I loved the ending..

I hate to sound cliche, but in juxtaposition to another similar famous story we all know, Hana to Akuma is a better love story than Twilight.

I’ve finished Hana to Akuma today, and all I can say is that it was perfect. The character build up, the development of the story line. Everything. Even the absolutely heartbreaking ending, which we all knew was inevitable.

The way it had ended was nothing short of absolute perfection. The sorrow brought about by Hana’s death together with the joys of the gifts she left behind, their children, were heartbreakingly beautiful. It was a perfect tragedy, since the whole story basically revolved around Vivi learning to love something fragile and beautiful, much like a flower.

Their promise of forever, tied the whole thing together. Vivi loved her so much that even though he knew they could only spend a limited amount of time together, he still chose to surrender his heart completely. She aged, and he didn’t, but he still loved her all the same. The way he smiled sadly as she was on her deathbed, and as he visited her gravestone, meant that no matter how brief their time was, he had cherished every minute of it. Even though she was gone, he kept his promise. He loved her, and with her in his heart, they were together.

And fuck this, I am crying again. This series invokes so many emotions that I cannot take reign of them all.

The story is a typical YA Paranormal plot: a handsome demon attached to a human girl. Bibi, who is a 200-year-old demon, finds Hana when she is a baby, and raises her. The plot develops when she is 14 years old, but in reality, looks more like a 9-year-old girl. She loves Bibi very much, but he, as a demon, avoids to touch her because demons destroy flowers... and Hana means flower.

I cannot like Hana. Or she is smiling like an idiot, or she keeps crying like a baby. The whole issue 'I can't touch you/I want to touch you' gets boring after a while.

I liked Tony the servant, Felton the annoying friend, and even the 'enemy', Klaus. These 3 characters were more interesting and funny than Bibi and Hana.

The art-style is not very good. The shape of the head is weird, and the body, not very proportionate. In Hana, the eyes are too big. The relationship between Bibi and Hana is too corny for my taste.

It's been a really long time since I read this but I thought that this was a very sweet manga at first. Watching a demon just pick up a baby and start raising it, realizing he has an attachment for a human (this may be a huge difference between the idea of demons between two cultures but manga demons always seem more humane) was one thing but as she got older and he realized and his feeling grew deeper... I don't know. I mean it's a bit off to me that someone who assumes a father role with someone later on develops a possible romantic role but that may not affect other readers.

Ah, I hate reading slumps! I read 4 chapters of this manga and while I'm pretty certain that I would've loved it under other circumstances, it didn't intrigue me in the slightest and to be frank, the age difference threw me even more off of reading it. What on earth does a 200-year-old see in a 14-year-old girl he has raised himself? I remain unimpressed and I'm sorry about that because a good friend of mine even recommended the manga to me.

This isn't the best of shoujo manga. But it's far from the worst. I really detest mangas that start off with boy-meets-girl and jump to they-fall-in-love after a chapter. Hana to Akuma was different. The relationship between Hana and Bibi was explored (maybe not as fully as I would've liked it, but still) and you could feel the depths of their love for each other.

The love triangles weren't really love triangles, just the way I like them, but enough to provoke jealousy. And the side characters were just amazing and completely loveable. The art work is alright, but Bibi is still gorgeous enough for me to swoon over. The clothes, though, were adorable, and very Victoria era-ish.

The best part of the series, though, was the ending. Please don't read if you haven't read the manga yet, because it'll ruin the experience for you!

¡Ella! Nop, sorry.

This book, this series was fantastic. It was so sweet, you could make a cake with it. I loved it, loved it! It did have one of my biggest pet peeves though, the inability to do math where the passage of time meets with age correctly. How does a baby age 14 years in just ten? Riddle me this Batman! Geez! No 4yr old can be bundled and that small at the beginning. Nice art, cute, cute story though; I really could not have asked for more (outside of the age/time deal that is). Well, I did. I wished for a more reliable internet server so I could have gobbled this up faster. *Spoiler alert* I bawled at the end. I was so upset I almost immediately called my boyfriend and tolf him I loved him. It's nice that even after reading hundreds of manga, I can still find ones that move me so much.

Thanks Goodreads Recommends, good pick. Really good pick.

The Duke of Demons name Vivi got bored of his home and went to Earth. That's where he met 4 year old Hana, a baby girl left for abortion. That's when Vivi took care of her. As the years passed and Hana was at the age of 14 and turning 15. Hana and Vivi have gotten closer. At first, Vivi didn't want to touch Hana because she might wilt as a flower and that scared him.

Vivi gets jealous quite easily, even when Hana starts hanging around or playing with other guys in the mansion like Toni or Felton. Hana gets jealous too when she sees Ayame-san and Vivi together, it bothers her too much.

