The Lost & the Wicked

Rate this book
The fae are not human. They do not abide by human morality.
Do not hold them to this, because they will disappoint you at the same time that they entice you.

I had no choice but to make a reckless and possibly stupid decision when my brother fell ill. When all other options
failed, I turned to the faeries for help. But little did I know, I had summoned the wrong ones.

The Princes of the Wild Hunt answered my call and demanded a blood oath in exchange for their aid. I was desperate enough to agree. In doing so, I was thrown into a seductive and dangerous world where I had no control. The dark allure of Faerie drew me in, and I found myself craving more.

The faeries of the Wild Hunt were masters of manipulation, using my desires and halfing blood against me. Every day,
their hold on me grew stronger, calling out to the part of me that felt at home with them. Until I decided to take matters into my own hands and turn the tables on the faeries.

I was determined to outsmart them at their own game and make them crave me more than I craved them. I'd make
them feel for me. Make them care about me.

But outsmarting the faeries was harder than I ever imagined. The princes of the Wild Hunt had a secret. A secret I was determined to coax out of them. A secret that could destroy me.

Its not a book I like.

The FL is enslaved and made to do anything the princes wish and at least they don't ask for anything to bad. No sexual activities or anything like that, mostly manual labor. (cleaning out stalls and massaging their sore muscles) but if she doesn't want to do it she is made to by their magic. She degraded in front of others. BUT she is offered to have the collar removed several times and says no. Like a stupid b**ch she thinks he isn't powerfully enough to remove it.
It all seems like an excuse to do " depraved " stuff because she has no choice. She gets jealous and angry when she sees other females touch them but does nothing about it.

In short she's a annoying twit with no balls.
Book ends in a stupid place that just makes me annoyed. It switches to her friend POV who is travelling and trying to find her. This is such a nothing book that I'm actually annoyed that authors do this. NOT READING THE NEXT ONE!

I have such an obsession with faeries. I just can't seem to stop reading about them.

Has it ever happened to you that you're reading a book that you thought was a standalone only to realize at the end that it is, in fact, a series? Well, that's what happened to me. I'm honestly so glad because I was loving it but i was founding it awfully short.

I can't wait for the next book.

Gostei?

Penn has created an immensely detailed world which will draw you in and hold you captive, each word is like a brush stroke creating a masterpiece that's as haunting as it is beautiful. The characters will ensnare you with their beauty, captivate you with their magic and feed your nightmares with their wicked ways.

Kyre is a bleeding heart who will go to any lengths to help heal her brother even if that cost is her freedom and her life. Kyre shows incredible strength when she makes a deal with the wild hunt that will not only change her life but also alter her understanding if her world as she knows it. Not all monsters hide in the dark but when lines start to blurr the question of who are the real monsters and who can she trust become paramount to her survival.

The princes of The Wild Hunt the beautiful nightmares that you don't know if you should run from or run to. Cadoc and Haelo brothers both as devious and deceptive as the other but to look at they are the light to the others dark. If you're not careful they will eat you whole whilst you smile sweetly at them. Riven is a beautiful monster all of his own, he's the watcher, the one you don't see coming. His beauty will dazzle you and entice you to your end.

These three powerful, banished princes know more then they will ever say to Kyre, they believe fate has played a great part but to who's benefit that remains to be seen. The undeniable chemistry between the tension is mounting between them and it makes this slow burn read addictive.

Vazden is not a banished member of the Hunt, he allowed them into his woods. His connection with Kyre is palpable, and I can't wait to see where it goes.

This book is slow burn at its best, the world building is so vivid you are transported right there. I am desperately clinging on to my sanity for more of Kyre and her Princes.

I realise I'm in the minority, lots of reviewers love this book. Unfortunately it wasn't for me.

Firstly, another reviewer commented "I'm not a fan of bratty FMC’s", I couldn't agree more. Kyre gives her life in exchange for a favour, then spends the rest of the book acting out about it, as if she didn't make the deal. I didn't like her, I had no sympathy for her, I couldn't relate to her.

Secondly the Princes; there is nothing remotely likeable about them, they indulge in petty acts of cruelty against Kyre, there is no underlying pull to any of them, if you like your anti-hero's on the brooding alpha side, you will be disappointed!

