A grandmaster of lies and deception

Drake Radcliffe has spent half his life in the shadows. Recruited by the CIA when he was barely out of high school, Drake doesn’t know how to have a normal life. While most people his age were playing sports or video games, he was playing spy games with the world’s most dangerous adversaries. It has been a life filled with thrills and adrenaline, but it’s also been lonely. All that might change when a mistake from Drake’s past rears its ugly head and he’s forced to face the only woman he ever loved—the one he pushed away.

A beacon of love and compassion

Taylor Cline committed the cardinal sin for an analyst—she fell for the operative she was working for. Drake was everything she wanted in a man, until he broke her heart. She had one unforgettable night with him and then he never looked back. Her career threatened, she shut down and moved on, hoping to never see him again. Just as she is beginning to put it all behind her, a critical assignment puts her under his authority and right back in his arms.

A deadly mission that brings them together

From the wilds of Wyoming to the glittering cities of Europe, Drake and Taylor must race against time to uncover the truth and expose an evil organization. The stakes couldn’t be higher. If they fail, the world could crumble. If they succeed, they could finally have everything their hearts desire.

Three stars for the book's plot/romance as a unit, an extra star because I LOVE Lexi Blake and her signature humour did not disappoint.

She's the definition of a comfort read for me (along with Cassandra Gannon). I don't normally mention an author's personal life in my reviews, but she was also recently diagnosed with breast cancer. I wish her the best in her recovery!

Right, onto the book. This one features Drake Radcliffe, a CIA wunderkind introduced a few books ago, along with his ladylove Taylor Cline. 18 months ago, the two of them spent a week together in a snowed-in hideout; they parted on bad terms, after Taylor believed he was seducing her for information and Drake believed she was a traitor.

They unwittingly reunite to take down Julia, Drake's evil half-sister (a long-term villain in this series). By this point, Drake has realised he's in love with Taylor and wants her even if she's a traitor; she isn't having it.

I'm glad to announce that NO STUPID MISUNDERSTANDINGS WERE ALLOWED TO FESTER. I was genuinely afraid that they wouldn't sort out this traitor/seduction issue for most of the book, but actually Drake learns very quickly that Taylor ISN'T a traitor, and she meanwhile learns early on that he actually fell in love with her, not with the information she could provide. She still makes him work a little for it though.

I did say I gave the story as a standalone 3 stars, and unfortunately that's because I didn't feel a ton of chemistry between the protagonists. Lexi Blake is usually queen of the fast-paced relationship, and she usually makes me totally invested in it, but on this occasion I just kept shaking my head at the characters. Drake, Taylor, you guys knew each other for a WEEK! Their feelings of betrayal felt totally disproportionate to this.

Though at least they remained celibate during the separation, even if an ex-lover of Drake's is in the book (without causing any OW drama). Sandra's actually like 40 years older than Drake, which I can't say I liked reading; she's literally older than his mum. Whether it's the male or female who's older, I can't help but think an age gap like that could produce some very uneven power dynamics, and it didn't help that Drake isn't even the youngest lover Sandra has ever had.

But anyway, while the romance was unexpectedly weak, the characters as a whole were funny as ever. There are some good one-liners, and the plot (while initially confusing) did resolve later.

Also, the epilogue was FABULOUS. It drops more breadcrumbs about the upcoming kids' books, and I for one cannot wait. I don't even know how I'll make it till the next release in February, which is Kyle/MaeBe - another couple who've been teased for ages.

Drake and Taylor's story was especially good for me because I love when a hero messes up and grovels to get back into the heroines good graces. The best thing is the mess up wasn't something that was unforgivable. It didn't make me hate him. It was mostly a misunderstanding. I also liked that Taylor didn't push away too much. It gave us time to see these two back together and enjoy it.

I also think one of the biggest draws for me with this series is the big extended family that is in all these books. Some by blood, some not. They all behave with such comradery and love for each other. The way they tease each other like siblings, and always have each others backs. It's addicting and just something I've always loved in my books.

That teaser at the end has me salivating for the next generation. I think this is just one of those series that we will all demand more of despite how many books have already been published in the series. It's that good!