For one thing that I already knew would be that Vivi has his heart for Hana. And without her life would be meaningless. Hana is everything to Vivi, it's quite adorable how those two get along quite fast.

I wanted to like this. It just was too perverted for me. I read it through to the finish to review it. Honestly I want the flashbacks of Bibi to Hana to make me believe in a developing chemistry between them but instead they met me feel perverted to think of him being once her parent (literally more like a father) to developing feelings for her. At least make us like Bibi but he is instead a cold cynic and ill appreciated as well as Hana being the stereotypical ideal of the perfect lolita girl. Yes she is 14 and wants her throat sucked. No inferences there. I guess I just like the cute high school shojo now because it is about healthy relationships and while I understand the gothic and sexual undertones to this kind of shojo, I don't like that girls read this. I loathe it. 2 stars. Sorry not sorry.

This is a must read!! It's one of my absolute FAVE-MANGAS-OF-ALL-TIMEZ!!!

It has everything from a laidback, yet charming demon to love triangles, to complications, a absolutely perfect plot, and involvement from Lucifer too!
With great female characters! The story is so good and well organized and the ending was perfect. I love it a lot. I laugh, cried and sad while I read it but I the end I was satisfy and keep reading it over and over again.

I absolutely adored this manga. Most people might think its the kind where the 14-yr old girl stumbles upon the demon and ends up in a strange and awkward relationship. This has a nice twist to it in which the demon has been raising the child so it has a nice, easy, light atmosphere to the plot. I read the whole series already and one thing you need to know above anything else is that you should have tissues on hand. This story will make you cry and not just during the ending but the whole series itself. I strongly recommend it to anyone who loves a good romance story without all the incidents in which you just want to punch the couple.

No. Just no.

I can accept the fact that a 200 year old guy falls in love with a 14 year old girl. I can look the other way. It’s basically twilight but with demons. I can accept that.

BUT!

I do not accept the fact that said demon raised this girl since she was a baby, and acted as her father figure, until she was old enough for them both to realise they have the hots for each other. No, no, no, no, no. Thats just creepy and pseudo-incestual.

Don’t be Usagi Drop.

No one likes Usagi Drop.

*This review is for the series as a whole with 4 out of 5 stars*

This manga, Hana to Akuma was recommended by a friend but I forgot the title until I came across it on goodreads. I guess my hanging around on goodreads paid off eh? Hehe.

Before we talk about this story, let me tell you what the title means. Hana means flower, to is a Japanese particle that could be used in a lot of ways but for this, it’s used as and, while Akuma means demon or devil. Hmmm, so tell me, was that able to get your attention?

I love supernatural stories especially in my books, manga, anime or movies and this one didn’t disappoint at all. My friend told me a summary about this story (when she recommended it to me) so it felt like I already know it without having to read it yet. My mood is really getting hard to please lately (which is really annoying) so I was quite surprised that this manga took my full attention as early as its first chapter. I guess it was partly because I love the art and the protagonist looks so hot (insert deafening squeal here). Actually, he has this weird resemblance to Lelouch Lamperouge. Well, because of that, I can’t help but think that all the demon characters in the manga/anime that I’ve watched so far were required to be incredibly hot. Remember the last demon butler I was lusting over early this year? Hehe.

The plot of this story was quite interesting making it not your typical shojo manga. As you can read on the sypnosis above, Vivi is a demon duke who came to the human world to kill time found an abandoned baby and, on a whim, raised her. She cried so hard but once she saw Vivi’s face, she smiled sweetly like a flower and that’s how she got her name.

This story started really light at first introducing its main characters and how the two of them met. But once I reached volume 4, it’s started to get really more interesting making it hard to put down. Evidence? I finished all 10 volumes for just 2 nights. I really stayed late last night not being concerned that the next day would be another work day because dang! It was so good. Well, compared to your usual shonen manga/anime, Hana to Akuma is quite simple but there’s just something about it that will pull you closer. Ofcourse it’s not perfect with all its flaws and clichés but those didn’t stop me from enjoying this manga. I also love how it made me emotional especially on the last volume. It was so emotional that I actually found myself crying to sleep last night, or should I say this early morning, haha.

The main leads we’re so cute together that I keep on grinning like an idiot everytime they’re having sweet scenes. I love Vivi! Well, he’s actually the first thing I noticed when I started this manga and my admiration for him stayed all throughout the story. He has a hot and cold personality but you can really see how he cares so much for Hana. And my! He’s really so good looking which angle you look at him. And heck! You should see him wearing glasses! Ahem, I am starting to sound like a crazy stalker, haha. So, let’s talk about Hana now eh? Just like Vivi, I like how the author drew her character. She’s really so kawaii! And my! You should see her smile! It’s so innocent and so contagious and so perfectly drawn. Considering that she grew up with demons, she sure remained pure and so innocent. There’s definitely no evil in her, which I’m sure one of the reason why the great demon king and other demons adores her, *wink.

