!
I received a copy of this book from the author, but this review is my own honest one!
After seeing Red grow steadily 'book after book' looking for clues to her true nature in the past instalments, the moment has finally come to close the past and focus on the future, preferably after a good vacation to relax and begin anew. But knowing Red tendency to end up in the middle of every ‘strange’ situation, you can be sure that right from the start “Her vacation officially sucked beyond redemption”, much to our fully enjoyment. I confess, I love Red beyond words 😉 I just can get enough 😊
„Payback’s A Witch” is the eight instalment in the “Red Witch Chronicles” by Sami Valentine, a fantastic UF-series with a rich developed world, a formidable heroine, likeable characters, credible foes, and interesting twists. Valentine treats us once more to a rich, fast-paced plot, filled with both lots of action and character development.
Every “Red Witch Chronicles” book is (I know unbelievable but true!!) even better than the last, no surprises there, but “Payback’s A Witch” is already a quantum leap in this fantastic series… and I’m already sure it would get even better: next instalment is called “Prison Witch”… not a spoiler 😉 it on the list in the copyright page for everyone to see 😊
This is book eight of this fast paced urban fantasy series. The story stands on its own pretty well, although you will be missing some of the background for the characters and situation.
This story is well written and packs a complex plot with lots of unexpected twists and turns. The characters are well developed and so is the setting giving us all the elements we need for an excellent story. And this one delivers on that promise. Our heroine is both tough and smart, but she starts at something of a disadvantage here as death will do that to you. The result is an action filled plot with plenty of intrigue and mystery to boot. Overall, another excellent story and I am looking forward to seeing what comes next.
Highly recommended.

I extremely enjoyed finding out more about Red and her past! I feel that this is even better that book 7 and it is a great surprise. I enjoyed the mystery and suspense of it all and I am so excited to see what happens next for Red and Kristoff. I do enjoy Red paired with Kristoff as they are a favorite of mine. I absolutely Loved It!!! No Spoilers! Give it a read! I received an ARC from the Author and I am Leaving this Totally Honest Review because I Choose to and Love everything about this book!!!
This book crossed all the T's and dotted all the I's right up to the end. The previous books were like little arias, oratorios, moving forward, become louder with intent, with plot, with motivations but this book...this was like Beethoven's Fifth, a symphony of revenge and ill gotten gains and Red road that wave of inevitability, even as she experienced success. I beg you, anyone who adores urban fantasy and spectacular action, to read this series. Just like it says on the tin, the cover doesn't lie and this is as good as it gets! Wowzers!
Wow so much of Red’s past comes to light in this book. I am pleased to see her romance and relationship with Kristoff is full on. Lots of action but near the end it looks like it is all going to work out then that cliff hanger ending can’t this girl get a break.
This book starts off with lots viewpoints on what happens at the cabin when Maxwell finds red. And it turns into a globe hopping tour for revenge! As Red gets closer to Maxwell, does she get farther from herself? Will she catch him or will he get away again. It’s a suspenseful ride and I can’t wait for the next book!
Red is on fire. Seriously. I do not know how to compel you to read this book, but if you like Urban Fantasy, this is the series you need to get into. A LOT of ground is covered.