I won’t bottom for you. I’ll probably walk into this dungeon when it opens tonight because I need a session given the amount of stress I’m dealing with and maybe I’ll pick out some hot cowboy top to help with my stress relief, but it won’t be you.”
“And what do I win if it is?”
“You’ll win my dead body because that’s what it would take.”
“I like a challenge, Taylor.”
“I’m not a challenge, Drake.”

I feel like I've been forever for Drake's book. He's been a vivid secondary character for so many books and a complete and utter mystery. I've been eagerly anticipating every morsel of detail about this enigmatic CIA operative and I just knew that his story would be a juicy one. And you know what? I was not wrong.

I love a good second chance romance, especially when that second chance romance has a good grovel. And when said grovel lasts for almost the entirety of the book? GAH. Delicious.

Taylor Cline is no stranger to the life of a spy. After all, her father is one of the most notorious agents there were, and he taught her everything there is to know since she was a kid. Sliding into the role of being her father's handler was not a difficult one and she's d*mn good at her job.

When a mission gone wrong lands Drake at the safe house he thinks should be empty, he has a hard time understanding how Taylor is there. Taylor takes care of the injured Drake and then quickly bond over their life and it doesn't take long for the chemistry between them to burn too hot to ignore. They share one night together before it all goes catastrophically wrong and Taylor realizes that Drake is not the man she thought he was.

Years later, a critical mission lands these two together and while Drake is thrilled for the second chance he's been craving, Taylor wants nothing to do with him. And when Drake learns just how epically he screwed up with Taylor based on some wrong intel? Well, the juicy parts start.

I loved how Taylor makes him work for it, and boy does he. This is no meek woman. She may not have as much experience, but she's so fierce in her own right. She's set on revenge and she has no intention of letting Drake break her heart again. But the mission can't be done without both of them, because the target they're hunting has a shared link with them both.

My favorite parts of this series is all of the cameos from my favorite characters and every bit of Big Tag's inappropriate humor. I love this man and will never get enough of him and his ball busting and matchmaking ways.

This was a high octane, thrilling page turner with a sizzling second chance romance full of heart and a delicious grovel. And this girl? Devoured every page.

Lexi Blake is fabulous! There you go. I might as well set out my stall from the start. I absolutely love the whole Tag world, filled with fabulous friendships which transcend that title to one of found family, I love the wit, the banter, the strength of the characters, both male and female, and I love the storytelling.
With a passionate start, to deep acrimony and distrust, to meeting again, fighting, working together, arguing together and finding out the truth, you always knew the fur would fly and Drake was going to need some very fancy footwork to get back into Taylor's good Grace's, or anything else for that matter ☺️. With deadly deadlines to meet and overcome we are taken on a delightfully wild ride, and I loved every minute! 💖💖💖💖💖

Drake's book has been a long time coming and holy cow was it worth the build up. If you have read any of the past books in the M&M Reloaded Series you've met Drake especially in the last one, The Man from Sanctum with that crazy ending, well folks this book is one you won't want to miss because Drake and Taylor not only know how to heat things up they know how to get things done within the agency as well.

Lexi Blake has crafted a world where Agency employees can work side by side with Mercenaries for a common goal, well most of the time anyway, and I absolutely love this mix of Men and Women that tote the line and others that aren't afraid to bend it when necessary. In NO TIME TO LIE both Drake and Taylor work for the Agency but Tag and some of his men are right there along with them for this mission...to bring down an organization and one woman in particular, Julia.

I loved the chemistry between Taylor and Drake but what I loved even more was getting to see all the cameos from previous books show up to help fight the fight. And the Epilogue was such a tease, I cannot wait for The next generation of M&M.

This book was written at a difficult time for the author, she had just been diagnosed with breast cancer, and she mentions that writing was a way to work through a lot of what she was going through. I know on a personal level that reading helped me through my breast cancer diagnosis and surgeries, and while she dedicated this book to her doctors and nurses I would like to thank her for the countless books she has written that helped me through my darkest time. Sending you love and well wishes Ms Blake and Thank you for all the joy you put in our lives.

If you enjoy Steamy Romantic Suspense, BDSM Romances, Second Chance Romances, or Workplace Romances I would recommend this book to you.

Happy Reading!!!

