Another wonderful living book, I find at our local bookfair this week. Set in classical Greece, it’s a story about a friendship that brings down a sad, cruel and tyrant King Dionysius, who places a man called Pythias into jail. But his friend is saved by Damon, all because he ran and ran, swan a little, but mainly ran.
Hence, Run Damon, run!
Pictures were great, of a moment in time, we only hear about it. A book for kids, wanting to explore this period of time. But, one without the classical Greek Gods, meddling into humans’ lives! Instead, a brave act of courage and friendship.

This folk tale had my adult mind searching for the motivation of Dionysius, the king. Maybe this was because of the simplification of plot that occurs with folk tales, or maybe the further simplification that occurs to fit it into a picture book...
Junko's illustrations, as always are impressive.