Aside from the main leads, I also like the other characters as well. It’s great that they all got the chance to share their own story making you feel really close to them. I didn’t find any unnecessary scenes here and every character got their own role to play and done them well. There’s no hair-pulling-annoying characters but I have this 1 particular character that I want to burn alive, haha, kidding. He’s quite annoying but I think his role made the story more interesting.

Also, I super love the art especially on how the author drew their clothes!

SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT!

When a human fell in love with a demon, you would expect her to suddenly enjoy a long lifespan too right? I was really expecting for that and I would be lying if I say that I wasn’t disappointed. But then again, that’s usually what a hopeless romantic like me would expect. Eventhough I was disappointed, I have to say that it was still beautiful. Emotional yes but the ending was undeniably beautiful and realistic. But thinking about it still makes me want to wail. Uwaaaah! Vivi! Hana!

Considering of its flaws and clichés, I have to say that Hana to Akuma is still a very good read. I enjoyed discovering the demon world, laughing with the characters and just loving everything about it (especially Vivi, *wink). Yo guys, you really need to read this manga!

Just got to the first chapter of it and I didn't particularly care for it. Drawing style wasn't great and the plot had been done before as well. As for the whole ageless / very old paranormal creature + under-aged girl thing...just not what I'm looking to read at the moment.

Fazit:
5 von 5 Sterne

This is definitely one of my favourite manga of all time. This is the 2nd time I read this after 3-4years, and I still loved it as much as the first time! I love the characters, the era it was set in, and the romance! Although I wished the romance was shown more, but it's still so beautiful! I really like the relationship that Vivi and Hana have, it's just so precious! Oh I love this manga so much!!!

Was down Reddit’s r/shoujo rabbit hole when I came across a user's post suggesting this manga. For all other suggestions, they had made sure to write a little after-thought alongside the blurbs but for Hana to Akuma, all I remember seeing was them mentioning that they cried for several days after this ended.

So me being me, I checked the tags. No mention of tragedy. And yes, I'm the kind of romance reader who checks those last couple of pages before investing my emotions into a book. Unluckily for me, I felt duped. It was the extras that I saw! Not the end.

Now after having read through those 10 volumes, without giving too much away all I have left to say is, yes this is shoujo but it's realistic to bits and the end was bitter-sweet. Atleast to the readers. Maybe to Vivi too. But if I could turn back time, I wouldn't stop myself from reading this. Probably a manga that'll stay with me forever, especially the way it ended. Agh!

Bibi (or Vivi) is a demon from Hell who because of boredom in his eternal life moves to Earth to pass his time along with his staff and house. He is Duke in the demon hierarchy. Once when he was coming back from a ride he found a bundle outside his Mansion gate. He finds an infant in there abandoned at his door and he brings the baby inside.

Turns out its a baby girl who is named Hana (i.e. a flower) due to her angelic smile which she gives to Bibi. Bibi knowing that demons and humans can not mix still adopts the baby and starts living with her. As Hana grows up she keeps following Bibi around the Mansion and gifting him with flowers which wither as soon as he touches them because he's a demon. Hana is worried about Bibi not wanting to touch her and her feeling lonely.

Fun manga to read!

AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! It had me hooked by the first page and I just couldn't keep my hands off it for more than a second! I loved everything in this manga except maybe the ending.... It was a nice ending but I was hoping that they had found a way to make Hana immortal or at least let Livi age and die with her. I just felt like crying knowing that Livi was gonna be all alone. This manga was beautiful and I am thankful that it was one of the first manga's that I had read and the first that I had actually completed.
The love was pure and everything was just PERFECT!!!!!

Very cute. Hana is very cute but she does not seem to be 14 years old. She seems more like a 4 year old. Playing hide and seek and hiding under the bed at 14? I wonder if this has something to with living with a demon. Vivi is interesting. He is trying to live as if he is disinterested in everything around him but he has changed his way of living to accommodate Hana. What is his interest in Hana? I wish this series had been translated into English.

Rereading after a long time. Back then I enjoyed reading when I was teen, around junior-high school, but after rereading now can’t help but to be a little bit disturbed about how hana was so attached romantically to vivi since young…
but!! I still enjoy the story about vampires and stuff.
Your typical old shoujo manga, always annoying misunderstanding and stuff… but overall I still enjoyed it!
The ending was touching and bittersweet.