A thrilling second chance…

Whew – was this another roller coaster ride in this spin off series! Every moment gave a knock out punch as Drake and Taylor battled the bad guys, each other and their own hearts…

A one night stand is supposed to be something you quickly forget. One and done, that’s it. In the spy world though, ghosts have a way of popping up when you least except it and how often do you see an ex-lover suddenly take on the role of boss? Their jobs were anything but ordinary and life and death situations were the norm. The balancing act that became their courtship was a ‘hang on each word’ thriller, with excitement coming from danger to their lives and their hearts…

Each twist and turn built on the last and came together in a non-stop adrenaline rush kind of read! Be prepared for another well-written story with unforgettable situations and characters yet again. I will never get enough! ~Diane, 5 stars

4.5 stars-NO TIME TO LIE is the fourth instalment in Lexi Blake’s contemporary, adult MASTERS AND MERCENARIES: RELOADED erotic, BDSM, romantic suspense series-a spin off from the author’s Masters and Mercenaries: The Forgotten which in turn is a spin off from the Masters and Mercenaries series. This is former CIA agents and McKay-Taggart operators Drake Radcliffe, and Taylor Cline’s story line. NO TIME TO LIE can be read as a stand alone but for back story and cohesion, I recommend reading the series in order as there is a continuing theme / plot line throughout. There is a slight cross-over with the author’s NIGHTS IN BLISS, Colorado series written as Sophie Oak.

Told from third person perspective NO TIME TO LIE focuses on the acrimonious relationship between operatives Taylor Cline and Drake Radcliffe, and the search for a killer who is obsessed with the take down of the employees at McKay-Taggart. Approximately eighteen months earlier, an injured Drake Radcliffe found himself on the mend in a safe house in Romania with CIA operative Taylor Cline, the woman with whom he planned to spend the rest of his life but a take down was in progress and Taylor was pulled out of his life, never to be seen again. Fast forward to present day wherein Drake discovers his new assignment involves the search for a woman he long thought dead, and his partner was none other than the woman he could never forget but all was not well within the Agency, McKay-Taggart or with international relations, and our couple, along with the operatives at McKay-Taggart would find themselves in the middle of a dysfunctional family plot to rule the government and eventually the world. What ensues is the second chance relationship between Drake and Taylor, and the potential fall-out as betrayal is at the heart of the entire operation.

Taylor Cline thought she found love the day an injured Drake Radcliffe arrived at the safe house in Romania but secrets and lies lead to another betrayal wherein Taylor found herself in custody, with the possibility of never again seeing the outside world. Drake Radcliffe had no idea the fall-out of his latest operation would result in a betrayal at the highest level but when he discovered he would be working with the woman’s whose heart he destroyed, Drake was determined to claim our heroine as his own.

The relationship between Drake and Taylor begins on the job wherein Drake will fall instantly in love with our story line heroine. Eighteen months apart where Drake believed Taylor was no longer in his life found Drake determined to reclaim what he once thought was lost but all was not well within the Agency, as a possible mole was working to take down everyone involved. The $ex scenes are erotic and intense with some BDSM and Dom/sub scenarios.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful, energetic, fun and familiar characters many of whom we have met in the previous series including Big Tag and Charlotte, Sean and Grace Taggart as well as Grace’s son Kyle Hawthorne who has been at the centre of the McKay-Taggart fall-out.

NO TIME TO LIE is a detailed, complex and multi-layered story line of betrayal, loss and vengeance, obsession and infatuation, power and control, ambition and rule, family, friendships, relationships and love. The premise is twisted, dramatic, intriguing and driven; the romance is seductive and provocative; the characters are powerful, strong, animated and impassioned. The epilogue, once again, reveals a glimpse into the future-the second generation of McKay-Taggart agents, CIA operatives, and espionage and spies.

What do you look for in a Masters & Mercenaries book? Tension? Humour? Sexy times? Ian Taggart? Check, check, check and check. And a protagonist who needs a smack on the back of the head!

Start to finish, this was an enjoyable read. Great storyline, great story telling.

Amazon / Amazon Worldwide / Apple Books / Nook / Kobo / Google Play / Amazon Paperback / Audio / Audible / Amazon

Taylor and Drake had a brief but significant moment years ago, but it ended in less than ideal circumstances. She's spent the time since becoming a truly amazing spy now working on a critical op. She's got vengeance in mind, she's gunning for the people who killed her father, himself a legendary spy. Then who finagles his way onto her op, but the man who broke her heart all those years ago? She faces a choice to either walk away from the op she's created, or to stick around and work with the man who betrayed her.