Not much happens in this book. Most of it can be gleaned from the synopsis. Kyre tries to save her brother by giving her life to the Wild Hunt. The three Princes of the hunt take her to their world, make a half hearted effort at turning her into their slave, and make the occasional sexual advance which isn't followed up in any way by either side. Kyre finds out that the Princes have discovered her valuable heritage, and that they intend to exchange her for their freedom. That's about it!

At the end of this first book, Kyre suddenly decides that a night of spice with the Princes isn't the worst idea, but there is no build up to it, no chemistry, no sexual tension, I was literally cringing! She is then interrupted before it gets further than a kiss, and the book ends.

The synopsis includes the statement "This is a RH high fantasy novel not suitable for those under the age of 18, and includes graphic depictions of sex, violence, brutality, harsh language and wicked, evil faeries." Except for the Princes wrapping a collar around Kyre’s neck and using it as discipline, there are no graphic depictions of anything except the faerie world. The book at about 95% has some kissing.

I have so many feelings… I don’t even know where to begin! I loved this book! Penn has a way with words because I simply cannot get enough of her writing. The way she describes everything makes you feel like you just jumped into the book. I just need more!!

Kyre has a heart of gold but she knows how to stick up for herself. She will do anything for the people she loves, including making a deal with the guys she should stay away from. She is such a beautiful character and I truly am rooting for her on the sidelines.

The Wild Hunt… where do I begin? These men are rough, cruel, and alpha-like. They fight, they dominate, and they control. I want to smack them all but I also want to make a deal with them because they are fine. You know who else is fine… Vazden. This man can do no wrong. The protectiveness and the BDE oozing out of him… WHEW. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for them.

I am dying after that last chapter. I thought something was finally going to happen and then boom! I need the next one! I can’t say enough how much I loved this book and I truly recommend reading it!

Faeiry sexy

A lost halfling is searching for a cure that only her ancestors can give. An exiled princess who will sacrifice everything to save the true king in her human world. The faeiry part of her is drawn to the world she has never been to. But everything changes with a bargain.

Three princes will grant her gift at a price. Her life in 1 year. It will be theirs. She has no idea what she is getting into when they come from the Void Wood to bring her back. As passion ignites and secrets unfold this princess will learn what she truly is and how much her tormentors mean to her.

I finished this with a gasp. It's amazing in it's emotional and sexy prose.

Not for me…

I don’t mind dark romances, but the type of darkness depends. This is not for me. First off, not a fan of bratty FMCs. Second, not a fan slave/master tropes. DNF.

This has the most amazing FMC Kyre . There are no limits on what family means To this Loving, Loyal, and Incredibly gutsy princess who happens to be a Halfling and when her father the High King dies, the Kings wife throws her to the slums. Truly a cold hearted bi-otch! This is a story about a girl willing to go to any lengths to save her brother Drystan. He Coincidentally fell deathly ill after his father died, just as he would have then become the rightful King. She makes a deal with fairies, only because she knows they would be able to rescue her brother. This is book 1 of an Amazing fantasy story, with all the wildly different worlds that the humans live in and the fairie world really are. This magical world where there was many types of fairies has ones you could only dream about and others that are monsters that would give you nightmares forever! Now Kyre has to learn all that she can about this amazingly beautiful and Terrifying new world that she now has to call home ! But can it ever be home? This Is just the very beginning of this Enticing journey that we're gonna be going along And yes there are some steamy parts in fairy, but we dont want to get ahead of ourselves, because This new world that we're beginning to imagine and several male characters we meet are Extremely Gorgeous as they are Deadly, but we have no idea Who she can trust And who really is looking out for Kyre's best interest and who is just using her To get what they want?! Let the games begin because we are just getting started and I'm sooo ready to dive into book 2!!! Bring on the Spice!!

I felt bad giving this book 3 stars but I just couldn’t give it a 4. The story was a classic tale of familial sacrifice with promises of a reverse harem. Where it fell short for me was in its ability to generate excitement with the plot and in the connection between the characters. The princes seem to be reserved and uninterested and then bam kissing. Then one second later she’s started up with someone else and no further development or continuation with the previous one. I understand this was a short book at just over 200 pages but I would have loved to have seen greater depth and growth. Maybe that’s next in book 2.