Drake has spent all this time thinking Taylor was a traitor. Now that he knows differently, he's determined to have a second chance with her. He knows he's really blown it with her, and that's she's more than angry, she wants revenge for her father's death. He can help her get what she wants, and get his second chance with the only woman he's had feelings for in years. Will she ever let him back in? Or keep a tight lid on the heart he wants?

Fast-paced spy romance with a great couple. It's what I've come to expect from this series and the one it's spun off from, and that's exactly what Taylor and Drake gave me. Though they fell very quickly, the feelings were obviously very strong considering how they felt even years later. Taylor made Drake work his ass off for forgiveness, he gave very good grovel! The heat between them is delicious (hello Dom Drake!) and the suspense is just as intriguing as the relationship. There's also a very appealing epilogue that gives a glimpse of an upcoming series perhaps, that I'm already anxiously waiting for more of.

~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~

This is the fourth book in the M&M Reloaded series, and is another excellent story bringing together protagonists from earlier books, and tying up some loose ends for favourite characters. I highly recommend that you read the wonderful M&M series from the beginning to completely understand the side jokes, the importance of each person's past, their family and the loyalty of the group. It is both entertaining, amusing and complicated - but always genuine.

Both Drake and Taylor have had the strangest of childhoods, and career paths. I loved finding out the detail and the similarities, yet differences which make them so perfect for each other. It was so enticing to see them in the snowbound cabin starting up their romance, that I was genuinely annoyed at the twist in the tale - but knowing Lexi Blake would find a way to give them their second chance, I carried on in hope, and anticipation.

A great mix of old friends, embarrassing stories and fun ensured that I read this late into the night and loved every minute of it. Already excited to see whether the hapless Kyle can finally get things straightened out with MaeBe.

I never can get enough of Lexi Blake's Masters & Mercenaries series. Always keeping a reader in suspense and on their toes. I never know what is going to happen next, but always hanging on until I find out.

This is book is a part of a series, well more than one series. I truly enjoy and appreciate the plot, I think they need to be read in order. Believe me when I tell you if you check out Lexi's reading order and read in order you will not be disappointed.

Drake and Taylor each have a goal. They both don't realize their professional lives, personal life, and their goal to right a familial wrong have now bond them together. Their attraction may be a distraction.

While reading this book I enjoyed the return of so many characters from other books. I could help buy smile and chuckle when it came to the banter. I always cursed myself when I had to walked away from the book for even a minute.

If you want to read a book about sexy alphas and bad ass women this book, this series is for you. I promise you will get suspense, secrets, sexy scenes, questions answered, questions unanswered, and whole bunch of Masters' and Mercenaries drama. All I could do once I finished this book, is to start from page 1 and read it again. I am so ready for the next book.

Bonus: If you are a long time Lexi Blake reader, you will love the fact that characters, places, people from her other series pop up. And wait for it. Then there is the sneak peak of the next generation. I LOVE THIS SERIES.

Wow. I’ll admit that I haven’t read every book in this new series, but I didn’t feel lost at all. Instead, I wanted Kyle’s story immediately upon finishing this one. Taylor and Drake had one short blip of time together, and it should’ve been easily forgotten. But when your souls screams that the other person is The One, it’s hard to forget. And now they’re stuck working together on an op that could make or break everything around them. The secrets, the twists, the lies, the wondering which person is good or bad or simply dumb enough to love all kept me guessing for a while. So when it all comes out, get ready for some chaos and some sadness for those who didn’t mean to be pawns in this game.

Taylor and Drake managed to make me not so angry with them here. I mean, Taylor already had my loyalty, but Drake got a lot of advice from Big Tag, which helped him figure out the right way to play it. Honesty. Maybe a little manipulation. But communication above all else. And it’s a good thing he communicated because that saved what he and Taylor had a chance at building. So I couldn’t hate him for his methods, especially when he admitted that there’d only been Taylor since…well, Taylor. And who wouldn’t like knowing that they’d been the person to make someone want nothing more?

Whenever I read a book in this series I think I have some of the plot figured out at some point while I’m reading yet I’m always always surprised at the end. Which I absolutely love! Lexi never ever fails to deliver an intriguing, gripping, exciting, steamy & delicious read!

I was hoping we’d get Kyle’s book first but after reading Drake’s story I 100% understand why we needed his first. Wow does a lot come to light in this book. Plus we get to see quite a bit of my all time favourite character Ian! We actually get visits from quite a few past characters which I loved as well. I will say I wish we had gotten Lev’s story, I think it would have been crazy.

Now back to Drake & Taylor. I loved the way these two met. Although both of them needed a good hard shake at some points, I still understood why they’d both have trust issues. I loved that Taylor was a strong, independent badass, making her the perfect match for Drake. Their story was just as amazing as I was expecting & I can’t wait to hopefully see more of them in future books.

Also that surprise epilogue at the end!!!! Yesssss!! OMG am I so freaking excited for those books!

I'm not sure what other adjectives I can use for my love for all things Lexi Blake? Fantabulous, amazing, addicting? All true because she hooks her readers and her books are like crack!

Drake is no stranger to fans of this series, and I'm happy to say I loved his book more than I thought I would ! He just wasn't who I wanted to read next, but, Lexi wrote his character so perfectly it was hard for me not to end up liking him and cheering him on.

Drake meets Taylor when he gets snowed him after a mission goes south and she ends up nursing him back to health. They had instant attraction but they end up parting ways and both under the impression each was 'playing' the other.
A year and a half later they are forced together on a mission that leads them all over the globe in a race against time.

In typical M&M fashion there is suspense, hot tension between Drake & Taylor, a contract a twist or 2 and a Happy Ever After!

I know I'm not the only crazed fan dying for Kyle & MaeBe!!!

BRING.IT.ON!!

p.s. That dedication was beautiful and as someone who's been there, done that, I've been cheering Lexi on and keeping her in my prayers ! #yougotthis 💜

This one was ok for me. I liked Drake and I liked Taylor, they were meh together. Both of them had so many issues, it was surprising they managed to get anything worked out on a personal level. What kept this one moving for me was all the McKay/Taggart people and those from Bliss. I loved how all of them had very strong opinions of what was going on and what to do.

I also liked the last bit, into the future with Ian's girls and how upset he was when he learned what they were really doing. It will make for some fun books to come.

such an awesome story

Drake and Taylor from a rocky start to firm solid ground or the dungeon floor, these two somehow make it work… sometimes lol
It’s like riding a roller coaster when Drakes sister is involved and seriously that woman just won’t stay dead…
Oh and that snippet at the end of the future hahaha so so good.

I’ve been looking forward to seeing the story about Drake since we first met him in earlier series. We now know it’s actually drakes sister who’s been causing problems for our favorite family, the Taggart, and he teams up with Kyle to bring her down. This is a unique type of second chance romance in that it was barely started when because of a misunderstanding Drake left and Taylor is still angry. They both find out that much of the misunderstanding is that they were told different things by the agency. It was really fun to see Kyle‘s family come and confront him for his harebrained idea of pretending to be dead. It was also entertaining to check back in with the London group as well as have some of the Lost boys included on this mission. I really thought that drake and Taylor’s love story was well done and all the action in the book kept you on the seat of your pants. I can’t even describe how much I’m looking forward to the next book in the series which will be Kyle and MaeBe.

Poor Drake ….. with betrayal from close family, is it any doubt that he has trust issues?
And he grovelled so nicely. He gets bonus points for that in my opinion.

Verdict: Serious therapy needed

NTtL by L. Blake is a stand-alone in the M&M Series.
Drake works as field agent and is on his way to a safe house. There he meets Taylor, the handler of another agent.
A remote cabin, snowed in for a length of time, hormones, you get the picture. But that isn't the half of it.
NTtL is a full-length, complex, nailbitingly, fast paced read, packed with action and drama, let the reader meet fav characters from previous books, let them fall in love with new characters pretty quick.
An outstanding 5 star read.

M/F Second chance
I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.

Taylor is known only for how she handles her dad. Her dad is a well known operative. When she finds herself helping another operative, and falling for that same operative, Taylor knows this is dangerous territory. However, she's given up so much in her life - she wants just this one piece.