I want to finish with some things I really did like.
1. I love how the author took the time to world build and gently explain what / who things were as she went. This was a very natural explanation that didn’t hinder the storytelling.
2. I love a good map. It’s old school but it takes me back to the days of Tolkien and David Eddings.
3. I loved the Drac. He is a character I could absolutely get behind.
4. I love anything with the Fae and Slaugh. Never enough mentions of them.
5. The revel scene. The author did an amazing job of bringing you into this world where humans and human sense of morality did not exist. It was primal. It was wild. The descriptions were perfect. Great scene.

Now for book 2!

The Lost and the Wicked is book one in this incredible new series by Penn Cassidy. I am so in love with this woman’s words I swear she knows how to write a tale as twisted and captivating as they come. Storylines with woven webs so perfectly you don’t see what’s happening until it hits you I know it’s going to be delicious. Our FMC Kyre who is utterly loyal to those she loves, to a point she’s willing to make a deal to save her brothers life with cruel fae who are known for deception and brutality. The Princes of wild hunt want to control her, dominate her; their knowing smiles and mounting chemistry is something that’ll draw you in to this slow burn masterpiece. Then you’ll fall in love with the connection and protectiveness of Vazden. Who is is you ask? Read the book! You need it in your life.

I have limited experience with high fantasy. Thank goodness maps and glossaries are included! However, Penn Cassidy is a favourite author of mine so I jumped at the chance to read this novel. Fantastic read! I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this book and am anxiously awaiting the next book in the series. The world-building and character development are superb and leave you longing for more.

Kyre is a confident, brave halfling willing to go to extraordinary lengths to save her brother’s life and dethrone the queen. Even if that means exchanging her life for his. Not everything is as it seems when the princes of the Wild Hunt collect their debt and Kyre is swept away to live a life of servitude. Secrets unfold, bargains are struck and new alliances are forged in this spellbinding tale of intrigue, adventure and romance.

I highly recommend you give this captivating book a read.

I really enjoyed this one! I thought that this one was going to be a 5 star read and I think that this is the first time that I have ever said this but I think I would have enjoyed this book more if it wasn't a why choose. I love why choose books they are one of my favorites to read but with this one I just felt that Vazden was the only one that cared about her and he was always making sure that she was safe in his presence and that's why he is my favorite and I felt like he was her favorite too. This is the first in a series and I didn't know that going into this one so maybe my feelings will change about the other guys in the next books and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next in this series.

Not a whole lot happened in this book but the world building was amazing and I love the ward.

I couldn’t connect with the FMC and majority of the guys, except for one, pretty much sucked and treated her like a slave. Also, there was no romantic development as they went from hating each other to wanting to fuck.

I think I’m still interested in reading the next book to see if it improves!

I loved this take on Fae, there is a lot out there already but I felt like this book added something.

While I’m intrigued by all the guys, there’s definitely one that jumps out (so I’m claiming him). I can’t wait to see more of these characters and probably fall in love with them.

“Our hunts are tedious. Our days and nights are long, bloody affairs, so you’re going to serve us, whether it be on your hands and knees or on your back. You’re going to do whatever it is we ask of you, and if you fail to abide by the rules, I’m afraid you won’t enjoy the consequences of that unfortunate choice. Don’t worry, though, you’re going to enjoy every delicious moment of it.”

While this book was a bit short for my liking, I am happy to know there will be more books soon. This is the second book I have read from Penn and I am not disappointed! Kyre and her harem of men are *chefs kiss*. At around 185 pages this is a very fast-paced book. The action begins pretty much in the first few chapters. Kyre has to bargain with legendary fae princes of the Wild Hunt to save her brother. The princes set a bargain that after 1 year whether the medicine they give her works or not they will be coming to collect on the debt owed.

Some things I truly loved about this book. You get a full-blown guide to all the creatures within the book. There were creatures I had never even heard of before, and I consider myself pretty knowledgable lol maybe I have been mistaken! Overall, loved this book with all its excitement and angst. If you love domineering fae princes, dragon shifters, otherworldly creatures, and a strong FMC this is the book for you!