Drake is on a mission that goes awry. He knows that the material he has is sensitive and given to the wrong person, it will be catastrophic. When he finds himself at the safe house with Taylor, he can't help but be attracted to her. She's everything he would want in a partner.

With Taylor's heart crushed and Drake's trust broken, can these two figure out who's really behind the mishaps that are going on around them. It's a suspenseful story that will leave you turning the pages as fast as you can.

Lawwwd, I enjoy the absolute shizzle outta of these books.
Still.
After all this time.
For me, Drake & Taylor delivered an entertaining, engaging, sexy and suspenseful read. Yes, I guessed most of the “oh shit!” reveals, but I was ok with that because if Lexi Blake hadn’t taught me something about the spy game after all this time, I haven’t been paying attention 😂😂😂.
Add in a the trademark humour and sarcasm I crave and the overarching theme of “the family you make”, and I’m as hooked on these people, characters and stories as much today as I was way back when I first read book 1, The Dom Who Loved Me.

PLUS: the easter egg type teasing we are getting in the bonus epilogues for the next generation are giving me palpitations…in the very best way!

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads, so here is my review.
This is book 4 in the Masters & Mercenaries: Reloaded series and is Drake and Taylor's story. No Time to Lie is a fast-paced roller coaster ride that will have you on the edge from the very first page.
Drake is on a mission that goes wrong and he is injured and needs to get to the safe house. Although he makes it to the safe house, he crashes into a tree and passes out. Taylor hears the crash and rescues him from the car, gets him inside the house, and patches him up. When he wakes up he accuses her of trying to steal the data he has but she convinces him they are on the same side.
The chemistry between Drake and Taylor is off the charts and neither can forget the other when they are separated. A year and a half later and Drake and Taylor are back together to work on the same mission.
There is so much going on in this story and the suspense will have you trying to figure out what will happen next. And there are characters from the other books to help n this mission which makes this story even better. And the epilogue into the future shows what we can look forward to with Ian Taggert's children. Oh and book 5 in this series is Kyle's book and I cannot wait for that one.

Buckle and settle in because you will not want to turn away once you start this book! We start with a connection, then problems, then sorting through the feelings on many levels. Once we have that solidly in place, things speed up and the action takes off! You won’t need anything to stimulate your heart rate, as your heart will be pounding out of your chest as you follow the twists, turns, and pirouettes that happen. Drake and Taylor bring it all together and the stage is set for Kyle and MaeBe to finally figure things out <3

p.s. and we get another quick glimpse into the future and it is going to be grand!!!

This may be my overall favorite quintet/miniseries from the universe as a whole. Every entry has been really solid for me. Lexi Blake knows the job here, and I'm not mad about it.

Reread 2/19/23: I stand by my original review - this quintet has been very strong all-around. Taylor was a great heroine and Drake respecting that and realizing he had to let her shine was excellent, and I like the way this one brought back in some of my old faves (missed you, Solo!!!). I'm about to pick up Kyle and MaeBe's book and can't wait to see how it all concludes.

This is book four in the Masters & Mercenaries: Reloaded series and is Drake and Taylor's story. NO TIME TO LIE is a fast-paced rollercoaster ride that will have you on the edge from the very first page.

Drake is on a mission that goes wrong, and he is injured and needs to get to the safe house. Although he makes it to the safe house, he crashes into a tree and passes out. Taylor hears the crash and rescues him from the car, gets him inside the house, and patches him up. When he wakes up, he accuses her of trying to steal the data he has but she convinces him they are on the same side.

The chemistry between Drake and Taylor is off the charts and neither can forget the other when they are separated. A year and a half later and Drake and Taylor are back together to work on the same mission.

There is so much going on in this story and the suspense will have you trying to figure out what will happen next. And there are characters from the other books to help in this mission that makes this story even better. M/F Second-Chance Romance

Taylor is known only for how she handles her dad. Her dad is a well-known operative. When she finds herself helping another operative, and falling for that same operative, Taylor knows this is dangerous territory. However, she's given up so much in her life – she wants just this one piece.

This is the fourth book in the Masters & Mercenaries: Reloaded series, and is another excellent story bringing together protagonists from earlier books, and tying up some loose ends for favourite characters. I highly recommend that you read the wonderful Masters & Mercenaries series from the beginning to completely understand the side jokes, the importance of each person's past, their family, and the loyalty of the group. It is both entertaining, amusing, and complicated – but always genuine.

Both Drake and Taylor have had the strangest of childhoods and career paths. I loved finding out the details and the similarities, yet differences which make them so perfect for each other. It was so enticing to see them in the snowbound cabin starting up their romance, that I was genuinely annoyed at the twist in the tale – but knowing Lexi Blake would find a way to give them their second chance, I carried on in hope and anticipation.

A great mix of old friends, embarrassing stories, and fun ensured that I read this late into the night and loved every minute of it. Already excited to see whether the hapless Kyle can finally get things straightened out with MaeBe.

When you get almost 30 books into a series and it is a series that you love, there is never even a question of whether or not you are going hit the "Buy" button. The sad thing was that I couldn't also buy the Audible version because it is not out until next week. Normally, I might wait, but this is one of my favorite series so ....nope...

The thing that I love about this series is that you already have established characters that you know and love and it always just feels like coming home.

I will admit that the beginning of this book felt a little off. I'm not sure what it was, but the flow felt different and not the norm. If anything, the dialog was...stilted. I think that's what it felt like. I couldn't really FEEL the feelings or really ANYTHING that felt real between the two MC's - Taylor and Drake. I really just felt forced and THAT is something that just never happens with this author.

We did read at the beginning of the book that Ms. Blake is going through some very difficult struggles and was at the beginning of her fight when she was writing this book. That might have been a factor, or maybe not so I'm not even going to worry about that. She has built up more than enough goodwill with me to just KNOW that things were going to be great. Seriously, I LOVE this author :)

As the book progresses, things seem to get into their regular rhythm and before you know it you are hooked once again. In this book, we get to see SO many of our favorite characters that it made me smile. We got to see a lot of the gang from McKay-Taggart and the M&M series, AND we also got to see several of the Lost Boys (and their significant others...mostly now spouses...AND CHILDREN!)....not to mention there were a couple of mentions of Bliss thrown in just to make things even better. *chef's kiss* Honestly, I smiled so many times when another person was on page.

So, about this book. For some reason I thought we were going to be dealing with Kyle and MaeBe and of course, the evil Julia. That would be my fault because for some reason, I just assumed that but this book focuses on Drake (or Mr. Black, or Mr. Gray.....or the many other colors as we have gotten to know him as in the past). We are then introduced to a new character -Taylor- and I have to admit that I wasn't really sure that I liked her in the beginning. Remember I mentioned the odd beginning? Well, that beginning is more like a Prequel or maybe a Prelude and happens 18 months in the past. Once we got to the "now", things began to settle down.

Even though the focus was not on Kyle and the Julia thing, they actually are a huge part of the story. We are getting to the climax of this whole story arc, which actually started several books ago. Julia is still up to her old tricks and the Agency is teeming up with McKay-Taggert to put together an Op to try to discover what The Consortium is up to and to take Julia out. I have to say...Julia is truly bats**t crazy. SERIOUSLY!

As I mentioned, once the action starts up, it doesn't stop and I ended up enjoying the heck out of this book. The odd thing was that even though the setting takes place in two different "clubs" there is really not too much "play time" and most of the book is spent with the drama playing out as things begin to unfold.

So, another winner! Now, I think it is fair to say that the NEXT book is going to be the Kyle/MaeBe book and I. Cannot. Wait!

Lexi Blake...my prayers are with you. Thank you for everything you have given to your fans so far and I look forward to many, many more books in the future. I honestly think I have read every book you have written - or if not all of them, darn near close and the only reason I haven't would be because I haven't seen it :)

Overall Grade: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Lexi Blake’s No Time to Lie is everything you adore about her Masters and Mercenaries world. If you’ve been reading the Reloaded series, then you are familiar with Drake Radcliffe, that smarmy CIA agent who both assists and complicates McKay-Taggart operations. There is a backstory involving his story that gains more steam in this newest offering. And it makes for a heck of a romantic suspense ride.