P.S.
Ends on quite the cliff hanger so if you are like me and hate that lol just wait for the series to finish or don’t take my advice and just impatiently wait like I am 🤣

DNF (did not finish). What made the book unfinishable in your opinion?
I kept reading this book hoping it would get better. Spoiler, it didn’t. The love interests were terrible abusive a-holes. (If you’re not into that avoid this book.) I don’t mind a-hole love interests, but what bothered me is the author kept dipping her toes into different genres (dark and bdsm) without going all the way. Which is too bad because the world building had some serious potential to be a good fantasy novel. I also didn't care for the heroine. Her character didn't make sense to me. Supposedly she spent time in the slums but is also naive enough not to know what "I give you my life," truly means in a fae bargain? No one is that stupid. The author put some dark play (bruising, choking, slave/master, humiliation), but it didn’t fit with the way the main character acted. I genuinely though the fae princes were abusing her and not in the fun way. But when Vazden (dragon shifter) offers to save her or at least take off the collar, she brushes him off. I am like WTF? Overall, I can’t suggest this book to anyone and I DNF at the 96%. Why? Because she was about to get it one with those abusive fae prince a-holes and I did not want to read that S%#^.

Rounded up from 2.5

⬇️ There are mild spoilers below ⬇️

This book was honestly.. a whole lot of nothing. After the first few chapters, nothing really happens. It’s just the fmc brooding and angsting about the decision she willingly made, the 3 princes making vague sexual advances that are never followed up on (seriously, if you’re here for the spice, there is none, regardless of the content warnings on the synopsis). Near the end there’s a bit of an info dump to lead into the next book, we’re finally promised a bit of action with the festival, only to have it cut short and again have nothing happen.

None of the characters are particularly likeable in my opinion and the book seemed to badly need an editor, by the end I was rolling my eyes every time the author described something as ‘gossamer’.

The series could have potential but I don’t think I’ll be following up to find out.

get lost…

Wow. Just wow.

Kyre is a gosh dang delight, along with the 3(4?) Fellas from the Wild Hunt.

Trying to save her brother from their evil “mother”, Kyre makes a deal with the wild hunt (on accident, i mean she was just looking for one fae to help her, not 3) and they give her a year to heal her brother before they come collect…her.

But wait, there’s more! Kyre is more than meets the eye and finds herself on the cusp of even more interesting peril!

Follow Kyre’s wild ride, full of twists, turns, and spice 💦

I’d call this a medium-high burn with boatloads of angst, a bit less than handful of hot/haughty fae, and plenty of mystery.

Absolutely cannot wait for the next book!

Well, Penn has shown a whole new side of herself and I am HERE FOR IT. As a girl who loves fantasy, and Penn's writing style, this was a match made in the Void Wood. There's Halflings, Dragons, Sexy Fae Creatures.... My only complaint is I wish there had been a slightly slower progression from her beginning her bargain to the end of the book. I loved the world-building, the ending, the reveals... I literally just can't wait for book 2!!

One major kudos to Penn, she writes (and her characters feel/read) like real people. It's hard to make a halfling and fairies feel real, but she manages. Definitely recommended.

Intriguing!

This is a very intriguing book and I honestly can't wait to see what happens next. The main female character can be a little brash at times, but it is going to be quite interesting to watch her navigate her new circumstances. There are so many questions I have about her friend and her brother! Also, at the end, there is someone she will be meeting and I can't wait to see how that plays out. There are many interesting characters in this story and so many possibilities....... I would definitely recommend.

Not your usual take on Fairies. I do like when authors do this. Krye is a banished princess who calls on Fairies for help to save her dying brother. Unexpectedly she got the Wild Hunt. Knowingly she made a deal to become theirs in exchange for their help to save her brother. The storyline is good, but it took a while to get going for me. This book was slow burn as stated in the authors description. It definitely fit the circumstances of Kyre's situation. I like when there is build up between characters. Looking forward to the next book.

Very intriguing

A very promising and intriguing beginning. We see the usual suspects here and some creatures I've never encountered before. I like that I'm hating the princes and I hope our fmc doesn't just forget everything that's happened to her. I'm not a fan of the ending, it felt much too abrupt and the odd chapter at the end was off-putting to me, but I really enjoyed the book and the characters and the world that's being built around us and am eager for book two.