At her core, Lexi Blake writes some exciting romantic suspense. There are twists and turns that take her readers down different avenues of action. This is commonplace in Blake’s series. It is also true for No Time to Lie. There is so much that happens in this story. The relationship between Drake and Taylor is told in the past and the present. As such, we endure their second chance at love. As is the case with most Blake romances, Taylor and Drake encounter instant attraction and love. However, their lives become complicated by their roles, Drake as a CIA agent and Taylor as support for her operative father. In the beginning, they find themselves stuck in a CIA hiding spot, where they fall quickly for each other. When the outside world threatens them, they are separated, and each feels betrayed by the other. Blake moves us forward 18 months, and these two reencounter each other on a special operation to take down an evil organization, one in which Drake’s enemy sister takes part. No Time to Lie is quick-paced, and you find yourself pulled into Drake and Taylor’s initial fall and eventual reconciliation. Still, Blake doesn’t take it easy on them, elongating their reconciliation.

Blake’s characterization of Drake and Taylor is typical. Drake is complicated: he comes from privilege, has “daddy” issues, and both loves and detests his sister. He’s not entirely looking for a “Taylor” in his life. Taylor is also complicated: insightful, strong, and committed to her father. When their lives explode, Taylor reacts by becoming stronger and more capable. Quite frankly, when they reunite, Drake struggles with her. This makes for some of the funniest portions of the story, and it causes readers to gain a greater appreciation for her.

Thankfully, what I love most about this series and Lexi Blake’s world of espionage is the community she has created. Big Tag is here, along with past characters we have previously fallen in love with. These characters are the wizened guides for the current character stories of the Reloaded series. Thanks to Big Tag, Drake “sees” Taylor better, and their reunion grows into more, exactly where Blake wants her readers to fall in love with her story.

I would say the downfall of these stories is the, oftentimes, repetitive nature of them. Thankfully, I’m a fan of this extended universe, so it’s exciting to read former characters in recent stories. At the end of this book, there is a massive tease for Blake’s next series, and I can’t wait to see where McKay-Taggart et al. is headed in the future. If you’re a fan of romantic suspense, some BDSM, and universes of characters, you should jump into Lexi Blake’s Masters & Mercenaries worlds.

The big, loud, and fantastic McKay-Taggart family is back and I love every single time they are all together on the page. This time CIA operative Drake Radcliffe is front and center, but since he's worked with McKay-Taggart and this particular op is tied heavily to one of their own, of course they are right there lending a hand and lending all kinds of love and life advice to Drake and his beautiful love interest, Taylor Cline.

Drake is looking to finally bring in Julia Ennis, dead or alive. She's done a lot of damage to several ops at McKay-Taggart since her resurrection from the dead. That's right, Julia was thought to be dead, but it turns out she is very much alive, soooooo many ties begin to come together, or perhaps unravel, either way you look at it, it's a dream come true for a FANatic like myself.

While the team is working on this huge op, Drake is also working on his second opportunity with the woman of his dreams, Taylor Cline. She is the one who got away, or perhaps the one that he fudged up with when he let his job get in the way. Now he finally has a chance to get things right and even though they are chasing down the same bad guy or girl in this case, he's not letting opportunity pass him by and he's set on winning a place back in her heart.

Drake is one big, sappy puppy when it comes to Taylor most of the time, but he's also the perfect Dom when the time comes for it. Basically he's pretty perfect and I love every inch of his character. Taylor is a great match for him on every level and I look forward to seeing how their relationship molds and shapes in future books.

Speaking of the future, or maybe more like the past...hmmmm....I loved the past characters that popped up in this book and the body positivity that always shines through, no matter what age or length of marriage, it's probably one of the biggest things that draws me back to Lexi's books over and over again. Her characters are not only bada$&, but they are empowering. Ian's speeches, usually about what his employee is doing wrong always make me laugh, but he also tends to be right, just not in a subtle way - at all. Another thing that draws me back to Lexi's books is Ian's humor, which I could read over and over, but he might get an even bigger head if we let him have his way too much. Lastly, there is nothing more endearing than having that special place for people who feel like a misfit or outcast and Ian Taggart, or should I say, Lexi has built a world where everyone fits in and is accepted. Her books have a way of doing just that and no matter who you are or where you've come from there is a place within the big, crazy family of McKay-Taggart.
